:00:00. > 3:59:59on the BBC News Channel, and I'll be back with the late news at ten. Now

:00:00. > :00:18.on BBC One, the news where you are. Good evening.

:00:19. > :00:23.The MP for Dartford has welcomed at plans to build a garden city in

:00:24. > :00:28.Ebbsfleet. George Osborne has announced 150,000 plans will be

:00:29. > :00:33.built on homes earmarked for more than a decade.

:00:34. > :00:37.This is Ebbsfleet Valley and eastern quarry, where the government want to

:00:38. > :00:51.build the UK's first garden city for 100 years. There is the land

:00:52. > :00:54.available, there is fantastic infrastructure, a high-speed line,

:00:55. > :00:57.it is on the river. It is in the south-east of England, where a lot

:00:58. > :01:00.of housing pressure has been. And, crucially, you have got local

:01:01. > :01:03.communities and local MPs who support the idea. But not everything

:01:04. > :01:05.is rosy in the garden city plan Despite planning permission, no

:01:06. > :01:08.homes have been built. The government tried incentive schemes

:01:09. > :01:11.to get them built by last Christmas, but without any progress. What is

:01:12. > :01:14.different this time is there is going to be anything up to ?200

:01:15. > :01:16.billion of investment in the area on infrastructure, which will give

:01:17. > :01:20.families the assurance that they need when they are buying a new home

:01:21. > :01:23.that there will be extra school places, there will be medical

:01:24. > :01:29.provision, there will be the transport links people need when

:01:30. > :01:32.buying a home. Politicians hope it will build on the benefit of

:01:33. > :01:34.high-speed rail, the potential of the planned theme park at

:01:35. > :01:37.Swanscombe, and the goodwill of local people. I think Ebbsfleet

:01:38. > :01:41.needs something like that. Apart from that it has been a hole in the

:01:42. > :01:45.ground, a quarry for ages. People need homes, and at the same time,

:01:46. > :01:48.there is a lot of congestion in that area. I think it is a fantastic

:01:49. > :01:52.idea, especially for those trying to get on the property ladder. The

:01:53. > :01:54.government planned to create a development corporation to see

:01:55. > :01:56.through the project, believing Ebbsfleet will be a catalyst to

:01:57. > :02:06.other development projects in the south-east.

:02:07. > :02:12.We can cross to Ebbsfleet. Will the plans become a reality? Big

:02:13. > :02:16.question. Two things will help. The creation of the development

:02:17. > :02:22.corporation will bring everyone under one roof and also, the

:02:23. > :02:26.encouragement to buy new homes. The problem is persuading developers to

:02:27. > :02:29.build houses. The government want them to boost the economy. The

:02:30. > :02:32.developers do not want to build until the economy is back on its

:02:33. > :02:37.feet and they can make a healthy profit. It is about squaring the

:02:38. > :02:42.circle and encouraging people to build, especially the 6000 but could

:02:43. > :02:46.be built here in Ebbsfleet. A former Home Office Minister has

:02:47. > :02:52.called for the controversial March For England to be banned from

:02:53. > :02:58.writing next month. The organisers say they are an English pressure

:02:59. > :03:01.group. It usually attracts counter protests and last year 19 people

:03:02. > :03:06.were arrested. Businesses want it moved away from the seafront but

:03:07. > :03:09.some say it should not take place at all. It is bad for business and not

:03:10. > :03:16.good for the reputation of the city. Although I believe in protecting

:03:17. > :03:19.people, it does not give voice to much of significance.

:03:20. > :03:24.Britain's youngest competitor in the games, Millie Knight, has missed out

:03:25. > :03:27.on a medal place in Sochi. The 15-year-old from Canterbury competed

:03:28. > :03:32.in the super-G and came in fifth place. Kelly Gallagher and her

:03:33. > :03:37.guide, Charlotte Evans, crash died during their first run at the giant

:03:38. > :03:41.slalom. -- crashed out. All four of our league teams were in

:03:42. > :03:49.action. There was a disappointing time for the new manager. At Bolton

:03:50. > :03:55.this weekend, Brighton continued to strive for a chance to reach the

:03:56. > :04:05.play-offs. There was a goal in the first half. The only one to reach

:04:06. > :04:09.its title was offside. Brighton are within a point of a play-off spot,

:04:10. > :04:16.but could automatic promotion be in their sights? The boss at Charlton

:04:17. > :04:20.might have been hoping for a more decisive start to his new job. The

:04:21. > :04:24.trip to Millwall resulted in a couple of chances but no goals. Goal

:04:25. > :04:29.difference means they have moved off the bottom of the championship. You

:04:30. > :04:34.have to think it is maybe only one point at the moment, plus another,

:04:35. > :04:38.but two points, and then three, it can make the difference. In League

:04:39. > :04:42.One, gelling's visit to Bradford started badly with an early goal for

:04:43. > :04:46.the home side. Despite struggling through the first half, after the

:04:47. > :04:51.break they managed to score and were happy to come away with a point

:04:52. > :04:56.Crawley Town is my chances in the play-offs may be slim but Mike

:04:57. > :05:03.Jones's goal against Colchester means the hopes are still alive

:05:04. > :05:05.It has been another beautiful day but the weather will not last. Here

:05:06. > :05:13.is the forecast. It has been glorious across the

:05:14. > :05:17.south-east. It has been a glorious weekend with lots of blue sky and

:05:18. > :05:22.sunshine. It remains dry overnight. We will notice an increase of cloud.

:05:23. > :05:29.Broken cloud as we head through Most of us will get some brighter

:05:30. > :05:33.spells. The wind brighter tomorrow. The afternoon we should see breaks

:05:34. > :05:37.in the cloud, so Sunny spells with the temperature up to around 13

:05:38. > :05:43.Celsius. A little cooler than we had today. Through next week, we are

:05:44. > :05:48.chasing the around. It is windy as we head through. There will be some

:05:49. > :05:52.breaks, so sunny spells into Thursday. That is where it turns

:05:53. > :05:56.more unsettled. It is possible we will see some rain.

:05:57. > :05:58.We will be back with another update after the national news at ten

:05:59. > :06:13.Good evening. Apologies for sounding Southeast centric, but it is

:06:14. > :06:17.difficult when London had a high of 20 this afternoon, 68 Fahrenheit.

:06:18. > :06:18.Lovely sunshine across England, Wales and eastern
