:00:00. > :00:00.Today's main headlines in the South East.

:00:00. > :00:07.How the Dartford Crossing was officially classified as a rural

:00:08. > :00:09.road, avoiding the need to publish pollution data.

:00:10. > :00:14.And the new boss of Paramount Park outlines their plans

:00:15. > :00:23.for the ?3 billion attraction in north Kent.

:00:24. > :00:29.And after some decent spells of sunshine, tomorrow's Woodborough

:00:30. > :00:33.tomorrow stays dry and bright. The Dartford Crossing is one

:00:34. > :00:37.of the busiest sections of road in the country and air pollution

:00:38. > :00:40.levels regularly exceed the safe limit, but until two years ago,

:00:41. > :00:43.it was classified by the Government The error means the levels

:00:44. > :00:46.of pollution there haven't been passed on to the European Union,

:00:47. > :00:49.which can impose fines when safety The mistake was revealed

:00:50. > :00:52.exclusively to BBC South East 50 million journeys are made on this

:00:53. > :01:03.stretch of road every year. The towns closest, Dartford

:01:04. > :01:05.to the south and Thurrock to the North, have some

:01:06. > :01:07.of the highest percentages of death due to air

:01:08. > :01:10.pollution in the south-east. In Dartford, the council has

:01:11. > :01:12.recorded nitrogen dioxide levels above safe limits for years

:01:13. > :01:14.and when the town didn't appear in the national air quality

:01:15. > :01:17.plan, they were puzzled. We discovered that the approach road

:01:18. > :01:31.was classed as a rural Road and therefore, the air monitoring

:01:32. > :01:34.figures that they had and that they were using for their modelling

:01:35. > :01:36.purposes were incorrect. It means for years, national data

:01:37. > :01:45.on our pollution has not included this incredibly busy

:01:46. > :01:48.stretch of road. Whoever decided that there is no

:01:49. > :01:51.pollution around here must be... Probably doesn't live

:01:52. > :01:56.in Dartford, to be honest. I've got two small children

:01:57. > :01:59.and regularly if you live here, you will notice several times a day

:02:00. > :02:02.or several times a week, there The crossing and its approach roads

:02:03. > :02:07.are not classed as part of the motorway but as the A282,

:02:08. > :02:10.and a roads can count as rural But that's clearly

:02:11. > :02:13.not the case here. Jim Sutton, who lives

:02:14. > :02:15.near the crossing, believes it is exasperated the respiratory

:02:16. > :02:17.problems which affected The air pollution around

:02:18. > :02:26.here certainly did not help her. She always used to say,

:02:27. > :02:29.I wish we could move, Jim. Scientists from Kings College have

:02:30. > :02:35.carried out their own monitoring. The European legal limit was broken

:02:36. > :02:38.on three days and that was primarily because of pollution which the road

:02:39. > :02:41.is producing every day with the traffic on it was joined up

:02:42. > :02:44.with pollution that was coming over The Department for the Environment

:02:45. > :02:55.says the Department for Transport The Department for Transport says

:02:56. > :02:58.it was the Department Either way, it has finally been

:02:59. > :03:12.reclassified as bourbon. Leanne is on the approach

:03:13. > :03:16.to the Dartford crossing and Leanne, this is more than just a mix up over

:03:17. > :03:23.names, isn't it? Yes, because it means the air

:03:24. > :03:27.pollution from this road behind me which affects thousands of people

:03:28. > :03:31.either side has not been considered by the government and when those air

:03:32. > :03:34.pollution levels rise above those levels set by the European Union,

:03:35. > :03:38.there has not been any penalties. All this comes as the leader of the

:03:39. > :03:41.World Health Organization has described air pollution as one of

:03:42. > :03:42.the most pernicious threats to public health, disproportionately

:03:43. > :03:45.affecting children. There's fresh controversy tonight

:03:46. > :03:48.over hundreds of pounds of cosmetics that should have gone to needy

:03:49. > :03:50.people but were instead sold by a Labour party

:03:51. > :03:53.member in Ramsgate to help fund her County Council

:03:54. > :03:54.election campaign. BBC South East Today has spoken

:03:55. > :03:58.to one woman who told us she was led to believe the sale was in aid

:03:59. > :04:00.of charity and says The equivalent amount

:04:01. > :04:03.of money raised has now been Our Political Editor

:04:04. > :04:11.Helen Catt reports. This sale of donated

:04:12. > :04:13.cosmetics in a Ramsgate Pub Facebook posts by its organiser

:04:14. > :04:16.Karen Constantine made clear that the money was destined

:04:17. > :04:18.for Labour coffers. But now there are claims that

:04:19. > :04:21.customers at the pub sale may have thought they were giving

:04:22. > :04:29.to charity instead. I asked her what she wanted on that

:04:30. > :04:32.board and the word charity Natalie Garrett was working

:04:33. > :04:39.at the pub during the sale. As a former charity

:04:40. > :04:41.volunteer herself, she says Some of my friends and even some

:04:42. > :04:49.of my family purchased some If they'd have known

:04:50. > :04:54.that it was for a political party, then it just wouldn't

:04:55. > :04:57.have been supported. But here we are at the warehouse,

:04:58. > :05:00.and we are fortunate The sale has already caused

:05:01. > :05:04.controversy after it emerged the donations had come

:05:05. > :05:09.from a charity Food For All. ..Good causes and today is one

:05:10. > :05:11.of those good causes, one of the good causes that I stand

:05:12. > :05:15.for as well, which happens to be the Labour Party, so yes,

:05:16. > :05:18.my name is Jenny and you are looking at our warehouse and hopefully we

:05:19. > :05:21.can raise some funds for the cause. Jenny has since apologised

:05:22. > :05:23.for giving the goods. When contacted by us today,

:05:24. > :05:25.Karen Constantine declined She reiterated that she fully

:05:26. > :05:28.apologised for not knowing the election funding laws

:05:29. > :05:31.regarding charities and had taken immediate steps to make sure

:05:32. > :05:33.that the money raised had gone Labour has repeated its statement

:05:34. > :05:37.that the party has not breached electoral law and there is no

:05:38. > :05:39.allegation that the party Natalie says knowing the money

:05:40. > :05:45.is now with charity is rightful and just but she believes it doesn't

:05:46. > :05:48.make up for it happening The manager of the pub in Ramsgate

:05:49. > :06:04.where the Lush products were sold has contacted BBC South East tonight

:06:05. > :06:07.to claim that the wording 'for charity' was noton

:06:08. > :06:10.the advertising board on the day of the sale and says

:06:11. > :06:12.that he has CCTV footage A former British Army

:06:13. > :06:21.officer from Sussex has Tristan Voorspuy was killed

:06:22. > :06:24.on the ranch he owned on Sunday. Mr Voorspuy was a pupil

:06:25. > :06:27.at Eastbourne College and moved to the area of Laikipia in Kenya

:06:28. > :06:30.in the 1980s to set up The area's suffering a drought

:06:31. > :06:34.and the Foreign Office is warning of an increase in armed raids

:06:35. > :06:36.by cattle herders in The company planning to build one

:06:37. > :06:47.of the world's biggest theme parks in North Kent says small businesses

:06:48. > :06:51.may have to sell up if they can't London Resort Company Holdings

:06:52. > :06:54.intends to submit a planning application for Paramount Park

:06:55. > :06:56.later this year. The attraction on the Swanscombe

:06:57. > :06:57.Peninsula is projected They hope to attract around

:06:58. > :07:01.15 million visitors a year and plan to create around 27,000 jobs

:07:02. > :07:03.in the area. Disneyland Paris, a huge

:07:04. > :07:15.entertainment resort, the likes of which can't be found

:07:16. > :07:18.in the UK. But this man wants

:07:19. > :07:19.to change all that. He wants to build a grade one

:07:20. > :07:22.destination theme park twice the size of the Olympic Park

:07:23. > :07:24.with 5000 hotel rooms But businesses in the area fear it

:07:25. > :07:28.all mean they could be How much are you going to offer them

:07:29. > :07:38.to make way for your attraction? Well, we are in talks with them

:07:39. > :07:42.and we meet regularly and we will be offering them obviously the market

:07:43. > :07:45.related price of their land. It won't be the case that they'll be

:07:46. > :07:53.forced off their land? In terms of that, there is a process

:07:54. > :07:56.with any planning application where either the forehand,

:07:57. > :07:58.before the application is submitted, people can enter into an agreement

:07:59. > :08:01.and in some cases, there will be a time where we will purchase

:08:02. > :08:04.their land after the planning And he says if an agreement isn't

:08:05. > :08:21.reached, that could mean land having to be bought by a compulsory

:08:22. > :08:23.purchase order, but in return, there'll be

:08:24. > :08:29.a world-class resort and jobs. There has been a tremendous

:08:30. > :08:30.response, a tremendous positive response locally,

:08:31. > :08:32.for reasons which I think We are going to provide

:08:33. > :08:39.jobs, 27,000 jobs. It will bring a lot

:08:40. > :08:41.of jobs to the area, how traffic is going to cope,

:08:42. > :08:43.I don't know. I'm quite excited

:08:44. > :08:50.about it, to be honest. I am a bit worried about

:08:51. > :08:53.the build-up, but I understand it is in four or five years,

:08:54. > :08:56.so hopefully by then, the railways and the roads around here,

:08:57. > :08:58.because they are diabolical as it is, so hopefully,

:08:59. > :09:02.it should be all right then. The planning application will be

:09:03. > :09:04.submitted by the end of the year and if the outcome of that goes

:09:05. > :09:07.the developer's way, Paramount Park could be

:09:08. > :09:09.opening its doors five That's it from me, we'll

:09:10. > :09:15.have the national weather in a moment, first here's

:09:16. > :09:38.the forecast for the There will be some rain around this

:09:39. > :09:42.week. Especially for Wednesday but we are expecting to see temperatures

:09:43. > :09:48.by Thursday and Friday reach highs of 13 or 14 degrees. Average for the

:09:49. > :09:53.time of year is still around six or seven. Tonight, one or two scattered

:09:54. > :09:58.showers but mostly dry as we start the day tomorrow and with clearer

:09:59. > :10:01.skies, temperatures falling away. Lots of sunshine tomorrow,

:10:02. > :10:09.especially given the morning. By the afternoon, we start to see a bit

:10:10. > :10:13.more in the way of cloud cover. For tomorrow afternoon, very pleasant.

:10:14. > :10:17.Light winds and where we see temperatures in more sheltered spots

:10:18. > :10:20.reaching ten or 11 degrees. As we had to tomorrow night, overnight

:10:21. > :10:27.lows will only be falling away to six or 7 degrees. That rain is heavy

:10:28. > :10:34.at times. Spent -- eventually it will head eastwards. A very mild

:10:35. > :10:38.night. Outbreaks of rain on Wednesday, particularly during the

:10:39. > :10:43.afternoon but staying very mild. Temperatures in double figures.

:10:44. > :10:47.Highs of 11 or 12 degrees. As we had through the tail end of the week,

:10:48. > :10:52.staying breezy. A lot of cloud around. Especially for Thursday.

:10:53. > :10:57.Temperatures staying in double figures. Here is the outlook for the

:10:58. > :11:02.south-east. cool, it will be windy at times as

:11:03. > :11:05.well and still rather unsettled with some blustery showers around. That's

:11:06. > :11:07.the London forecast and now for the National forecast, over to Nick

:11:08. > :11:20.Miller. North-west France and Plymouth were

:11:21. > :11:25.miles apart weather-wise. This southern flank in north-west France

:11:26. > :11:29.there was a wind gusts of 120 mph which we just dodged. That area of

:11:30. > :11:33.low pressure continues to move quickly south-eastwards so that by

:11:34. > :11:37.tomorrow it is in Italy on its southern flank, stormy in Sardinia

:11:38. > :11:41.and around it strong winds blowing through south-east France. We've got

:11:42. > :11:45.a little bump in the ice bars with lighter winds, a brief ridge of high

:11:46. > :11:48.pressure, things briefly settled going into tomorrow, overnight there

:11:49. > :11:51.are some showers around moving through western Scotland and

:11:52. > :11:56.north-west England and the Midlands, clearing Wales, one or two in the

:11:57. > :11:58.east, the North Sea tip of high pressure, things briefly settled

:11:59. > :12:01.going into tomorrow, overnight there are some showers around moving

:12:02. > :12:02.through western Scotland and north-west England and
