:01:41. > :01:43.because of the roadworks and the parking's poor.

:01:44. > :01:46.For businesses in the thick of it around the Oxford road area,

:01:47. > :01:50.When the roads were closed, that was a big issue

:01:51. > :01:55.for us because there was lots of fencing and a lot of noise as well

:01:56. > :01:58.and we didn't have access to the shop, so that wasn't good for

:01:59. > :02:01.delivering all the flowers and everything, but once that was

:02:02. > :02:03.cleared, it actually became a bit easier.

:02:04. > :02:05.The ongoing works are part of the council's

:02:06. > :02:08.?1 billion Project Grow, which it says is necessary

:02:09. > :02:12.to improve access to the city for all forms of transport.

:02:13. > :02:15.This new tramline known as the second city crossing is

:02:16. > :02:19.due to be open in early spring, but its construction has caused huge

:02:20. > :02:23.disruption and the fact that it coincided with other roadworks and a

:02:24. > :02:27.sinkhole on the Mancunian Way that took ten months to fix means the

:02:28. > :02:31.misery for motorists has gone on and on.

:02:32. > :02:34.A lot of people is not going to do anything about it by saying

:02:35. > :02:37.anything, it's just a case of just putting up with it, really.

:02:38. > :02:40.If you're going to the Northern College of Music

:02:41. > :02:42.or the Bridgwater then it has been a nuisance, you know.

:02:43. > :02:44.Now the council is allowing the public a weekend's

:02:45. > :02:48.free street parking to compensate for the hassle they've endured.

:02:49. > :02:49.We realise there's been some short-term disruption

:02:50. > :02:52.while we grow the city's infrastructure, creating bus gates

:02:53. > :02:55.and putting a tram right across the city and this is just

:02:56. > :02:58.a way to say thank you to residents for bearing with us

:02:59. > :03:04.But the end is still months away with work on the Oxford Road

:03:05. > :03:12.bus corridor expected to continue until April.

:03:13. > :03:18.And tonight marks the start of a year of events

:03:19. > :03:22.and concerts to mark the period in the town's musical history.
