:00:10. > :00:12.There are calls for explanations tonight

:00:13. > :00:14.over the sacking of a Southport hospital Chief Executive

:00:15. > :00:16.which has cost the NHS hundreds of thousands of pounds.

:00:17. > :00:20.Jonathan Parry was fired for gross misconduct

:00:21. > :00:24.after being suspended for a year on full pay.

:00:25. > :00:26.The hospital says it can't give any details

:00:27. > :00:28.until Mr Parry's had a chance to appeal.

:00:29. > :00:33.With the Chief Executive gone, now the questions begin,

:00:34. > :00:37.about what happened and how much it's all cost.

:00:38. > :00:40.Jonathan Parry was suspended by the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital

:00:41. > :00:43.NHS Trust in August last ye`r after complaints

:00:44. > :00:48.Now has been sacked for gross misconduct.

:00:49. > :00:54.The people who pay you will be concerned and frankly furiots

:00:55. > :00:56.that they don't know what has been going on.

:00:57. > :01:03.All these salaries of the staff and nonexecutive directors `re paid

:01:04. > :01:07.for with public money and I am mindful of my responsibilithes

:01:08. > :01:11.as chairman of the trust to make sure we are held to account

:01:12. > :01:14.and I would prefer to be as open as I can be.

:01:15. > :01:17.But I have to balance that with my responsibilities as the employer

:01:18. > :01:22.and also my responsibility to follow trust and NHS polhcies.

:01:23. > :01:26.this isn't nicking a few paperclips -

:01:27. > :01:36.Therefore, all the more important people know what had been going on.

:01:37. > :01:39.Let me stress that from the outset, I've made it clear this isn't

:01:40. > :01:41.about public safety, it isn't about patient safety

:01:42. > :01:45.or the care that the hospital is providing.

:01:46. > :01:50.Despite the reassurances - the promises this is about fairness

:01:51. > :01:53.and policy, not secrecy - for some, there are real concerns.

:01:54. > :01:55.Frankly, we resent seeing huge sums of money

:01:56. > :01:58.being taken up by a process such as this.

:01:59. > :02:01.Obviously, if it is gross misconduct, it must be dealt with,

:02:02. > :02:03.but it must be dealt with expeditiously,

:02:04. > :02:07.It's been a long, prolonged and puzzling process.

:02:08. > :02:11.We're at the end of this process, and we still do not know

:02:12. > :02:15.what the original complaint was about.

:02:16. > :02:18.It is understand the sacked Chief Executive is planning

:02:19. > :02:22.That will likely mean the qtestions about what happened

:02:23. > :02:32.A man who murdered his baby daughter in a fit of temper

:02:33. > :02:36.has been sentenced to a minhmum of 18 years in prison.

:02:37. > :02:39.Daisy Mae Burrill was just eight weeks old when her father

:02:40. > :02:42.attacked her at the family home in Fleetwood

:02:43. > :02:45.She suffered a fractured skull and brain damage.

:02:46. > :02:48.John Burrill, who's 31, had initially denied hurting her.

:02:49. > :02:54.But at the start of his tri`l, he admitted throwing her onto ` sofa.

:02:55. > :02:59.he told lies and during the court process, he showed no emotion.

:03:00. > :03:03.When he gave evidence, he showed little emotion.

:03:04. > :03:06.I think it is fair to say hhs defence counsel had to draw out

:03:07. > :03:10.of him how he felt, but he showed no remorse and continued to tell lies

:03:11. > :03:15.and even now he won't accept the full magnitude of what he did.

:03:16. > :03:18.A man's died after he was attacked at a charity shop

:03:19. > :03:23.It happened at the Remar UK furniture store in Aigburth.

:03:24. > :03:27.A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

:03:28. > :03:31.Police say that the incident is not linked to the death of another man

:03:32. > :03:35.30-year-old Blake Brown was shot dead in Southwood Road

:03:36. > :03:39.Two men from the Croxteth area of Liverpool

:03:40. > :03:44.have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

:03:45. > :03:45.North West MEP Steven Wolfe would have faced

:03:46. > :03:48.disciplinary action by UKIP if he hadn't left the party.

:03:49. > :03:50.That's according to an internal report into an altercation

:03:51. > :03:54.The party says because there were no witnesses,

:03:55. > :03:56.it's impossible to establish exactly what happened.

:03:57. > :03:59.But it concludes Mr Woolfe instigated the incident

:04:00. > :04:02.by asking fellow MEP Mike Hookem to go outside.

:04:03. > :04:09.Vauxhall Motors has dismissdd reports that thousands of jobs

:04:10. > :04:13.are under threat in Ellesmere Port as a result of Brexit.

:04:14. > :04:17.have hit profits at parent company General Motors,

:04:18. > :04:21.leading to fears that it cotld cut jobs at its UK factories.

:04:22. > :04:26.Vauxhall says it's business as usual.

:04:27. > :04:29.Katy Jones tried to change lives for the better.

:04:30. > :04:34.she sat on the Hillsborough Independent Panel.

:04:35. > :04:36.Katy died from a brain haemorrhage last year,

:04:37. > :04:40.but continued to change lives as an organ donor.

:04:41. > :04:43.Today, her husband joined over 100 other families

:04:44. > :04:46.honoured for the life saving donations of their loved onds.

:04:47. > :04:54.During her life, Katy Jones won awards for exposing injustice -

:04:55. > :04:57.a BAFTA on her work on Jimmy McGovern's drama

:04:58. > :05:03.Someone's going to get killed out there.

:05:04. > :05:05.She also served on the Hillsborough Independent panel

:05:06. > :05:09.which paved the way for new inquests into the 96 deaths.

:05:10. > :05:13.In April last year, she died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage.

:05:14. > :05:17.Her husband, Mike, knew she was on the organ donor register.

:05:18. > :05:23.Almost something we could dhscuss between us as a family

:05:24. > :05:28.Nothing else about that day was positive.

:05:29. > :05:34.But the thought that Katy could still be helping people,

:05:35. > :05:39.even after she had died, was very positive and strong for us.

:05:40. > :05:42.Today, at a special ceremonx in Manchester, he accepted

:05:43. > :05:46.on her behalf the Order of St John Award for Organ Donation.

:05:47. > :05:50.Katy, one of 140 deceased donors from the Northwest last year,

:05:51. > :05:55.who have helped save and transform many livds.

:05:56. > :05:58.We are immensely proud of her and the day after Katy died,

:05:59. > :06:02.a nurse from the organ donation team rang and said,

:06:03. > :06:11.There are currently almost 700 people awaiting transplants

:06:12. > :06:17.Since April this year, 33 people in the region havd died

:06:18. > :06:24.Nationally, three people a day die waiting.

:06:25. > :06:29.If the family know the donor's wishes or that they've put

:06:30. > :06:33.themselves on the organ donor register or they've had that

:06:34. > :06:36.discussion in life, that reduces that burden at the time

:06:37. > :06:43.All her family have joined the organ donor register,

:06:44. > :06:46.and they hope others will do the same.

:06:47. > :06:49.Just imagine at the point of worst grief, by your dechsion,

:06:50. > :06:53.you might be able to save other people's lives

:06:54. > :07:03.and what a fantastic legacy that is for anyone, young or old.

:07:04. > :07:05.Football and, as you may have seen, Manchester United got the bdtter

:07:06. > :07:07.of their neighbours, Manchester City,

:07:08. > :07:09.in the Fourth Round of the EFL Cup tonight.

:07:10. > :07:11.Let's get the story of the dvening from Stuart Pollitt,

:07:12. > :07:25.A very happy Old Trafford it is as well. For the vast majority of

:07:26. > :07:30.supporters who watch this g`me, Manchester United came out on top,

:07:31. > :07:35.1-0. Manchester City had thd best chance in the first half, btt

:07:36. > :07:40.Manchester United step things up after the break. Paul Pogba came

:07:41. > :07:46.close, hitting the post. 80 minutes later, the pressure was rew`rded

:07:47. > :07:54.when a loose ball was seized and the always put home. City pressdd late

:07:55. > :07:58.on but never registered a shot on target in the 90 minutes. I am

:07:59. > :08:03.joined by Danny Webber, who was watching for BBC Radio Manchester.

:08:04. > :08:07.They did enough to save it, do you think? Evenly matched in thd first

:08:08. > :08:13.half, I bit sloppy but Unitdd obviously came out in the sdcond

:08:14. > :08:20.half had stepped up 20%. Th`t made the difference. Where does this

:08:21. > :08:27.leave both managers? Pep Gu`rdiola, six about a win for him. Th`t is

:08:28. > :08:33.surprising. His team is not even registering a shot on target

:08:34. > :08:35.tonight, so his team is norlally synonymous with attacking,

:08:36. > :08:41.free-flowing football, so hd has a lot to do and the training ground.

:08:42. > :08:49.It is a big bonus for Jose Lourinho tonight. It is picked to buhld on,

:08:50. > :08:52.with a good, solid display. This will be a spring board for

:08:53. > :08:55.Manchester United, it is wh`t they needed, more than Manchester City?

:08:56. > :09:00.Definitely, especially against Manchester City. The way thd game

:09:01. > :09:06.went at the weekend, you nedd a game quickly. This came quickly, they got

:09:07. > :09:11.the win, and got the bragging rights for now. Lovely, Peggy for joining

:09:12. > :09:20.us this evening. I can bring you the draw as well. The reward is a home

:09:21. > :09:24.game against West Ham. Liverpool, who won last night, will host Leeds

:09:25. > :09:27.in the quarterfinal. Both of the big clubs are kept apart. They could

:09:28. > :09:28.meet later in the accommodation who knows?

:09:29. > :09:46.Back to you. Thank you. Some days have been bright `nd crisp

:09:47. > :09:50.and cold, now we are back in the mild, cloudy air. Last night was

:09:51. > :09:53.chilly, but you can see frol the charts we have got high pressure, we

:09:54. > :09:56.have got favourable wind direction is coming from the south-west. High

:09:57. > :10:01.pressure keeps the weather fronts out of the way, so while thdre is a

:10:02. > :10:06.lot of cloud at times, the rain will be negligible. Into the weekend the

:10:07. > :10:10.same kind of story, but the start of next week will bring a change. At

:10:11. > :10:14.the moment, it is cloudy and quiet, everything is static. If yot are

:10:15. > :10:23.unlucky, they could beat result in the wind. But mostly dry.

:10:24. > :10:26.Temperatures are between ten and 12 degrees for most towns and cities. I

:10:27. > :10:30.mild start to tomorrow and cloudy. You could catch drizzle flo`ting

:10:31. > :10:41.around now and then added does not amount to any thing much more than

:10:42. > :10:44.that. Some styles of sunshine, a relatively light breeze for most of

:10:45. > :10:50.us, and a favourable wind dhrection, seeing temperatures get to 04 or 15

:10:51. > :10:53.degrees. Your national forecast is next. If I leave you with the

:10:54. > :10:57.outlook for the next couple of days, you will see we lose the brhght

:10:58. > :11:01.autumn sunshine but the compensation is the mild weather.

:11:02. > :11:02.out the outlook. Temperatures are looking very promising indeed. Nick

:11:03. > :11:14.Miller has the National forecast. If you like your forecast to include

:11:15. > :11:15.cold weather, this is not for you. Temperatures
