:00:18. > :00:23.Little Britain's Matt Lucas gets an honourary degree

:00:24. > :00:42.Thank you for inviting me here today. Congratulations to all of you

:00:43. > :00:43.with actual degrees. And the cloud will vary wildly tomorrow, but it

:00:44. > :00:48.will be dry and mild. Details later. An investigation has found that

:00:49. > :00:51.a university student accidentally created an explosive chemical used

:00:52. > :00:54.in terror attacks in an experiment Buildings were evacuated last week

:00:55. > :01:05.and a controlled explosion was carried out after the PhD

:01:06. > :01:08.student mistakenly produced It is a simple white

:01:09. > :01:12.powder that has become notorious for its use

:01:13. > :01:13.in The compound is both

:01:14. > :01:19.highly unstable and highly It was an experiment under

:01:20. > :01:26.controlled conditions that suddenly took

:01:27. > :01:28.a very serious turn, as a PhD student worked in the labs

:01:29. > :01:33.at Bristol University. They accidentally created a chemical

:01:34. > :01:35.favoured by terrorists and used Triacetone triperoxide

:01:36. > :01:43.is highly explosive. Known as TATP, it was

:01:44. > :01:46.in the bomb vests used in the terrorist attacks in Paris

:01:47. > :01:54.and was discovered by Belgian police after arresting suspects

:01:55. > :01:55.in Brussels too. Professor Sidney Alford

:01:56. > :02:03.is an expert in chemistry. The three substances necessary

:02:04. > :02:06.for the creation of TATP need to be I can't imagine what chemical

:02:07. > :02:09.was intended to be produced The university hasn't said

:02:10. > :02:27.what the experiment two weeks ago The student, they say,

:02:28. > :02:49.was following a set procedure and that a full risk assessment

:02:50. > :02:51.had been done first. No-one was injured,

:02:52. > :02:53.although buildings were A controlled explosion was later

:02:54. > :02:58.carried out to safely A man has been charged with murder

:02:59. > :03:07.tonight after a woman's body was found at house

:03:08. > :03:09.in Bristol on Monday. Karina Batista's body was discovered

:03:10. > :03:12.in Kensington Park in Easton. Jaici Alfenas Rocha,

:03:13. > :03:15.who's 36, has been charged with her murder and is due before

:03:16. > :03:17.Bristol Magistrates' A 36-year-old driver who killed

:03:18. > :03:27.a cyclist in Stroud as he tried to flee from the police has been

:03:28. > :03:30.jailed for than five years. Gloucester Crown Court heard

:03:31. > :03:32.Daryl Ackland had no insurance and was travelling at twice

:03:33. > :03:35.the speed limit when he hit 71-year-old Joe Marchant

:03:36. > :03:39.in October last year. He admitted causing death

:03:40. > :03:45.by dangerous driving. The inaugural meeting of a new group

:03:46. > :03:49.aimed at tackling the issue of wild boar in the Forest of Dean has

:03:50. > :03:52.agreed to try and bring all parties In recent years, wild

:03:53. > :03:55.boar damage has been on the increase and there

:03:56. > :03:56.have been claims that not enough

:03:57. > :03:58.is being done. Our Gloucestershire reporter

:03:59. > :04:13.Steve Knibbs has just Welcome and the meeting has just

:04:14. > :04:17.finished. By to say was seated an understatement. There were calls to

:04:18. > :04:22.call all of the boar, calls to -- calls calls to manage them, to use

:04:23. > :04:27.contraception, claims that the Forestry Commission and District

:04:28. > :04:30.Council and local MP were not doing enough and also claims the damage in

:04:31. > :04:35.the Forest of Dean is affecting tourism and people do want to come.

:04:36. > :04:41.A lot of taking. This is the chairman. A lot of big views from

:04:42. > :04:47.the public. Yes, but we expected it is. We knew this was happening. We

:04:48. > :04:50.knew people had different views. We said quite clearly that people had

:04:51. > :04:58.different ideas and we respected them. This was the first step,

:04:59. > :05:02.what's the next step? One thing that will happen from now is we will

:05:03. > :05:07.probably look to having a sit down meeting with the MP, the Forest of

:05:08. > :05:12.murderers and the Forestry Commission. Trying get every one of

:05:13. > :05:15.the same room. Seek legal advice to see what the standing is all the

:05:16. > :05:21.while boar and try and sit everyone down and get to the bottom of where

:05:22. > :05:23.we go forward. But at the moment, there is no coordinated approach to

:05:24. > :05:30.get something done. And that is what we are looking to do. Baby steps for

:05:31. > :05:34.now, and it was a bit difficult in places, but we will under no

:05:35. > :05:42.illusions when we started. Sounds like quite a challenge. A small step

:05:43. > :05:46.to light to finding a solution to the issues regarding the while boar

:05:47. > :05:50.in the Forest of Dean and as I said, we will follow at every step of the

:05:51. > :05:50.way and I think it will be a long running issue.

:05:51. > :05:55.Now there's a pool with a new name in Wiltshire tonight -

:05:56. > :05:59.Corsham's pool was re-named after its local paralympic swimming star.

:06:00. > :06:03.And tomorrow another honour awaits the champion as Stephanie

:06:04. > :06:10.Stephanie Millward was just ten years old when she started swimming

:06:11. > :06:13.She could never have dreamt that one day, she would be

:06:14. > :06:20.I've been coming here at six o'clock in the morning for years and years.

:06:21. > :06:23.And it's not Springfield's pool anymore, it's

:06:24. > :06:31.She's been honoured not just because of her huge

:06:32. > :06:34.Paralympic success, two golds at Rio last year,

:06:35. > :06:35.but also to recognise the

:06:36. > :06:41.That is because at age 17 and showing huge

:06:42. > :06:42.promise in the pool, Stephanie was diagnosed

:06:43. > :06:51.Doctors said she would probably never swim

:06:52. > :06:52.again and would end up in

:06:53. > :06:56.And boy, was she determined to prove them wrong.

:06:57. > :06:58.Now, nearly 25 years later, she's a Paralympic champion

:06:59. > :07:01.I thought, yeah, I've still got that dream and

:07:02. > :07:07.I didn't think that 18 years later I would still be here

:07:08. > :07:16.Today, it's Corsham for the renaming

:07:17. > :07:18.Tomorrow, it's Buckingham Palace to receive an MBE.

:07:19. > :07:20.And Corsham's Golden girl is enjoying

:07:21. > :07:33.Now, there were two very familiar faces among the students

:07:34. > :07:35.receiving their degrees from Bristol University today.

:07:36. > :07:36.Don Cameron, Founder of Bristol Balloon Fiesta

:07:37. > :07:39.and the man behind Cameron Balloons now has an honorary

:07:40. > :07:44.And comedian Matt Lucas was honored, too.

:07:45. > :07:47.The Little Britain star studied drama at the university until 1995,

:07:48. > :07:50.and found fame in Shooting Stars and for playing Vicky Pollard.

:07:51. > :07:52.Well, David Garmston spoke to Matt earlier about being made

:07:53. > :08:09.Comedian Matt Lucas, a master of dressing up,

:08:10. > :08:12.donned yet another costume to become a Doctor of Letters,

:08:13. > :08:13.from a university he left without a degree.

:08:14. > :08:19.I've been made a Doctor of Letters by the Bristol

:08:20. > :08:25.But I didn't know that you hadn't finished your course

:08:26. > :08:26.when you were here at Bristol University.

:08:27. > :08:28.No, I did two years at Bristol University

:08:29. > :08:34.and then I left in 1995, because during my second year

:08:35. > :08:37.I was filming Shooting Stars and it all sort of blew up,

:08:38. > :08:43.really, so I left with the intention of just taking one year off.

:08:44. > :08:48.I left with the intention of taking just one year off,

:08:49. > :08:59.No, but yeah, but no, because what happened was, right,

:09:00. > :09:00.something you don't know nothing about.

:09:01. > :09:03.Shut up, I wasn't even supposed to be anywhere even near there.

:09:04. > :09:06.I always think of Vicky Pollard, who's now become almost...

:09:07. > :09:14.Yeah, it's always a surprise to me, but even today, when there's a story

:09:15. > :09:17.about someone with an ASBO or something like that in the paper,

:09:18. > :09:20.then you will see a picture of Vicky Pollard next to them,

:09:21. > :09:30.And on the stage here today we had some professor,

:09:31. > :09:32.a very learned man, saying yeah but no but.

:09:33. > :09:58.That is it for us tonight. And leave you with the weather. .

:09:59. > :10:06.Tomorrow looks try once again. It will be a mild day and they will be

:10:07. > :10:11.tricky to gauge the cloud. A lot of cloud around, but some areas may

:10:12. > :10:15.have something brighter. We currently have some patchy rain

:10:16. > :10:21.about across northern parts of the region, including a few spots here

:10:22. > :10:26.in Bristol. That will die away if you -- through the first half of the

:10:27. > :10:31.night. There may just be a bit off tomorrow, certainly some areas of

:10:32. > :10:36.low cloud and then there's a question of what degree of

:10:37. > :10:41.brightness we see through central areas of the region, North South.

:10:42. > :10:45.Toward the West, cloud increases in the afternoon. That introduces

:10:46. > :10:51.patchy, light rain into the evening. Further eastwards, it will stay dry.

:10:52. > :10:55.The winds-macro will be the lights tomorrow. My old, lower double

:10:56. > :11:01.figures across the region, nine Celsius. It will continue to be mild

:11:02. > :11:02.into the weekend. Apart from a bit of rain,

:11:03. > :11:09.forthcoming weekend. Here is Nick Miller with a resume of the National

:11:10. > :11:13.weather picture. Hello, rain for some of us today

:11:14. > :11:17.although it won't make much of a dent in the dry winter so far across

:11:18. > :11:21.much of the UK. A few threatening clouds in Cumbria but more than a

:11:22. > :11:23.threat of rain across the pond for Friday. The
