:00:00. > :00:12.week. Great, Peter, thanks very much. It

:00:13. > :00:32.It was underpowered and dangerously overloaded. A more experienced pilot

:00:33. > :00:34.would have known this and acted accordingly.

:00:35. > :00:38.scores of people dig for treasure after an artist buries

:00:39. > :00:53.I might win big. I am digging there to find it.

:00:54. > :00:58.More than 800 items ` including handguns and machetes `

:00:59. > :01:03.Up to a fifth of young unemployed people believe

:01:04. > :01:12.Dame Kelly Holmes believes sporting mentors can help turn them around.

:01:13. > :01:16.And latest TV comes to Brighton but does this local alternative have the

:01:17. > :01:47.vision to succeed? It comes

:01:48. > :01:49.after a coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death in the case

:01:50. > :01:51.of Captain Ben Babington`Browne, who died when a Canadian Forces

:01:52. > :01:55.helicopter crashed during take off. An investigation

:01:56. > :01:57.into the crash found the helicopter was overweight and had reduced

:01:58. > :01:59.performance in the heat. Captain Babington`Browne,

:02:00. > :02:02.from Maidstone, died when the Canadian Forces helicopter he was

:02:03. > :02:23.a passenger in crashed while taking Speaking after today's hearing, his

:02:24. > :02:29.mother said the helicopter was inappropriate. This was the case of

:02:30. > :02:33.the wrong helicopter for this particular mission. It was

:02:34. > :02:39.underpowered and dangerously overloaded. More experienced pilots

:02:40. > :02:48.would have known this and acted accordingly.

:02:49. > :02:51.An official Canadian report into the crash, published in 2012,

:02:52. > :02:53.concluded that an intense dust ball was created

:02:54. > :02:56.The pilot flying suffered a loss of situational awareness

:02:57. > :02:59.The investigation found that the training provided to

:03:00. > :03:05.the pilot flying was insufficient for dealing with such a situation.

:03:06. > :03:13.Just can build up very, very quickly. It involves the airframe

:03:14. > :03:15.and there are techniques that we lead `` that we need to use in order

:03:16. > :03:19.to clear the dust. Captain Babington Browne had

:03:20. > :03:21.volunteered for the six month tour of Afghanistan and worked

:03:22. > :03:24.in the headquarters of NATO's a gifted leader,

:03:25. > :03:36.a man with the world at his feet. He set himself endless challenges

:03:37. > :03:42.and was a dedicated officer who loved his job in the Army. He

:03:43. > :03:51.achieved more in his short life than most can manage in a lifetime. I am

:03:52. > :03:56.privileged to have been his mum. A board of enquiry conducted by the

:03:57. > :04:01.Canadians made 19 recommendations following the crash. The Canadian

:04:02. > :04:04.authorities did not attend the hearing, nor respond to the

:04:05. > :04:07.coroner's finding. And Jon is outside the

:04:08. > :04:22.Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone The Canadian authorities haven't

:04:23. > :04:26.been fully cooperative, have they? That is right. The coroner said

:04:27. > :04:30.today that the Canadian authorities were moving at a glacial speed in

:04:31. > :04:34.responding to his requests for information. He told the inquest

:04:35. > :04:40.that it took them more than a year to come back to him, a delay that

:04:41. > :04:43.said `` that he said added significantly to the burden on the

:04:44. > :04:52.family. When they did come back to him, they were refusing to allow any

:04:53. > :04:56.witnesses to the crash to attend the inquest and wouldn't even identify

:04:57. > :04:57.them, meaning there were lots of an item `` unanswered questions about

:04:58. > :05:00.what had happened. Hundreds

:05:01. > :05:02.of treasure hunters have descended on Folkestone beach tonight

:05:03. > :05:05.in a bid to get their hands on one ?10,000 worth of the precious metal

:05:06. > :05:10.has been hidden by German artist, And the best bit is,

:05:11. > :05:13.if you find a bar, you can keep it. The artistic stunt is part

:05:14. > :05:15.of the launch The catch is that the artist has

:05:16. > :05:27.also buried lump metal as well. Let's go live now to Robin Gibson,

:05:28. > :05:29.who's on the beach. Robin, this is really getting

:05:30. > :05:37.major attention now, isn't it? Look at this. Let me take you on a

:05:38. > :05:43.360 degrees view of Folkestone beach. It is crawling with people

:05:44. > :05:48.tonight. They have really responded to the idea that there is ?10,000

:05:49. > :05:54.worth of gold in this speech. This is what has happened. What a day it

:05:55. > :05:59.has been. Was there ever an art show to match this? It has produced

:06:00. > :06:06.crowds of people intent on finding treasure on the beach. I have got my

:06:07. > :06:16.shovel so I am here to win big. Any luck yet? Not yet. I am digging

:06:17. > :06:27.here. It is the idea of a Burling artist and those lucky enough to

:06:28. > :06:34.find a bar of gold can keep it. The price of gold is going up and down

:06:35. > :06:38.like a yo`yo, so maybe it well be worth more by the time it has been

:06:39. > :06:47.found. We will never know whether all the gold has been found or not

:06:48. > :06:53.because people won't say. Gold digging has overhung everything

:06:54. > :07:00.hours today as part of the cultural festival. This is another one of the

:07:01. > :07:08.art installations. I came across the idea and thought that one person

:07:09. > :07:16.will be here every day of the camp. A ride in a wind powered lift. It

:07:17. > :07:33.will be a popular attraction, nestling in the peace of a railway

:07:34. > :07:39.bridge. And here is an eco`garden. It is a completely authentic hop

:07:40. > :07:45.garden. We have got authentic hop garden poles and this stringing is

:07:46. > :07:54.an antique form of stringing hops. Yoko Ono, John Lennon's widow, has

:07:55. > :08:01.divided a flag on top of the grand hotel but nothing can quite matched

:08:02. > :08:07.the gold. Can we be absolutely sure people are looking for genuine gold?

:08:08. > :08:12.I don't think they will be disappointed. If they are, there

:08:13. > :08:16.will be a huge number of people disappointed. The organisers are

:08:17. > :08:23.adamant this is for real. That there are 30 bars of gold buried somewhere

:08:24. > :08:30.on this speech. Like you are varied intent. What is going on? Are you

:08:31. > :08:40.absolutely sure there will be gold? I hope so. How long have you been

:08:41. > :08:49.digging? Either an hour. We are hoping to find gold. Have you been

:08:50. > :08:57.looking for gold? Yes but we haven't found any yet. There is a huge hole

:08:58. > :09:02.over here. These two guys over here, I have been absolutely

:09:03. > :09:11.amazed. Using to be setting off for France. We are building a moat

:09:12. > :09:17.around the town. Are you hoping to find some gold? It is a consumer

:09:18. > :09:22.society and I am skint, so fingers crossed at claymation muck it is a

:09:23. > :09:33.fantastic atmosphere and everyone is hoping to get lucky. `` so fingers

:09:34. > :09:42.crossed! If you strike gold, please let us know:

:09:43. > :09:48.Coming up in a moment, a footballer knocked unconscious but the

:09:49. > :09:52.ambulance did not turn up for over an hour.

:09:53. > :09:57.Beers over how the service is coping with demand. `` fears.

:09:58. > :09:59.Sussex Police have been left baffled by the discovery

:10:00. > :10:02.of a huge quantity of stolen items and weapons in a pond.

:10:03. > :10:04.More than 850 pieces were found, including handguns,

:10:05. > :10:06.knives and a machete in the woodland pond in Worthing.

:10:07. > :10:09.Police are forensically examining the weapons recovered

:10:10. > :10:13.in a bid to see if they have been used in crimes and are hoping to

:10:14. > :10:31.Finders keepers, so the old adage goes, and so this dog thought when

:10:32. > :10:38.he emerged with what seemed to be a jacket and cuff links. He just

:10:39. > :10:44.jumped in. Head under, fetching what I thought was a jacket. I don't know

:10:45. > :10:51.whether it was a bad or something and he came out with a box with cuff

:10:52. > :11:01.links in it. After his discovery, police divers had their turn. Police

:11:02. > :11:05.believe this call has come from at least eight burglaries across the

:11:06. > :11:12.county over the last year. These would have been the region, chucked

:11:13. > :11:17.unceremoniously into the pond. This could be a dumping ground for

:11:18. > :11:22.criminals, after handguns, knives, a machete and even a bayonet were

:11:23. > :11:26.found. Some of the weapons may have been used in crime but that is

:11:27. > :11:31.something we need to follow up. We will send some of the weapons to be

:11:32. > :11:35.forensically examined. Everything has been cleaned and forensically

:11:36. > :11:46.examined and some things have already been identified. Whilst they

:11:47. > :11:51.may not be worth a huge amount, they could be worth something very

:11:52. > :11:55.important sentimentally and they may wish to thank the dog.

:11:56. > :11:57.An easyJet plane carrying 157 passengers had to make

:11:58. > :11:59.an emergency landing at Gatwick Airport earlier after smoke

:12:00. > :12:03.The Airbus aircraft, which was en route from Liverpool to

:12:04. > :12:05.Naples, touched down safely at Gatwick around 7.20 this morning.

:12:06. > :12:08.Passengers have since completed their journey to Italy.

:12:09. > :12:12.Police say an inmate who went on the run from a Kent open prison

:12:13. > :12:15.23 year old Liam White ` who's serving a sentence

:12:16. > :12:22.for robbery ` left Standford Hill on the Isle of Sheppey on Monday

:12:23. > :12:25.A man who set up booby traps to protect a cannabis factory at

:12:26. > :12:29.his Kent home is starting a prison sentence of two years and 10 months.

:12:30. > :12:32.When police officers raided 35 year`old Christopher Rappoport's

:12:33. > :12:34.property in Hawkhurst last year they found more than a kilo

:12:35. > :12:44.of the drug with a street value of more than 10 thousand pounds.

:12:45. > :12:50.South East Coast ambulance staff need extra support in order to keep

:12:51. > :12:55.the service running safely. The service is receiving an extra 150

:12:56. > :13:00.calls a day compared to last year. As the figures were released, it

:13:01. > :13:03.emerged that a footballer knocked unconscious had to drive himself to

:13:04. > :13:10.hospital later because the ambulance took more than an hour to turn up.

:13:11. > :13:15.Back at home recovering after having his face smashed in a football

:13:16. > :13:20.match. We clashed heads, apparently, and I landed on his

:13:21. > :13:26.knee, so I was concussed and my nose or ring with blood. Later, we

:13:27. > :13:32.discovered that my cheekbone and nose were broken. He says he was

:13:33. > :13:38.unconscious for 20 minutes or so. An ambulance was called. The ambulance

:13:39. > :13:41.didn't show and my mum had to drive me in my car. The ambulance service

:13:42. > :13:55.said: Some people might say you could wait

:13:56. > :13:59.for an ambulance. It was not a critical injury. I think that's why

:14:00. > :14:07.they rang the ambulance saying, it is just in fashion and facial

:14:08. > :14:13.injuries, but when I got to hospital it was a lot more dangerous than

:14:14. > :14:18.they thought. Since January, the ambulance service has been receiving

:14:19. > :14:24.annexed to 130 `` 150 calls compared to last year each day. We are saying

:14:25. > :14:28.you need to look at the resourcing, make sure you have enough trained

:14:29. > :14:34.ambulance crews, not from the private sector. We need to make sure

:14:35. > :14:41.there is an increase in ambulance crews to provide the service for the

:14:42. > :14:43.Southeast. The ambulance service says that immediate amulets

:14:44. > :14:48.responsible always be assigned to serious cases. It says it will also

:14:49. > :14:54.advise people to make their own way to accident and emergency if

:14:55. > :14:56.appropriate. Thousands of young children across

:14:57. > :15:02.the south`east could miss out on free nursery places at a time when

:15:03. > :15:08.the government is introducing 15 hours of free childcare for families

:15:09. > :15:12.earning less than ?16,000 a year. A freedom of information request has

:15:13. > :15:18.revealed that Kent has one of the biggest shortfalls of nursery places

:15:19. > :15:23.in the country. Nationally, an extra 260,000 children will be eligible

:15:24. > :15:29.for free childcare. In Kent, an extra 1100 places are needed to meet

:15:30. > :15:34.the demand. In East Sussex, there could be 471 children with no

:15:35. > :15:39.nursery place. Nurseries say they are already under pressure, with

:15:40. > :15:45.some having a six`month waiting list for two`year`olds. There is a huge

:15:46. > :15:50.waiting list already. We have been here three years and we are at full

:15:51. > :16:00.capacity already. We are ring 70 Six Place nursery school. Not all places

:16:01. > :16:04.are struggling. West Sussex has a surplus of places. Similarly,

:16:05. > :16:10.families and Medway should find a nursery space, with 1100 spare

:16:11. > :16:16.places. But there aren't very many spare places in Brighton, just six.

:16:17. > :16:21.Charities say there is a lack of funding from the government which is

:16:22. > :16:27.impacting on parents lives. We have basically been given the thumbs

:16:28. > :16:33.down. No places until he is three. I would like to return to work but I

:16:34. > :16:37.can't because I have nowhere for him to go and I can't afford private

:16:38. > :16:45.childcare. I am joined now by Mr Leeson. Is

:16:46. > :16:51.there a danger that you are about to let down hundreds of children from

:16:52. > :16:56.poorer backgrounds? No, we have got a target to provide 6500 laces for

:16:57. > :17:06.two`year`olds who are eligible under this scheme and there are 5400

:17:07. > :17:10.places. The demand that we have has not yet exceeded the supply. We are

:17:11. > :17:15.keeping place with all of the `` we are keeping pace with all of the

:17:16. > :17:19.places needed and we have an extra 1000 places becoming available in

:17:20. > :17:22.September and October, so I am confident we can provide every

:17:23. > :17:27.eligible to your old with a free nursery place as we go into the

:17:28. > :17:30.early autumn. How long will it take to provide those places, this comes

:17:31. > :17:37.into force on Monday, so parents would have hoped those places would

:17:38. > :17:42.already be open and available. At the moment, we have got a bit of

:17:43. > :17:51.surplus. We have got 82% of the 6500 places and only 79% of those have

:17:52. > :17:57.been taken up. But when this starts on Monday, 82% is not 100%, so there

:17:58. > :18:04.will be lots of children without places on Monday. We are not aware

:18:05. > :18:08.at the moment of any family who have approached us for a place that

:18:09. > :18:12.cannot have a free nursery place for their two`year`old. Any family which

:18:13. > :18:14.is concerned it cannot find a place should contact Kent county council

:18:15. > :18:18.straightaway and I guarantee that we will find them the free nursery

:18:19. > :18:23.place they are untitled two. Thank you.

:18:24. > :18:27.The government scheme comes into force next week. As well as Kent

:18:28. > :18:33.county council, East Sussex county council says it will make up the

:18:34. > :18:39.shortfall by September next year. It is 6:45pm. A current has ruled a

:18:40. > :18:45.verdict of accidental death after a soldier from Maidstone died in

:18:46. > :18:51.Afghanistan. Canadian `` a Canadian forces helicopter that he was a

:18:52. > :18:58.passenger in went out of control. Also tonight, a new way of looking

:18:59. > :19:08.at Brighton and Latest TV promises that if you make it, they will show

:19:09. > :19:18.it. And dry or more rain out of the sky?

:19:19. > :19:23.Almost one fifth of people who have never had a job and dropped out of

:19:24. > :19:29.education believe they will never be able to find work. That is the

:19:30. > :19:33.shocking finding of a survey carried out by the Dame Kelly Holmes trust.

:19:34. > :19:37.But she believes those youngsters can turn their lives around three

:19:38. > :19:47.sport. She has been paring some of them up with mentors.

:19:48. > :19:56.Jake has been looking for work since he was 16. He is now 22. I have

:19:57. > :20:03.never had a job. Why is that? Lack of GCSEs. Have you turned down any

:20:04. > :20:13.jobs? Would you take lower paid jobs? I would but I have not been

:20:14. > :20:19.offered any. There are 108,000 young people in the south`east not in

:20:20. > :20:22.education, employment or training. 18`year`old Charlie is also from

:20:23. > :20:27.Margate but hopes things will be different. He is now providing for

:20:28. > :20:32.his girlfriend and two`year`old son as he trains to be a plasterer. He

:20:33. > :20:39.is being mentored by a former Olympic athlete. I had no confidence

:20:40. > :20:42.and didn't know what I wanted to do and the Dame Kelly Holmes course

:20:43. > :20:45.gave me the confidence to go out and look for something to do. With

:20:46. > :20:51.athletes, they go through what everyone else goes through. You have

:20:52. > :20:56.hard times and good times and you have do adjust yourself to where you

:20:57. > :21:00.want to be. The 10th anniversary of her double Olympic gold gives Kelly

:21:01. > :21:06.Holmes the chance to say young people and athletes can learn from

:21:07. > :21:10.each other. I spent my whole early days feeling as if I wasn't as good

:21:11. > :21:14.as anyone else, sitting outside the classroom with everything going over

:21:15. > :21:18.my head. I didn't think I was achieving until my PE teacher came

:21:19. > :21:22.to me and said, Kelly, you are a great runner, you could be really

:21:23. > :21:27.good at something but you must bakers and believe in yourself. That

:21:28. > :21:32.is the very ethos she says young people need to succeed in the

:21:33. > :21:38.workplace. Within the last hour, a new type of

:21:39. > :21:45.local TV service has launched in Brighton and Hove, promising

:21:46. > :21:53.dedicated TV for the city. Called Latest TV, it is funded in part by

:21:54. > :21:56.the government and the BBC. John Young is an Brighton now. They have

:21:57. > :22:05.set themselves quite a task, haven't they? They certainly have, on a 24

:22:06. > :22:12.hours a day seven days a week. They broadcast on free view Channel

:22:13. > :22:20.eight. Today, it was the turn of Brighton to go live. They have been

:22:21. > :22:30.waiting four years for this moment. The news and entertainment service

:22:31. > :22:36.based in a club, with a newsroom that turns back into a bar by night.

:22:37. > :22:40.This afternoon, 18 you sensed just wanted to get on air. On the sports

:22:41. > :22:48.desk they said they were very positive. We are really proud. There

:22:49. > :22:54.is a real buzz about the place. It has been a long time coming. We have

:22:55. > :23:00.been doing stuff on line for years `` online for years and we have been

:23:01. > :23:05.building up towards this day. In a city like Brighton, soundproofing

:23:06. > :23:08.near a studio can be a problem, but they say they understand this as

:23:09. > :23:15.they also understand local businesses. Local businesses need

:23:16. > :23:22.another outlet to present themselves on TV in an affordable way. London

:23:23. > :23:28.and Grimsby are two of several that have launched already with Maidstone

:23:29. > :23:33.and Tunbridge in the pipeline but viewing figures in London have not

:23:34. > :23:38.been promising. The more local information there is, these more

:23:39. > :23:43.citizens will be engaged. The reality is that has been difficult

:23:44. > :23:49.to get people to watch. Much more difficult than people hoped it would

:23:50. > :23:55.be. It wait to be for everyone, we know that, but we feel there is an

:23:56. > :24:01.appetite in Brighton to have local people on board. We put that to test

:24:02. > :24:07.at the pub over the road. Because the news coverage is quite broad, it

:24:08. > :24:16.is nice to see things that are opening `` happening in UI in town.

:24:17. > :24:25.It is interesting to hear about that. That is one happy viewer. The

:24:26. > :24:31.presenters, producers and advertisers will be hoping she is

:24:32. > :24:40.the first of many. It is all about numbers. Evidence today showing what

:24:41. > :24:45.the problems could be. The local newspaper has recently lost 13% of

:24:46. > :24:54.their readership. The people at Latest TV will be hoping that is

:24:55. > :24:57.because they want their news on TV. Earlier in the programme, we told

:24:58. > :25:01.you that hundreds of people have gone down to Folkestone beach in the

:25:02. > :25:08.hope of striking gold because a German artist has buried ?10,000

:25:09. > :25:12.worth of gold in the sand there. And it is a case of finders keepers

:25:13. > :25:18.but the catches as well as the gold bars, he has buried lumps of metal.

:25:19. > :25:25.Our reporter is there. Has anyone struck gold yet? Well, we haven't

:25:26. > :25:30.heard the cry go up but everyone is extremely happy at the moment. We

:25:31. > :25:36.have children with buckets and spades, mums and dads with garden

:25:37. > :25:39.spades and people with metal detectors. Everyone is still the

:25:40. > :25:45.king but we haven't had that cry of gold just yet. That is in line with

:25:46. > :25:50.what the organisers have said. They may never know if this gold is found

:25:51. > :25:58.because people may want to keep it to themselves. As Robin got his

:25:59. > :26:06.metal detector down there? Perhaps he has stashed it all

:26:07. > :26:15.himself. You know he we are only two thirds of the way through the year,

:26:16. > :26:21.we are already at 100% of our reign for greater. I think it is high time

:26:22. > :26:27.we got some high pressure. It looks like that is on the cards. As we

:26:28. > :26:32.head towards the weekend, I think the low pressures will be pushed off

:26:33. > :26:37.towards the north and high pressure will build over us, particularly in

:26:38. > :26:42.the south of England and we will see the weather improving. It will not

:26:43. > :26:46.be wall`to`wall sunshine but we will see the weather settling down and

:26:47. > :26:53.becoming drier and brighter, with sunny spells as well. Mostly dry,

:26:54. > :26:58.hopefully. There are a few crafty showers out there at the moment, but

:26:59. > :27:04.many of us will have a dry evening. After a mostly dry day, a few

:27:05. > :27:10.splashes offering out there but most places will have a dry night. The

:27:11. > :27:13.main feature tonight is the wind. It is really picking up. Overnight

:27:14. > :27:20.tonight it will increase to 20 or 25 mph. If you have fruit trees, you

:27:21. > :27:25.might want to head out and pick some. Otherwise they will be plucked

:27:26. > :27:34.off the trees by the strong winds. The winds will remain with us

:27:35. > :27:39.tomorrow. A very breezy Friday but it should be mostly dry, with sunny

:27:40. > :27:45.spells and temperatures up to 20 or 21 degrees. After that, into

:27:46. > :27:50.tomorrow evening, we have a drizzly duo coming through. Not bringing us

:27:51. > :27:56.too much rain but some places are already online for having the most

:27:57. > :27:59.wet August since 1917. Hopefully that weather front tomorrow when

:28:00. > :28:06.much more than a few millimetres on it. After Saturday, the weather

:28:07. > :28:16.settles down. That is all. See you tomorrow.

:28:17. > :28:18.Go away if you don't me to speak to you like that!

:28:19. > :28:22.Most schools exclude disruptive pupils.

:28:23. > :28:25.I ain't putting up with this any more.

:28:26. > :28:30.But one school takes them in and promises five GCSEs.
