:01:15. > :01:18.the murder of Elizabeth Thomas who is reported to have been
:01:19. > :01:21.in a relationship with him. Her body was discovered at Miles'
:01:22. > :01:25.family's flat in Oxted Surrey. At the time of her death, it was
:01:26. > :01:28.reported that friends claimed Elizabeth Thomas wanted to end her
:01:29. > :01:31.relationship with Steven Miles. She had just recently joined
:01:32. > :01:46.Oxted School sixth form, Elizabeth Thomas was 17 when she was
:01:47. > :01:51.stabbed to death. Today, another teenager, Steven Miles, admitted
:01:52. > :01:56.killing her. It happened in this flat earlier this year. A death left
:01:57. > :02:01.the community shocked, her family said their lives have been broken
:02:02. > :02:05.beyond repair. The news brings home to everyone here the appalling
:02:06. > :02:10.nature of this tragedy. Our hearts go out to her family and all of
:02:11. > :02:19.those closely affected by this dreadful news. Elizabeth Thomas's
:02:20. > :02:24.body was found in the flat on January 24. Steven Miles, then 16,
:02:25. > :02:29.was arrested at the scene and just over one week later was charged with
:02:30. > :02:34.her murder. Today he pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on the 2nd of
:02:35. > :02:38.October. At the time of her death, Elizabeth's family said they had
:02:39. > :02:43.been overwhelmed by the messages and support they had received from
:02:44. > :02:49.everyone who knew her. We were all shocked. They were nice family. We
:02:50. > :02:56.all know each other year. We were devastated for them. It is shocking
:02:57. > :03:00.it happened around here. I think everyone was shocked. Elizabeth
:03:01. > :03:04.Thomas had been sitting for her A`levels. Her family said they were
:03:05. > :03:06.extremely proud of what should achieved and described her as a
:03:07. > :03:11.kind, caring and loving person. Our reporter Mark Saunders has been
:03:12. > :03:13.following the story for us Mark,
:03:14. > :03:26.what have the police been saying? This is where Elizabeth lost her
:03:27. > :03:31.life, right at the heart of the small team unity. Surrey police
:03:32. > :03:37.issued a statement. One of the officers said this was a tragic loss
:03:38. > :03:41.of a young girl and the devastating impact of the incident, which
:03:42. > :03:46.unfolded, continues to be felt, not just by the family and friends by
:03:47. > :03:51.the wider community. In a sense, those comments reflected in remarks
:03:52. > :03:55.by the judge today, he described the circumstances of this murder as
:03:56. > :04:00.horrific. He did say he would give Steven Miles credit for guilty plea
:04:01. > :04:03.at this stage. Miles himself is due to be sentenced next month.
:04:04. > :04:05.A patient has spoken of how she felt abandoned
:04:06. > :04:08.after being left waiting for an ambulance for almost eight hours.
:04:09. > :04:11.Marion Ham was due to be taken from hospital in East Grinstead to
:04:12. > :04:14.Pembury, by the privately run NSL transport service.The
:04:15. > :04:19.service has already faced criticism following an inspection earlier this
:04:20. > :04:39.Recovering from an ankle operation, it was an infection which Turk
:04:40. > :04:48.Marion Ham back to hospital and doctors gave her an assessment. She
:04:49. > :04:54.thought she would be for `` therefore an hour but she was there
:04:55. > :05:02.for longer. I was very uncomfortable and distressed, scared of what might
:05:03. > :05:07.not be going on my leg. It got to 9pm in evening and I was told the
:05:08. > :05:15.unit shuts down by 10pm. We haven't heard from anyone. NSL when the
:05:16. > :05:20.contract to run non`evidence the ambulances. Within days hundreds of
:05:21. > :05:24.patients complained they have been left stranded. The Care Quality
:05:25. > :05:29.Commission reported on a series of key failures. In July two report
:05:30. > :05:35.said there were still problems. NSL said they have improved but accept
:05:36. > :05:40.this case doesn't that. Most people would see that as an acceptable. I
:05:41. > :05:46.can assure all patients are important to us. The group now runs
:05:47. > :05:52.the contract. Their chief officer said the service received by Marion
:05:53. > :05:56.Ham was an acceptable. While it had improved over the past year, it
:05:57. > :06:02.still wasn't good enough. The contract of NSL is up in June 2016.
:06:03. > :06:06.Some believe it is time to ditch contracting out the service
:06:07. > :06:11.altogether. It is when ambulance services run by the private sector
:06:12. > :06:16.which have ballooned under David Cameron. It hits home that they
:06:17. > :06:22.should be about public service to people like Marion Ham, not about
:06:23. > :06:26.profits and given second`rate service. Marion Ham was taken in an
:06:27. > :06:28.emergency ambulance. NSL said they have spoken to her and will learn
:06:29. > :06:46.from what she has taught them. In a moment the pieces of art that
:06:47. > :06:50.could give a clue to Hastings's history.
:06:51. > :06:53.There are demands for a reduction in the speed limit on the
:06:54. > :06:56.Sheppey Crossing in Kent in a bid to save lives.
:06:57. > :06:59.Councillors voted last night to ask the Highways Agency to cut it
:07:00. > :07:04.It follows a 150 vehicle pile`up a year ago and a fatal crash in July.
:07:05. > :07:12.A crossing that simply isn't safe, according to some councillors.

:08:35. > :08:40.actually making the decision, that the answer must be only 50 mph.

:13:16. > :13:21.of three paintings, which may hold vital clues to its past.

:13:24. > :13:26.a boys club and are now hanging in the Conquest Hospital, are believed
:13:27. > :13:31.It's costing ?14 million to rebuild the pier after a fire in 2010,
:13:32. > :13:33.with ?11.4 million coming from lottery funding and ?590,000
