:01:12. > :01:14.He'd been hiding from justice in Spain for the past six ydars

:01:15. > :01:17.He was supposed to be serving 14 years in prison

:01:18. > :01:23.Mohammed Alam came originally from Bangladesh.

:01:24. > :01:27.He moved to Bradford and thdn to Cheltenham in 2007.

:01:28. > :01:31.And it was there that he abtsed and raped his victim in Hester's Way

:01:32. > :01:40.sometime between October 2007 and December 2008.

:01:41. > :01:42.He was convicted at Gloucester Crown Court in March 2010.

:01:43. > :01:45.But, by that time, he'd already fled to Spain,

:01:46. > :01:49.so he was convicted in his `bsence and sentenced to 14 years.

:01:50. > :01:57.In a restaurant in the resort of Playa de las Americas in Tenerife.

:01:58. > :01:59.He was caught thanks to this police operation known

:02:00. > :02:04.It publicises British criminals wanted on the Costa del

:02:05. > :02:07.Crime in Spain and boasts impressive figures.

:03:56. > :04:02.Every day, 50 tonnes more arrives, pulled from sewage pipes

:04:03. > :04:06.across our region, smoulderhng here for months, mostly madd up

:04:07. > :04:15.You can really see the wipes in that white stuff.

:04:16. > :04:22.They're marketed as flushable wipes and they're not.

:04:23. > :04:27.You can put anything down the toilet but it blocks up and

:04:28. > :04:33.If they get mixed up with f`t as well, that's another bad thing

:04:34. > :04:37.because they'll absorb the fat and it will just block even more.

:04:38. > :04:41.This is a supermarket brand of flushable wet wipe.

:04:42. > :04:53.The paper quickly disintegr`tes but the wipe stays intact,

:04:54. > :04:57.and this is what can happen as wipes collect in the sewers underground,

:04:58. > :05:01.forming blockages that are expensive to fix.

:05:02. > :05:04.This pile has been here for 20 weeks.

:05:05. > :05:07.This is all stuff that's bedn cleaned out of the sewer system

:05:08. > :05:11.I've seen a golf ball down there, there's a plastic dinosaur tp here,

:05:12. > :05:17.but the white things are all so-called flushable wet wipds.

:05:18. > :05:21.They've been here nearly five months and they're still all in ond piece.

:05:22. > :05:26.Wessex Water reckon that thdy're responsible for 13,000 blockages

:05:27. > :05:32.They say the cost of dealing with that is ?5 million.

:05:33. > :05:35.The flushable wipes industrx say their products pass rigorous

:05:36. > :05:46.The wipes industry has made a huge amount of investment into m`king

:05:47. > :05:48.flushable wipes products as weak as possible for when they enter

:05:49. > :05:52.The biggest problem is people putting things down the toilet

:05:53. > :05:58.that should never be there in the first place.

:05:59. > :06:07.They block the sewer and yot have a choice of either backing sewer into

:06:08. > :06:11.people's home or releasing sewage directly into our rivers, sdas and

:06:12. > :06:15.whatever they are carrying with them, in this case wet wipes, is

:06:16. > :06:17.carried with that and that hs how they end up on our coast.

:06:18. > :06:20.But scientists say none of the wipes tested disintegrated,

:06:21. > :06:23.Wessex are working with other water companies

:06:24. > :06:28.They say almost anything can be flushed away but that doesn't

:06:29. > :06:39.Avon and Somerset Police officers have bid a fond farewell to one

:06:40. > :06:43.of their longest-serving police horses, who retired today.

:06:44. > :06:47.Redland has been with the force since 2003, serving at football

:06:48. > :06:49.matches, demonstrations, including the Bristol riots,
