:00:16. > :00:17.for hours this afternoon after a gas tanker caught fire near Chippenham.

:00:18. > :00:20.The road had to be closed in both directions, meaning long delays

:00:21. > :00:28.for those trying to get away for the Easter weekend.

:00:29. > :00:31.The last thing anyone wanted on one of the busiest days

:00:32. > :00:34.Miles of tailbacks and motorists going nowhere fast.

:00:35. > :00:39.A tanker carrying compressed gas caught fire at around half past 12,

:00:40. > :00:44.completely shutting the M4 between Chippenham and Bath.

:00:45. > :00:47.Dozens of people got out of their car because it was

:00:48. > :01:05.a particular spectacular sight as you can imagine.

:01:06. > :01:07.This was before any of the emergency vehicles got there,

:01:08. > :01:12.People were having a look into the police came past

:01:13. > :01:14.on the hard shoulder telling everyone to get back in their

:01:15. > :01:21.Another driver told the BBC she had been stuck in traffic for two hours,

:01:22. > :01:34.Stationary for two and a half hours. Traffic is now moving.

:01:35. > :01:38.The RSPCA in the West is warning people not to use glue traps

:01:39. > :01:40.to catch pests after two owls got stuck.

:01:41. > :01:42.The birds are currently being cared for at the West

:01:43. > :01:46.This one was unable to move its wings when it was found

:01:47. > :01:50.and was exhausted from trying to get free.

:01:51. > :01:53.Young homeless people in Bristol are being offered the chance

:01:54. > :01:55.to renovate derelict council houses which they can then rent

:01:56. > :01:59.The city council is looking to do up its old properties,

:02:00. > :02:02.while giving young apprentices the skills they need to find work.

:02:03. > :02:04.It's a radical approach to the city's growing housing crisis

:02:05. > :02:16.18-year old Sophie has been through tough times.

:02:17. > :02:19.She found herself homeless after troubles with her family.

:02:20. > :02:21.Now a pilot scheme has given her somewhere to live

:02:22. > :02:26.Yeah, painting and decorating, that's what I want to do.

:02:27. > :02:34.The council provides once derelict homes for free.

:02:35. > :02:38.A charity supplies the funding to do them up.

:02:39. > :02:41.A local college does the training and young people end up

:02:42. > :02:46.with new skills and a place to live for a peppercorn rent.

:02:47. > :02:48.What happened here is that the ceiling came down

:02:49. > :02:51.completely and there was damp everywhere on the walls.

:02:52. > :02:54.For those behind the project it's one way of tackling the rising

:02:55. > :03:00.numbers of young people caught up in the housing crisis.

:03:01. > :03:03.So Bristol predicts there is going to be over 700 young

:03:04. > :03:05.people homeless this year, but that really hides the people

:03:06. > :03:10.who are sofa surfing or living in other difficult circumstances

:03:11. > :03:12.where they don't come to the forefront, so the predictions

:03:13. > :03:15.are that it's getting worse and actually it's getting worse cos

:03:16. > :03:17.people can't afford anywhere to live and that's the difficulty.

:03:18. > :03:20.We need newer, cheaper housing options.

:03:21. > :03:24.So far, this approach is small scale.

:03:25. > :03:26.They are currently renovating two homes in Bristol.

:03:27. > :03:32.But, having proved it can work, they are now looking for many more.

:03:33. > :03:35.I think if there are properties that need to be brought back into use,

:03:36. > :03:38.then we are more than happy to get behind them and provide funding

:03:39. > :03:41.for projects like this that help to get young homeless people

:03:42. > :03:43.back into employment, but also bring old empty housing

:03:44. > :03:50.It's an idea then that could spread and generation rent needs every

:03:51. > :03:59.After 90 years performing at shows and events,

:04:00. > :04:01.the Royal Signals White Helmets team is being disbanded.

:04:02. > :04:03.They're famous for their death-defying stunts -

:04:04. > :04:04.feats of balance and acrobatics on motorbikes.

:04:05. > :04:08.The Army says it's keen to move with the times and so the display

:04:09. > :04:11.team based at Blandford Forum in Dorset will hang up their hats

:04:12. > :04:22.They are recognised by many as the best in the world,

:04:23. > :04:24.immaculately turned out and capable of any number of

:04:25. > :04:30.Since the very first public displays of joint precision horsemanship

:04:31. > :04:36.and motorcycle riding, they've travelled the length

:04:37. > :04:39.and breadth of Britain, amazing the crowds and keeping

:04:40. > :04:51.In the old days, the Army used motorcycles to carry messages.

:04:52. > :04:54.Times have moved on and the Army's decided it's time to reflect that.

:04:55. > :05:04.The world changes and these represent the former

:05:05. > :05:09.communication days when we used tdispatch riders.

:05:10. > :05:11.Communications today is fantastic and very much electronic

:05:12. > :05:17.and the Army must live with those times.

:05:18. > :05:19.And the Royal Corps of Signals in particular is a very

:05:20. > :05:26.But so many remember the White Helmets from the local

:05:27. > :05:28.shows of their childhoods and there is a feeling

:05:29. > :05:46.A lot of children and families enjoy this sort of display.

:05:47. > :05:50.They are such a good group of guys and the teamwork and effort

:05:51. > :05:53.To lose them, it is just such a shame.

:05:54. > :05:56.And so this will be the last season for the motorcycle display team.

:05:57. > :05:58.These volunteer soldiers will go back to the regular post

:05:59. > :06:00.in September and nine decades of discipline, courage,

:06:01. > :06:03.trust and agility will become a very special part

:06:04. > :06:08.Onto football now, and it was a mixed Good Friday for our teams.

:06:09. > :06:09.In the Championship, Bristol City secured

:06:10. > :06:13.Not such good news for Bristol Rovers who lost 3-1 away

:06:14. > :06:16.at Gillingham or for Swindon who failed to score at home.

:06:17. > :06:19.In League Two, Yeovil lost away at Newport and Cheltenham

:06:20. > :06:22.Better news in the National League though - Forest Green Rovers best

:06:23. > :06:28.And Chippenham Town have been crowned league champions,

:06:29. > :06:34.They take the Southern Premier title because second-place

:06:35. > :06:36.Leamington failed to beat Biggleswade this afternoon.

:06:37. > :06:44.The Bluebirds will now play at their highest ever level.

:06:45. > :06:46.Let's find out what the weather is looking like for the rest

:06:47. > :06:49.of the Easter weekend now with Sarah Farmer.

:06:50. > :06:51.Hello, and a very good evening to you.

:06:52. > :06:53.Now, this Easter bank holiday weekend certainly looks to be

:06:54. > :06:56.fresher than last weekend and that is courtesy of this area

:06:57. > :06:58.of high pressure just to the south-west of the country,

:06:59. > :07:01.which is drawing in a north-westerly flow.

:07:02. > :07:03.So, a cooler feel to things through the course of this weekend.

:07:04. > :07:06.Into this evening and it looks like we will see that cloud

:07:07. > :07:08.continuing to thicken and some outbreaks of rain

:07:09. > :07:14.Patchy and generally light in nature, and it will tend to ease

:07:15. > :07:17.through by the time we reach the early hours.

:07:18. > :07:21.Our overnight temperatures holding at around 8, 9 degrees.

:07:22. > :07:24.So a bit of cloud lingering into first thing tomorrow morning,

:07:25. > :07:27.perhaps some spots of dampness as well but that should clear

:07:28. > :07:29.through and we will see some brighter skies developing

:07:30. > :07:36.Some sunny breaks here and there, temperatures up to 12, 13 degrees.

:07:37. > :07:39.Taking a look through the rest of the weekend, cloudy conditions

:07:40. > :07:41.for much of Easter Sunday, possibly seeing some rain later,

:07:42. > :07:48.one or two showers could be on the way come Monday.

:07:49. > :07:51.We're back with an update in the late news.

:07:52. > :07:53.For now, from me, have a lovely evening.

:07:54. > :08:17.To think that this time last weekend, temperatures were in the

:08:18. > :08:23.20s. They got up to 25.5. Much cooler across the country this

:08:24. > :08:27.weekend. And this headline is true for the weather next week. That cool

:08:28. > :08:31.air stream from the north will persist. The mild air tries to get

:08:32. > :08:37.in, but never really wins. What have we got for the rest of today? The

:08:38. > :08:42.rain we had across Wales earlier will move southwards, but once the

:08:43. > :08:47.rain reaches you, it will be much lighter. Across many northern areas,

:08:48. > :08:56.the skies will clear up altogether. It will be a nippy night. Certainly

:08:57. > :08:57.a touch of frost northern areas, but not in the south. There will
