:00:00. > :00:00.Today's main headlines in the South East..

:00:07. > :00:09.A sharp rise in the number of anti-depressants being prescribed

:00:10. > :00:12.in the South East, especially in more deprived areas.

:00:13. > :00:14.More misery for Southern Rail commuters - RMT talks

:00:15. > :00:29.We are alive with all the latest. It words a mild day with highs of

:00:30. > :00:36.14. It is a foggy start to tomorrow. There's been a sharp rise

:00:37. > :00:42.in the number of anti-depressants being prescribed in the South East -

:00:43. > :00:45.especially in areas of higher Over the last two years,

:00:46. > :00:52.prescriptions are up by 16% in Hastings and Rother,

:00:53. > :00:54.15% in Thanet and 14% In total, across Kent,

:00:55. > :00:59.Surrey and Sussex, almost four million anti-depressant

:01:00. > :01:01.prescriptions were Tonight one Sussex MP says other

:01:02. > :01:09.vitally needed mental-health services are STILL not available,

:01:10. > :01:11.despite government efforts Yvette Austin has our

:01:12. > :01:19.exclusive report. Jackie Bennett from Peacehaven fell

:01:20. > :01:22.into a downward spiral of depression following a triple-bypass heart

:01:23. > :01:25.operation three years ago. She is recovering now

:01:26. > :01:28.after talking therapy but only after a bad experience

:01:29. > :01:32.with antidepressant drugs. The first ones were the ones that

:01:33. > :01:35.made me even more depressed They knocked me into the middle

:01:36. > :01:41.of next week and then I became sick with them,

:01:42. > :01:45.so they tried me on another and another and another and I got

:01:46. > :01:47.sick on all of them. I think the doctors were doing

:01:48. > :01:50.what they thought was best The figures suggest more and more

:01:51. > :02:01.people are being prescribed such drugs, as increasing numbers

:02:02. > :02:03.are diagnosed with depression. Charities are concerned not enough

:02:04. > :02:06.focus is being put on improving access to alternatives such

:02:07. > :02:10.as talking therapies. Often we hear from professionals

:02:11. > :02:13.that because of the problems with their mental-health services

:02:14. > :02:20.in their area, long waiting times for talking therapy,

:02:21. > :02:22.or no alternatives, they feel the only option is to give someone

:02:23. > :02:25.a prescription of antidepressants because it is better

:02:26. > :02:27.than giving them nothing. This doctor is a GP

:02:28. > :02:29.specialising in mental health. She says some patients,

:02:30. > :02:33.particularly those with moderate to severe symptoms, need to take

:02:34. > :02:37.antidepressants at first to improve the chances of a successful recovery

:02:38. > :02:40.using other methods. They have lost motivation

:02:41. > :02:45.and they don't feel like going out, they don't feel like meeting people,

:02:46. > :02:48.they don't feel like talking The antidepressants give them

:02:49. > :02:55.the extra nudge to access the type of activities and treatment that

:02:56. > :02:58.will go to prevent them getting The Government has pledged

:02:59. > :03:05.?1.3 billion for mental-health services but tonight a former

:03:06. > :03:08.Minister for Families and Children called for more money to go

:03:09. > :03:12.to where it is really needed. It is absolutely crucial that more

:03:13. > :03:21.money goes into mental health, that is ring-fenced, it goes

:03:22. > :03:23.in early, particularly to children, children will have some

:03:24. > :03:26.form of mental illness, and the earlier we can get to that,

:03:27. > :03:30.the more likely we are to stop that becoming a problem

:03:31. > :03:32.into adulthood as well. It is in the more deprived coastal

:03:33. > :03:38.towns of the South East where the use of antidepressants

:03:39. > :03:49.is increasing at a higher rate. The Department of Health

:03:50. > :03:52.says its targets for improvement are being exceeded but more needs

:03:53. > :03:54.to be done. The Department of Health

:03:55. > :03:57.says targets have been exceeded but it is striving

:03:58. > :03:59.to improve further. Commuters on Southern

:04:00. > :04:01.Rail face another day It follows the acrimonious breakdown

:04:02. > :04:05.of talks yesterday between the RMT RMT union members will walk out

:04:06. > :04:08.for 24 hours next Wednesday, claiming that driver-only operation

:04:09. > :04:10.of trains is unsafe. We're still fighting to get every

:04:11. > :04:13.role, a safety critical role, ensure there is a guard

:04:14. > :04:15.on every train. Disabled passengers have told us

:04:16. > :04:19.several times, we have been inundated with phone calls,

:04:20. > :04:21.that it is already nearly impossible for them to plan a journey

:04:22. > :04:24.because there are not people, enough people on the stations

:04:25. > :04:26.and not enough people on The fight goes on as far

:04:27. > :04:30.as we are concerned. Let's cross live to our

:04:31. > :04:32.reporter Briohny Williams at Three Bridges Station in west

:04:33. > :04:34.Sussex. Briohny, what's the reaction tonight

:04:35. > :04:43.to this latest strike? I asked to speak to somebody from

:04:44. > :04:47.Southern rail but nobody was available for comment. In a

:04:48. > :04:51.statement they said they are deeply disappointed that the RMT have

:04:52. > :04:58.called this action but they will try to provide as full service as

:04:59. > :05:02.possible on the 22nd of February. This is the 29th day of industrial

:05:03. > :05:07.action the RMT have called for and the commuters I have been speaking

:05:08. > :05:11.to at this station are clearly frustrating.

:05:12. > :05:19.It has been going on for far too long so somebody needs to do

:05:20. > :05:20.something about it. Chris Grayling needs to step in and do something

:05:21. > :05:33.This announcement comes just a day about it.

:05:34. > :05:38.This announcement comes just a day before all eyes will be on the other

:05:39. > :05:41.union involved in the dispute with Southern rail, Aslef, which

:05:42. > :05:45.represents train drivers. They struck a deal two weeks ago and its

:05:46. > :05:49.members have been voting, that ballot closes tomorrow as to whether

:05:50. > :05:54.they agree with the deal or not. If they don't agree tomorrow, the

:05:55. > :05:56.uncertainty the passengers about how long this dispute will go on for is

:05:57. > :06:01.still there. -- for passengers. And you can follow updates

:06:02. > :06:04.on the Aslef ballot result - and what it means for you -

:06:05. > :06:06.on our live pages throughout The Brighton and Hove Albion

:06:07. > :06:10.footballer Rohan Ince has been cleared by a jury of attacking

:06:11. > :06:13.a nightclub bouncer with a bottle. The 24-year-old midfielder had

:06:14. > :06:15.denied wounding with intent, after an incident that left

:06:16. > :06:18.the bouncer with a serious head injury in Windsor

:06:19. > :06:23.on Christmas Day 2015. They've become known

:06:24. > :06:27.as the "Grindr murders" - four young men lured to meetings

:06:28. > :06:31.through the gay dating app, then killed with drug overdoses,

:06:32. > :06:33.their bodies dumped within yards of the flat of serial

:06:34. > :06:36.killer Stephen Port. His conviction in November

:06:37. > :06:38.raised serious questions Now families of the victims -

:06:39. > :06:45.including 21-year-old Daniel Whitworth from Gravesend -

:06:46. > :06:48.have contributed to a new BBC documentary, renewing

:06:49. > :06:51.their campaign for answers. Sara Smith has tonight's

:06:52. > :06:54.special report. Stephen Port was guilty

:06:55. > :06:58.of murder, rape and assault. The families of his victims say

:06:59. > :07:01.the police are guilty of not In this BBC Three documentary,

:07:02. > :07:07.their struggle for justice I just think that we were hurried

:07:08. > :07:19.along to get a line drawn under this and it has left another

:07:20. > :07:21.family, another family besides ours, in this

:07:22. > :07:25.awful, awful position. Daniel, from Gravesend,

:07:26. > :07:32.was found dead in the same spot, an east London graveyard,

:07:33. > :07:35.as another man who died three A third had been found

:07:36. > :07:39.a year before that nearby. All had met Port

:07:40. > :07:44.through gay dating sites. At inquest it was discovered that

:07:45. > :07:46.Daniel's suicide note, actually written by Port,

:07:47. > :07:48.had never been checked By the end of the summer of 2014,

:07:49. > :07:57.three young men had been found dead. Despite the similarities,

:07:58. > :07:59.none of their deaths After the inquest

:08:00. > :08:12.for Daniel Whitworth, his family asked detectives

:08:13. > :08:14.to reopen their investigation. They were told that

:08:15. > :08:16.would not be happening. Three months after that,

:08:17. > :08:18.Port took his fourth Once again police blamed

:08:19. > :08:21.a self-inflicted overdose. The families have got a lot

:08:22. > :08:24.of unanswered questions. They've had to content and deal

:08:25. > :08:27.with the fact that a loved one was taken away from them

:08:28. > :08:31.in circumstances such as this. They've then had a number

:08:32. > :08:33.of interactions and All that has happened to date

:08:34. > :08:37.is more questions have How can I put into words

:08:38. > :08:41.how let down I feel? that is there to

:08:42. > :08:50.protect the community. The police response is now under

:08:51. > :08:53.investigation but that is too late for the families

:08:54. > :08:56.of Port's victims. So are the families

:08:57. > :09:10.planning any action At the moment they are waiting to

:09:11. > :09:12.see what the IPCC comes up with. They have so many questions and they

:09:13. > :09:16.are hoping that report answers some are hoping that report answers some

:09:17. > :09:19.of them. They are most upset about the fact that right from the start

:09:20. > :09:25.friends and family of the victims were going to, saying this doesn't

:09:26. > :09:29.feel right, maybe you should take action. Time and again they were

:09:30. > :09:31.fobbed off by a force determined that there was nothing suspicious

:09:32. > :09:33.about these deaths. You can see the full

:09:34. > :09:36.BBC Three documentary - called How Police Missed

:09:37. > :09:38.the Grindr Killer - That's it from me, your national

:09:39. > :09:43.weather forecast in a moment, but first let's get the picture

:09:44. > :09:55.in the South East Good evening. Temperatures continue

:09:56. > :10:00.to creep up in the South East. Today we saw the Bridges of 14 degrees in

:10:01. > :10:04.Gravesend. It was not a wash-out, there was some brightness despite

:10:05. > :10:14.the cloud. Temperatures will continue to be above the seasonal

:10:15. > :10:19.average through the week. 16 degrees possible. Tonight it stays mild,

:10:20. > :10:27.temperatures only dropping to six or 7 degrees. We have an eye pressure

:10:28. > :10:30.-- an area of high pressure building. We will have mist vote

:10:31. > :10:38.tomorrow morning and quite a bit of cloud. Gentle south-westerly breeze

:10:39. > :10:46.is tomorrow. Temperatures should again be in double figures, perhaps

:10:47. > :10:52.as high as 11 or 12. Overnight Thursday into Friday, more of the

:10:53. > :10:58.same, mist and fog, overnight temperatures only dropping 26 or 7

:10:59. > :11:00.degrees mild and 40 to start the day on Friday, brightening up by the

:11:01. > :11:03.afternoon, highs the weekend. Wouldn't promise you

:11:04. > :11:05.two dry days but you never know, here is Nick with the national

:11:06. > :11:10.picture. Hello. We put that cold weekend well

:11:11. > :11:14.behind us now. Temperatures edging upwards and our weather watchers are

:11:15. > :11:18.seeing plenty of signs of spring. Spending more time looking down than

:11:19. > :11:21.looking up at the skies, we see these early blooms. They are set to

:11:22. > :11:24.continue as we are set to stay mild for several more days to come.

:11:25. > :11:25.Average
