:00:00. > :00:09.A day of reckoning - the family of a Bristol girl

:00:10. > :00:12.who vanished in Australia 50 years ago gather in court

:00:13. > :00:24.It's traumatising. The effect that it has on our family and will

:00:25. > :00:32.continue, there will no closure. Our other headlines tonight:

:00:33. > :00:34.Crowds of supporters of Marine A go home disappointed

:00:35. > :00:46.as his sentencing is delayed. It's Derby night at Ashton gate

:00:47. > :00:56.where Bristol are running out of chances to save themselves. And keep

:00:57. > :01:01.dancing. A knees up for Red Nose Day.

:01:02. > :01:05.The family of a Bristol toddler who vanished in Australia almost 50

:01:06. > :01:08.years ago broke down in tears today as a man was formally

:01:09. > :01:13.Three-year-old Cheryl disappeared in 1970

:01:14. > :01:17.As Andrew Plant reports, her family said at court today,

:01:18. > :01:29.no matter what happens, they'll be haunted forever.

:01:30. > :01:37.It doesn't matter what's going to happen. a family who lost retail 47

:01:38. > :01:40.years ago overwhelmed by news this morning that a man has been charged

:01:41. > :01:50.with her murder after what seemed an impossibly long time. It affects me,

:01:51. > :01:59.my father, my children. I cannot leave my children alone for one

:02:00. > :02:03.second. It was something they feared they would never see, a suspect

:02:04. > :02:11.detained by police almost 50 years after she vanished. Cheryl was a --

:02:12. > :02:15.the youngest of four. Her dad joined the Army after emigrating from

:02:16. > :02:19.Bristol. In 1970 on ED at the beach, the three-year-old disappeared the

:02:20. > :02:24.shower block in this quiet East Coast town -- a day at the beach.

:02:25. > :02:28.Come and stand where I'm standing, see what it feels like.

:02:29. > :02:33.the pain of losing their sister has never gone away. Like the

:02:34. > :02:41.disappearance of Madeleine McCann here, the case of Cheryl Grimmer is

:02:42. > :02:45.ingrained in the mind of every Australian parent. It changed her

:02:46. > :02:49.parents behaved. Cheryl's mother Carol felt safe letting her brothers

:02:50. > :02:53.take to the shower block to wash off the sand after the day at the beach.

:02:54. > :02:57.They were out of sight for only 30 seconds but that's all it took.

:02:58. > :03:01.Cheryl Grimmer disappeared less than two years after the family had

:03:02. > :03:05.emigrated from in Bristol. Both her mother and father died without ever

:03:06. > :03:09.knowing what had become of their youngest child but on their mother's

:03:10. > :03:12.deathbed, Cheryl's three older brothers that they would never give

:03:13. > :03:18.up searching for the truth about what happened to their sister. The

:03:19. > :03:26.63-year-old suspect would have been 16 at the time. Today, her father

:03:27. > :03:30.arrived at court hoping to see the man accused, but they left

:03:31. > :03:37.disappointed -- her family. He didn't appear for psychiatric

:03:38. > :03:42.reasons. Cheryl's brother said he still had a lifetime of questions to

:03:43. > :03:43.answer. We wanted to see him but it's not to be, it has been

:03:44. > :03:55.upsetting today. The man charged with Cheryl's murder

:03:56. > :04:03.is due back in court in May. The father of a baby boy whose son

:04:04. > :04:07.died at the RUH in Bath says he's shocked and disappointed

:04:08. > :04:09.that he hasn't been informed Actor Jamie King and his wife

:04:10. > :04:12.Tamara Pedemski lost their son Benjamin last year,

:04:13. > :04:15.following a decision to delay A police investigation was launched

:04:16. > :04:20.after allegations that The police now say that there

:04:21. > :04:31.will be no charges, but until Points West contacted

:04:32. > :04:34.Mr King, he wasn't aware of that. The NHS Trust says it's taking

:04:35. > :04:36.the matter very seriously and cooperating fully

:04:37. > :04:39.with the coroner's directions. The former Royal Marine

:04:40. > :04:42.from Somerset who shot dead a wounded Taliban fighter

:04:43. > :04:44.in Afghanistan will have to wait a little longer to hear if he's

:04:45. > :04:47.to be freed from prison. Alexander Blackman's murder

:04:48. > :04:49.conviction has already been But today a decision

:04:50. > :04:52.on his new sentence was deferred. Here's our Somerset

:04:53. > :04:56.correspondent Clinton Rogers. To cheers from waiting supporters,

:04:57. > :05:04.Alexander Blackman's wife arrived at the High Court full of hope

:05:05. > :05:07.that her husband might be Two hours later, she left

:05:08. > :05:17.disappointed, but philosophical. We're obviously disappointed not

:05:18. > :05:19.to have a decision today, but we understand that the judges

:05:20. > :05:22.wish to consider this important The same five judges that ten days

:05:23. > :05:32.ago reduced Blackman's conviction from murder to manslaughter say

:05:33. > :05:35.they need until next Tuesday So for now, he stays

:05:36. > :05:42.in Erlstoke Prison. He's already served three and a half

:05:43. > :05:46.years of a minimum eight-year sentence for murder,

:05:47. > :05:47.imposed by the original But this case has now provoked calls

:05:48. > :05:52.for the whole Court Martial Members of the armed forces should

:05:53. > :05:59.not be disadvantaged. In the House of Lords,

:06:00. > :06:05.Liberal Democrat peer Lord Burnett, a former Royal Marine,

:06:06. > :06:08.said the system was flawed and more A simple majority at a Court

:06:09. > :06:13.Marshall can convict a person. In Sergeant Blackman's case,

:06:14. > :06:15.five of the panel found him guilty That ratio would be insufficient

:06:16. > :06:34.in a civilian court. A former Naval Commander

:06:35. > :06:37.and one time head of the UK Royal Marines Reserves has said

:06:38. > :06:40.important lessons need to be learned from the Blackman case,

:06:41. > :06:42.not the least to consider the mental health of military men

:06:43. > :06:44.involved in such situations Where there are serious charges

:06:45. > :06:49.of this nature where the accused have been involved in operational

:06:50. > :06:55.combat situations, it should be mandatory that mental health factors

:06:56. > :06:59.are taken into consideration Today, the High Court Blackman's QC

:07:00. > :07:02.said the former Royal Marine was the last casualty of a failed

:07:03. > :07:05.war, and he should be You're watching Friday's Points West

:07:06. > :07:15.with David and Alex. Don't go anywhere because we've lots

:07:16. > :07:21.more for you tonight, including an unexpected guest

:07:22. > :07:24.in the garden. We find out who's popping

:07:25. > :07:38.in when the lights go out. weather is serving up plenty of

:07:39. > :07:42.sunshine. Details towards the end of the programme.

:07:43. > :07:45.Some of the days other news and the Cotswolds MP

:07:46. > :07:48.Geoffrey Clifton-Brown says his staff are still affected

:07:49. > :07:52.by witnessing the terror attacks in Westminster this week.

:07:53. > :07:55.His office overlooks the scene, and people who work for him saw

:07:56. > :08:04.He told this week's Sunday Politics they were all still coming to terms

:08:05. > :08:14.They didn't see the carnage that the car had caused over Westminster

:08:15. > :08:19.Bridge, ploughing into pedestrians as they went. Certainly the lady

:08:20. > :08:21.that works for me is still affected by it. It is a deeply shocking thing

:08:22. > :08:22.to have happened. You can see more on that

:08:23. > :08:34.on Sunday Politics this We will also talk about whether the

:08:35. > :08:37.police in this part of the world should be armed and we'll talk about

:08:38. > :08:40.Brexit and all sorts of other things as well. Make sure you change your

:08:41. > :08:44.clock so you don't miss it! The Labour leader was in Bristol

:08:45. > :08:46.today, launching his party's campaign for the West of England

:08:47. > :08:50.metro mayor election. Voters in Bristol, Bath

:08:51. > :08:52.and North East Somerset, and South Gloucestershire will go

:08:53. > :08:54.to the polls in May. It's a crucial test

:08:55. > :08:57.for Jeremy Corbyn, with many senior figures in the local party unhappy

:08:58. > :08:59.with his leadership. Here's our political

:09:00. > :09:11.editor Paul Barltrop. It gives me absolute pleasure and

:09:12. > :09:13.delight to welcome not only one of the most magnificent men I've ever

:09:14. > :09:15.met and there's not many of them... Among Corbynistas,

:09:16. > :09:18.he's almost adored. Like her leader, Lesley Mansell's

:09:19. > :09:20.rise to prominence was much helped by support from

:09:21. > :09:25.Momentum left-wingers. There were many at today's event,

:09:26. > :09:30.far outnumbering critics. None of Bristol's Labour MPs

:09:31. > :09:32.wanted him as leader, only Kerry McCarthy came today

:09:33. > :09:34.and looked unenthusiastic. She's alarmed by the party's

:09:35. > :09:50.performance in the polls, We have a good campaigning strategy,

:09:51. > :09:54.we have a very enthusiastic candidates for the metro mayors.

:09:55. > :09:57.Then why is it not working? It would help if people could occasionally

:09:58. > :09:58.get round to discussing the policies we face in this country.

:09:59. > :10:01.The West of England metro mayor contest so far has six candidates.

:10:02. > :10:03.Labour are vying with the Conservatives,

:10:04. > :10:04.Liberal Democrats, Greens, Ukip and an Independent,

:10:05. > :10:08.He's significant: a former Labour election candidate who's deeply

:10:09. > :10:21.He left the party because of you. What do you think of that? Well,

:10:22. > :10:22.he's made his decision, it's his choice.

:10:23. > :10:27.Others in the local party are more forthcoming.

:10:28. > :10:32.I was a bit dismayed, but I've talked to people about it and they

:10:33. > :10:34.think it has an enormous impact. For an embattled leader,

:10:35. > :10:44.today was a welcome break. Issue of unity today by Jeremy

:10:45. > :10:48.Corbyn was preaching mostly to the converted. What's more important is

:10:49. > :10:57.what people vote on May the 4th. We've got a special debate programme

:10:58. > :10:59.planned for April so you will be able to see all of the candidates

:11:00. > :11:03.and discuss the issues. A couple from Gloucestershire whose

:11:04. > :11:05.son died in a road accident have Jimmy Edmonds and Jane Harris

:11:06. > :11:09.travelled around America meeting They hope their film -

:11:10. > :11:20.and the charity they've set up - will encourage people to talk

:11:21. > :11:21.openly about death. Film-makers always put their heart

:11:22. > :11:25.and soul into their projects. But for Jimmy and Jane,

:11:26. > :11:38.this film is deeply personal because it's about them and much

:11:39. > :11:40.more than that, it's We've travelled down

:11:41. > :11:43.the Ho Chi Minh Highway to the place our son had died

:11:44. > :11:46.in a road accident. Josh was killed in a motorbike

:11:47. > :11:52.accident in Vietnam six years ago. As film-makers, they turned

:11:53. > :11:55.to what they know best to help with their grief and tonight

:11:56. > :12:04.is the first public screening of their film,

:12:05. > :12:06.A Love That Never Dies. Dear Joshua, we're older now,

:12:07. > :12:08.much older, but still I wear your clothes,

:12:09. > :12:15.your jeans, your shorts, Grief is often described

:12:16. > :12:21.as a journey, so the couple set off on a physical journey

:12:22. > :12:25.across America, talking with a shared understanding

:12:26. > :12:27.of their suffering - Sometimes I just come

:12:28. > :12:37.in and I say hi, Jordan, sometimes I open the door and peek

:12:38. > :12:41.in at night and say goodnight, son. It's just to find some

:12:42. > :12:43.familiarity and... As Jane and Jimmy shared their

:12:44. > :12:58.experiences with other parents, their film now means those stories

:12:59. > :13:03.can be shared with an audience. What they're doing, giving people

:13:04. > :13:06.a voice to their grief, I think it's amazing and we need

:13:07. > :13:11.to tear down the barriers and walls What I hated most was people

:13:12. > :13:19.turning away from me. Josh's parents hope the film will be

:13:20. > :13:25.screened across the UK, the US One woman came up to me

:13:26. > :13:38.and said she was terrified Six years since Josh's death,

:13:39. > :13:47.what we're trying say here is that he still lives on in us

:13:48. > :13:51.and in our relationships With his friends and he's living

:13:52. > :14:00.on within the film as well. The couple want this film to help

:14:01. > :14:02.not just bereaved parents, but everyone to better understand

:14:03. > :14:13.grief and its effects. Well, if you want to catch that

:14:14. > :14:17.film, two extra showings are being put on because the first

:14:18. > :14:23.was a sell-out. They're at the Vue cinema in Stroud

:14:24. > :14:26.on fifth April and the Scott cinema Now we've told you before

:14:27. > :14:32.about Harmonie Rose from Bath, the little girl who lost

:14:33. > :14:35.all her limbs after Well, now she's learning to take her

:14:36. > :14:39.first steps with a walker. The three-year-old is undergoing

:14:40. > :14:44.physiotherapy to help her. Her mum says, "She sure knows how

:14:45. > :14:47.to make a sad day better," and she can't express how

:14:48. > :14:54.proud they are. And we wanted to share these

:14:55. > :14:59.pictures with you too. It's a wily red deer stag who's been

:15:00. > :15:03.stealing bird nuts from gardens It was filmed by Dr Langbein,

:15:04. > :15:13.who says the stag returns night after night to its favourite haunts

:15:14. > :15:16.on the edge of Exmoor. Many local people probably have no

:15:17. > :15:23.idea they have a late-night visitor. You can see how this particular

:15:24. > :15:26.animal has worked out how to use the very tip of his antlers to knock

:15:27. > :15:29.off the bird feeders Gloucester Rugby Club

:15:30. > :15:41.play their first match tonight since their head coach Laurie Fisher

:15:42. > :15:46.left three weeks ago. It's a local derby against Bristol,

:15:47. > :15:48.whose Premiership status Alistair Durden is at

:15:49. > :15:52.Ashton Gate for us. Ali, neither side are in

:15:53. > :16:01.great shape, are they? The truth is both these teams have

:16:02. > :16:13.disappointingly underperformed. Bristol are on the cliff edge and

:16:14. > :16:22.Gloucester haven't improved much since last season. Their head coach

:16:23. > :16:25.Twitter to resign from his job. Dear me, the wheels are really

:16:26. > :16:28.coming off now at Kinhsholm. Gloucester Rugby head coach

:16:29. > :16:37.Laurie Fisher has left the club following Saturday's

:16:38. > :16:42.defeat by harlequins. He tweeted it was time to make

:16:43. > :16:47.room for someone else. I have a huge amount of respect

:16:48. > :16:55.for Laurie Fisher and I'm sad to see him go but it didn't unfold

:16:56. > :16:58.the way we hoped. The players want to

:16:59. > :17:00.get back on the pitch desperately after the disappointment

:17:01. > :17:04.of the harlequins game and we just want to make sure we

:17:05. > :17:07.put the wrongs right. Hopefully it does spur a reaction

:17:08. > :17:10.but that's life and how things go We want to get a reaction for this

:17:11. > :17:14.weekend and get a result. We want to play well

:17:15. > :17:29.for each other and put a bit Let's get a fan's view of what

:17:30. > :17:34.happened. Danny, was a great Laurie Fisher took the blame for all of

:17:35. > :17:40.this? Well, it came from the man himself. He said on Twitter that he

:17:41. > :17:44.doesn't think he's up to the job and so that the consensus, really. you

:17:45. > :17:49.think the players let him down? It's always the case but I think the

:17:50. > :17:54.squad we've had now compared to the squad we've had for the last ten or

:17:55. > :17:58.15 years, look where Gloucester were ten or 15 years ago and look where

:17:59. > :18:06.they are now so the squad have let them down but it's all systematic.

:18:07. > :18:11.Do you expect a morale boost of a win tonight? I hope so but don't

:18:12. > :18:13.expect anything any more! Lets get a Bristol perspective because they

:18:14. > :18:17.really are on the brink at the moment. Kris Boyd the chairman is

:18:18. > :18:24.with me. Is this a must win for you tonight? Eight points behind, every

:18:25. > :18:32.game is a must win. The important thing for us, whatever happens, is

:18:33. > :18:35.the future. We got one of the best young coaches in the world coming

:18:36. > :18:39.next season. He's saying some of the best players in the world. A lot to

:18:40. > :18:42.look forward to. Obvious they were going to fight hard to stay in this

:18:43. > :18:47.league but if we don't, we're going to be even stronger. They're still

:18:48. > :18:53.coming whatever happens. There are no get out causes, they're coming

:18:54. > :18:57.whatever happens. We have a vision of where we're going to be in three

:18:58. > :19:03.years, not next year. you didn't expect this this season, did you? We

:19:04. > :19:10.expected not to be in this difficult period. Hindsight a difficult thing.

:19:11. > :19:13.We needed an extra experience and we didn't have that and that's why we

:19:14. > :19:19.were in trouble. We're never going to be there again. Steve and I sat

:19:20. > :19:22.down and we're very fortunate to have his continued backing. We're

:19:23. > :19:28.still going to win the European Cup. We look forward to that moment. It's

:19:29. > :19:32.Bristol versus Gloucester tonight, Bath against Saracens is on Sunday.

:19:33. > :19:35.As far as football is concerned, Forest Green Rovers can take a big

:19:36. > :19:40.step towards the football league. The top of the table at the moment

:19:41. > :19:49.after the win on Tuesday night and tomorrow they head to second placed

:19:50. > :19:55.Lincoln catlike city. Bristol Rovers are taking over 4000 supporters to

:19:56. > :19:59.their game against Coventry City and the Swindon versus Millwall match

:20:00. > :20:06.kicks off at 1:30pm. If you do basketball fan, the Bristol Flyers

:20:07. > :20:07.are on BBC sport tonight. That's it from me, I'm getting some funny

:20:08. > :20:13.looks. I can't think why! Now it probably hasn't

:20:14. > :20:15.escaped your notice that Lots of you have been doing your bit

:20:16. > :20:22.- even our youngest viewers have In a moment we'll see more

:20:23. > :20:27.of what you've been getting up to in the name of Comic Relief,

:20:28. > :20:29.but first Steve Knibbs is in Gloucestershire at one

:20:30. > :20:32.of the official call centres. So if you're wondering

:20:33. > :20:34.where your money goes, here's one example -

:20:35. > :21:00.the Bath and North East This team are poised for your

:21:01. > :21:04.donation when the phone line opens. They have just finished a 24-hour

:21:05. > :21:10.table tennis ping-pong malathion and they have raised a massive ?1500.

:21:11. > :21:14.We'll be finding out more about how the call centre works later but

:21:15. > :21:20.let's find out where some of the money raised goes. The bass and

:21:21. > :21:25.North East Somerset carers centre. It helps young people who may miss

:21:26. > :21:28.out on some of their childhood, because they have to look

:21:29. > :21:31.after someone who's ill or disabled. It's 6am in Bristol and while most

:21:32. > :21:34.children are being woken up to get ready for school,

:21:35. > :21:36.nine-year-old Becca's day Here's your codeine

:21:37. > :21:40.and your cup of tea. Becca is a young carer

:21:41. > :21:46.who looks after her mum. My mum has fibromyalgia,

:21:47. > :21:55.which gives her a lot of pain and she doesn't really want to move

:21:56. > :21:57.when it's hurting. Becca's mum's condition means

:21:58. > :22:02.she is in constant pain. She can't do the things that most

:22:03. > :22:05.mums can and some days she is physically unable to look

:22:06. > :22:08.after herself, so Becca It's hard sometimes

:22:09. > :22:11.because you've got more But just down the road in Bath,

:22:12. > :22:22.there is a project funded by Comic Relief that gives children

:22:23. > :22:24.like Becca the chance to be a child and forget

:22:25. > :22:29.about their responsibilities. Sometimes I can't hug my mum

:22:30. > :22:31.because she is very hurting. Bath and North East Somerset Carers

:22:32. > :22:34.Centre is one of many comic relief projects that offer a piece

:22:35. > :22:51.of normality for children living If you do need tonight, that's the

:22:52. > :22:55.sort of place where your money will be spent. Let's talk to Jane

:22:56. > :22:58.Stewart. It was you ready to get involved, the first time you've done

:22:59. > :23:03.it, why? I just thought it was a good cause and an opportunity to do

:23:04. > :23:07.something different and make a difference. How's it going to work?

:23:08. > :23:11.You got people dressed up behind you. Guess, they're friends and work

:23:12. > :23:15.colleagues and everybody we've got here are your employees or friends

:23:16. > :23:19.and family so it is a great chance to come together as a team and do

:23:20. > :23:23.something for one night to do something that makes a big

:23:24. > :23:29.difference. Stewart, you're one of the bosses. This was a no-brainer

:23:30. > :23:35.when Jane Askew, I. Absolutely! She had my arm up my back at the time!

:23:36. > :23:38.It really does make a difference to people less fortunate. You're not

:23:39. > :23:45.looking tired after the table tennis. What was it like? About 24

:23:46. > :23:56.hours of torture! Losing to this one! is incredible, we've raised

:23:57. > :24:00.?1500 since Wednesday so hopefully, it is still open, so carry on

:24:01. > :24:04.giving. the phone lines open at seven o'clock. Thanks for joining

:24:05. > :24:15.us. If you want to donate you tonight, you can get the details on

:24:16. > :24:23.the website. The website is... CROWD SHOUT WEBSITE ADDRESS.

:24:24. > :24:24.Well done to them. Well, we all needed a bit

:24:25. > :24:27.of light relief here, too, so we thought we'd join

:24:28. > :24:29.in the action. Our camera crews are doing

:24:30. > :24:33.a sterling job of filming us And this is our gallery -

:24:34. > :24:57.the team in there joining in, too. Yes, indeed, I'm waiting the

:24:58. > :25:05.corporate uniform of choice! I'll take it off because it's difficult

:25:06. > :25:08.to speak when you've got a sniffle. A glorious weekend as this picture

:25:09. > :25:11.suggests. These are the scenes we can expect. There will be the

:25:12. > :25:15.prospect that some of you will wake up tomorrow morning to what appears

:25:16. > :25:18.to be a rather grim start in terms of fog and low cloud but that will

:25:19. > :25:22.burn off and fully wall-to-wall sunshine throughout the course of

:25:23. > :25:26.Saturday and a breezy day and that wind still coming from an inherently

:25:27. > :25:30.chilly direction. The sun will offset that so if you're out in the

:25:31. > :25:33.breeze it will feel pleasantly warm. It will do so for Sunday. The

:25:34. > :25:38.difference for Sunday's latest of the afternoon and evening, we will

:25:39. > :25:42.inherit a little bit more in the way of broken cloud from the east. There

:25:43. > :25:45.is a wider look at how things are shaping up and with very fortuitous

:25:46. > :25:50.timing, high pressure has decided it will blow across northern parts of

:25:51. > :25:55.the British Isles, maintaining an easterly flow across other parts of

:25:56. > :26:06.England wind it will be quite brisk at times. It will be adding up

:26:07. > :26:09.faintly perceptible chill. For us, it will be a pleasant weekend all

:26:10. > :26:13.round. For the rest of the weekend into tonight, clear skies which will

:26:14. > :26:17.remain in place so it will turn into a chilly night and will turn into

:26:18. > :26:21.one where we start to see perhaps some patches of fog and some

:26:22. > :26:26.associated low cloud developing. Not everywhere, mind you, but the end

:26:27. > :26:28.result temperature rise be somewhere between two and four Celsius by

:26:29. > :26:33.daybreak tomorrow switch goes without saying a chilly soccer

:26:34. > :26:37.Saturday and that will be accompanied for some of you by some

:26:38. > :26:41.of these cloudy or foggy conditions. By about nine o'clock, that should

:26:42. > :26:44.have burnt off for this time of year, given the strength of the

:26:45. > :26:47.sunshine, and if you started the day like that you will catch up with

:26:48. > :26:53.heavy one else with sunshine to the cause of the day. A will see the

:26:54. > :26:57.wind arrows sticking by. They will be a breezy story but it will not

:26:58. > :27:04.disclose temperatures which will feel pleasantly warm, up to 14 or 15

:27:05. > :27:09.Celsius. As we head through into Sunday, in many respects, a similar

:27:10. > :27:12.sort of day, another bone dry day, similar temperatures again. As I

:27:13. > :27:15.mentioned, they will be more than we have cloud coming from the east

:27:16. > :27:18.through the afternoon and evening but as we go into Monday, it's

:27:19. > :27:22.effectively moderate the same. We're going to see the weather tending to

:27:23. > :27:25.break down into something more unsettled. Whatever you're doing,

:27:26. > :27:41.have a brilliant weekend. Ian, do you want to buy my broken

:27:42. > :27:45.barometer? No pressure! Go on, then! We've been heeding that all week and

:27:46. > :27:47.it's still not funny! Have a nice weekend and enjoy Red
