:00:00. > :00:24.There was a report of an altercation between a security guard and a

:00:25. > :00:28.member of the public. It was that we know that the young man involved has

:00:29. > :00:41.died as a result of that. How a discredited doctor

:00:42. > :00:45.from Bath is now getting How Bristol Rugby's Tom Varndell

:00:46. > :01:01.could make Premiership history. And rare footage of a West

:01:02. > :01:03.heritage is now being turned A security guard has been questioned

:01:04. > :01:07.on suspicion of manslaughter after a man died outside a shopping

:01:08. > :01:09.centre in Trowbridge. It's thought the man

:01:10. > :01:12.could have been shoplifting, and may have been injured

:01:13. > :01:15.as he was challenged. Our reporter Scott Ellis

:01:16. > :01:26.is there for us this evening. What more can you tell us? It was

:01:27. > :01:33.yesterday afternoon and a man in his 30s was spotted. They think he was

:01:34. > :01:39.shoplifting in the centre of Trowbridge. He is in his 30s and

:01:40. > :01:44.ears from Cornwall. Here's a rough sleeper and he is known to police

:01:45. > :01:47.and store detectives. He was seen coming out of Sainsbury's with

:01:48. > :01:50.bottles of alcohol stashed underneath his jacket next to his

:01:51. > :01:55.stomach stop he is followed by a store detective from Sainsbury's.

:01:56. > :02:00.Actually, eight store detective contracting to Cambridge. Truss

:02:01. > :02:05.Sainsbury's. This is the science shopping centre just in front of

:02:06. > :02:08.Asda in a centre of Trowbridge. There is an altercation between the

:02:09. > :02:13.two of them. The man with the bottles. The ground, the bottles

:02:14. > :02:18.smashed and he gets a very serious stomach injury. The paramedics are

:02:19. > :02:22.called, two ambulances, air ambulances landed the local park.

:02:23. > :02:25.They try to save his life, but he died in the car park just three

:02:26. > :02:26.o'clock this afternoon. It is an eyewitness account.

:02:27. > :02:29.First of all, he just tried to block him and then

:02:30. > :02:33.very adamant that he was getting away with this drink and then,

:02:34. > :02:37.I don't think it was like a thing that he meant to do,

:02:38. > :02:42.And as he tried to grab him, the other guy sort of tried to

:02:43. > :02:45.pull away and he sort of tripped and fallen on top of it.

:02:46. > :02:48.And then there was like loads of people around so I

:02:49. > :02:52.didn't see a lot of what was going on.

:02:53. > :02:59.The man was taken into questioning. The store detective, on suspicion of

:03:00. > :03:02.manslaughter, now released on unconditional bail. The detective

:03:03. > :03:03.told some of the things he was having to weigh up as he

:03:04. > :03:05.investigated this case. There's been various episodes

:03:06. > :03:07.we understand involving this Security staff from the surrounding

:03:08. > :03:10.stores during the day, but we are in the process of

:03:11. > :03:13.building up a picture to understand That is ready what this

:03:14. > :03:16.investigation is We need to understand whether or not

:03:17. > :03:20.force being used was proportionate to the circumstances

:03:21. > :03:32.that unravelled during the course of The police say they need more

:03:33. > :03:40.information. Two more eyewitnesses. Just after... It was busy because

:03:41. > :03:41.the schools had just come out. If anyone has permitted, contact the

:03:42. > :03:41.police. Well, earlier I spoke to James Kelly

:03:42. > :03:46.from the British Security Industry Association and asked him

:03:47. > :03:49.whether he'd heard of such Sadly, such tragedies do happen,

:03:50. > :03:57.but thankfully not very often. It is a dangerous job

:03:58. > :04:00.security officers do, they are often faced with serious

:04:01. > :04:03.danger and hostile attacks, What sort of guidelines

:04:04. > :04:12.do they work under if Of it as part of

:04:13. > :04:19.the industry that is regulated, such as our members,

:04:20. > :04:22.then they have two undergoes certain training in order

:04:23. > :04:24.to get their licence. If it is an in-house security

:04:25. > :04:29.guard, then they are not necessarily subject to the same

:04:30. > :04:32.strict regulatory requirements that If they are a security

:04:33. > :04:38.guard, with they have the same powers as just another member

:04:39. > :04:41.of the Public order they have a little bit more in terms

:04:42. > :04:44.of restraining in things like that? They are subject to

:04:45. > :04:48.the same requirements. They must use reasonable

:04:49. > :04:51.force and that reasonable It really revolves around

:04:52. > :05:06.what they honestly and instinctively believe is the threat

:05:07. > :05:09.that they face at that time. But they don't have powers

:05:10. > :05:11.like the police unless they are operating under some specific

:05:12. > :05:13.police authorised scheme. I don't know what the

:05:14. > :05:15.circumstances of this It seems like there are

:05:16. > :05:18.lots of different levels and lots of different

:05:19. > :05:20.rules, as well. I think for the regulated sector,

:05:21. > :05:28.it is clear enough. Whether they are a certain

:05:29. > :05:30.security guard or a door supervisor, then their

:05:31. > :05:35.training requirements are different. The concern might be

:05:36. > :05:37.where you have in-house security personnel who

:05:38. > :05:38.are not necessarily subject to the same

:05:39. > :05:42.training requirements might not be vetted as well as the

:05:43. > :05:46.contract it sector. Do you think that is something

:05:47. > :05:50.that needs addressing? Is something we have called

:05:51. > :05:54.for addressing for a very long time. In a shopping mall, you might have

:05:55. > :05:57.security guards that are regulated on one side of the shopping aisle

:05:58. > :06:01.and on the other side, you might well have in-house guards that

:06:02. > :06:08.are not necessarily subject to any Unless that particular

:06:09. > :06:14.retailer or other Thank you very much

:06:15. > :06:22.for joining us, Mr Kelly. Experts in child health say they're

:06:23. > :06:25.concerned that a former doctor from Bath is being given

:06:26. > :06:27.an international platform for his An MEP invited Andrew Wakefield

:06:28. > :06:34.to Brussels to show Mr Wakefield also says

:06:35. > :06:37.he's met Donald Trump Our Health Correspondent

:06:38. > :06:46.Matthew Hill reports. The BBC is what is

:06:47. > :06:51.known as fake news. It was the fake findings

:06:52. > :06:53.of Andrew Wakefield's paper to decades ago linking MMR

:06:54. > :06:56.vaccinations and autism that caused One of the signs of that is that

:06:57. > :07:00.for a whole generation we had no cases of measles

:07:01. > :07:07.here at the children's hospital. But two years ago a child went

:07:08. > :07:10.into A who was infected. They simpy passed another child

:07:11. > :07:13.who had had an operation and that child was also

:07:14. > :07:15.infected with measels. Yesterday, he was in Brussels

:07:16. > :07:24.to show his new film to some MEPS. An invitation by this Green MEP

:07:25. > :07:27.dcause such an outcry they had to move the venue outside

:07:28. > :07:30.the European Parliament. Requiring children to be vaccinated

:07:31. > :07:35.has passed with support. My oldest son, Ian,

:07:36. > :07:37.was walking and running. After the vaccine, he was no

:07:38. > :07:40.longer able to do that. The CBC had known all along

:07:41. > :07:53.there was this MMR autism risk. And his message is now

:07:54. > :07:55.reaching President Trump, who's just appointed someone

:07:56. > :07:57.who agrees with Mr Wakefield to chair an investigation

:07:58. > :07:59.into vaccine safety. I've met with many politicians

:08:00. > :08:06.over the last 22 years. Most of them look at their watch,

:08:07. > :08:08.they look at their phone. They are not interested

:08:09. > :08:15.in what your talking about. Donald Trump gave us 50 minutes

:08:16. > :08:18.to discuss a very serious issue. He understands it coming he gets it,

:08:19. > :08:21.he intends to do something This leading vaccine

:08:22. > :08:24.expert is horrified. It is alarming if it is true

:08:25. > :08:26.that people like Andrew Wakefield, who have been

:08:27. > :08:28.comprehensively discredited professionally, are getting the ear

:08:29. > :08:30.of people who are clearly very In the end, when it comes

:08:31. > :08:37.to public health decisions, you have to look objectively

:08:38. > :08:40.at what everybody has put together. The danger is that we have

:08:41. > :08:46.a return of this problem with people not immunising their

:08:47. > :08:49.children with the vaccine and we see more cases of measles,

:08:50. > :08:51.more cases of mumps, rubella, and people die

:08:52. > :08:53.as a consequence of it. Since Andrew Wakefield

:08:54. > :08:55.was discredited, The big fear now is

:08:56. > :09:03.they could fall again. Thanks for watching BBC

:09:04. > :09:22.Points West on this Friday Cold conditions remain over the

:09:23. > :09:27.course of the weekend and light snow towards the end of the programme

:09:28. > :09:37.forecasted. I am in Wales for one day only which has been turned into

:09:38. > :09:40.1750s Cornwall. By Amanda I am under strict instruction to meet Poldark.

:09:41. > :09:46.You must be in there somewhere. Hello!

:09:47. > :09:49.It's been confirmed that a body found in Bristol harbour on Sunday

:09:50. > :09:54.The 24-year-old, who was from Worle in North Somerset, was last seen

:09:55. > :09:57.leaving the nearby Motion nightclub in the early hours of

:09:58. > :10:06.His death is not being treated as suspicious.

:10:07. > :10:09.The fiancee of a Gloucestershire man who was knocked down is appealing

:10:10. > :10:13.An inquest was suspended after it heard Chris Smith may have argued

:10:14. > :10:16.with an unknown man in the minutes before he died.

:10:17. > :10:27.A great brother, a great son, a great uncle.

:10:28. > :10:33.Chris Smith was 41, a doting father of two young

:10:34. > :10:40.In the early hours of the 28th of June last year, he was struck

:10:41. > :10:44.by a white van outside the village of Staunton and died

:10:45. > :10:51.His fiancee Tina Spiers is desperate for the truth.

:10:52. > :11:00.She admits said they'd had a row the previous evening

:11:01. > :11:03.But his movements afterwards are largely unknown.

:11:04. > :11:04.The inquest into Chris' was suspended in December.

:11:05. > :11:07.A witness had given evidence to suggest he may

:11:08. > :11:11.have been seen arguing with someone before he died.

:11:12. > :11:13.Proceedings were halted for the police to conduct

:11:14. > :11:18.We are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

:11:19. > :11:24.We just would like to know how things

:11:25. > :11:26.happened and how we he ended up where he was because

:11:27. > :11:31.it was the completely opposite direction to home.

:11:32. > :11:34.Are you prepared to accept that this was a tragic accident?

:11:35. > :11:39.Because it is so out of character for Chris.

:11:40. > :11:42.Like I said, there was nothing up where he was

:11:43. > :11:47.And it was completely the opposite way to home.

:11:48. > :11:50.There are unanswered questions such as what was the father

:11:51. > :11:56.Why was he in near the middle of the road when struck by the vehicle?

:11:57. > :11:58.Questions the family hope the coroner will address.

:11:59. > :12:01.Any help would be fantastic because we've

:12:02. > :12:05.been left at a bit of a standstill for a while now.

:12:06. > :12:12.Gloucestershire Police have declined an interview but told the BBC that

:12:13. > :12:16.one or two of their inquiries are outstanding, but there is no

:12:17. > :12:26.Ben Godfrey, Bbc Midlands Today, Staunton in Gloucestershire.

:12:27. > :12:28.Rugby fans could see history made this evening.

:12:29. > :12:34.Bristol's Tom Varndell needs to score just one more try to break

:12:35. > :12:37.Alistair Durden is at Ashton Gate, where Bristol are playing

:12:38. > :12:48.Ali, it's an important night for the team too.

:12:49. > :12:54.Absolutely right. A draw or a win and Bristol are off the bottom of

:12:55. > :12:58.the premiership table and they have changed all 15 players from last

:12:59. > :13:03.week 's Anglo Welsh cup tie for this to. All the big names will be back

:13:04. > :13:08.and they will be well rested as well. That includes Tom Varndell,

:13:09. > :13:12.well known as one of the quickest players in rugby union. We would not

:13:13. > :13:16.look out of place in the Olympics 100 metres, I can tell you. He is

:13:17. > :13:20.one of the best finishes and tonight he has the chance to put himself in

:13:21. > :13:21.the record books as the premiership's all-time top tries

:13:22. > :13:34.Gora. -- scorer. Obviously, scoring tries

:13:35. > :13:47.is what I love to do. The guy on the wing at the end

:13:48. > :13:52.of the most of the moves. The clubs I've been at,

:13:53. > :13:57.I have always enjoyed scoring tries and it hasn't

:13:58. > :13:59.changed since I was young. Any player wants to leave

:14:00. > :14:01.their mark on the game. If I can do that

:14:02. > :14:04.with my try scoring, Varndell's talent for

:14:05. > :14:07.the try line was evident In only his second match he scored

:14:08. > :14:11.a hatrick the fastest And a year later he scored

:14:12. > :14:19.on his England debut. Fastforward 11 years and his try

:14:20. > :14:35.against sale last month took him He is obviously a bit of a freak.

:14:36. > :14:44.Give ball out wide and see him like a racehorse live. It is impressive

:14:45. > :14:49.to see. He's got a lot of pace and there is no substitute for that. I

:14:50. > :14:52.think Jason has helped a lot. He is creating space not just by himself

:14:53. > :14:53.and for Tom and Tom is feeding off that.

:14:54. > :14:55.His recent form has seen him rewarded with a new contract

:14:56. > :14:59.At just 30, he has the chance to add plenty more scores to that record.

:15:00. > :15:03.As you can see on the pitch, the last couple of months

:15:04. > :15:11.I love the city, it is a great city with a great fan base.

:15:12. > :15:15.The last sort of month has been really good for us.

:15:16. > :15:26.If we can do that, we should have a good year.

:15:27. > :15:34.I have got Tom's team-mate Jordan Crane here. You know him pretty

:15:35. > :15:39.well. How big an achievement is this going to be when, not if, he manages

:15:40. > :15:43.to break the record. As you say, it is going to be a formality. As long

:15:44. > :15:48.as he does it. Hopefully it is delighted that can help us get off

:15:49. > :15:52.the bottom of the table. I've known him since we were 16. He is always

:15:53. > :15:55.being the guy who when you give him the ball in space he's going to

:15:56. > :16:00.score a try. Is as quick as quick as it was then? That is one of the

:16:01. > :16:05.things that is incredible about him. At his age, he is not lost any pace.

:16:06. > :16:11.I remember at school when he ran the 100 metres in ten seconds in bare

:16:12. > :16:23.feet, so it is just incredible. What an athlete. Some finisher. This came

:16:24. > :16:26.to light, Bristol has a chance to get off the bottom of the table.

:16:27. > :16:31.Good psychologically. A difficult start to the season. We fought for

:16:32. > :16:36.every single game. The point is that we picked up before we got our first

:16:37. > :16:40.wins were massive. This next five games are going to determine where

:16:41. > :16:47.we end up. We can pick up some points. While the big boys are away

:16:48. > :16:51.at the six Nations. We are a chance and we can get some points to put

:16:52. > :16:59.pressure on Worcester. You made your comeback injury last week. By pride

:17:00. > :17:06.from their returning suite against Leicester? That would be nice. The

:17:07. > :17:14.turnaround was a bit too much from you. The bones were hurting this

:17:15. > :17:17.week. Hopefully I will get in and play some part against Leicester. I

:17:18. > :17:20.hope Bristol get the win. It's also a landmark night

:17:21. > :17:22.for Bath's Semesa Rokodoguni. He makes his 100th appearance

:17:23. > :17:25.for the club in their home game Tomorrow, Gloucester

:17:26. > :17:31.are away at Leicester, that sees the Burns brothers

:17:32. > :17:33.face each other. Billy for Gloucester,

:17:34. > :17:37.Freddie with the Tigers. And in football,

:17:38. > :17:40.these are the games. Swindon have goalkeeper

:17:41. > :17:43.Lawrence Vigoroux available for their game at Bury after his red

:17:44. > :17:54.card against Oxford was overturned. The rugby tonight starts at 7:45,

:17:55. > :17:56.we'll have the results at 22:00 and be able to tell

:17:57. > :17:59.you if Tom Varndell has Rare footage of an aircraft

:18:00. > :18:06.which is part of the West's heritage The Wayfarer was known

:18:07. > :18:11.as the lorry of the skies, and was the first commercial

:18:12. > :18:12.aircraft produced after Well it's now being turned

:18:13. > :18:18.into a documentary and one of the producers, Andrew Warren,

:18:19. > :18:27.joins us in the studio. Thank you for coming in. And sharing

:18:28. > :18:32.this but it is. It is gorgeous. In a loft. How did you come across this?

:18:33. > :18:36.Ladies that I've got this film. My husband used to work at the Bristol

:18:37. > :18:41.aeroplane company. Common have a look. She said that the work of the

:18:42. > :18:45.aircraft? She said I got no idea. We used to just bring a wage packet

:18:46. > :18:53.home. Let's talk about the wayfarer. Not the most glamorous to scripting,

:18:54. > :18:56.the lorry of the skies. It was designed up the road at the lorry

:18:57. > :19:01.housed in Clifton. What they have to do was today called the design staff

:19:02. > :19:06.because it was getting bombed. We certainly didn't want to lose your

:19:07. > :19:12.design staff. It was designed there, very rudimentary, but it was a real

:19:13. > :19:17.workhorse. A five tonne lorry of the airwaves, really. It is absolutely

:19:18. > :19:22.massive. You can get an idea of the scale there if you look at those

:19:23. > :19:27.shots. Do you consider it beautiful? Or is it a lump? I would say it

:19:28. > :19:35.would condiment Concorde lovely in a museum because it is so different.

:19:36. > :19:40.214 of these aircraft were sold. 16 Concorde. Drawing comparisons, in

:19:41. > :19:45.austerity Bristol, not a lot of money about after the war. It had a

:19:46. > :19:52.meal on the table for a lot of local people. Doctor Russell and leisurely

:19:53. > :19:57.freeze the designers of that were very proud of it. It created

:19:58. > :20:02.employment and powered by that great Bristol Hercules engines. We have

:20:03. > :20:07.got more footage of it. Listening to you, you can see the excitement and

:20:08. > :20:12.passion you have. When you first watched the footage, what was it

:20:13. > :20:17.like? Amazing. It is sound film. It is narrated and it gives great

:20:18. > :20:21.detail to how that aircraft can be taken anywhere in the world and

:20:22. > :20:25.simply repaired. Letters have a look at some of the narration in the

:20:26. > :20:30.film. This gives us unobstructed access to the full width of the

:20:31. > :20:34.hold. Any hold itself, ample tying down points are provided. It makes

:20:35. > :20:38.the passengers comfortable while in flight. I love that so much because

:20:39. > :20:43.I could just watch it all day. Is it the freighter or the wayfarer? Is at

:20:44. > :20:50.the passenger one? The wayfarer was the passenger aircraft. First civil

:20:51. > :20:56.aircraft produced by any British producer in the world. It ticked two

:20:57. > :20:59.boxes. The way the doors open: the clamshell doors, that was

:21:00. > :21:06.innovative. The Americans tried it with the Douglas aircraft, but they

:21:07. > :21:13.went from the site. For you go, the DVDs coming out. One thing you have

:21:14. > :21:16.to do come out, Concorde or wayfarer's which one. Interesting.

:21:17. > :21:22.I've got to go for Concorde, but you want a nice cross-section when you

:21:23. > :21:25.open a museum. That is what you're trying to achieve. It is like asking

:21:26. > :21:30.people to choose between their children. It has to be done. I

:21:31. > :21:32.really appreciate that. Good luck with the DVD. What is it called?

:21:33. > :21:40.Wins over Filton. Thank you. It's been one of the hottest hits

:21:41. > :21:44.on TV in a long time and today Some scenes for the new series

:21:45. > :21:47.are being filmed in Wells, which is being transformed

:21:48. > :21:50.into a Cornish market town. And as I'm sure you can guess,

:21:51. > :21:54.one particular star was in demand. Andy Howard turned detective

:22:10. > :22:29.can you help me out? I think I am one of

:22:46. > :22:52.they are doing the filming? Given their due, Poldark fans

:22:53. > :22:56.are a committed bunch. But all they could see

:22:57. > :22:58.from their vantage The top of a few heads

:22:59. > :23:05.and a town hall transformed Have you seen anything

:23:06. > :23:07.worthwhile yet? We watched this in Australia,

:23:08. > :23:15.so it is quite exciting. Do you stand on many benches

:23:16. > :23:18.in the middle of city Every now and then outside

:23:19. > :23:23.the fence, 2017 came to a In the past 20 years, the city has

:23:24. > :23:41.become very popular for TV You can't get through,

:23:42. > :23:45.you can't do nothing. You got to walk all the way

:23:46. > :23:48.back and all the way And you can't even

:23:49. > :24:00.get up there again. I take it you're not a fan of Paul

:24:01. > :24:05.Downton. -- Poldark. I don't watch it, let's put it like that. And I

:24:06. > :24:09.certainly won't now. I failed. I didn't see Aidan Turner. Not many

:24:10. > :24:17.did. I think a few were keen to wait out on that bench for as long as it

:24:22. > :24:23.would have been stopping him in the street.

:24:24. > :24:26.Now, we've had a couple of you asking on our Facebook page

:24:27. > :24:29.if Ian really is live in our rooftop studio every night!

:24:30. > :24:50.Those are the lights of Bristol right now and who's that down there?

:24:51. > :24:57.Yes, I really am here. Let me remind viewers this is points west are not

:24:58. > :25:04.Pinewood Studios. We do not have that technology. There are some some

:25:05. > :25:08.nights where I wish that we did. A cold spell of weather. The forecast

:25:09. > :25:10.this week in, that will remain an underpinning right through the

:25:11. > :25:14.course of Saturday and indeed through Sunday. There will be a view

:25:15. > :25:21.that a cloud around with the most part and there will be both times

:25:22. > :25:25.through both days since no. Perhaps snow showers, flurries. The

:25:26. > :25:28.humiliation of those will very limited. Maybe a centimetre very

:25:29. > :25:35.patchy fashion over the Cotswolds perhaps. Many of you will be seeing

:25:36. > :25:40.a few of this snow flurries during the day. Vulture and parts of Bath

:25:41. > :25:48.and Somerset. They may take you on a wider view. What remains with us is

:25:49. > :25:51.increasingly brisk north-easterly flow as we head into Morrow. That is

:25:52. > :25:57.running these disturbances all the way from the North Sea. On Sunday,

:25:58. > :26:05.everything will shift round to the east. It will be equally cold. An

:26:06. > :26:12.awkward mix on Saturday. The balance between rain, sleet and snow. For

:26:13. > :26:16.the rest of this evening, we will be seeing some light snow. That will

:26:17. > :26:21.drift away to the south. A largely dry picture. The odd wintry flurries

:26:22. > :26:24.here or there, but one thing or another, a markedly cold night in

:26:25. > :26:33.the grand scheme of things. Temperatures between zero and plus

:26:34. > :26:35.three. On into tomorrow morning, we will see some of these wintry

:26:36. > :26:39.flurries running in from the north-east. The balance of those in

:26:40. > :26:43.any one particular district is going to be a little bit awkward, but

:26:44. > :26:47.really the further north-east you are, the perhaps more prone. The

:26:48. > :26:54.Cotswolds, some as the high ground as he come further south. Nothing of

:26:55. > :27:01.great note, nothing on the scale of previous winters. Nothing like 2010

:27:02. > :27:06.2011. The winters are ticking around there, the wind chill will be huge.

:27:07. > :27:13.A cold day generally. At the strength of the wind and it will

:27:14. > :27:17.feel decidedly better. As it will again as we head through into

:27:18. > :27:21.Sunday. A similar sort of day, similar balance of weather. Next

:27:22. > :27:25.week, temperatures will actually slowly be on the rise. Those of you

:27:26. > :27:30.who are not aficionados of the cold weather, hang in there. There is

:27:31. > :27:36.hope. Or on a roof. Thank you very much, Ian. By the way, we have got a

:27:37. > :27:43.lovely shot of the moon right now which is beautiful. The full moon is

:27:44. > :27:47.no moon when it isn't peppery. That is real. That is real, too. Goodbye.
