:00:30. > :00:38.Baroness Butler`Sloss is facing more questions about her suitability to

:00:39. > :00:43.head an inquiry into allegations of historic abuse.

:00:44. > :00:47.Concerns now by the founder of ChildLine, Esther Rantzen.

:00:48. > :00:52.Baroness Butler`Sloss is very distinguished, very brilliant

:00:53. > :00:54.and possibly the wrong person to have this inquiry,

:00:55. > :00:58.because she has such close links with the judiciary,

:00:59. > :01:02.with her own brother and with the previous report she did.

:01:03. > :01:06.Baroness Butler`Sloss had previously conducted a review into casds of

:01:07. > :01:13.This week, one of the victims told BBC South East

:01:14. > :01:19.she wanted to exclude some of his allegations in her report in a bid

:01:20. > :01:24.Baroness Butler`Sloss said she had never put the reputation

:01:25. > :01:27.of any institution, including the Church of England, abovd

:01:28. > :01:34.She passed on the allegations to the Archbishop of Canterbury but they

:01:35. > :01:40.There have already been calls for Baroness Butler`Sloss to st`nd down

:01:41. > :01:44.as the head of the new national inquiry looking at child abtse.

:01:45. > :01:48.Her late brother was Attorndy General in the 1980s

:01:49. > :01:52.when it is alleged that abuse by public figures was coverdd up.

:01:53. > :01:55.I do not believe the inquirx will have the confidence of survhvors

:01:56. > :01:57.and will really get to the heart of the issues,

:01:58. > :02:01.which will require the full participation of survivors

:02:02. > :02:22.A statement by the Home Offhce said...

:02:23. > :02:25.The Government are right to get on with an independent public hnquiry

:02:26. > :02:31.and I think Baroness Butler`Sloss is the right person to do that.

:02:32. > :02:34.Despite repeated criticism, the Home Office has insisted

:02:35. > :02:42.it stands by the appointment of Baroness Butler`Sloss unresdrvedly.
