:00:19. > :00:21.on Christmas Day has made his first appearance in court.

:00:22. > :00:28.Britton Gardens, in Kingswood, where six-month-old Aya Parker died

:00:29. > :00:35.on Christmas morning. Police and paramedics were called

:00:36. > :00:39.here in the early hours, but could not revive her.

:00:40. > :00:42.Aya's death was treated as unexplained, at first,

:00:43. > :00:46.until the results of a postmortem examination.

:00:47. > :00:49.Her father, 33-year-old Lee Parker, was arrested.

:00:50. > :00:56.Yesterday, he was charged and, today, he was in court.

:00:57. > :00:58.Lee Parker's appearance here at Bristol Magistrates' Court

:00:59. > :01:04.He confirmed his date of birth and his address.

:01:05. > :01:07.He was told that he had been charged with the murder

:01:08. > :01:10.of his baby daughter and that his case would be taken

:01:11. > :01:14.Because of the Christmas break there, in practice,

:01:15. > :01:16.that means he will be back here tomorrow morning,

:01:17. > :01:26.Andy Howard, BBC Points West in Bristol.

:01:27. > :01:28.A woman from Gloucestershire has described a new law to protect

:01:29. > :01:32.the victims of domestic abuse as a "life saver".

:01:33. > :01:34.Mandy Scrivens, from South Cerney, suffered terrible emotional abuse

:01:35. > :01:36.for 12 years, at the hands of her ex-partner.

:01:37. > :01:38.The Coercive Control Act came into force exactly

:01:39. > :01:40.a year ago today and, because of it, Mandy's

:01:41. > :01:51.She has been speaking exclusively to our reporter, Laura Jones.

:01:52. > :01:53.Looking forward to a brighter New Year

:01:54. > :02:00.For Mandy and her four children, it is a fresh start,

:02:01. > :02:05.away from her abusive and violent ex-partner.

:02:06. > :02:10.So, Zack was about four and Lee smashed the door on Zack,

:02:11. > :02:17.He hurt Zack. He would sometimes pick

:02:18. > :02:22.up Leon and throw him at the top of the stairs.

:02:23. > :02:27.He would not even have to touch you for you to be terrified.

:02:28. > :02:30.His language and his body language. He is just so big.

:02:31. > :02:32.Although Mandy's former partner was a very angry man, he was

:02:33. > :02:40.controlling every detail of Mandy and the children's lives.

:02:41. > :02:42.It took years, and many attempts, before she finally

:02:43. > :02:49.The thing with the control thing is that

:02:50. > :02:53.they get in your head and convince you that you would never be able

:02:54. > :02:56.to have another partner. I am actually struggling.

:02:57. > :03:01.He said that I could never cope and look

:03:02. > :03:09.I would never have any money and all that sort of stuff.

:03:10. > :03:12.I never had a car. He used to take the car.

:03:13. > :03:14.I couldn't have a car, because he put it in his name.

:03:15. > :03:17.Christmas and New Year can often be a difficult, and often

:03:18. > :03:23.dangerous, time of year for those living with domestic abuse.

:03:24. > :03:26.But this year, for the first time, something has changed.

:03:27. > :03:28.It means the sort of behaviour Mandy is describing is now

:03:29. > :03:35.That new law is called the Coercive Control Act

:03:36. > :03:39.and it is because of it that Mandy's ex, Lee Coleman, is now

:03:40. > :03:41.serving three years in prison for his bullying and controlling

:03:42. > :03:44.It is a good result for Gloucestershire Police,

:03:45. > :03:54.but investigating this sort of activity is tough.

:03:55. > :04:05.It is a very different matter for the police to understand and get the

:04:06. > :04:13.head round. If someone is injured and it is tangible, we can ask that.

:04:14. > :04:18.We can deal with it then. But it is much more difficult when someone is

:04:19. > :04:24.being controlled, maybe in terms of the money and what they are doing on

:04:25. > :04:29.the computer, that is much more challenging in terms of

:04:30. > :04:32.investigating. It has been a very difficult year for Mandy but she is

:04:33. > :04:38.determined to pick the past behind her and focus on the future. They

:04:39. > :04:42.speaking out, she is hoping to help others in the same situation have a

:04:43. > :04:45.happier Christmas and New Year. And if you need any support

:04:46. > :04:47.and advice about coercive control, you can call

:04:48. > :04:49.the Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre on 01452

:04:50. > :04:54.526770, or the police, on 101. A man who was jailed for leaving

:04:55. > :04:57.bacon at a Bristol mosque has died in prison.

:04:58. > :04:59.Kevin Crehan, who was 35 and from Knowle, was given

:05:00. > :05:01.a 12-month sentence in July. It followed an incident

:05:02. > :05:03.in which rashers of bacon were placed on the mosque door

:05:04. > :05:05.handles in Totterdown. We understand there were no

:05:06. > :05:07.suspicious circumstances An appeal to build a new base

:05:08. > :05:15.for Weston-Super-Mare's lifeboat station has raised

:05:16. > :05:17.more than ?500,000. The organisation has being trying

:05:18. > :05:19.to find a permanent home 12 possible sites have been

:05:20. > :05:24.rejected, but the RNLI says it hopes to make an announcement

:05:25. > :05:32.in the New Year. Finally, a gull that fell into a vat

:05:33. > :05:35.of curry near Tewkesbury has been listed by the RSPCA

:05:36. > :05:38.as one of its top ten most The bird's feathers were dyed

:05:39. > :05:41.orange, after it slipped into a container of chicken tikka

:05:42. > :05:43.masala, while trying to scavenge a piece

:05:44. > :05:45.of meat in a food factory. Staff at the Vale Wildlife Hospital

:05:46. > :05:47.used washing-up liquid to clean his feathers -

:05:48. > :05:59.and nicknamed him Gullfrazie! Now what has the weather

:06:00. > :06:14.got in store for us? A much reduced chance of seeing mist

:06:15. > :06:26.and fog tomorrow. The reason for that is a much more in the way of

:06:27. > :06:33.cloudi our own. If we look at the chart, it is rather be named. The

:06:34. > :06:39.fog towards eastern parts of southern England tonight. Sue the

:06:40. > :06:43.course of tomorrow, it is looking effectively dry and rather a quiet

:06:44. > :06:52.day for the weather. A quiet night coming up tonight. Some areas

:06:53. > :06:57.getting down to below freezing. The odd bit of fog forming during the

:06:58. > :07:05.evening. That should be restricted tomorrow morning. For most of us, a

:07:06. > :07:15.lot of cloud our own. That sets the tone for Friday. A few spots of

:07:16. > :07:25.drizzle possibly in the north of the region. Temperatures tomorrow

:07:26. > :07:31.ranging between 6-9 C. Talking about a change of temperature, as we head

:07:32. > :07:43.into Saturday night, we can see this weather front pushing in from the

:07:44. > :07:47.North into the region in the first part of Sunday. Much colder by the

:07:48. > :07:50.end of Sunday and as we head into the start of the new week.

:07:51. > :07:52.I am back with another update at 11.10pm.

:07:53. > :07:56.In the meantime, have a lovely evening.
