:02:06. > :02:07.you can tell Jordan was a popular person.
:02:08. > :02:09.His mum described him as "The funniest, most loving young
:02:10. > :02:13.She said he loved life and lived it to the full.
:02:14. > :02:15.Jordan's brother, Damian, said they'll always be
:02:16. > :02:26.Now as we've been hearing on the national news,
:02:27. > :02:29.a former Royal Marine from Somerset jailed for shooting an injured
:02:30. > :02:31.Taliban fighter in Afghanistan, had his murder conviction
:02:32. > :02:37.Alexander Blackman is now awaiting a new sentence,
:02:38. > :02:39.after five judges agreed he was mentally impaired
:02:40. > :02:43.People on both sides of the argument gave
:02:44. > :02:52.I can understand how he did what he did, but I don't
:02:53. > :02:56.We have rules, we have to keep them, otherwise we are
:02:57. > :03:01.While he behaved in the most despicable way, what he was
:03:02. > :03:05.He was mentally ill when he did
:03:06. > :03:10.He had not been looked after by his chain of command and he had seen
:03:11. > :03:13.things that would have snapped the will and senses of anybody.
:03:14. > :03:15.And what he did was awful - truly, truly
:03:16. > :03:19.awful, but it was not murder, it was manslaughter.
:03:20. > :03:22.Well, earlier I spoke to John Davis, who led the drive to get Alexander
:03:23. > :03:30.I asked him why he started the campaign.
:03:31. > :03:33.I didn't know Al at all at the start of this,
:03:34. > :03:39.but nobody else was doing anything and one of the main parts
:03:40. > :03:44.of being a Royal Marine is to look out for each other and that is what
:03:45. > :03:46.keeps us alive on the battlefield and that is why
:03:47. > :03:51.You've got to know Alexander Blackman and have visited
:03:52. > :03:59.What kind of strain has this taken on him?
:04:00. > :04:02.Every time I have been to see him, he's
:04:03. > :04:05.always tried to be as normal as he can and it's really difficult,
:04:06. > :04:15.this has put immense pressure on him inside,
:04:16. > :04:21.knowing he shouldn't have been there
:04:22. > :04:25.in the first place and just trying to deal with it day by day,
:04:26. > :04:26.exactly like you would do on tour,
:04:27. > :04:30.you know, out on the battlefield, so it is an immense strain.
:04:31. > :04:35.A lot of people would say, she is under immense strain and of
:04:36. > :04:38.course she is, but she is a tremendous woman and I really don't
:04:39. > :04:47.know how she does it, how she keeps her strength, day in,
:04:48. > :04:51.day out, and she always puts other people first.
:04:52. > :04:55.So although the strain is there, she very, very rarely shows it.
:04:56. > :04:57.You have of public support, but also a lot of
:04:58. > :05:00.voices have not agreed with what you are trying to do.
:05:01. > :05:07.We get a lot of people who do not look at the ins and outs of the
:05:08. > :05:10.case and obviously, those comments are discarded, but a lot of people
:05:11. > :05:13.come out with very reasonable arguments and I think it is
:05:14. > :05:16.important we look at both sides of the arguments and be objective
:05:17. > :05:20.There are lessons to be learned from this?
:05:21. > :05:26.view, which are not for me to speak about, and we need to look at those
:05:27. > :05:29.from the well-being perspective of the men on the ground, the
:05:30. > :05:32.equipment, the manning and so forth, and also from the court martial side
:05:33. > :05:34.of things, where so many elements of that were
:05:35. > :05:39.highlighted to be flawed, in effect,
:05:40. > :05:42.and errors were made, so, I think a review of both would be
:05:43. > :05:54.And you can see a special edition of Panorama about Marine A in just
:05:55. > :06:00.Now it's been Ladies Day at Cheltenham Festival and that
:06:01. > :06:02.meant a huge occasion for one young jockey.
:06:03. > :06:04.Fittingly, Lizzie Kelly made her professional debut at the event.
:06:05. > :06:06.And she did well, finishing in fifth place.
:06:07. > :06:09.This Friday she becomes only the second woman ever to take
:06:10. > :06:18.Damian Derrick's been to the family yard to meet her.
:06:19. > :06:22.I wanted to dress like a male jockey, you know,
:06:23. > :06:24.with all the right gear, the proper riding out boots
:06:25. > :06:26.and the proper britches and everything.
:06:27. > :06:37.I had to do more to fit in and look the same as all the lads.
:06:38. > :06:39.Lizzie hasn't just fitted in, she's stood out,
:06:40. > :06:46.making her own piece of history along the way.
:06:47. > :06:51.A first ever grade one win for a female rider.
:06:52. > :06:54.That win at the highest level in jump racing 15 months ago
:06:55. > :07:02.The confidence side of that, you know, really was massive.
:07:03. > :07:05.It set in stone sort of where I was going,
:07:06. > :07:17.Being able to say, look, I've won a grade one to myself
:07:18. > :07:19.when things are, you know, a bit bleak.
:07:20. > :07:24.Despite her success, opportunities are limited for Lizzie.
:07:25. > :07:27.Many owners and trainers are still reluctant to expose women
:07:28. > :07:41.The majority of her rides come from the family, not that she is
:07:42. > :07:44.She is not given anything, she writes for us
:07:45. > :07:47.and we run a business and if we do not get success,
:07:48. > :07:50.we will not be here, so it is not a gift, she has
:07:51. > :07:53.And I feel very proud that somebody can be that dedicated
:07:54. > :07:57.And it is that sheer hard work that Lizzie
:07:58. > :08:01.And although long since used to being outnumbered
:08:02. > :08:03.in the weighing room, she does understand the significance
:08:04. > :08:11.of being the first female jockey in 33 years to ride in the Gold Cup.
:08:12. > :08:13.I think more than any other girl reference, I've really,
:08:14. > :08:18.Riding in the Gold Cup is massive because it's such an elite race,
:08:19. > :08:20.reserved for the best horses, the best trainers
:08:21. > :08:25.And in such illustrious company, Lizzie has already
:08:26. > :08:40.Now just one football result to give you tonight.
