:00:46. > :00:49.Basically, it's an escape route from the normalcy of life,
:00:50. > :00:57.This weekend, Greater Manchester Police took 31 calls about people
:00:58. > :01:02.14 of them had collapsed and needed an ambulance.
:01:03. > :01:05.On this glorious day here in Piccadilly Gardens,
:01:06. > :01:09.shoppers are being entertained, but, at the same time,
:01:10. > :01:11.police are out here and there's quite a presence.
:01:12. > :01:15.It's because Piccadilly Gardens has been quite a problem area when it

:01:29. > :01:32.but they'll continue to tackle all anti-social users of the drug.

:02:14. > :02:15.to highlight the rubbish littering our coastline.

:02:32. > :02:38.Throughout summer, you get your tourists coming down with disposable
:02:39. > :02:41.barbecues and that kind of thing, and they just head off into the sand
:02:42. > :02:44.dunes and have a nice picnic for the day, in this good weather,
:02:45. > :02:49.and generally they don't take their litter home with them.
:02:50. > :02:51.That is the bane of your life, isn't it?
:02:52. > :02:54.As with other beach cleans across the region,
:02:55. > :02:56.there's been no shortage of volunteers.
:02:57. > :02:59.I was surprised by how much rubbish people discard.
:03:00. > :03:03.Yeah, yeah, bottles and sweet wrappers.
:03:04. > :03:05.There's plenty of bins along the coastline,
:03:06. > :03:08.but you know what it's like - families are at the beach
:03:09. > :03:12.And that, say local action groups, means an ongoing
:03:13. > :03:19.By reducing all of the plastic and the waste, it's safer for people
:03:20. > :03:21.to go out in the sea, which is also good for
:03:22. > :03:23.the marine life and animals, because they are dying
:03:24. > :03:27.It is killing thousands, hundreds of thousands
:03:28. > :03:32.Well, the volunteers have been cleaning the beach here now
:03:33. > :03:36.and this is what they've come back with -
:03:37. > :03:38.around 40 bags full of waste and litter,
:03:39. > :03:42.along with hundreds of plastic bottles, that will now be recycled.
:03:43. > :03:45.Loads of litter down there, a big pile.
:03:46. > :03:53.Organisers say there'll be another Big Beach Clean in the autumn.
