:00:54. > :00:57.Karen Constantine and Raushan Ara, who are standing for election

:01:04. > :01:07.We were fortunate enough to be given thousands and thousands
:01:08. > :01:15.And within that, we give out to charities and good causes
:01:16. > :01:17.and today is a good cause that I stand for,
:01:18. > :01:19.which happens to be the Labour Party.
:01:20. > :01:23.These boxes of toiletries were supposed to go to the needy.
:01:24. > :01:27.Instead, they ended up on sale in a Ramsgate pub to raise money
:01:28. > :01:35.By anybody's standards, taking charitable donations destined
:01:36. > :01:40.for homeless people and destitute people to use and sell
:01:41. > :01:48.and fund your election campaign is morally reprehensible.
:01:49. > :01:50.The products were given by Lush to one charity,
:01:51. > :01:52.the Kindness Offensive, on the condition
:01:53. > :01:56.That charity passed it to another, Food For All,
:01:57. > :01:59.and it was they who gave it to Labour.
:02:00. > :02:02.But there are rules restricting donations from charities
:02:03. > :02:06.Charities must only carry out activities to achieve its own
:02:07. > :02:09.charitable purposes and donation of funds or objects
:02:10. > :02:14.to a political party would be contrary to the purposes
:02:15. > :02:20.Food For All's Jenny Matias has sent a letter of apology
:02:21. > :02:28.She said she was informed they were not to be sold for profit
:02:29. > :02:31.and they apologised and they had not totally adhered to
:02:32. > :02:35.and that they are devastated that their unwise actions
:02:36. > :02:38.to a certain group have since become problematic.
:02:39. > :02:42.As for Labour, they told us they have not breached electoral law
:02:43. > :02:46.and there are no allegations they have broken any rules.
:02:47. > :02:49.Its candidates, Karen Constantine and Raushan Ara have apologised
:02:50. > :02:53.and said the ?415 raised will be split between two local charities.
:02:54. > :02:58.In Ramsgate today, some thought that was enough.
:02:59. > :03:02.If the money is going to charity, then yes.
:03:03. > :03:04.It shouldn't have happened in the first place.
:03:05. > :03:11.The Charity Commissioners said they are contacting the trustees

:03:29. > :03:35.We've spoken to several local politicians and there are mixed
:03:36. > :03:39.feelings. Some think the Labour Party should carry out its own
:03:40. > :03:42.internal investigation but they have told us they are satisfied there
:03:43. > :03:47.does need to be one. Others think this is a genuine mistake and action
:03:48. > :03:52.has already been taken to put it right. A complaint has been made to
:03:53. > :03:55.Kent Police but they say it is too early to say whether they will
:03:56. > :03:57.investigate further. Plans for lifeguards to be stationed
:03:58. > :04:00.at a popular beach in East Sussex where seven people drowned
:04:01. > :04:02.last summer have been Rother District Council has set
:04:03. > :04:06.aside more than ?50,000 to fund the service
:04:07. > :04:08.at Camber Sands, near Rye. Families of the men who drowned say
