:01:09. > :01:12.the Channel to England ` are to be destroyed in the next few days.
:01:13. > :01:14.Following a recent outbreak of scabies in the camps,
:01:15. > :01:18.the authorities say they now pose a public health risk.
:01:19. > :01:22.It comes just two months after BBC South East filmed migrants risking
:01:23. > :01:27.their lives trying to stowaway on lorries heading for Dover.
:01:28. > :01:42.It is. There are currently around 800 illegal immigrants sleeping
:01:43. > :01:46.rough here in Calais. The deadline for them to leave camps like this
:01:47. > :01:52.one has now passed but most have decided to stay. We have seen police
:01:53. > :01:55.circling all day around the camp, looking at the task ahead. It is
:01:56. > :02:04.believed they could go into sites like this one to clear them this
:02:05. > :02:07.morning. It is what hundreds: Home, many admitting this is just a
:02:08. > :02:11.stopgap in an attempt to get to England. One of the immigrants
:02:12. > :02:18.showed me where he sleeps. He fears what will happen after the police
:02:19. > :02:26.clear the site. We do not know where to go. Nothing.

:03:16. > :03:26.sleep at a new site where food is served each evening. We came
:03:27. > :03:36.yesterday. We came here because the police came to break up our camp.
:03:37. > :03:39.In 2009 the French bulldozed the so`called jungle which had sprung up
:03:40. > :03:45.after the asylum centre was shot down. This is what remains today.
:03:46. > :03:50.Some say does not solve the problem. People will be disbursed in two
:03:51. > :03:53.cities, probably harassed by the police and become invisible. It is
:03:54. > :03:59.dangerous to cross the Channel and they are taking a lot of risk. With

:05:32. > :05:34.didn't have the resources ` but the county's PCC Katy Bourne has
:05:35. > :05:37.told the BBC they did ` and she's ordered an investigation.
:05:38. > :05:48.It was not what people out for a stroll at a beauty spot on Sunday
:05:49. > :05:56.expected. It took this cycle by surprise. And this dog walker. She
:05:57. > :05:59.spotted a police officer and went straight to him. He said we cannot

:06:07. > :06:10.How did his attitude strike you? Very laid back, no sense of urgency.

:09:08. > :09:10.UKIP topped the polls in 19 out of our 23 council areas.
:09:11. > :09:13.The Conservatives only won in three councils and Labour in just one.
:09:14. > :09:17.So of our 10 MEPs, there are now 4 UKIP, 3 Conservative MEPs, with
:09:18. > :09:22.Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party each with one MEP.
:09:23. > :09:23.In Thanet, Folkestone, Medway and Gravesham,
:09:24. > :09:37.I think what we need to do as a Conservative Party is listen and
:09:38. > :09:41.understand why people are upset about loss of clinical control to
:09:42. > :09:44.Europe, loss of control over borders, and we need to reiterate
:09:45. > :09:49.the fact that the Conservative Party are the best party placed and the
:09:50. > :09:52.only party that can realistically address those issues.
:09:53. > :09:55.So how were the votes shared between the parties?
:09:56. > :09:58.UKIP increased their share of the vote to just over 32%.

:14:38. > :14:41.to general elections and scrutiny, our candidates are very seriously

:14:53. > :14:57.experience of real life. People thought differently in local

:15:32. > :15:34.three parties are using the words protest vote as a comfort blanket so
:15:35. > :15:38.that they can feel better about life. The evidence is that there is
:15:39. > :15:42.a growing number of people out there who aren't UKIP voters. They want to
:15:43. > :15:45.vote UKIP in all forms of election because they believe we're the only

:21:47. > :21:48.has been secured to preserve parts of the cathedral and the
:21:49. > :21:55.Christchurch Gate. Some of the money will go to refurbishing the state.
:21:56. > :22:00.And cleaning it to bring it back to the thing of beauty should be.
:22:01. > :22:08.There is a catch. The only get the lottery cash if the cathedral can
:22:09. > :22:12.raise 5p is now. It is scary. Today is a day I've been quietly happy for

:22:23. > :22:26.believe in this place. The costs of running the cathedral

:22:40. > :22:42.shortfall of at least ?80 million to carry out essential work. Now, the
:22:43. > :22:46.fundraising strategy has changed. Assuming they can raise the money,
:22:47. > :22:50.this copy shop will be converted into a visitor centre. The vast
:22:51. > :22:55.majority of people coming here will still have to pay but if you live in
:22:56. > :23:00.Canterbury you can apply for a smart card which gives you free entry to
:23:01. > :23:04.the cathedral and events. It is the community focus which has impressed
:23:05. > :23:08.the Heritage Lottery Fund. If you have a building as iconic as this
:23:09. > :23:13.which is falling down, it is hard not to be focused on putting that
:23:14. > :23:17.right. It is a real effort to see beyond that. But they have done and
:23:18. > :23:23.therefore the project, rather than just about propping up the building,
:23:24. > :23:27.has become about transformation. The cathedral wants to show that
:23:28. > :23:32.history is far more than just stone and glass.
