:01:02. > :01:09.of his latest musical appearance on stage in Canterbury.

:01:10. > :01:14.The Kent, Sussex and Surrey Air Ambulance could have to stop

:01:15. > :01:19.operating completely if it's forced out of its current home at Redhill.

:01:20. > :01:21.Funded largely by charitable donations, its chief executive

:01:22. > :01:24.has told this programme that the service's future

:01:25. > :01:28.is in serious doubt because of plans to redevelop the aerodrome.

:01:29. > :01:31.Last year, the service attended over 2,000 missions.

:01:32. > :01:35.But they say there are very limited options for alternative sites

:01:36. > :01:37.because the helicopter has to be able to reach all parts

:01:38. > :01:48.Our Health Correspondent Mark Norman has this exclusive report.

:01:49. > :01:54.This is the positive future of the air Ambulance Service in Kent,

:01:55. > :01:57.Surrey and Sussex. A brand-new bigger, faster helicopter that will

:01:58. > :02:04.save lives once it comes into service in a few weeks' time. It is

:02:05. > :02:09.like bringing resuscitation to the patient. You can bring the patient

:02:10. > :02:15.inside and deliver treatment. That could save a huge amount of our

:02:16. > :02:19.time, and for our patients, that time is saving lives, that is a huge

:02:20. > :02:22.thing. As you have heard, this helicopter is a game changer for the

:02:23. > :02:27.Ambulance Service, and the first in the country. They want to develop

:02:28. > :02:34.their operational centre in Redhill for the next 20 or 30 years, but

:02:35. > :02:38.there plans to build 4500 homes in the aerodrome. That raises a huge

:02:39. > :02:42.question mark over the future of our air Ambulance Service. The air

:02:43. > :02:45.Ambulance Service has had plans to convert this hangar in Redhill into

:02:46. > :02:50.its main operating base. But what about those are the plans to build

:02:51. > :02:54.homes here? Their plans to build 4500 homes on that runway. Where

:02:55. > :02:59.does that leave the service? With an uncertain future. And whilst in one

:03:00. > :03:04.sense we are really looking forward to moving in here and doing all that

:03:05. > :03:09.we need to do here, the new aircraft and all that means, uncertainty, a

:03:10. > :03:13.question mark over our future, is not a nice place to be. Somebody's

:03:14. > :03:19.got to look at the strategic picture and say, are we going to deprive the

:03:20. > :03:23.region of a very, very much-needed asset? If planners remove that

:03:24. > :03:29.capability from us, people well so far. HM Bell has been speaking to

:03:30. > :03:34.local councillors and developers, they are very aware of the possible

:03:35. > :03:37.consequences of any decision. It is a huge local decision-making

:03:38. > :03:42.process, but the air ambulance is a regional service. Does that impact

:03:43. > :03:44.on your bot process? It will do, because it is a material

:03:45. > :03:48.consideration the planners will need to take into account. What we are

:03:49. > :03:53.looking for is an improved mix of housing, better than the current

:03:54. > :03:58.mix. It has got to be more affordable, because house prices are

:03:59. > :04:02.14 times average earnings. Last year, this person's life was saved

:04:03. > :04:06.by the Ambulance Service. Here's an example of why they have invested 7

:04:07. > :04:10.million euros in this new helicopter, and they want more of

:04:11. > :04:12.them to improve the capability and availability of their service. And

:04:13. > :04:13.they want to main operating base to do that.

:04:14. > :04:15.The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance currently

:04:16. > :04:18.flies two helicopters, which can fly at speeds of up to 150

:04:19. > :04:21.mph, which means they can reach any part of Kent,

:04:22. > :04:25.Last year, the project received a ?1.5 million Government grant,

:04:26. > :04:30.and the rest of its funding is raised by donations.

:04:31. > :04:32.Our Health Correspondent Mark Norman is at the Air Ambulance

:04:33. > :04:50.Does it realistically mean that the service could" yellow -- code"

:04:51. > :04:54.yellow it still has its base, its spiritual home in Kent. You can see

:04:55. > :04:59.one in stand-by or no Redhill, that was up in the air on a shout just

:05:00. > :05:03.under an hour ago. This operates 24 hours a day and at night, not all

:05:04. > :05:07.air Ambulance Services do that. They want more flights available, to have

:05:08. > :05:11.more capability to save more lives. They say they need a main operating

:05:12. > :05:20.base to do that, they want it here at Redhill. If that can't happen,

:05:21. > :05:22.they say they are not sure what will happen. They will have to scale back

:05:23. > :05:24.things, nobody wants to see that. Thanks, Mark.

:05:25. > :05:27.It was a disaster which killed 11 men from Sussex, and tonight,

:05:28. > :05:30.18 months after the Shoreham Airshow crash, the families of the victims

:05:31. > :05:32.are being shown the final conclusions of the official report

:05:33. > :05:36.The Air Accident Investigation Branch will publish

:05:37. > :05:39.Meanwhile, the pilot of the vintage jet, Andy Hill -

:05:40. > :05:42.who survived the crash onto the A27 - is still under investigation

:05:43. > :05:50.Our Special Correspondent Colin Campbell has this report.

:05:51. > :05:58.It is a report into the deadliest civilian airshow disaster in 60

:05:59. > :06:03.years. Families of the 11 who lost their lives hope it will make safety

:06:04. > :06:08.recommendations to prevent further tragedy and explain what caused the

:06:09. > :06:11.crash. This is an important step in achieving closure for the families

:06:12. > :06:17.of the victims. They have waited 18 months now to get to the heart of

:06:18. > :06:21.what exactly happened on that fateful day in August. The crash

:06:22. > :06:27.happened on the first day of the popular two-day Shoreham Airshow.

:06:28. > :06:32.The 1950s walk on tour was the first flight of the afternoon's session of

:06:33. > :06:37.displays. -- hawk and. It started with a low pass along the runway,

:06:38. > :06:41.turning for a second flyby. Behind the cordoned off official viewing

:06:42. > :06:44.areas lies by a 27, a busy main road where the number of enthusiasts had

:06:45. > :06:49.pulled over to get a good view of the flights. Nearing the airport and

:06:50. > :06:52.directly above the 827, the Jet pulled up to perform a loop the

:06:53. > :06:58.loop, but it went horribly wrong. The plane failing to pull out of the

:06:59. > :07:02.manoeuvre and plummeting into the westbound carriageway. The pilot

:07:03. > :07:06.Andy Hill was thrown free and survived. If he is at fault in any

:07:07. > :07:13.way whatsoever, if you made an error of judgment, showing off, anything,

:07:14. > :07:18.then I wanted to be a strong case brought against him. Igniting a huge

:07:19. > :07:22.fireball, the plane broke into four parts, destroying a number of cars.

:07:23. > :07:28.People in the town are anxious to know how it happened, why it

:07:29. > :07:34.happened. Not out of idle curiosity, because it is part of our life.

:07:35. > :07:37.Victims' families are today being given an advance briefing from the

:07:38. > :07:38.air accident investigation bureau, the full report will be published

:07:39. > :07:41.tomorrow at noon. Well, let's cross live to Shoreham

:07:42. > :07:43.and our reporter Charlie Rose, who's at the memorial

:07:44. > :07:45.to the victims. Charlie, the outcome of this

:07:46. > :07:47.report will determine whether the pilot Andy Hill

:07:48. > :08:03.is likely to be prosecuted? Well, this report is the culmination

:08:04. > :08:07.of 18 months of work by the air accident investigation Branch. It

:08:08. > :08:10.says the point of this report is not a blame game or a finger-pointing

:08:11. > :08:15.exercise. Instead, what it sets out to do is to find out what caused the

:08:16. > :08:17.crash and to make safety recommendations for the future. You

:08:18. > :08:22.only need to look behind me to get an idea of what all of this means to

:08:23. > :08:24.the families of the victims and the communities here in Shoreham. The

:08:25. > :08:29.families have had face-to-face meetings with the accident

:08:30. > :08:32.investigation Branch ahead of tomorrow's report which is expected

:08:33. > :08:34.to be published at midday. Thank you, Charlie.

:08:35. > :08:36.We'll have a special programme tomorrow looking

:08:37. > :08:39.We'll also have reaction and analysis on our Facebook page,

:08:40. > :08:47.Twitter and our live news page at bbc.co.uk/sussex.

:08:48. > :08:50.In a moment: The happy family photos of an evil dictator -

:08:51. > :08:52.unseen pictures of Adolf Hitler taken from his wife's bedside table

:08:53. > :09:07.David Hill was born in Eastbourne, but sent to Australia as a child.

:09:08. > :09:10.There, he suffered appalling abuse, including being publicly beaten

:09:11. > :09:14.He's now given evidence to the child abuse inquiry that

:09:15. > :09:19.Initially it will look at the cases of children in care who were sent

:09:20. > :09:22.overseas between 1920 and the 1970s - more than 130,000 children

:09:23. > :09:26.were sent to places like Canada and Australia.

:09:27. > :09:30.The full inquiry is expected to take about five years to complete.

:09:31. > :09:33.David Hill, who waived his right to anonymity, is urging the inquiry

:09:34. > :09:37.to name and shame the abusers, even if they are no longer alive.

:09:38. > :09:45.Returning to the docks where he left for Australia 58 years ago,

:09:46. > :09:48.David Hill came back to Britain to tell the Child Sexual Abuse

:09:51. > :10:01.And are permanently afflicted with guilt, shame,

:10:02. > :10:05.diminished self-confidence, low self-esteem, fear and trauma...

:10:06. > :10:08.Initially, everything was very promising.

:10:09. > :10:10.David Hill and the other child migrants stayed

:10:11. > :10:13.at a mansion near Sevenoaks, where they were fitted

:10:14. > :10:19.VOICEOVER: The liner Astorius arrives at Freemantle from Britain

:10:20. > :10:24.It was only after they were shipped across the world that the promise

:10:25. > :10:26.of escaping poverty in Eastbourne for educational opportunities

:10:27. > :10:32.in Australia turned into a living nightmare.

:10:33. > :10:38.Using hockey sticks to beat up kids, public thrashings where all the boys

:10:39. > :10:43.in the village had to turn up to witness the boys being flogged.

:10:44. > :10:47.All of this was illegal, and I had no idea about that at the time,

:10:48. > :10:50.although I witnessed it and indeed experienced it.

:10:51. > :10:52.While at Fairbridge, David Hill was never sexually abused.

:10:53. > :10:54.But he discovered many were while researching a book

:10:55. > :10:59.Charities say lessons must be learned.

:11:00. > :11:01.Many of the youngsters that were shipped abroad

:11:02. > :11:06.And people have taken their own lives.

:11:07. > :11:12.But at least at long last it's coming out now,

:11:13. > :11:15.and I think that's got to be a good thing.

:11:16. > :11:17.While giving his evidence, David Hill told the inquiry

:11:18. > :11:20.that the brutality and sexual abuse have ruined lives.

:11:21. > :11:23.And, even after all of these years, the perpetrators should

:11:24. > :11:28.Peter Whittlesea, BBC South East Today.

:11:29. > :11:30.A Parliamentary aide to the Conservative MP

:11:31. > :11:33.for South Thanet has been charged with two counts of rape.

:11:34. > :11:36.Samuel Armstrong, who was Chief-of-Staff to Craig Mackinley,

:11:37. > :11:39.has been suspended since being arrested and bailed in October

:11:40. > :11:42.following an alleged incident in Westminster.

:11:43. > :11:45.He'll appear at Westminster Magistrates Court later this month.

:11:46. > :11:47.A study commissioned by the Government has said

:11:48. > :11:49.there is only a "poor" case for a second Brighton Mainline

:11:50. > :11:51.to London to be built via Lewes and Uckfield.

:11:52. > :11:54.The report found the best solution to rising demand on the route

:11:55. > :11:57.between London and Sussex would be to improve the existing

:11:58. > :12:03.Shocking footage of the moment a speeding driver lost control

:12:04. > :12:07.of their car on the M2 in Kent, crashing over a roundabout

:12:08. > :12:09.near the Bluewater Shopping Centre, has now been viewed almost

:12:10. > :12:15.Kent Police are investigating the circumstances around

:12:16. > :12:17.the incident, which was captured by a dashboard camera

:12:18. > :12:32.Its journey is being captured by a camera on another car.

:12:33. > :12:35.It comes off the A2 in the direction of Bluewater,

:12:36. > :12:41.The car goes into a roundabout, and into trees.

:12:42. > :12:48.I think it is a classic example of somebody

:12:49. > :12:56.They have come off the slip road at the wrong speed,

:12:57. > :12:59.they haven't braked in time, and they ended up being very lucky

:13:00. > :13:04.to walk away from the accident at that sort of speed coming off

:13:05. > :13:11.We showed the footage to people in nearby Beam.

:13:12. > :13:23.The state of driving today is just awful.

:13:24. > :13:26.When you drive round the M25, you see so much of it,

:13:27. > :13:30.You wouldn't believe some of the things that happen.

:13:31. > :13:32.It is unclear when the crash here actually took place.

:13:33. > :13:37.But the footage of it was posted online on Tuesday.

:13:38. > :13:45.I understand though that Kent Police were aware of it before that

:13:46. > :13:48.when they were contacted by the producers of a World's Worst

:13:49. > :13:53.It's not thought the driver was seriously hurt.

:13:54. > :13:58.Simon Jones, BBC South East Today, Beam.

:13:59. > :14:04.Our top story... The air ambulance is facing an uncertain future if it

:14:05. > :14:08.is forced out of its current home at Redhill. The chief executive of the

:14:09. > :14:10.servers has told this programme its future is up in the air because of

:14:11. > :14:21.plans to redevelop the aerodrome. It is the cat in the hat, fantastic

:14:22. > :14:25.Mr Fox, and the buffalo. Fancy dress for children celebrating world book

:14:26. > :14:30.day. The weather is looking pretty unsettled. I will have a forecast

:14:31. > :14:34.but later in the programme. -- forecast view.

:14:35. > :14:36.There are countless images of Adolf Hitler taken

:14:37. > :14:38.during his rise to power and as German leader

:14:39. > :14:46.He was often photographed in uniform, at huge rallies all with

:14:47. > :14:50.his troops. -- all with his troops. But very few have been seen

:14:51. > :14:53.like those going up for auction They're in a photo album said

:14:54. > :14:57.to have belonged to his wife Eva Braun and removed

:14:58. > :15:00.from the bunker where they both died That album is going up for auction

:15:01. > :15:08.in Kent. Sara Smith has tonight's

:15:09. > :15:09.Special Report. Quite unusual, because he's

:15:10. > :15:13.actually in a casual pose, Its subjects reading,

:15:14. > :15:24.smiling, relaxing. But the men featured here are those

:15:25. > :15:28.who inflicted the greatest of horrors on the world,

:15:29. > :15:32.before and during World War II. It's certainly quite

:15:33. > :15:40.a contrast to how the Nazi I think we like to be able

:15:41. > :15:47.to separate something that was evil by looking at the people and seeing

:15:48. > :15:50.that they are different to us. But when we see an album that's full

:15:51. > :15:53.of shots that might be in our draw upstairs,

:15:54. > :16:01.that's a bit disconcerting. VOICEOVER: Outside Hitler's air raid

:16:02. > :16:04.shelter at the Chancellory is the spot where the bodies

:16:05. > :16:06.of Hitler and his alleged wife, Eva Braun, were said

:16:07. > :16:08.to have been burned. It was in Hitler's bunker

:16:09. > :16:12.here in Berlin at the end of the war that British press photographer

:16:13. > :16:14.Dixie Dean is said to It was hidden in a draw

:16:15. > :16:19.in the room of Eva Braun, filmed here at the so-called Eagles'

:16:20. > :16:22.Nest with the man whom she would later marry just a few hours

:16:23. > :16:27.before their joint suicide. We've got, you know, the description

:16:28. > :16:30.and statement of the finder. We've got an article

:16:31. > :16:32.with photographs taken just So there's absolutely no doubt

:16:33. > :16:37.that it genuinely came from her room in the bunker,

:16:38. > :16:43.from Eva Braun's cream. Who took these pictures

:16:44. > :16:46.remains a mystery. The album is expected to reach

:16:47. > :16:53.upwards of ?15,000 when it goes Sarah Smith, BBC South

:17:19. > :17:22.being innovative and ground-breaking and keen to reach out to inspire new

:17:23. > :17:28.generations of theatre-goers. Now it is getting to do it in amazingly

:17:29. > :17:32.direct way by literally donating its auditorium to a school at Maidstone.

:17:33. > :17:36.A teacher spotted an ad in a newspaper offering a chance for the

:17:37. > :17:41.group to take away the old seats during their refurbishment. It is

:17:42. > :17:45.literally an opportunity to recycle the tricycle.

:17:46. > :17:58.This is the auditorium of the tricycle Theatre. World renowned as

:17:59. > :18:03.a fringe stage in London. There have been many acclaimed productions here

:18:28. > :18:31.is the heart of everything. To give it to a squall that will really

:19:01. > :19:05.rehouse it here, we are really looking forward to it. It's a bit

:19:06. > :19:10.crazy, but I think it's going to be really good. And when it's done, we

:19:11. > :19:14.will be using it all the time, hopefully. A lot of our school is

:19:15. > :19:18.quite modern, it will be nice to have something different. This

:19:19. > :19:22.theatrical dream lies here in one enormous flat pack. Like all flat

:19:23. > :19:27.packs, sooner or later they have to work out how it goes back together.
