:00:12. > :00:15.A vigil has been held in Manchester this evening to show solidarity

:00:16. > :00:22.with those caught up in yesterday's terror attack in London.

:00:23. > :00:29.And it was led by the city's Lord Mayor, and many of those taking part

:00:30. > :00:30.said they wanted to show solidarity with those who had suffered in the

:00:31. > :00:32.attacks. It was just really nice

:00:33. > :00:34.for different people from different parties

:00:35. > :00:36.to put their differences It's important that Manchester

:00:37. > :00:43.shows unity with London, especially because it's

:00:44. > :00:44.a very diverse city. There'll be a lot of communities now

:00:45. > :00:47.affected by the consequences The police officer that

:00:48. > :00:52.died was a member of the Royal Artillery,

:00:53. > :00:54.like I am. Once a gunner, always a gunner,

:00:55. > :00:57.we stand together solid, Yesterday in Westminster, three

:00:58. > :01:08.people were killed by the attacker Among them, students from

:01:09. > :01:11.Edge Hill University in Ormskirk. Today, they thanked the emergency

:01:12. > :01:14.services for their help, He went to Westminster to learn

:01:15. > :01:18.about Parliament and its history, 19-year-old Travis Frain

:01:19. > :01:22.from Darwen, a student on a University trip and among those

:01:23. > :01:25.hurt on one of the darkest They were on the bridge,

:01:26. > :01:36.and he showed me on a newspaper Clearly, he's not well,

:01:37. > :01:40.but he's dealing with it. Also injured,

:01:41. > :01:52.18-year-old Owen Lambert. He was also on the Edge

:01:53. > :01:55.Hill University trip. At the campus today,

:01:56. > :01:58.students were offered They just went to London to go

:01:59. > :02:03.to the Houses of Parliament, these But Travis and all the other

:02:04. > :02:11.students are very upbeat. Obviously, they will be

:02:12. > :02:14.in various states of shock, and they will be traumatised

:02:15. > :02:18.by the things they've seen. Remembering those

:02:19. > :02:20.who didn't survive. At police stations,

:02:21. > :02:22.they stopped for silence. While flags were lowered for

:02:23. > :02:27.a colleague, killed doing his job. And at Manchester Town Hall,

:02:28. > :02:30.all through the day people signed their names

:02:31. > :02:34.in a show of solidarity. One message saying,

:02:35. > :02:36.we have the North/South divide, It really, really hate us hard,

:02:37. > :02:42.what happened yesterday, how quickly something

:02:43. > :02:49.like that can happen, It's so nice that everyone has come

:02:50. > :02:53.together to pay their respects, from different cities,

:02:54. > :02:56.even like Paris, all over the world. It is just really is such

:02:57. > :03:00.a tragic, tragic event Back home in Liverpool,

:03:01. > :03:04.these men were among the hundreds in Parliament

:03:05. > :03:09.during the security lockdown. Despite watching events unfold

:03:10. > :03:12.before them yesterday, the enormity is only

:03:13. > :03:14.now hitting them. We saw a police officer fall,

:03:15. > :03:17.blood on the the floor, we saw people climbing

:03:18. > :03:19.on top of them. Many people do own

:03:20. > :03:22.their lives to him. He was directing people

:03:23. > :03:25.away from the situation, but he was going head-on into that

:03:26. > :03:28.situation to try and slow the man with the knife down

:03:29. > :03:31.at the cost of his life. If he had got over that barrier,

:03:32. > :03:34.he was 50 feet away from MPs and the public,

:03:35. > :03:45.with a weapon. A former Anglican vicar

:03:46. > :03:47.from Liverpool who stole more than ?100,000 from the church

:03:48. > :03:50.has been spared jail. Michael Fry spent the money

:03:51. > :03:54.on alcohol, books and travel. But today a judge said Fry's

:03:55. > :03:56.good deeds outweighed Our Merseyside reporter

:03:57. > :04:03.Andy Gill was in court. Over an eight-year period

:04:04. > :04:08.until 2013, Michael Fry kept the fees from more than 1000

:04:09. > :04:10.funerals that he should have passed

:04:11. > :04:13.to the Liverpool diocese. He also misled his bosses

:04:14. > :04:15.about the number of funerals Fry worked out of a number

:04:16. > :04:21.of city centre churches, The court heard that initially

:04:22. > :04:25.the church was relaxed about his financial returns,

:04:26. > :04:28.given the expectation of honesty But today the Archdeacon

:04:29. > :04:34.described the scale How much damage do you think

:04:35. > :04:40.this case has done to Difficult to assess,

:04:41. > :04:44.but when this happens, with a clergy person failing

:04:45. > :04:53.to maintain that level of trust, there can be a knock-on

:04:54. > :04:55.effect with other clergy. I guess it will make other

:04:56. > :04:57.clergy feel vulnerable, Michael Fry was also the chaplain

:04:58. > :05:01.of Liverpool Women's Hospital. The court heard he spent the money

:05:02. > :05:06.on drink, books and travel. What did you think personally,

:05:07. > :05:09.as a senior figure in the church, when you heard about

:05:10. > :05:12.what Michael Fry had been doing? I felt immensely sad

:05:13. > :05:16.and let down, to be honest. But I know Michael, I know

:05:17. > :05:21.the demons that he's fought against. When the thefts were

:05:22. > :05:23.discovered, Fry resigned Today, a judge said his offences

:05:24. > :05:30.were an enormous breach of trust, but he was also a very caring

:05:31. > :05:33.and compassionate individual who continued to volunteer

:05:34. > :05:38.with the homeless. The judge said there comes

:05:39. > :05:41.a time in a man's life where he's entitled to say,

:05:42. > :05:44.measure the good I have done In this case, the good

:05:45. > :05:50.outweighs the harm. She sentenced Michael Fry

:05:51. > :05:53.to 20 months in jail, A woman's been arrested on suspicion

:05:54. > :06:05.of murder after a man was found dead The body of 47-year-old Thomas Jones

:06:06. > :06:12.was discovered by firefighters inside the property on Berry Street

:06:13. > :06:16.in Clifton early yesterday morning. Police say a 37-year-old woman

:06:17. > :06:22.is currently receiving hospital treatment,

:06:23. > :06:24.but will be questioned The North West has been revealed

:06:25. > :06:31.as the worst area in England for patients trapped in hospital

:06:32. > :06:34.beds because of problems A BBC investigation found

:06:35. > :06:39.four North West councils Cumbria was the worst

:06:40. > :06:43.in the country, closely followed by Trafford,

:06:44. > :06:48.Tameside and Stockport. The Labour Party has

:06:49. > :06:51.announced Afzal Khan will be its candidate for

:06:52. > :06:54.the Manchester Gorton by-election. The by-election comes

:06:55. > :06:59.after the death of Lancashire County Council

:07:00. > :07:05.is reducing the speed limit on Preston New Road,

:07:06. > :07:08.next to a shale gas exploration site where protestors have been

:07:09. > :07:12.gathering for a number of weeks. The limit will be cut from 50

:07:13. > :07:16.to 20mph, in the hope that the police won't need to close

:07:17. > :07:22.the road during demonstrations. The prospect of a new stadium

:07:23. > :07:25.for Everton Football Club has moved The club has secured a plot of land

:07:26. > :07:30.on Liverpool's waterfront and, with the City Council,

:07:31. > :07:33.come up with a plan to find With a young and ambitious

:07:34. > :07:41.team, Everton is a club And they hope this is where the next

:07:42. > :07:47.generation of stars will have the Blues

:07:48. > :07:50.faithfull off their seats. A site on the north side

:07:51. > :07:53.of Liverpool's waterfront, where they plan to build one

:07:54. > :07:56.the best stadiums in the world. We have control of the land,

:07:57. > :08:00.we have a basis by which we can go The next phase is about being much

:08:01. > :08:04.more precise about defining what we want to build and defining

:08:05. > :08:08.how much that's going to cost. Everton have been working

:08:09. > :08:09.in close collaboration The plan is to create

:08:10. > :08:15.a company together called It will lever in funding

:08:16. > :08:20.and lease the stadium. When it's is built, it will be

:08:21. > :08:24.leased back to the football club. It's wonderful, couldn't be a better

:08:25. > :08:27.place, really couldn't. They could redevelop it in the same

:08:28. > :08:33.way that Liverpool have done theirs. It'll be iconic, and

:08:34. > :08:36.think it's a good move and it's good for the city,

:08:37. > :08:38.it's good for everyone. Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson has

:08:39. > :08:41.been at the heart of discussions. All the other things that

:08:42. > :08:45.will develop as a result of the catalytic effect of Everton's

:08:46. > :08:48.stadium, being there - there'll be new housing, new developments,

:08:49. > :08:50.which all help the intake of new money coming into the city

:08:51. > :08:54.through business rates. The council won't fund

:08:55. > :08:56.the new ground, but will reportedly earn about ?4.5 million a year

:08:57. > :09:01.from the deal, and hope the stadium will be part of plans to bring

:09:02. > :09:04.the Commonwealth Games to Liverpool I think it's a huge opportunity

:09:05. > :09:13.for us not to miss, and we'll have all those components in place

:09:14. > :09:19.for us to bid. There are still substantial hurdles

:09:20. > :09:21.to be overcome before we start But it's also clear that real

:09:22. > :09:26.progress has been made, and the prospect of not only

:09:27. > :09:29.a ground for Everton, but also potentially

:09:30. > :09:32.the regeneration of this part of the city, has moved

:09:33. > :09:49.a significant step closer. And that is it from me, so I'll say

:09:50. > :09:55.goodbye to you and thank you to Diane, who has the weather forecast.

:09:56. > :10:00.All good news for the next few days. For the next couple of days, while

:10:01. > :10:06.the days I try and find, the Knights will be chilly. This starts tonight,

:10:07. > :10:09.an area of high pressure building, keeping things quiet. Allowing the

:10:10. > :10:16.sun to shine through the day. But the Knights will be cool. It is

:10:17. > :10:22.chilly out there now. A cold, easterly wind. We will lose that in

:10:23. > :10:29.the early hours. You can see blue descending in one or two parts.

:10:30. > :10:35.Temperatures around 5 degrees. In rural areas it might be lower. The

:10:36. > :10:41.sun is up just after 6am tomorrow, and look at that sunshine throughout

:10:42. > :10:48.the day. The breeze comes towards us the East, much lighter. Sunshine

:10:49. > :10:53.tomorrow, feeling pleasant. Lots of sunshine, some patchy cloud floating

:10:54. > :10:57.around, allowing temperatures to 13 degrees. With the out like for the

:10:58. > :11:00.next couple of days, the weekend looks good. Good night.

:11:01. > :11:03.part of the weekend. 1415 degrees. Still quite breezy. Here's Thomas

:11:04. > :11:13.with the national picture. Good evening. Some good news on the

:11:14. > :11:17.weather front of this evening. The weekend is looking sunny for most of

:11:18. > :11:24.the UK. We have got clear skies across the country and it promises

:11:25. > :11:28.to be a sunny day tomorrow. We had some rain today. It rained quite

:11:29. > :11:34.heavy across parts of the South West. These are remnants of weather

:11:35. > :11:35.fronts that have been hanging around for a
