:00:58. > :01:07.in Yeovil, which it says is worth more than ?250,000.
:01:08. > :01:10.The deal will see the company, previously known as Agusta Westland,
:01:11. > :01:13.providing service and training support for the UK military's
:01:14. > :01:16.But tonight there are calls for the Government to do more
:01:17. > :01:18.to safeguard the future of the Yeovil site.
:01:19. > :01:22.The minister in charge of buying things for the Armed Forces came
:01:23. > :01:24.to Yeovil keen to trumpet today's announcement as great news
:01:25. > :01:27.for the local economy, in particular the workforce here.
:01:28. > :01:29.It's a deal that will secure the cutting-edge aircraft
:01:30. > :01:32.for the Royal Navy and the army, and I know it will support hundreds
:01:33. > :01:40.of skilled jobs right across the South West.
:01:41. > :01:44.It's all about these helicopters - the Wildcat, 62 of which were made
:01:45. > :01:47.in Yeovil, for service in the British Navy and Army.
:01:48. > :01:49.Now, the contract is valued at ?271 million, and it's
:01:50. > :01:51.essentially for the maintenance of the helicopters for
:01:52. > :02:02.But, actually, what was announced today was just the latest stage
:02:03. > :02:05.of a 30-year contract that was signed back in 2012,
:02:06. > :02:09.so critics argue that it's really recycling old news,
:02:10. > :02:11.and that, in any case, what this place really needs
:02:12. > :02:24.And yet, last year the Ministry of Defence decided not to let
:02:25. > :02:26.Leonardo build the new Apache attack helicopter, preferring
:02:27. > :02:30.All the aircraft in this production shed are here
:02:31. > :02:38.The company says it is talking to countries around the world.
:02:39. > :02:41.Not firm orders yet, but like any business such as ours,
:02:42. > :02:43.we know where the customer is, and we know what their
:02:44. > :02:50.And we're working very hard to land those orders this year.
:02:51. > :02:53.There remains a question mark over the equipment used to make
:02:54. > :02:55.the airframes for the Wildcat, amid suggestions that could be moved
:02:56. > :02:58.to a factory in Poland, even though the equipment
:02:59. > :03:03.is actually owned by the British Government.
:03:04. > :03:06.Paddy Ashdown, the former MP for Yeovil, says the Government has
:03:07. > :03:11.promised it will do everything it can to keep jobs in Britain
:03:12. > :03:13.in this post-Brexit era, and therefore should ensure jobs
:03:14. > :03:18.What Yeovil has done for 100 years has been
:03:19. > :03:22.an aircraft manufacturer and, by the way, some of the most
:03:23. > :03:24.world-beating aircraft for the service of our Armed Forces,
:03:25. > :03:26.and not just assembly and maintenance, but the design,
:03:27. > :03:28.the technology, the engineering, all of those high-class design
:03:29. > :03:31.teams, which Yeovil is now a centre of the year of the aerospace
:03:32. > :03:34.industry, will be damaged if Yeovil is allowed to dribble away
:03:35. > :03:41.and become just a maintenance and assembly area.
:03:42. > :03:44.The minister told no decision on the equipment used to make
:03:45. > :03:52.the Wildcat air frames had yet been made.
:03:53. > :03:55.A man has been charged with attempted murder after a crash

:06:53. > :06:58.means we are growing a new generation of young people

:07:12. > :07:16.with the expenditure for education, public health, all those things
:07:17. > :07:18.that we do, it's peanuts, it's a tiny amount of money,
:07:19. > :07:25.the majority of which we got from Central Government,
:07:26. > :07:27.because they recognise us as the only European green capital
:07:28. > :07:29.in this country - the way things are going,
:07:30. > :07:32.the only one we will ever have If you take the energy programme,
:07:33. > :07:40.we have developed a massive amount I managed to come back
:07:41. > :07:47.from the Paris climate summit, the UN climate summit,
:07:48. > :07:53.with a pledge across all the four political parties on the city
