:00:00. > :00:11.Good evening. One it's time for the news

:00:12. > :00:14.Good evening. Two men in Brazil will stand trial

:00:15. > :00:18.for the manslaughter of a woman from Kent. Gillian Metcalf was killed in

:00:19. > :00:21.a boat collision in South America last year. Her family has been

:00:22. > :00:22.urging the authorities there to prosecute those responsible, as Ian

:00:23. > :00:25.Palmer reports. Since his wife's death last

:00:26. > :00:29.September, Charlie Metcalf has been trying to get those responsible to

:00:30. > :00:35.be tried in court. This week, the authorities in Brazil confirmed this

:00:36. > :00:40.will happen. Well, we never stopped believing it would happen. But when

:00:41. > :00:45.it did happen, it came as a shock. Because they crumbled so suddenly.

:00:46. > :00:48.From telling us it could be months before even a decision is made

:00:49. > :00:54.about, would there be a prosecution who would be prosecuted. Gillian

:00:55. > :01:12.Metcalf was a mother of two daughters. A lawyer, she went to

:01:13. > :01:15.Brazil to celebrate her 50th birthday with her family. During a

:01:16. > :01:18.boat trip on the blackwater in Manaus, there was a collision. Mrs

:01:19. > :01:21.Metcalf suffered fatal injuries. Witnesses described a game of

:01:22. > :01:37.chicken between the captains of both vessels. In an interview for

:01:38. > :01:40.Brazilian televison, one of the pilots said he acted responsibly.

:01:41. > :01:42.The story has topped news bulletins in Brazil. Newspapers have

:01:43. > :01:45.highlighted every twist and turn. Some journalists in South America

:01:46. > :01:48.say, because the country is hosting the World Cup next month, the

:01:49. > :01:52.authorities have been forced to act quickly. They have a task. And that

:01:53. > :01:56.task is to see justice done. That gives us something to busy ourselves

:01:57. > :02:00.with. And I've got my two daughters, so we have stayed strong as a unit

:02:01. > :02:02.and we're focused on getting this done.

:02:03. > :02:06.The owner of Manston Airport is expected to hold a meeting in ten

:02:07. > :02:09.days' time with people who want to re`open it, BBC South East Today has

:02:10. > :02:12.learned. The new leader of Thanet District Council says she had a

:02:13. > :02:20."positive" telephone conversation with Ann Gloag this afternoon. The

:02:21. > :02:23.airport closed on Thursday. Firefighters have been battling a

:02:24. > :02:26.blaze involving 100 tonnes of rubbish on an industrial estate in

:02:27. > :02:29.Aylesford today. They were called to New Hythe Lane in Larkfield at

:02:30. > :02:33.11:15am this morning. Crews have been at the scene for most of the

:02:34. > :02:37.day trying to prevent it from spreading.

:02:38. > :02:40.The Home Office has denied claims that several vehicles a day pass

:02:41. > :02:43.through border controls carrying children who may be victims of

:02:44. > :02:45.trafficking. The claims were made by a UKIP MEP candidate on the Sunday

:02:46. > :02:49.Politics. A UK border official told me this

:02:50. > :02:53.week that there is nine or ten coach loads a day coming through. They

:02:54. > :02:56.have got 12 to 30 minibus fulls and there is a load of children in

:02:57. > :03:00.there. And those children's surnames do not match up with the people who

:03:01. > :03:02.are actually in there. So, I am really concerned about people

:03:03. > :03:05.trafficking. And a reminder there's in`depth

:03:06. > :03:07.coverage of all the main parties' campaigns, plus information about

:03:08. > :03:09.all the other parties standing for election on our website,

:03:10. > :03:11.bbc.co.uk/news tonight the Home Office said border officials are

:03:12. > :03:20.trained to protect immigrants and check there is no wafer immigrants

:03:21. > :03:23.to come in. Police have described the theft of a

:03:24. > :03:26.bronze statue from a children's memorial garden as "despicable". The

:03:27. > :03:30.?10,000 statue was taken from the Kent and Sussex Crematorium. It was

:03:31. > :03:32.originally commissioned by a local charity, who support women after

:03:33. > :03:36.stillbirths. Now, Kent Police are making a fresh appeal for anyone

:03:37. > :03:39.with information to "do the right thing". Victoria Holland reports.

:03:40. > :03:43.A garden full of memories. When Louise Ellis gave birth to her

:03:44. > :03:47.daughter, nearly 18 years ago, she knew that she had already died. It

:03:48. > :03:49.was one of the hardest days of my life, I have to say, bittersweet

:03:50. > :03:52.memories. She was beautiful, absolutely beautiful, perfect in

:03:53. > :03:56.every way. Louise was supported by a local charity, Sands, they raised

:03:57. > :04:00.money to create a memorial garden in the Kent and Sussex Crematorium. But

:04:01. > :04:05.two weeks ago, the centrepiece, this bronze statue of two children

:04:06. > :04:08.dancing, was stolen. It has either been taken for its artistic value,

:04:09. > :04:13.which is very costly for the charity to have had commissioned. However,

:04:14. > :04:16.it is more likely that it has been taken for its value as metal, which

:04:17. > :04:21.will be considerably less than what the charity paid. It is understood

:04:22. > :04:25.that the statue was taken sometime between the first and fourth May. It

:04:26. > :04:30.used to stand on this round plinth. Now, all that is left is the holes

:04:31. > :04:34.from where it was ripped out. It's so sad that it's been stolen. It's

:04:35. > :04:38.such a special place and the theives that have stolen it must know that,

:04:39. > :04:41.they must know how special it is to us and to all the other bereaved

:04:42. > :04:45.parents that are local to Tunbridge Wells. Kent police are urging anyone

:04:46. > :04:49.with information to get in touch. For the parents who rely on this

:04:50. > :04:50.garden, the statue may be gone, but like their children, it's not

:04:51. > :05:02.forgotten. Good evening. Today was the warmest

:05:03. > :05:06.day of the year so far in the South and East of England. In fact, as we

:05:07. > :05:09.go through the next couple of days, it will still be quite warm and

:05:10. > :05:13.mainly dry for tomorrow. Certainly not a cold start. The temperature

:05:14. > :05:16.starts well in double figures in most towns. There are some good

:05:17. > :05:20.spells of sunshine as well and most of the day will be dry. There will

:05:21. > :05:23.be some fair weather cloud, always a bit colder towards the coast, but

:05:24. > :05:26.inland, like today, temperatures well are into the 20s Celsius.

:05:27. > :05:30.Possibly 24 degrees, the top temperature, 75 Fahrenheit. Mostly

:05:31. > :05:33.dry, later in the evening, just coming in from the near continent, a

:05:34. > :05:37.couple of showers to drift in potentially towards us. They could

:05:38. > :05:40.be thundery, but most of us will avoid them altogether. From Tuesday

:05:41. > :05:44.onwards, it will be more unsettled and cooler. Temperatures still

:05:45. > :05:51.respectable for this time of year. There will be sunshine, too.

:05:52. > :06:09.We will be back after the national news at 10:20pm. Goodbye.

:06:10. > :06:16.St James Park and Sheffield both hit 25 Celsius this afternoon. That

:06:17. > :06:20.gives us our warmest day in nearly nine months, since 5th September

:06:21. > :06:24.2013. It goes without saying that it is going to be a warm night. Look

:06:25. > :06:28.out for some showers clipping into eastern Scotland. Some of those

:06:29. > :06:32.could be heavy. Still some patchy rain for western Scotland. More

:06:33. > :06:36.persistent rain returning to Northern Ireland by the end of the

:06:37. > :06:41.night. Showers across Mid and North Wales. Temperatures no lower than 13

:06:42. > :06:45.degrees. We start Monday on a much more positive footing across western

:06:46. > :06:48.Scotland. Much drier than it has been through the weekend. Showers in

:06:49. > :06:51.the North East. Showers around for Northern Ireland. Brighter spells

:06:52. > :06:55.possible, too. Showers during the first part of the day for North

:06:56. > :06:58.Wales. One or two briefly glancing across the North West of England and
