:00:11. > :00:12.The cost of crossing the Severn Bridge and Second Severn

:00:13. > :00:16.Crossing has increased - it's now ?6.70 for cars.

:00:17. > :00:20.Both bridges are due to pass into public ownership soon,

:00:21. > :00:23.which could lead to a reduction in toll prices - something home

:00:24. > :00:29.buyers are responding to, as Catherine Powell reports.

:00:30. > :00:31.To commemorate the first crossing of the Severn Bridge,

:00:32. > :00:35.I have great pleasure in unveiling this plaque.

:00:36. > :00:40.The first bridge was opened by the Queen in 1966.

:00:41. > :00:43.But for people like these in Chepstow,

:00:44. > :00:45.who commute into the west, the annual price increase

:00:46. > :00:52.And my partner does, so we are playing ?13 a day

:00:53. > :00:56.I train over in Portishead a few nights a week.

:00:57. > :00:58.It becomes a struggle, getting back and forth,

:00:59. > :01:04.The Government has already said it could halve the fees to cross

:01:05. > :01:07.the bridges when they come back into public ownership -

:01:08. > :01:11.although drivers may have to pay both ways.

:01:12. > :01:14.Estate agents believe that could result in more people

:01:15. > :01:18.from the west looking for homes over the bridge.

:01:19. > :01:21.70 to 80% of all our buyers recently have been

:01:22. > :01:25.from over the bridge and, of course, that to bridge coming down in price,

:01:26. > :01:28.people are assuming they are going to be able to work over the bridge

:01:29. > :01:32.The Government is still considering plans to alter the way

:01:33. > :01:35.we pay to cross the bridges, and says it will confirm

:01:36. > :01:44.Now, Clevedon is a popular spot for a bit of cold water swimming -

:01:45. > :01:46.you might have seen some of the town's keenest on one

:01:47. > :01:52.Well, today, a group welcomed in the new year

:01:53. > :01:56.It's a tradition going back 30 years.

:01:57. > :02:01.But this year it was rather more low-key, as Martin Jones reports.

:02:02. > :02:09.But for three decades, a New Year's dip in Clevedon seawater has

:02:10. > :02:14.I fancied something completely different

:02:15. > :02:19.start the year afresh, so going to jump in and have a dip and

:02:20. > :02:24.This year, the event was smaller though,

:02:25. > :02:28.because organisers had pulled out, saying it had grown too big.

:02:29. > :02:31.I felt the liability was getting too much,

:02:32. > :02:34.too many people were coming and I just felt there were too many

:02:35. > :02:38.people who have been drinking overnight and going in the water

:02:39. > :02:43.I just didn't want that responsibility.

:02:44. > :02:53.it's a bracing start to the new year.

:02:54. > :03:00.But it gets rid of the hangover really

:03:01. > :03:12.And cold is a description everyone seemed to agree with.

:03:13. > :03:22.To rugby - Tom Varndell became the Premiership's joint-top

:03:23. > :03:25.try-scorer of all time to help Bristol overcome Sale for a second

:03:26. > :03:31.And Gloucester Rugby sit 9th after today's 12-13 defeat

:03:32. > :03:36.To football, a New Year goal-fest at The New Lawn,

:03:37. > :03:46.Keanu Marsh Brown and Christian Doidge both scored twice.

:03:47. > :03:49.And Somerset's defending darts champion Gary Anderson has just

:03:50. > :03:53.booked his place in tomorrow's PDC World Darts Championship final.

:03:54. > :03:56.Anderson, from Burnham on Sea, is seeking a record third

:03:57. > :04:00.He beat Peter Wright 6-3 earlier this evening

:04:01. > :04:12.Well, the bulk of the rain is clearing out towards the south now.

:04:13. > :04:14.It's still a bit damp towards the south coast.

:04:15. > :04:17.Further north, we have got largely dry conditions and clearing skies,

:04:18. > :04:21.so certainly rurally, we could a frost, but most

:04:22. > :04:24.so certainly rurally, we could see a frost, but most

:04:25. > :04:26.towns and cities, though, just that little bit above freezing,

:04:27. > :04:29.so it does mean a chilly start to the day tomorrow but a bright

:04:30. > :04:31.start and on the whole, a beautiful day.

:04:32. > :04:34.We should see a lot more sunshine tomorrow than we did this weekend.

:04:35. > :04:36.Dry, bright, light winds, but it's those temperatures

:04:37. > :04:39.that you will notice, they are going to be struggling

:04:40. > :04:42.a little bit so it is going to feel noticeably colder.

:04:43. > :04:45.And that says has upgraded for a very chilly start

:04:46. > :04:47.of the day on Tuesday, the Tuesday itself should

:04:48. > :04:51.Largely dry through most of next week but with more cloud

:04:52. > :04:59.And that's it, we'll say good night - a very happy new year to you.

:05:00. > :05:06.We will be back tomorrow. Happy New Year.

:05:07. > :05:15.For many, New Year's Day was a shocker with all of that rain

:05:16. > :05:19.around. Tomorrow will be sunny, but it is getting colder. This is rain

:05:20. > :05:24.clearing from the south-east. These specks of white as snow mixed in

:05:25. > :05:26.with showers across parts of northern England, particularly

:05:27. > :05:32.across Scotland, low levels here. I say that they hazard in northern and

:05:33. > :05:36.eastern areas. I would not rule out slippery areas almost anywhere by

:05:37. > :05:41.the morning, by which time temperatures will be close to or

:05:42. > :05:44.below freezing in many places. A bright and sunny start, but still

:05:45. > :05:48.wintry showers, sliding down the North Sea coast. Some snow down at

:05:49. > :05:52.quite low levels to the north of Scotland. Here, the snow will turn

:05:53. > :05:57.to rain. Something milder creeping in off the Atlantic as it clouds

:05:58. > :06:02.over. Further south, despite that sunshine, it will feel cold. 3-5 is

:06:03. > :06:06.the best I can offer you, briefly, through the afternoon. Then

:06:07. > :06:07.temperatures fall away like a stone. Through
