:00:31. > :00:34.or delayed in and out of Gatwick Airport.

:00:38. > :00:40.anything or go anywhere until I know what is going on.

:00:44. > :00:48.I have friends waiting for me in Prague for the New Year

:00:49. > :00:51.so I cannot let them know what is going on, so it is a bit

:00:52. > :00:56.We're waiting the daughter and brother and son-in-law

:00:57. > :00:59.and we got here at five o'clockm expecting them to land at six

:01:00. > :01:01.and they said they had been taken to Birmingham,

:01:02. > :01:04.we rang again half and hour ago and they are still sitting

:01:05. > :01:08.on the plane at Birmingham waiting for coaches to come to bring them

:01:09. > :01:13.Some will spent a night waiting in terminals,

:01:14. > :01:17.EasyJet alone, one of the largest carriers at Gatwick,

:01:18. > :01:23.The weather is mainly affecting journeys to and from mainland

:01:24. > :01:26.Europe such as France, Italy and Spain.

:01:27. > :01:29.In a statement Gatwick Airport say they are working extremely hard

:01:30. > :01:33.to keep passengers moving and extra staff have been brought in to help.

:01:34. > :01:37.The fog is here to stay, though, until tomorrow at least.

:01:38. > :01:41.Very poor visibility is expected overnight and into the morning.

:01:42. > :01:44.However the winds should pick up a little bit and that should

:01:45. > :01:47.help to shift the fog so I think from late morning onwards

:01:48. > :01:50.The airlines affected told us anyone whose flight has been cancelled

:01:51. > :01:54.today could be eligible to claim a full refund.

:01:55. > :02:01.But the main advice for travellers is to check before you set out.

:02:02. > :02:03.Southern Rail is warning of severe disruption

:02:04. > :02:06.across its network once again - as train conductors stage

:02:07. > :02:13.The company says some routes will have no service

:02:14. > :02:16.at all tomorrow, New Years Day and Monday the 2nd,

:02:17. > :02:19.while the majority of others will have a very limited service.

:02:20. > :02:25.It's the traditional way to see in the new year,

:02:26. > :02:27.but could the London fireworks fall flat for south-east partygoers?

:02:28. > :02:29.Another train strike means services home

:02:30. > :02:36.It is a bit of a disgrace that it has gone on for as long as it has.

:02:37. > :02:40.You would have thought something would have been sorted by now.

:02:41. > :02:43.They have a right to go on strike, even though it will inconvenience

:02:44. > :02:46.other people, but in a way I am kind of with them.

:02:47. > :02:48.It is not great because it is New Year's Eve.

:02:49. > :02:50.I mean, I fully appreciate everything going on with

:02:51. > :02:56.This is Britain's worst train strike in 20 years.

:02:57. > :03:00.It is over Southern's plans to make drivers solely

:03:01. > :03:03.responsible for train safety, using CCTV cameras to monitor doors.

:03:04. > :03:06.The proposals we made were entirely reasonable and we think the union's

:03:07. > :03:09.reaction has been unreasonable and disproportionate and we think

:03:10. > :03:12.strikes are absolutely unnecessary and I call upon the trade unions

:03:13. > :03:18.to consider calling off the strikes, even at this late moment.

:03:19. > :03:21.But the unions say they have the public on their side.

:03:22. > :03:24.We did cancel the strikes on Christmas Eve and the day

:03:25. > :03:31.We have done everything we can to recognise that the public have

:03:32. > :03:33.been wonderful supporting our position on maintaining

:03:34. > :03:36.the safety and critical role of the guard on the train.

:03:37. > :03:38.This strike will start tomorrow for three days,

:03:39. > :03:41.with another planned for January the 9th.

:03:42. > :03:50.Many will be hoping for a New Year's resolution to the ongoing crisis.

:03:51. > :03:52.Hospital emergency departments in the South East say they're

:03:53. > :03:54.experiencing extremely high demand with the A department

:03:55. > :03:57.at the Medway Maritime Hospital saying it has more patients coming

:03:58. > :04:03.Patients in East Kent have had to wait up to four

:04:04. > :04:08.In Sussex, hospitals say they are under "severe

:04:09. > :04:15.For the past few weeks we have seen a really high numbers of patients

:04:16. > :04:16.attending the emergency department of Medway.

:04:17. > :04:18.We're usually very busy in the run-up to Christmas

:04:19. > :04:21.but we usually see a lull over the few days of Christmas

:04:22. > :04:23.and we just have not seen that this year,

:04:24. > :04:25.so the department has been under constant pressure

:04:26. > :04:33.Kent Olympic medalists Tom Ransley and Susannah Townsend are to receive

:04:34. > :04:36.MBEs in the New Year's Honours for their services to sport.

:04:37. > :04:39.Susannah, who plays for Canterbury, was part of the Team GB women's

:04:40. > :04:43.hockey team which won gold at the Rio Olympics.

:04:44. > :04:45.Tom, from Ashford, was part of the champion gold-winning men's

:04:46. > :04:48.rowing eight team this summer and says it's an honour

:04:49. > :04:55.to have his - and the team's achievement recognised.

:04:59. > :05:01.of the coaches, it's a much wider team and that's why it is really

:05:02. > :05:04.nice to receive this sort of almost on behalf of the wider community

:05:32. > :05:38.thicken up. The Met office have a yellow weather warning in place

:05:39. > :05:41.until 10am tomorrow morning. It will be particularly nasty with poor

:05:42. > :05:47.visibility and some freezing fog tonight. Through the night you can

:05:48. > :05:55.see how the fog continues to thicken up as temperatures fall and bygone

:05:56. > :06:00.very slippery indeed. A cold start tomorrow, very grey and it takes its

:06:01. > :06:04.time for that mist and fog to lift into low cloud and by the afternoon

:06:05. > :06:08.we may seek someone breaks giving the odd bit of brightness in the

:06:09. > :06:15.afternoon. Not quite as cool as recent days, eight Celsius. In two

:06:16. > :06:19.New Year's TV it the cloud stays with us, it should be dry and

:06:44. > :06:48.cold note. This weather front will move south in the next day or so

:06:49. > :06:52.bringing rain with it, but also much colder air following a lull behind.
