:00:18. > :00:22.A 34-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were detained this morning.

:00:23. > :00:25.They're among a number of arrests by detectives trying

:00:26. > :00:28.to establish whether Khalid Masood was helped or encouraged by others

:00:29. > :00:35.Our chief reporter, Dave Guest, reports from West Didsbury.

:00:36. > :00:38.In the aftermath of the outrage, the police very quickly

:00:39. > :00:44.Now they must identify whether Khalid Masood was acting alone

:00:45. > :00:49.The investigation by the Metropolitan Police has led

:00:50. > :00:53.to a number of arrests in different parts of the country.

:00:54. > :00:56.Yesterday, they concentrated on Birmingham.

:00:57. > :01:00.Today came news there had been arrests closer to home,

:01:01. > :01:05.We have made two significant arrests overnight.

:01:06. > :01:09.One in the West Midlands, one in the North West.

:01:10. > :01:11.We have five searches at addresses continuing,

:01:12. > :01:17.The scene of one of those searches, this gated housing development

:01:18. > :01:30.A man of 35 was arrested here in the early hours of the morning.

:01:31. > :01:33.I had no idea what was going on, to be honest.

:01:34. > :01:35.I didn't see anything and I wasn't told anything either.

:01:36. > :01:38.What do you think of something like this happening around here?

:01:39. > :01:41.The local MP says he was informed by the police earlier today

:01:42. > :01:45.I was contacted by the police first thing this morning,

:01:46. > :01:48.and they've been keeping us updated and doing a great job, as usual.

:01:51. > :01:53.The important thing to stress is there's no need for alarm,

:01:54. > :01:56.there's no sense of any threat to the local community.

:01:57. > :02:02.During the afternoon, a grey Mazda car was taken away.

:02:03. > :02:04.The police have maintained a presence here throughout

:02:05. > :02:10.In addition to the 35-year-old man arrested here early this morning,

:02:11. > :02:13.the Metropolitan Police now tell us a 32-year-old woman has also been

:02:14. > :02:17.arrested as part of their operation in Manchester today.

:02:18. > :02:21.Meanwhile, in London, Travis Frain, an Edge Hill University student

:02:22. > :02:26.who found himself at the centre of yesterday's

:02:27. > :02:31.He had a special visitor today when the Prince of Wales dropped in.

:02:32. > :02:35.I have to say, I'm very impressed with the way the Edge Hill students

:02:36. > :02:38.They've dealt with it very maturely, supporting each other.

:02:39. > :02:41.I don't think I would have been like that at their age,

:02:42. > :02:45.Meanwhile, the investigation into this man, why he did it

:02:46. > :02:49.and whether anyone helped him continues.

:02:50. > :02:52.George Osborne has tonight faced a grilling from his local

:02:53. > :02:54.Conservative Party over his decision to take up a role as editor

:02:55. > :03:01.The former Chancellor last week announced he would work

:03:02. > :03:04.for the Evening Standard alongside his role as Tatton MP.

:03:05. > :03:07.He also has lucrative contracts at an investment company

:03:08. > :03:13.Whether as a constituency MP or in parliament,

:03:14. > :03:15.fighting for the things I care about, or editing the

:03:16. > :03:18.Evening Standard, I'm going to go on fighting for a prosperous

:03:19. > :03:24.The meeting with George Osborne finished earlier tonight.

:03:33. > :03:36.had the first chance, really, to question Mr Osborne since

:04:17. > :04:19.a newspaper for four mornings a week.

:04:20. > :04:24.And we all feel he's got the capability and ability

:04:25. > :04:26.to do that and have every confidence in him.

:04:27. > :04:29.The only thing that we were disappointed

:04:30. > :04:31.about in there was that, if Tatton is abolished,

:04:32. > :04:36.We're not criticising anybody around, but we know

:04:37. > :04:40.And if we are abolished in the boundary commissions,

:04:41. > :04:42.that will be devastating for the people of Tatton.

:04:43. > :04:45.A four-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a suspected

:04:46. > :04:49.stolen car mounted the pavement and hit her in St Helens today.

:04:50. > :04:53.The girl was walking with a woman in her 50s when they were hit

:04:54. > :04:56.by a black Ford Fiesta at 3pm on Prescot Road.

:04:57. > :04:58.The car then hit a lamp post before two men

:04:59. > :05:03.The girl was taken to hospital where she is in a critical condition.

:05:04. > :05:05.The older woman, who is believed to be

:05:06. > :05:08.the girl's grandmother, is in a serious condition.

:05:09. > :05:12.Police are investigating the death of a 19-month-old girl in Preston.

:05:13. > :05:14.She died in hospital, after being treated

:05:15. > :05:17.by paramedics at an address in Lostock Hall yesterday.

:05:18. > :05:24.An 18-year-old woman and two men - aged 18 and 19 - have been arrested.

:05:25. > :05:27.A former youth football scout - who worked at Liverpool -
