:01:10. > :01:14.She was well known and loved in this small Sussex town,

:01:15. > :01:21.which is still reeling from what happened on Sunday.

:01:22. > :01:27.Knowing that three kids have lost their mum.

:01:28. > :01:30.They lived about eight doors down from us and they were always

:01:31. > :01:34.Her husband, her and her three children all the time.

:01:35. > :01:37.It has been a shock for the whole town.

:01:38. > :01:40.I was talking to some other people who actually know them who live down

:02:16. > :02:18.It's certainly fair to say that it's had a big impact on the staff

:02:49. > :02:50.A candle burns tonight among the many tributes laid

:02:51. > :02:54.Messages of love and sadness from those who knew Mrs Masters

:02:55. > :03:02.and the wider community touched by this tragedy.

:03:03. > :03:04.Amanda is in Battle now - Amanda, what's the latest

:03:05. > :03:18.Well, this evening the police have told us that the 34-year-old driver

:03:19. > :03:20.is still in hospital. She will be interviewed once she has been

:03:21. > :03:25.released from hospital and they are also still waiting for the results

:03:26. > :03:27.of the blood sample analysis which will help the investigation to

:03:28. > :03:31.establish whether or not alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

:03:32. > :03:35.Police have told us they are still keen to hear from anyone who may

:03:36. > :03:40.have seen that black car in the moments leading up to the crash and

:03:41. > :03:43.meanwhile this evening a group of local residents and businesses have

:03:44. > :03:47.started a petition. They say they have been warning for some time that

:03:48. > :03:51.some drivers do travel along this road far too quickly along the

:03:52. > :03:54.narrow streets and they are concerned about this ability with

:03:55. > :03:56.traffic along either side of the road.

:03:57. > :03:59.More than 40 junior doctors are being withdrawn from a Kent

:04:00. > :04:01.hospital, amid concerns that patient safety is being compromised.

:04:02. > :04:03.Health Education England has requested the removal of more

:04:04. > :04:05.than half of the Kent and Canterbury's trainee doctors,

:04:06. > :04:08.because of a shortage of permanent consultants who oversee training.

:04:09. > :04:22.Our Health Correspondent Mark Norman reports.

:04:23. > :04:25.In the next 12 weeks, more than half of all the junior

:04:26. > :04:27.doctors in this hospital in Canterbury will be removed.

:04:28. > :04:29.Removed by Health Education in England, who say that doctors

:04:30. > :04:31.aren't being trained properly and are not being

:04:32. > :04:34.Making changes to hospital services is not

:04:35. > :04:37.What's really important is that we run safe services today,

:04:38. > :04:41.we need to make changes in how we do it going forward to ensure

:04:42. > :04:43.we continue to provide good care to our patients and good

:04:44. > :04:48.Health Education England are responsible for overseeing

:04:49. > :04:52.They told us today that in Canterbury, there aren't enough

:04:53. > :04:58.That 42 out of 76 trainees at the hospital will be removed.

:04:59. > :05:03.And that it will affect about 50 patients a day for those

:05:04. > :05:09.But how does a hospital run with 55% fewer junior doctors?

:05:10. > :05:12.Some in-patient services, such as heart, stroke and elderly care,

:05:13. > :05:15.will move to either Margate or Ashford, but the trust insists

:05:16. > :05:20.So it will mean that some services, a very small percentage of services,

:05:21. > :05:26.Not immediately but at some point in the future.

:05:27. > :05:29.However, for more than a decade, campaigners locally have fought

:05:30. > :05:31.to keep services at the Kent and Canterbury, and some fear

:05:32. > :05:34.that the trust are planning to downgrade or possibly even close

:05:35. > :05:38.the hospital and they are furious at today's news.

:05:39. > :05:42.What are we going to have left there is nothing and we are not

:05:43. > :05:44.going to have a hospital in Canterbury, come

:05:45. > :05:46.And campaigners tell me they're planning another

:05:47. > :05:49.march through Canterbury to argue their case.

:05:50. > :05:52.And the hospital and Health Education England say the temporary

:05:53. > :05:55.changes to services will begin in the next few weeks.

:05:56. > :05:59.Mark Norman, BBC South East Today, Canterbury.

:06:00. > :06:02.Leanne Rinne has also been following this story.

:06:03. > :06:05.Leanne, after today's announcement how reassured should

:06:06. > :06:16.The trust involved has been trying to reassure patients today. The

:06:17. > :06:19.trust has been saying today that the patients will always receive the

:06:20. > :06:22.best possible care that I have been speaking to the Royal College of

:06:23. > :06:25.Nursing and they say they have concerns because some of the nurses

:06:26. > :06:29.will be moving along with the junior doctors and they don't yet have the

:06:30. > :06:33.details of that. Earlier on today we understand that a staff meeting was

:06:34. > :06:36.held at the hospital. We understand many people were upset about the

:06:37. > :06:39.changes taking place but that also there was a determination to see

:06:40. > :06:44.things through. I think the main question the night from campaigners

:06:45. > :06:47.is why is there not enough consultants at the Kent and

:06:48. > :06:49.Canterbury Hospital? They want answers and they want people to be

:06:50. > :06:51.held to account. Thank you. An innocent man who panicked -

:06:52. > :06:54.or a lying manipulative killer? The question jurors have been told

:06:55. > :06:57.they now have to answer in the trial of a man accused of murdering Sussex

:06:58. > :07:00.teenager Shana Grice. The 19-year-old's throat

:07:01. > :07:03.was cut at her home Her former boyfriend Michael Lane

:07:04. > :07:07.denies stalking, then killing her Michael Lane doesn't deny being

:07:08. > :07:15.at Shana Grice's flat on the morning she was murdered but he says she was

:07:16. > :07:20.already dead when he arrived. He admits lying to

:07:21. > :07:23.police on his arrest but his defence counsel

:07:24. > :07:26.told the jury today that was because he was panicked

:07:27. > :07:29.and terrified by the conclusion that police

:07:30. > :07:31.would and did jump to. There was, said his counsel,

:07:32. > :07:34.no direct evidence of his involvement, it was

:07:35. > :07:36.all circumstantial. But the prosecution asked

:07:37. > :07:44.the jury to decide if this really was an innocent man

:07:45. > :07:47.who was panicked or a lying, He told a friend Shana

:07:48. > :07:51.would pay for leaving him. She did, it was said,

:07:52. > :07:54.with her life at his hands. She was found dead, her throat cut

:07:55. > :07:59.at the flat she had shared with Michael Lane had stolen

:08:00. > :08:03.a key to her home and put Several times she had

:08:04. > :08:07.reported him to police for stalking but on one occasion had

:08:08. > :08:09.been given a penalty notice herself The judge told the jury

:08:10. > :08:15.this case had given rise to a great deal of emotion

:08:16. > :08:19.and that they would need cool heads. They weren't there,

:08:20. > :08:21.he said, to like or dislike Michael Lane or take

:08:22. > :08:23.a personal view about Shana Grice's

:08:24. > :08:27.behaviour, but to take an objective Sara Smith, BBC South East Today,

:08:28. > :08:32.Lewes Crown Court. The RMT Union has announced it

:08:33. > :08:37.will push back it's latest strike action to allow for fresh talks

:08:38. > :08:40.with Southern Rail in the ongoing dispute over the safety

:08:41. > :08:44.of driver-only operated trains. RMT members were due to go on strike

:08:45. > :08:48.for 24 hours on the 4th April but will now strike instead

:08:49. > :08:52.on Saturday 8th April - An RMT spokesman said the issue

:08:53. > :08:56.of safety is "fundamental" and must be "addressed

:08:57. > :09:00.at the negotiating table". The RNLI is to provide

:09:01. > :09:02.lifeguards on Hastings beaches Following an agreement

:09:03. > :09:07.with Hastings Borough Council, the charity will introduce three

:09:08. > :09:11.lifeguard stations at Pelham beach Lifeguards have previously operated

:09:12. > :09:14.on beaches in the area, but the service was run by the local

:09:15. > :09:17.council and supported They had to wait an extra day

:09:18. > :09:25.for blue skies, but today two spitfires flew over the white cliffs

:09:26. > :09:28.of Dover to mark the one hundredth The fly-past was cancelled yesterday

:09:29. > :09:35.because of bad weather. But the pilots said

:09:36. > :09:38.they were determined to take to the skies this morning to honour

:09:39. > :09:41.the forces' sweetheart, who's lived Now, let's take a look

:09:42. > :09:48.at the weather in the South East Rachel, a great day for flying today

:09:49. > :10:00.but all change again tomorrow. Yes, not good flying weather

:10:01. > :10:04.tomorrow. The rain is back again and we will be holding onto that much

:10:05. > :10:07.cooler air that we have had today. Today, temperatures did well to get

:10:08. > :10:11.out of single figures. Clear blue skies for the most part and as we

:10:12. > :10:15.had through the night it is going to be staying dry and clear. As a

:10:16. > :10:20.result, quite chilly. Overnight lows of two of three Celsius in rural

:10:21. > :10:24.spots but it stays breezy so we should be staying frost free. You

:10:25. > :10:28.are up early we are going to be seeing sunshine first thing for

:10:29. > :10:31.Wednesday. Very quickly as we had through the morning, though, we will

:10:32. > :10:34.see outbreaks of rainbows of the reason for this area of low

:10:35. > :10:40.pressure. There is even snow, not pass in the South. We'll see rain.

:10:41. > :10:44.Heavy for a time, particularly in the middle of the day. Because of

:10:45. > :10:48.the winds, it passes through and behind it we start to see some

:10:49. > :10:52.breaks in that cloud cover. Just the cut these temperatures, chilly, only

:10:53. > :10:57.reaching highs of seven or eight Celsius, re-blustery southerly

:10:58. > :10:59.winds, 25 mph. In Thursday, further outbreaks of rain and again on

:11:00. > :11:01.Friday. The outlook in gradually improve through Friday and

:11:02. > :11:13.the weekend isn't looking bad. Heavy rain, snow and ice are all in

:11:14. > :11:16.the forecast once again. It was quite a wintry scene today,

:11:17. > :11:21.especially in Scotland. Some very cold looking winter skies here, and

:11:22. > :11:24.we had some snow falling at times in West Lothian. For a while earlier

:11:25. > :11:27.today, there were quite a few showers running through central

:11:28. > :11:36.Scotland, all in that cold air. Right now, we have two areas of

:11:37. > :11:39.cloud, one in northern Scotland and this deepening area bringing heavy

:11:40. > :11:41.rain into south-west England and Wales overnight, with snow
