:00:00. > 3:59:59That's it for now. We're back with the late news at 10. 15pm. Now it's

:00:00. > :00:09.Good evening. The UKIP Leader and time for the news

:00:10. > :00:12.Good evening. The UKIP Leader and South East MEP Nigel Farage has

:00:13. > :00:16.defended comments he made yesterday, in which he said people had a right

:00:17. > :00:19.to be concerned if Romanians moved in next door to them. He was

:00:20. > :00:26.criticised for the comments whilst taking part in a BBC local radio

:00:27. > :00:29.debate. Nigel Farage arrived in Dover amid

:00:30. > :00:32.fresh accusations of racism, provoked by an early appearance on

:00:33. > :00:35.radio in which he was asked about the difference between German and

:00:36. > :00:40.Romanian migrants. During the debate he was criticised for those

:00:41. > :00:45.comments.. If a group of men moved in next door, whereever they came

:00:46. > :00:49.from. You would have a concern, and if you lived in London you would be

:00:50. > :00:52.worried, is this part of the criminal trafficking operation which

:00:53. > :00:56.we know is now happening in London on a large scale, taking advantage

:00:57. > :00:59.of people who find themselves living in a country that frankly isn't

:01:00. > :01:06.civilised and with whom we should not be in a political union? The

:01:07. > :01:10.subject of immigration took up much of the debate. The Conservative MEP

:01:11. > :01:15.Daniel Hannon said he wanted to stop EU migrants claiming benefits. We

:01:16. > :01:18.can't have a system where 60 million British people are filling the pot

:01:19. > :01:24.and 500 million EU nationals can draw it out. How long should it be

:01:25. > :01:29.before people should claim benefits after coming to the country? Three

:01:30. > :01:32.or four years. It is ridiculous, because you will have people who

:01:33. > :01:36.will then be on the streets and driven into crime if you have not

:01:37. > :01:44.that safety net which is what the benefit system, and I know about it.

:01:45. > :01:50.It's designed as a safety net to help. And the sooner you intervene

:01:51. > :01:53.the sooner people are back to work. Of the five candidates taking part,

:01:54. > :01:57.four are seasoned MEPs seeking re`election. The scapegoat of

:01:58. > :02:11.migration is being carried out all the time. It is not because there

:02:12. > :02:20.are too many migrants. It is a housing crisis. They all so

:02:21. > :02:24.discussed fracking, fishing and airport expansion in the South East,

:02:25. > :02:27.but with five days until the polling ceremony the controversial issue of

:02:28. > :02:31.immigration was at the forefront. And you can hear that debate

:02:32. > :02:38.tomorrow on BBC Radio Kent, BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey.

:02:39. > :02:41.Meanwhile, the Labour leader has been in Crawley campaigning for his

:02:42. > :02:44.party in next week's local and European elections. Ed Miliband

:02:45. > :02:47.walked around the town centre and spoke to local traders. Labour's

:02:48. > :02:50.hoping to regain control of the Borough Council there next week.

:02:51. > :02:52.Speaking at a rally, Mr Miliband promised to build more homes in the

:02:53. > :02:55.South East. It's a massive issue here in

:02:56. > :02:59.Crawley. It's a massive issue right across the region. It is Labour

:03:00. > :03:02.saying we are going to build more homes and make sure they are

:03:03. > :03:06.affordable. All part of tackling what I think is the biggest issue

:03:07. > :03:10.our country is facing, which is the cost of living crisis and the fact

:03:11. > :03:13.that so many people feel they can't get on in Britain anymore. And a

:03:14. > :03:16.reminder there's in`depth coverage of all the main parties' campaigns,

:03:17. > :03:18.plus information about all the other parties standing for election on our

:03:19. > :03:22.website ` bbc.co.uk/news. A Kent man has drowned after

:03:23. > :03:25.swimming out to sea to rescue one of his sons while on a family holiday

:03:26. > :03:28.in Jamaica. 49`year`old Tony Wilkinson was caught in a strong

:03:29. > :03:32.current in Calabash Bay on Jamaica's south coast on Thursday. Despite

:03:33. > :03:34.efforts to help he couldn't make it back to the shore.

:03:35. > :03:38.The new leader of Thanet District Council has confirmed she will be

:03:39. > :03:41.holding talks this weekend with the owner of Manston Airport. Staff left

:03:42. > :03:44.the airport for the last time on Thursday. Councillor Iris Johnston

:03:45. > :03:47.says Ann Gloag has promised to speak to her about the airport's future.

:03:48. > :03:49.Let's get the weather forecast now with Georgina. Good evening.

:03:50. > :03:51.Let's get the weather forecast now with Georgina. Good Well, if it

:03:52. > :03:55.wasn't sunny enough for you today hopefully tomorrow will please you

:03:56. > :03:58.better. Tonight we have a warm night to come. It'll be largely dry as

:03:59. > :04:02.well. Some clouds around but we should have some clear spells too.

:04:03. > :04:05.Not much of a breeze to talk about and temperatures not dropping below

:04:06. > :04:09.double figures for most of us with lows of ten or 11 degrees Celsius.

:04:10. > :04:12.Tomorrow we should wake up to more sunshine, more in the way with some

:04:13. > :04:16.spots with wall`to`wall sunshine. There is still some cloud as well

:04:17. > :04:18.with temperatures reaching 21 or 22 degrees Celsius, although cooler

:04:19. > :04:28.along the south coast. It'll only get to about 18 Celsius but tomorrow

:04:29. > :04:31.is much sunnier than today. It all goes downhill somewhat as we head

:04:32. > :04:38.into the beginning of next week, so Monday is slightly unsettled. There

:04:39. > :04:43.is an outside chance you could have a shower here or there. There will

:04:44. > :04:46.certainly be more in the way of cloud, and as you can see it is

:04:47. > :04:50.steadily becoming more unsettled as we go through the week and the winds

:04:51. > :04:56.start to pick up too, so do enjoy the sunshine tomorrow if you get the

:04:57. > :05:02.chance. That it is from us. Have a good

:05:03. > :05:15.night. Good evening. Who needs an expensive

:05:16. > :05:21.holiday? Today at 24 degrees, Suffolk was warmer than Ibiza and

:05:22. > :05:24.Crete. There was lots of warm sunshine to be found across England

:05:25. > :05:28.and Wales. Of course, that hasn't been the story everywhere. Cooler

:05:29. > :05:30.and cloudier and much wetter weather across Scotland and Northern

:05:31. > :05:34.Ireland. More rain for western Scotland and the Northern Isles

:05:35. > :05:37.tonight. Rain spreading further into Northern Ireland too. Some of it

:05:38. > :05:43.will be heavy at times. Elsewhere, a dry night and warm. Lows of 13 or 14

:05:44. > :05:46.degrees. More rain to come, though, for both the North West of Scotland

:05:47. > :05:50.and Northern Ireland on Sunday. Hopefully, it will ease off a little

:05:51. > :05:51.across western Scotland later in
