:01:36. > :01:37.have to see breasts, which shouldn't be there.

:01:38. > :01:42.What age did you know you were in the wrong body?

:01:43. > :01:45.Nursery reception time, when I started noticing

:01:46. > :01:49.I liked playing with cars and trucks.

:01:50. > :01:56.In this school prom photo, at aged nine, Jade was the only girl

:01:57. > :02:03.I was teased a lot for looking different and...

:02:04. > :02:10.Secondary school, the bullying got a bit more physical and a

:02:11. > :02:17.That was one of your first days at nursery, that was.

:02:18. > :02:22.Jay had already tried to take his own life.

:02:23. > :02:24.I took us ages to get those photos of you,

:02:25. > :02:33.I found it quite hard, especially with the Jay

:02:34. > :02:38.With everybody else really getting on board quite quickly with Jay

:02:39. > :02:43.wanting to be known as Jay and he and him...

:02:44. > :02:47.I still, now and again, have a few slip-ups now and again.

:02:48. > :02:48.He registered for NHS hormone therapy treatment,

:02:49. > :02:54.It's an 18-month wait for an operation and he's still

:02:55. > :02:59.I feel like I'm in limbo, as it were.

:03:00. > :03:06.Frustrated by the wait, he's now taken to social media

:03:07. > :03:09.to try to crowdfund the money to go privately.

:03:10. > :03:15.Miles and females being treated on our West of England are referred

:03:16. > :03:19.to the Specialist Gender Identity Clinic in Exeter

:03:20. > :03:23.and according to the clinic, five years ago they have just

:03:24. > :03:31.It then takes 18 months for a patient to go

:03:32. > :03:37.from their first appointment to life-changing surgery.

:03:38. > :03:41.Steffi Barnett is a radio presenter in Bristol.

:03:42. > :03:44.You were four when you knew you were the wrong gender,

:03:45. > :03:59.What was that like? Quite scary, really. Once you start getting the

:04:00. > :04:03.bullying and the teacher fitted you into the mailbox, when you're four

:04:04. > :04:09.years old, you don't understand. I didn't know there was an issue. It

:04:10. > :04:15.the issue. You are playing in the the issue. You are playing in the

:04:16. > :04:21.house with the girls. The teacher says, now, you can't. You have to

:04:22. > :04:27.play with the boys. The girl CU have to be daddy, not mummy. They may get

:04:28. > :04:29.confused. Your head is wired completely differently to what

:04:30. > :04:35.are telling you. You transitioned are telling you. You transitioned

:04:36. > :04:42.out 50 years old. You please note that more young people are coming

:04:43. > :04:50.forward? Absolutely. The more people come forward and have support than

:04:51. > :04:53.the left suicide, mental must and self harm that we will have. A lot

:04:54. > :04:59.of people are saying that referrals of people are saying that referrals

:05:00. > :05:04.have gone up at a time when the NHS is under serious pressure. Cancer

:05:05. > :05:14.patients per morning the fact that people want to have a gender real

:05:15. > :05:20.information. What you have to think about is that a third of those kids

:05:21. > :05:24.will commit suicide, self harm or become depressed. Our those parents

:05:25. > :05:30.going to feel when their child commits suicide by sites health

:05:31. > :05:34.harming? All the needed support. One of the support organisations that

:05:35. > :05:38.covers the nation is therefore children who have gender dysphoria.

:05:39. > :05:47.Look like you tackle the subject in your radio show. What kind of advice

:05:48. > :05:54.are you getting? We get guests in to give advice. We pushed people out

:05:55. > :06:05.into these organisations. We do help by getting specialist guests in.

:06:06. > :06:10.It's on every Thursday on BDSM and five other stations. With five being

:06:11. > :06:15.like sensitising children? For me, just before I claimed the wall,

:06:16. > :06:16.there was a horrible moment, because you never know what's going to

:06:17. > :06:31.happen around the corner. My family and friends were very

:06:32. > :06:36.supportive. I used to be a bit of a loner and now my family and friends

:06:37. > :06:39.either for me and I do the job that I love that I'm a lucky one.

:06:40. > :06:42.The former England footballer Alan Shearer is the latest sporting

:07:45. > :07:46.But friends say messages from some of his idols are sure

:07:53. > :07:59.I think we often think our heroes or footballing legends, you know,

:08:00. > :08:02.you kind of put them on a pedestal, but for them to take the time

:08:03. > :08:08.and effort to send a message to Jamie means a huge amount to him

:08:09. > :08:16.Jamie is still in intensive care here at Southmead but he is awake

:08:17. > :08:18.and able to talk every now and again.

:08:19. > :08:20.I spoke to his girlfriend today, who understandably doesn't

:08:21. > :08:23.want to be in front of a camera at the moment.

:08:24. > :08:26.But she said both she and Jamie had been overwhelmed

:08:27. > :08:30.She said he's able to sit on the edge of his bed to do

:08:31. > :08:32.exercises and that doctors had started talking about skin

:08:33. > :08:39.She even said that on her last visit here, Jamie had managed to hug

:08:40. > :08:45.?67,000 has already been raised for Jamie but his friends and family

:08:46. > :08:48.want to make that 100,000, and eventually, to get him home to

:08:49. > :08:57.It seems some of his heroes feel the same.

:08:58. > :09:09.The Somerset explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes has been forced

:09:10. > :09:12.to abandon his attempt to climb one of the highest mountains

:09:13. > :09:18.He was in sight of the peak when he had to be airlifted from
