:00:00. > :00:12.Here in the South East tonight: Nine members of an Albanian gang

:00:13. > :00:14.are jailed for dealing class A drugs in Sussex.

:00:15. > :00:16.We'll be live in Brighton, with the details.

:00:17. > :00:22.A retired Kent vicar urges the Church of England

:00:23. > :00:26.- after finding love with a 24-year-old.

:00:27. > :00:30.And, saying goodbye to a legend - stars of the motor racing

:00:31. > :00:38.world gather in Sussex for John Surtees' funeral.

:00:39. > :00:51.Nine members of an Albanian criminal gang have been jailed

:00:52. > :00:54.for a total of 45 years, for their part in a conspiracy

:00:55. > :00:58.to supply class A drugs across Brighton and Hove.

:00:59. > :01:00.They were caught in an undercover police operation last summer -

:01:01. > :01:02.eight of them were in the country illegally.

:01:03. > :01:09.This was the moment the ringleader of the gang

:01:10. > :01:19.You're under arrest under suspicion of conspiracy

:01:20. > :01:24.The police investigation had gone on for months,

:01:25. > :01:26.involving around 100 officers, but finally the gang

:01:27. > :01:38.Nine Albanian men, eight of them here illegally,

:01:39. > :01:44.were jailed for dealing class A drugs on the city's streets.

:01:45. > :01:46.The impact's huge in a city like Brighton and Hove,

:01:47. > :01:51.and it's not just their offending in terms of drugs, but actually

:01:52. > :01:54.the fact that people are having to commit crime to be able

:01:55. > :02:01.They're bringing in drugs from abroad, they're

:02:02. > :02:04.sending money abroad, and it has a real negative impact.

:02:05. > :02:07.Just last year, three Albanian men were jailed for kidnapping a drug

:02:08. > :02:10.A few years earlier, father-of-two Xhem Krasniqi

:02:11. > :02:13.was shot dead in broad daylight in Hove, and another Albanian man

:02:14. > :02:16.And, in 2005, three Albanian men were given life sentences

:02:17. > :02:18.for the murder of fellow Albanian Altin Molita,

:02:19. > :02:23.who was stabbed 20 times in his car in Palmeira Square in Hove.

:02:24. > :02:26.There are small elements within it which are really giving the Albanian

:02:27. > :02:30.And I know Albanian people who live locally, who talk

:02:31. > :02:39.about this very openly, so I know people within the Albanian

:02:40. > :02:45.-- so we need to see that when people see criminality, it is

:02:46. > :02:53.reported and dealt with absolutely firmly.

:02:54. > :02:56.The Immigration Minister emphasised links between an incident in 2014

:02:57. > :03:07.and links with the Albanian community.

:03:08. > :03:11.Sussex Police are organising a number of community events with

:03:12. > :03:18.Brighton's large and peaceful Albanian population, to build trust.

:03:19. > :03:20.They also, says the force, want these gangs caught and off the

:03:21. > :03:24.streets. Our reporter Amanda Akass

:03:25. > :03:26.is live in Hove - Amanda, how big a role has this gang played

:03:27. > :03:39.in drug supply in the city? Well, Sussex Police said they were

:03:40. > :03:43.dealing a significant quantity of cocaine right here on the streets,

:03:44. > :03:45.and in raids carried out by the police across Brighton and how they

:03:46. > :03:51.seized hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of drugs, cash and

:03:52. > :03:55.vehicles belonging to the gang. They thought they could operate with

:03:56. > :03:58.they drove expensive cars and even they drove expensive cars and even

:03:59. > :04:03.brought in runners from outside the UK to help them operate, but they

:04:04. > :04:06.were caught, and the police say they hope this sends a message that they

:04:07. > :04:07.are determined to get these gangs of the streets.

:04:08. > :04:10.A retired Kent vicar is calling on the Church of england

:04:11. > :04:13.to change its policy on same sex marriage - after finding love

:04:14. > :04:16.The Reverend Phillip Clements, from Eastry near Sandwich,

:04:17. > :04:18.says he repressed his homosexuality throughout his career

:04:19. > :04:30.But next week the 78-year-old is getting married to his partner.

:04:31. > :04:32.He's spoken exclusively to our reporter Peter Whittlesea.

:04:33. > :04:36.Packing up and preparing to leave for a new life in Romania.

:04:37. > :04:40.My wardrobe is much simpler than this.

:04:41. > :04:48.Next month, Phillip and Floren are getting married.

:04:49. > :04:50.But for decades, Phillip says, as a parish priest,

:04:51. > :04:52.he repressed his feelings because of the Church of England's

:04:53. > :05:00.He' now calling on the church to allow gay clergy to get married.

:05:01. > :05:02.It's only when I retired from full-time ministry that

:05:03. > :05:08.I decided that I had to be my true self.

:05:09. > :05:10.I think it's unnatural, if you're homosexual,

:05:11. > :05:24.In February 2014, the House of Bishops decreed that clergy

:05:25. > :05:32.Civil partnerships are alone, but the couple must remain celibate.

:05:33. > :05:40.The church's position is clear that marriage is the lifelong union of

:05:41. > :05:43.one man and one woman. This is a brazen and campaigning action, where

:05:44. > :05:45.this priest is seeking to defy the church he has been part of the 50

:05:46. > :05:51.years. -- for 50 years. The couple say the

:05:52. > :06:03.relationship is about love. But they admit that the age gap

:06:04. > :06:06.of over 50 years has surprised some. All my friends know that I am

:06:07. > :06:17.attracted to older people. They have more experience in life. I

:06:18. > :06:21.came to the conclusion I must make up my own mind about my own life. I

:06:22. > :06:26.haven't got much left of it, so I might as well make the best of what

:06:27. > :06:27.I've got. And that is why he says he cannot wait to embark on married

:06:28. > :06:32.life. A doctor who decided

:06:33. > :06:34.a mother-of-three from Dartford was well enough to leave hospital,

:06:35. > :06:36.even though she was asleep when he examined her,

:06:37. > :06:39.has told an inquest into her death that he now accepts she should not

:06:40. > :06:41.have been discharged. Sian Hollands, who was 25,

:06:42. > :06:44.died of a pulmonary embolism just hours later at the Darent Valley

:06:45. > :06:50.Hospital. There's concern over an increase

:06:51. > :06:52.in the number of people being detained by Sussex Police

:06:53. > :06:55.under the Mental Health Act. A new report by the Chief Inspector

:06:56. > :06:58.of Prisons says limited access to hospital beds resulted in too

:06:59. > :07:00.many vulnerable people NHS managers say they had to deal

:07:01. > :07:05.with an unusually high number The first fixed average speed

:07:06. > :07:11.cameras in Sussex have been The cameras scan car number

:07:12. > :07:16.plates at two locations, and calculate the average time

:07:17. > :07:19.to travel between them. The aim is to cut speeding

:07:20. > :07:21.and reduce congestion. More will be activated

:07:22. > :07:27.in Hastings in May. Some of the biggest names in world

:07:28. > :07:30.motorsport gathered in Sussex today to pay their last respects

:07:31. > :07:33.to John Surtees. The only man to win world titles

:07:34. > :07:39.on motorcycles and in Formula One, he's regarded as

:07:40. > :07:41.a giant of the track - Piers Hopkirk reports

:07:42. > :07:59.from Worth Abbey, near Crawley. The stars of motorsport flew in to

:08:00. > :08:03.pay tribute to a racing hero and Pioneer.

:08:04. > :08:20.Two reels, four wheels... -- two wheels.

:08:21. > :08:22.A credit to the sport and a gentleman.

:08:23. > :08:32.More than 300 gathered at the service.

:08:33. > :08:48.John Surtees's car and racing bike was laid out as a tribute. Nobody

:08:49. > :08:55.will ever do that, I mean, nobody will ever do that again, so in that

:08:56. > :09:02.respect he is totally unique. When you saw people like that drive, you

:09:03. > :09:11.wanted to be somebody like that. I did 50 Grand Prix, but never

:09:12. > :09:17.achieved as much as John Surtees. John Surtees was a man with petrol

:09:18. > :09:22.in his veins. He won the 500 cc motorbike Championship four times in

:09:23. > :09:27.the 60s, and turn to Formula 1, winning the watch the chip with

:09:28. > :09:39.Ferrari in 1964. Even in later life, he never lost his love of racing. He

:09:40. > :09:46.was very keen to stay in touch with the modern day drivers. So today, an

:09:47. > :09:46.emotional farewell to an extraordinary man, whose remarkable

:09:47. > :09:53.records will always live on. Now let's take a look at

:09:54. > :09:56.the weather, with Georgina Burnett - quite a few of us had some sunshine

:09:57. > :10:08.today, is there any more Not necessarily for everyone

:10:09. > :10:12.tomorrow, but some of us had some sunshine, certainly some blue sky.

:10:13. > :10:16.This was captured by our Weather Watcher, so thank you very much for

:10:17. > :10:21.all the pictures from today. Tonight quite a bit of cloud around during

:10:22. > :10:26.the night, and also some grisly outbreaks of rain passing through.

:10:27. > :10:30.Fairly mild, temperatures down to about 10 Celsius. Sorry start of

:10:31. > :10:34.relatively warm tomorrow morning, quite great, some drizzle remaining

:10:35. > :10:38.but drier by the afternoon. We may have some bright perhaps even sunny

:10:39. > :10:40.spells around, but there's a fair model of cloud. Temperatures getting

:10:41. > :11:00.up to 15 or 16 though, above average for the of year. Talking of

:11:01. > :11:03.temperatures though, Thursday is the one to watch because it could be the

:11:04. > :11:04.warmest day of the year so far. We may even see temperatures reaching

:11:05. > :11:06.the low times, but fairly mild for the time

:11:07. > :11:11.of year. This stay tuned for the national weather forecasts with John

:11:12. > :11:14.Hammond. Good evening. Your parents might

:11:15. > :11:18.have told you once that life 's not fair and they were right. He is the

:11:19. > :11:21.proof. Over the next few days some of us will enjoy some lovely

:11:22. > :11:25.sunshine, temperatures in the low 20s. It will feel like early summer.

:11:26. > :11:31.For others, quite a lot of rain around and it will feel like late

:11:32. > :11:34.March. This is showers earlier on today and dampness this evening in

:11:35. > :11:38.the West Country and Wales. That is heading north eastwards. A different

:11:39. > :11:42.sort of night. A lot of cloud around, quite damp and misty in

:11:43. > :11:47.places. Cloud cover will prevent temperatures falling much at all. A

:11:48. > :11:51.much milder my than we have seen recently. Except for the North of

:11:52. > :11:53.Scotland, but elsewhere in double figures. It will be a
