:00:33. > :00:37.Andy, what more do we know tonight about the police investigation?

:00:44. > :00:54.A local police chief has said that a man named Vikas Bhagat had been

:00:55. > :00:56.arrested and charged in connection with the murder.

:00:57. > :00:59.Her body was found in a remote area near a beach yesterday morning.

:01:00. > :01:02.Police in Goa also say a post mortem has been carried

:01:03. > :01:03.out on Danielle's body, though they've not

:01:04. > :01:06.We also know a little more tonight about Danielle.

:01:07. > :01:08.She was the eldest of five daughters.

:01:09. > :01:10.She travelled in Australia after working here in Liverpool.

:01:11. > :01:13.And returned home to Ireland before travelling again to India.

:01:14. > :01:15.Tonight, her family and friends are grieving on both

:01:16. > :01:22.Friends say Danielle McLaughlin, who was originally from

:01:23. > :01:28.John Moores University have confirmed that she was a student

:01:29. > :01:30.here, though it hasn't said what she studied or when.

:01:31. > :01:32.After university she worked at the Pumphouse Pub

:01:33. > :01:38.A former colleague and friend says staff and customers loved her.

:01:39. > :01:40.Just the most fun girl you could imagine.

:01:41. > :01:46.When you heard, from your personal point of view, what did you think?

:01:47. > :01:49.Well, it actually brought a tear to my eye and I'm not one to do

:01:50. > :01:53.I was sitting on the bus, like, this isn't real.

:01:54. > :01:58.And then I saw the stories and I was like, "Oh, my God, it is."

:01:59. > :02:01.Danielle grew up in County Donegal in Ireland.

:02:02. > :02:07.Community leaders there say the family is overwhelmed by their loss.

:02:08. > :02:10.It's always unnatural for a mother to lose a child even if

:02:11. > :02:25.She was popular, outgoing and lively.

:02:26. > :02:27.She would take part in musicals, she was

:02:28. > :02:39.Recently, Danielle's grandfather died.

:02:40. > :02:41.And, in recent years, her mother lost her husband.

:02:42. > :02:53.In a statement tonight, Danielle's mother said:

:02:54. > :02:56.Police in India say Danielle may have been sexually assaulted

:02:57. > :03:03.A teenager who killed a Merseyside police officer in a stolen car has

:03:04. > :03:06.been told his 20-year prison sentence is "thoroughly deserved."

:04:08. > :04:09.Thousands of lives could be saved if a Manchester scheme to detect

:04:10. > :04:12.lung cancer was introduced across the country.

:04:13. > :04:15.That's according to NHS researchers who carried out a pilot scheme

:04:16. > :04:29.Recently, I went for a lung check and I've been diagnosed with cancer.

:04:30. > :04:35.Michael found out about his condition thanks to a pilot scheme

:04:36. > :04:41.Instead of waiting for people to go to the doctor's with a problem,

:04:42. > :04:45.the project targeted poorer areas where lifestyle and smoking make

:04:46. > :04:49.lung cancer the most common cause of premature death.

:04:50. > :04:51.They wrote to everyone aged between 55 and 74,

:04:52. > :04:59.Around half then went on to have CT scans.

:05:00. > :05:03.I went for a lung health check, and was given an appointment

:05:04. > :05:12.So I think the timescale is absolutely terrific.

:05:13. > :05:15.Most people who are diagnosed with lung cancer don't find out

:05:16. > :05:18.until stage four of the disease, by which time it's

:05:19. > :05:23.We did about 1,400 scans, and of those,

:05:24. > :05:33.And importantly, 80% of those are early stage.

:05:34. > :05:35.We were diagnosing one cancer for every scanning

:05:36. > :05:45.The team behind the scheme believes it could save many more lives.

:05:46. > :05:49.We did manage to target the poorest, the most deprived sections

:05:50. > :05:53.of the community, which is said to be hardest to reach.

:05:54. > :06:05.I could've gone two or three years and it could have spread everywhere.

:06:06. > :06:08.It's now hoped funding will be approved to extend the scheme

:06:09. > :06:19.to other areas of Greater Manchester and eventually, across the country.

:06:20. > :06:21.The former Manchester United star Gary Neville has been responding

:06:22. > :06:26.to criticism of his plans to build tower blocks up to 31 storeys high

:06:27. > :06:31.He was speaking at an investment fair on the French Riviera,

:06:32. > :06:34.and said he was willing to make changes to the design.

:06:35. > :06:37.The event in Cannes also heard about massive plans to redevelop

:07:03. > :07:05.In town, there'd be a new market and a heritage district

:07:06. > :07:09.Wirral Council's here to try and raise a billion pounds for it.

:07:10. > :07:16.There is a buzz about Wirral and Birkenhead.

:07:17. > :07:20.People think that Wirral is going places and the region is going

:07:21. > :07:23.The council hopes that Birkenhead's market can eventually

:07:24. > :07:29.North West councils come to this annual investment show every year to

:07:30. > :07:34.But in Manchester, this famous face is

:07:35. > :07:37.behind one which is causing concerns.

:07:38. > :07:40.Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs want to build two skyscrapers

:07:41. > :07:43.in the centre of Manchester, but they are willing to act on those

:07:44. > :07:48.From our point of view there is no doubt that some of the

:07:49. > :07:50.suggestions that have been made to us during the consultation process

:07:51. > :07:54.and planning process we need to listen to.

:07:55. > :07:56.We need to refine certain aspects of it, change certain

:07:57. > :08:00.We still fundamentally believe in scale and in the

:08:01. > :08:06.buildings being tall in that zone and that's

:08:07. > :08:10.You mentioned Historic England there and they do seem to be

:08:11. > :08:12.objecting to the fundamentals and not just the design.

:08:13. > :08:14.You will be aware they're saying it would damage

:08:15. > :08:16.the city's historic heart, dwarfing and aggressively jarring with nearby

:08:17. > :08:25.I fundamentally disagree with their...

:08:26. > :08:26.I suppose the language that they've used.

:08:27. > :08:29.Elsewhere, in Liverpool, funding has been secured for a ?35

:08:30. > :08:31.million Cancer Centre in the Paddington

:08:32. > :08:35.the city centre, one of a new wave of facilities providing proton beam

:08:36. > :08:40.At the Cheshire stand in Cannes, plans to redevelop Chester

:08:41. > :08:43.and redevelop land around Crewe when HS2 comes have been outlined.

:08:44. > :08:44.Back in Manchester, some very long-term

:08:45. > :08:50.The City Council's Chief Executive has told an audience that

:08:51. > :08:53.within the next few years, the city region will have to look at

:08:54. > :09:02.installing an underground railway because the trams will be too full.

:09:03. > :09:04.Manchester City have been knocked out of the Champions League,

:09:05. > :09:11.After falling two goals behind, they managed to pull one
