:01:23. > :01:28.Mundil Mahil's flat in Brighton. She has been convicted of GBH with
:01:28. > :01:30.intent. The two men who beat him, Harvinder Shoker and Darren Peters,
:01:30. > :01:36.have been found guilty of murder and manslaughter after they shut
:01:36. > :01:40.him in the boot of a car and set it on fire. Our reporter Fiona Irving
:01:40. > :01:46.is live at the Old Bailey. It has taken the jury two weeks to come to
:01:47. > :01:51.a decision, what was the reaction to their verdicts?
:01:51. > :01:54.There were very distressing scenes here in court today. Harvinda
:01:54. > :01:57.Shoker's family members broke down and had to be carried out of court
:01:57. > :02:00.when he was found guilty of murder. Mundill Mahill, the Brighton
:02:00. > :02:08.student from Chatham, remained calm and composed. She had set the honey
:02:08. > :02:13.trap which Gagandip Singh walked into.
:02:13. > :02:18.Gagandeep Singh just hours before he was murdered. Seen here on his
:02:18. > :02:23.way to Brighton, he stumped up by a teddy bear to give to medical
:02:23. > :02:27.student Mundil Mahil he was luring him into an attack. Harvinder
:02:27. > :02:32.Shoker and Kirat Raj Singh lay in wait at Mundil Mahil's house. They
:02:32. > :02:36.beat him unconscious and bundled him into the boot of the car.
:02:36. > :02:42.Harvinder Shoker poured petrol on him and set him alight. In a
:02:42. > :02:46.statement, Gagandeep Singh's family paid tribute to him. On a day-to-
:02:46. > :02:51.day basis there is a gap in our lives and a sense of loneliness.
:02:51. > :02:57.Gagandeep Singh was always a happy person trying to make us laugh. He
:02:57. > :03:02.was always positive and reassuring. The impact of the trial has been
:03:02. > :03:07.harder this week as this weekend marks one year's anniversary of his
:03:07. > :03:12.death. Mundil Mahil was a Brighton medical student. Cleared of his
:03:12. > :03:17.murder today, she was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.
:03:17. > :03:23.She had made the phone call that had matured into his death. Have
:03:23. > :03:28.you got anything to say? Have you got anything to say? Had it not
:03:28. > :03:30.been for the actions of Mundil Mahil, Gagandeep Singh would not
:03:30. > :03:35.have been murdered. He thought he was going down there to have a
:03:35. > :03:41.social evening the third, when she knew that Harvinder Shoker and
:03:41. > :03:45.Kirat Raj Singh were coming down to attack him. Darren Peters was found
:03:45. > :03:49.killed to of manslaughter. He had helped Harvinder Shoker carry out
:03:49. > :03:56.the attack. For the family of Gagandeep Singh, they said life has
:03:56. > :04:00.ground to a halt and one never be the same again.
:04:00. > :04:05.Mundil Mahil walked out of court today as she was granted bail.
:04:05. > :04:09.Today the judge said that a long prison sentence for all three is
:04:09. > :04:12.virtually inevitable. It was a plot hatched by some of
:04:12. > :04:22.Gagandip Singh's closest friends that led to his brutal murder.

:04:42. > :04:48.killed in the prime of his life. was such an up and coming sort of
:04:48. > :04:56.guy. He was wise way beyond his years. A real great leader in the
:04:56. > :05:03.making. I could see him doing a lot of things. Sometimes it feels like
:05:03. > :05:08.the whole thing is going to carry on, but the reality is she is no
:05:08. > :05:13.more. Gagandeep Singh was caught in a trap set by two of his closest
:05:13. > :05:17.friends, Mundil Mahil and Harvinder Shoker. Mundil Mahil tricked him
:05:17. > :05:23.into a meeting at to a student accommodation in Brighton where she
:05:23. > :05:27.knew he might be hurt, but once they're Harvinder Shoker and Darren
:05:27. > :05:32.Peters took it further, beating him unconscious. Afterwards, Gagandeep
:05:32. > :05:36.Singh was bundled into the boot of the car, wrapped in bed sheets.
:05:36. > :05:40.Still alive at this point he was driven to Blackheath in south-east
:05:40. > :05:46.London or petrol was poured on him and the car and then they were both
:05:46. > :05:52.ignited. Gagandeep Singh died from breeding in perfumes. We sold the
:05:52. > :05:59.car there. There was nothing left. The tree was on fire as well. Just
:05:59. > :06:04.trying to even picture that would give anybody nightmares. The
:06:04. > :06:08.pouring of petrol and putting him in the boot, nobody deserves to go
:06:08. > :06:13.like that, it doesn't matter who you are. But how did trusted
:06:13. > :06:18.friends become killers? With Harvinder Shoker, I was under the
:06:18. > :06:25.impression he was a very good friend of Gagandeep Singh. He
:06:25. > :06:29.seemed to look up to him. He helped him out on a few occasions. They
:06:29. > :06:34.seem to know each other from childhood, were very close. But
:06:34. > :06:41.Mundil Mahil had told Harvinder Shoker a painful secret, that
:06:41. > :06:47.Gagandeep Singh had tried to rate her at the previous summer.
:06:47. > :06:54.Gagandeep Singh suspected he was being set up. He centre text
:06:54. > :07:00.message saying, OK, I have had enough, what do you playing at?
:07:00. > :07:04.Later he asked, can we talk civil, or do you just want me dead?
:07:04. > :07:09.Despite his unease, Gagandeep Singh walked into the trap and ultimately
:07:09. > :07:13.to his death, leaving his friends and family bewildered hands
:07:13. > :07:19.horrified at the thought of his suffering. It is hard to believe in
:07:19. > :07:25.this day and age human beings can do such things. I don't like to
:07:25. > :07:28.think about his final moments. Nobody deserves a death like that.
:07:28. > :07:32.That was Gagandip Singh's friend Kirat Raj Singh ending our report

:08:04. > :08:12.Europeans are critical to his company's success. Our Business

:08:21. > :08:25.family back in Romania. He says he drives taxis here for a way to a

:08:37. > :08:41.His bosses say the 15 Europeans they have employed along more than
:08:41. > :08:46.30 English drivers have added to the company's professionalism.
:08:46. > :08:50.seems to be that the Romanian drivers have been quite hard-
:08:50. > :08:55.working and dedicated to what they do. They seem to spend a lot of
:08:55. > :08:59.time revising the roads as part of their training from the agency,
:08:59. > :09:03.that they learn a lot of stuff before they even get here. The
:09:03. > :09:07.professionalism of the drivers as great. In the 12 months to June
:09:07. > :09:13.last year there were almost 600,000 long-term immigrants to the UK.
:09:13. > :09:20.Unemployment rose by 48,000 to reach a peak of 2.6 million, while
:09:20. > :09:24.in Crawley, more than 2200 people are unemployed or claiming benefit.

:12:37. > :12:40.final efforts failed. This morning US Marshals met him at Heathrow and
:12:40. > :12:44.flew him to Texas to stand trial. If he is found guilty he could
:12:44. > :12:49.spend up to 35 years in prison. He had this parting shot for the Prime
:12:49. > :12:55.Minister. I looked to David Cameron and to look after my rights, and he
:12:56. > :13:00.has failed to do so. I have no rights. Abu Qatada is walking the
:13:01. > :13:05.streets of London today and we cannot extradite him. He has more
:13:05. > :13:10.rights than I have. If I was a terrorist, I wouldn't be going to
:13:10. > :13:12.America. I think it is a shame. It is a disgrace.
:13:12. > :13:18.Well, joining me now live from Houston, Texas, is Douglas McNabb,
:13:18. > :13:28.a federal criminal lawyer based there. Mr McNabb, what's waiting
:13:28. > :13:34.for Christopher Tappin there? will be escorted off the plane,
:13:34. > :13:37.handcuffed, chains around his waist and ankles. He will then be
:13:37. > :13:42.transported to the Federal detention centre in downtown
:13:42. > :13:47.Houston, about three blocks from where I am now. He will spend the
:13:47. > :13:52.weekend in that detention centre. On Monday he will be taken before a
:13:52. > :13:56.federal magistrate judge or a bond hearing. He will be able to call
:13:56. > :14:01.witnesses and his support. The government will be able to call
:14:01. > :14:04.witnesses and that their conclusion of that hearing the judge will make
:14:04. > :14:08.a determination as to whether he is either a flight risk or a danger to
:14:08. > :14:13.the community. If the court determines that he is either of
:14:13. > :14:18.those, the court will deny bonds and he will be jailed pending trial.
:14:18. > :14:25.On the other hand, if the court determines he is not those things,
:14:25. > :14:28.he will be released and some sort of bond. We have heard that he
:14:28. > :14:38.could face up to 35 years in prison, if found guilty, is that a
:14:38. > :14:42.
:14:42. > :14:47.realistic sentence? No, it is not. Count one carries five years, count
:14:47. > :14:51.to 10 years, and in the Third Kind it is a maximum of 20 years. The
:14:51. > :14:57.media has added the five, plus 10, plus 20 to come up with 35 years,
:14:57. > :15:01.but that is not likely. We have guidelines on top of that that
:15:01. > :15:07.would then make a determination as to what potential sentence he might
:15:07. > :15:12.receive. For example, he has two co-defendants. One was sentenced to
:15:12. > :15:16.24 months in prison. A second co- defendant was sentenced to 22
:15:16. > :15:21.months in prison. To be fair, Christopher Tappin is facing a
:15:21. > :15:31.charge that the other two are not. He is facing money-laundering,
:15:31. > :15:38.
:15:38. > :15:42.which carries a potential penalty of up to 20 years.
:15:42. > :15:45.A huge fire that destroyed a Kent DIY store is tonight being treated
:15:45. > :15:47.as arson. Emergency crews worked through the night to put out the
:15:47. > :15:50.flames in Gravesend. Neighbouring buildings were evacuated for four
:15:50. > :15:52.hours and 60 people were led to safety. Bryony MacKenzie has the

:18:57. > :19:00.something positive out of this. We would be delighted if we could feel
:19:00. > :19:08.that the people cycling to and from university were safe and this could
:19:08. > :19:12.not happen again. Jo Walter was driving on this -- was cycling on
:19:12. > :19:17.this path when she had to swerve to avoid another cyclist and she was
:19:17. > :19:23.hit by an ban. This is all part of a master plan to create safer ways
:19:23. > :19:27.for cyclists to get around the city. We have been heartened by the
:19:27. > :19:31.response from the City Council who had taken this as a constructive
:19:31. > :19:36.input. We are very much working with them. It is very probable that
:19:36. > :19:41.what we are suggesting will happen. Cycle safety is not just a local
:19:41. > :19:46.issue and yesterday it was debated in Parliament. It is good for their
:19:46. > :19:51.economy and the environment. We have a responsibility to make it as
:19:51. > :20:01.safe as possible and encourage it. Two local cyclists feel safe?
:20:01. > :20:02.
:20:02. > :20:09.Drivers are not that considerate towards cyclists. When you go on a
:20:09. > :20:13.bike you take your chances. We are not quite Amsterdam yet, are we?
:20:13. > :20:17.But at Neverland style cycle network is exactly what the family

:20:56. > :20:59.been a big increase in the number of exotic pets they are caring for
:20:59. > :21:01.at their specialist centre in Patcham, in East Sussex. They
:21:01. > :21:04.include poisonous snakes, giant lizards, and two crocodiles
:21:04. > :21:09.discovered by police in a bedroom. Nationally, it is estimated that
:21:09. > :21:13.900,000 reptiles were kept as pets last year. There were over 8,500
:21:13. > :21:15.calls about exotic pets to the charity's emergency cruelty line.
:21:15. > :21:25.There were 427 incidents involving bearded dragons, a 1,700% increase
:21:25. > :21:30.

:22:16. > :22:19.disturbed it will give you a nasty bite. The bearded dragon will only
:22:19. > :22:24.attack that it is hungry. It is particularly aggressive during the
:22:24. > :22:31.mating season. What do I need to know before buying an exotic pet?
:22:31. > :22:36.Don't buy it on a whim. Go away and do your research. Many of these
:22:36. > :22:43.animals had been imported where there are no war fewer restrictions.
:22:43. > :22:48.This man is a debt research and he has 40 animals at home. He says
:22:48. > :22:53.people just don't understand what they are taking on. We are keeping
:22:53. > :22:56.them completely out of there, Britain and owners have to play God
