:00:14. > :00:17.Good evening. UKIP is in with a good a chance of

:00:18. > :00:20.winning the Thanet South seat at next year's General Election,

:00:21. > :00:22.according to a major poll by a senior Conservative politician. The

:00:23. > :00:25.current Tory MP Laura Sandys is standing down and UKIP's leader

:00:26. > :00:30.Nigel Farage is believed to be considering standing for election

:00:31. > :00:32.there. Today Lord Ashcroft published the results of a poll he

:00:33. > :00:35.commissioned into voting intentions which suggested that the

:00:36. > :00:44.Conservatives, Labour and UKIP are within four points of each other.

:00:45. > :00:48.A woman from Kent who underwent "sun therapy" as a child is warning

:00:49. > :00:51.others who received the treatment to be vigilant after she developed skin

:00:52. > :00:53.cancer. Born prematurely and prone to infections, Joan East from

:00:54. > :00:59.Bearsted near Maidstone was regularly exposed to UV lamps in the

:01:00. > :01:04.1940s. A home in rural Kent and a love of

:01:05. > :01:07.the great outdoors, but Joan East is extra careful these days about

:01:08. > :01:11.exposing her skin to the sun. Last year she was diagnosed with skin

:01:12. > :01:15.cancer. I had a strange spot appear on my forehead, when the top came

:01:16. > :01:19.off, it started to bleed. This happened several times and it left a

:01:20. > :01:22.little hollow crater each time. Pre`antibiotics, sun therapy was

:01:23. > :01:25.very popular in the early 1900s, especially for young children to

:01:26. > :01:28.treat a variety of conditions. They were placed in front of ultraviolet

:01:29. > :01:38.lamps for increasing durations and the treatment could go on for

:01:39. > :01:42.several years. We were given goggles to wear, which I remember were green

:01:43. > :01:46.glass and bathed everything in this green light and we walked around

:01:47. > :02:01.this centre island so that all sides of our body of the skin where

:02:02. > :02:04.exposed. Although there is no proven link between sun therapy and cancer,

:02:05. > :02:08.it is well established that ultraviolet light from sunbeds and

:02:09. > :02:11.the sun can lead to the disease. They usually like whether that is

:02:12. > :02:16.from the sun or the sunbeds can damage the structure of our skin

:02:17. > :02:21.which can lead to skin cancer and that damage can build up over time.

:02:22. > :02:25.After an operation, Joan East has been given the all clear. She is

:02:26. > :02:29.warning others however to check for any changes to the skin after such

:02:30. > :02:33.intense UV exposure as a child. Chagos Islanders who settled in West

:02:34. > :02:36.Sussex have met in Crawley this afternoon to discuss a government

:02:37. > :02:39.feasibility report set up to look at the issue of allowing them to return

:02:40. > :02:43.home. They have been fighting a legal battle for years, after the UK

:02:44. > :02:47.Government evicted them to make way for a military base in the 1960s.

:02:48. > :02:55.The report is expected to be published next year. Today we are

:02:56. > :03:01.trying to get our community to talk about it and if we had to go back,

:03:02. > :03:09.we would have to settle there, what we want to see happening to us,

:03:10. > :03:12.topics like that. A quadriplegic woman from Eastbourne

:03:13. > :03:15.who mistakenly ran up a ?400 bill on a popular computer game has had her

:03:16. > :03:18.money refunded. Anna McNaughton accepts she did enter her bank

:03:19. > :03:22.details, but told BBC South East Today she thought it was a one`off

:03:23. > :03:26.payment. King dot com ` the company that makes the Candy Crush game `

:03:27. > :03:32.had originally refused to pay the money back, but yesterday agreed to

:03:33. > :03:36.return it as a gesture of goodwill. Thousands of motor sport fans have

:03:37. > :03:39.been at Kent racing circuit Lydden Hill today for the first ever round

:03:40. > :03:43.of the World Rallycross Championship to be staged in the UK. The sport

:03:44. > :03:46.began at Lydden back in the 1960s, but is enjoying a surge of

:03:47. > :03:50.popularity and is now attracting some of the world's top drivers. I

:03:51. > :03:56.have been coming here from the age of ten. It is a magnificent day out.

:03:57. > :04:02.We have been coming to rallycross for years and it is getting better I

:04:03. > :04:11.gain. The races are short and it is good racing. Time for the weather.

:04:12. > :04:18.After a wet day to day, we have a better one tomorrow. We are not out

:04:19. > :04:23.of the woods yet, however, some more rain to come this evening. Tomorrow

:04:24. > :04:29.morning it will be much drier but temperatures around nine or 10

:04:30. > :04:34.Celsius. Some clouds to begin with but a lot more sunshine. Just the

:04:35. > :04:41.odd shower here and there. For many of us it will be a dry day. Top

:04:42. > :04:47.temperatures of 16 Celsius. Some lucky areas may get up to 18

:04:48. > :04:53.degrees. For Monday, a bit of the next bag. Some sunny intervals and

:04:54. > :04:58.bands of showers, if you get caught underneath one you will know about!

:04:59. > :04:59.A changeable week ahead. Join us again on BBC One tomorrow evening.

:05:00. > :05:18.Good night. The heavens opened for some of us

:05:19. > :05:24.today. As far as tomorrow is concerned, more of the same. We have

:05:25. > :05:30.a mixture of whether on the way, showers, sunshine. When the sun is

:05:31. > :05:35.out, it will feel warm. The sun is very strong at this time of the

:05:36. > :05:41.year. This is the cloud that brought the deluge in the South this

:05:42. > :05:42.morning. Now the cloud has transferred further across western

:05:43. > :05:43.areas of the
