0:00:17 > 0:00:20within days of each other have shared a photo of the heart-breaking

0:00:20 > 0:00:22moment their parents said goodbye to each other.

0:00:22 > 0:00:26The picture of Julie and Mike Bennet was taken at St John's Hospice.

0:00:26 > 0:00:31Their children are being comforted by relatives and friends who have

0:00:31 > 0:00:34launched a fundraising campaign to help them face the

0:00:34 > 0:00:35devastating double loss.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Here's Mark Edwardson with the details.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41A devoted couple hand in hand as they had been many times before,

0:00:41 > 0:00:46sharing their last moments together.

0:00:46 > 0:00:51It's a photo of Julie and Mike Bennet from Irby.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Both terminally ill with cancer, both passed away within a week.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58They were so down-to-earth.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59Nothing was ever too much trouble.

0:00:59 > 0:01:04Very open-minded, always encouraging their children.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Mike died last Monday, Julie last night.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09They leave three children - Luke, who's 21, 18-year-old Hannah

0:01:09 > 0:01:14and Oliver, who's just 13.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Bravely, they decided it was appropriate to pay tribute

0:01:18 > 0:01:21to their beloved parents by posting the picture on social media.

0:01:21 > 0:01:27To release that photograph of their mum and dad

0:01:27 > 0:01:30in hospital shows an incredible strength in character.

0:01:30 > 0:01:33Yeah, it captured who their parents are, holding hands to the end.

0:01:33 > 0:01:36It wasn't attention seeking, it was to share

0:01:36 > 0:01:39the news of their parents, and it was a beautiful moment,

0:01:39 > 0:01:43that they were there for each other.

0:01:43 > 0:01:5057-year-old Mike Bennet had been fighting cancer for three years.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Julie was 50 and was diagnosed last April.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56They're well known locally for their generosity.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59And now that kindness is being repaid - a JustGiving

0:01:59 > 0:02:01website set up just last week to help their children has

0:02:01 > 0:02:04already raised far more than its ?50,000 target.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06It struck a chord with an awful lot of people.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09People feel it and they've been touched by it and so they understand

0:02:09 > 0:02:12it, and I think they understand what life holds in the future

0:02:12 > 0:02:15for the kids and want to support them through that.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18Julie and Mike's children, naturally too upset to be interviewed today,

0:02:18 > 0:02:26say they're overwhelmed by the response.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30Detectives in Lancashire are appealing for witnesses

0:02:33 > 0:02:36of a 92-year-old man at his home in Preston.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39It happened on Lytham Road yesterday afternoon.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46by an intruder who claimed he was owed money for work

0:02:46 > 0:02:48he'd done on the house.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Merseyrail services between Liverpool and Birkenhead

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Wirral line services will now start and end their journeys

0:02:57 > 0:02:59at James Street, although there's only one platform

0:02:59 > 0:03:02available there this week.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04For the past six weeks passengers have had to use replacement

0:03:04 > 0:03:07buses to cross the river because of an ongoing

0:03:07 > 0:03:12track renewal programme.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Now, light pollution means that many of us have never seen the night

0:03:16 > 0:03:17sky in all its glory.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19Well, tomorrow's Inside Out will feature the Isle of Man

0:03:19 > 0:03:22which has the largest concentration of dark sky sites in the British

0:03:22 > 0:03:26Isles making it the perfect destination for stargazing.

0:03:26 > 0:03:32It's a place from where you can even see the Milky Way.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35The best thing we can see in the winter months,

0:03:35 > 0:03:38there's a feature to our side here called the winter hexagon,

0:03:38 > 0:03:41which gives you about nine or ten, what we call first magnitude,

0:03:41 > 0:03:44the very bright stars, which are only seen during winter

0:03:44 > 0:03:46months from the Isle of Man and places in Northern Europe.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50We don't see that in towns or cities and that is one of the criteria

0:03:50 > 0:03:54for being a dark sky site, the ability to see the Milky Way.

0:03:55 > 0:04:00And you can see the programme tomorrow evening at 7:30 on BBC One.

0:04:00 > 0:04:05In the Premier League, Burnley held league leaders Chelsea

0:04:06 > 0:04:07to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09The visitors scored first, but the Clarets record signing

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Robbie Brady made his full debut following a January move

0:04:12 > 0:04:20from Norwich and equalised with a stunning free kick.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Now running one marathon is an achievement in itself.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26But a 29-year-old man from Stockport has just finished running eight

0:04:26 > 0:04:27marathons in eight days.

0:04:27 > 0:04:32Carl Beresford is raising money for the Christie Hospital and ran

0:04:32 > 0:04:33from Denton in Manchester to Ravensglass in the

0:04:33 > 0:04:37Lake District and back.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40He says it was to say thanks for treating his girlfriend

0:04:40 > 0:04:41Vikki Parr who was diagnosed with cervical cancer

0:04:41 > 0:04:44and is now recovering.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Now, it's been an extremely cold day with temperatures barely getting

0:04:48 > 0:04:51above a couple of degrees, but will it get better?

0:05:23 > 0:05:24and four Celsius.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27A chilly start tomorrow, but the wind direction is changing

0:05:27 > 0:05:31to something that brings in something a little bit drier

0:05:31 > 0:05:34and a little bit clearer, but it is going to take its time

0:05:34 > 0:05:36so it will be a cloudy start tomorrow.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39There will be mist and fog lingering over the tops of the Pennines

0:05:39 > 0:05:43and we start to see some breaks in the cloud, but it will be windy,

0:05:43 > 0:05:45especially along the coast, where there could be gale-force

0:05:45 > 0:05:51winds at times and it is going to be chilly, temperatures at six Celsius.

0:05:51 > 0:05:56It won'feel that way, but at least the sun is coming out

0:05:56 > 0:05:57and it's getting a little brighter.

0:05:57 > 0:05:58That's all for now.
