:00:08. > :00:10.Calls for migrants to be moved far from Calais after fire destroys

:00:11. > :00:18.And the threat of legal action against a Kent council leader

:00:19. > :00:20.by the company wanting to re-open Manston Airport.

:00:21. > :00:27.Onfident we'll get people returned and we're confident Ukip councillors

:00:28. > :00:29.will go on and serve their communities very well indeed. Either

:00:30. > :00:30.way, these elections could be crucial in what comes next for Ukip.

:00:31. > :00:41.It is turning South East politicians have called

:00:42. > :00:44.tonight for migrants in northern France to be relocated far

:00:45. > :00:47.from the Port of Calais, after a huge fire destroyed a camp

:00:48. > :00:49.housing fifteen hundred Wooden huts were reduced to ashes

:00:50. > :00:54.after fighting between Afghan Riot police were called in and at

:00:55. > :00:59.least 10 people have been hurt. There had been concern that this

:01:00. > :01:06.camp was becoming increasingly unstable and ruled by people

:01:07. > :01:11.traffickers from The authorities had

:01:12. > :01:15.planned to shut it down. The flames might well have

:01:16. > :01:17.done that job for them. Big trouble happened

:01:18. > :01:19.with the Afghan people and Kurdish. Afghan people, first time,

:01:20. > :01:21.attacked Kurdish with a knife. Well, it is an eerie atmosphere

:01:22. > :01:34.here in the camp today. The fires are now out,

:01:35. > :01:38.but you can still smell What people used to call home is now

:01:39. > :01:47.largely reduced to ashes. The police ushered out any migrants

:01:48. > :01:49.who turned up today. Hundreds of migrants have been

:01:50. > :02:05.given temporary shelter But charities are warning many have

:02:06. > :02:10.already vanished heading to Calais. What they were doing

:02:11. > :02:14.here which was trying Do you think it's

:02:15. > :02:20.going to get worse? You know, I mean, it

:02:21. > :02:24.was bad here anyway. The closure of the Calais Jungle

:02:25. > :02:27.camp last October caused the numbers In February, we discovered migrants

:02:28. > :02:32.from Dunkirk were making nightly attempts to smuggle themselves

:02:33. > :02:34.into Kent using public And last month, five migrants

:02:35. > :02:44.were injured in clashes at Dunkirk. What this does is it puts more

:02:45. > :02:48.than 1,000 migrants, all of them desperate,

:02:49. > :02:51.on the streets, around That means danger

:02:52. > :02:55.for our lorry drivers. The French authorities

:02:56. > :02:59.say they are now trying to persuade the migrants to go

:03:00. > :03:01.to secure shelters. We need to round them

:03:02. > :03:06.up and take them back I think it is in the interests

:03:07. > :03:12.of Dover and Calais that we work together to ensure

:03:13. > :03:15.that the Dover-Calais trade route And charities point out

:03:16. > :03:19.that the people who lived here have Lawyers for RiverOak,

:03:20. > :03:28.the company hoping to re-open Manston Airport in East Kent,

:03:29. > :03:30.are threatening legal action against the leader

:03:31. > :03:35.of Thanet District Council, It follows an e-mail that he sent

:03:36. > :03:43.to fellow councillors, claiming that Belize,

:03:44. > :03:44.where one of RiverOak's key investors is based,

:03:45. > :03:46.is a "major money-laundering country", whose currency

:03:47. > :03:48.transactions involve proceeds from international narcotics

:03:49. > :03:49.traffickingand saying that Belize is a shipment point

:03:50. > :03:51.for marijuana and cocaine, Campaigners fighting to revive

:03:52. > :04:03.the airport have reacted angrily. A most extraordinary implication

:04:04. > :04:05.to make about a perfectly respectable organisation which has

:04:06. > :04:07.been trying very hard for several Peter Whittlesea joins

:04:08. > :04:16.me now in the studio. Peter, what more has

:04:17. > :04:25.RiverOakhad to say today? RiverOak said they gave Chris Wells

:04:26. > :04:31.a deadline until 5pm this evening to respond to their demands or legal

:04:32. > :04:34.remedies. They say he hasn't made a substantive response, but asked for

:04:35. > :04:37.extra time. It is intriguing what will happen next because I

:04:38. > :04:41.understand this is a personal claim against him, not the council. So the

:04:42. > :04:48.question is whether he has enough money to defend those claims he

:04:49. > :04:51.made. But his political opponents are already saying if he doesn't

:04:52. > :04:56.defend them, he will become a lame duck leader of the council because

:04:57. > :04:58.he won't be able to vote on issues relating to Man ston which is one of

:04:59. > :05:04.the biggest infrastructure projects in the area. Peter, thank you.

:05:05. > :05:06.The long-awaited decision on the location of a new lower

:05:07. > :05:08.Thames Crossing is set to be announced tomorrow.

:05:09. > :05:10.Highways England has been recommending a new tunnel east

:05:11. > :05:13.of Gravesend to relieve pressure on the M25, but ministers have also

:05:14. > :05:15.been considering another crossing at Dartford.

:05:16. > :05:17.The decision follows the largest ever public consultation

:05:18. > :05:23.BBC South East Today will have the latest

:05:24. > :05:31.on the preferred route and speaking to some of those affected.

:05:32. > :05:34.There are just over three weeks to go until polling in county

:05:35. > :05:41.Today the Ukip leader, Paul Nuttall, said he is expecting these elections

:05:42. > :05:44.to be the "most difficult" the party will face before 2020.

:05:45. > :05:46.In 2009, there were no Ukip councillors elected

:05:47. > :05:50.But four years later, the party won a total of 37

:05:51. > :05:53.county council seats - enough to make it the second largest

:05:54. > :05:54.party and official opposition to the Conservatives

:05:55. > :05:59.on Kent County Council and West Sussex County Council.

:06:00. > :06:03.Our Political Editor Helen Catt is in Cliftonville near Margate.

:06:04. > :06:14.Helen, Thanet is something of a stronghold for Ukip?

:06:15. > :06:21.Yes, back in 2013 Ukip won seven of the eight available county council

:06:22. > :06:25.seats in Thanet. It was also where Nigel Farage chose to make his

:06:26. > :06:30.failed bid to become an MP. No real surprise then that it was here that

:06:31. > :06:34.Paul NUTTal, the current leader decide to rally his Kent troops

:06:35. > :06:38.ahead of the elections. This area, he told them, is the heart of Ukip.

:06:39. > :06:42.I caught up with him earlier when he was out on the campaign trail.

:06:43. > :06:44.It was a quieter affair than some former Ukip leaders visits.

:06:45. > :06:47.Paul Nuttall on his first trip to Thanet chose Broadstairs to sell

:06:48. > :06:53.the party's campaign policies one on one.

:06:54. > :06:56.I will represent the community over party all the time and put

:06:57. > :07:00.We're opposed to any sort of building on green belt

:07:01. > :07:03.The South East has a huge problem with the number

:07:04. > :07:06.of people in the South East, but we need to keep Ukip

:07:07. > :07:10.on the pitch because Ukip is the guard dogs of Brexit.

:07:11. > :07:12.Ukip gained almost 40 seats across Kent, Sussex

:07:13. > :07:19.It went on to win the European elections the year after,

:07:20. > :07:24.two by-elections and take control of Thanet District Council.

:07:25. > :07:27.But in recent months several high-profile members have quit

:07:28. > :07:29.raising questions over the party's future relevance.

:07:30. > :07:35.I'm leaving positively having achieved our joint objective

:07:36. > :07:37.of winning a vote to get out of the European Union.

:07:38. > :07:41.On the doorstep this morning, a vote of confidence.

:07:42. > :07:45.Ukip did help to get us out of the EU, but there

:07:46. > :07:48.is still lots of other things that Ukip can do to help

:07:49. > :07:52.So you think there is still a role for them?

:07:53. > :07:58.I think they have achieved what they were set out

:07:59. > :08:01.to and I haven't heard of anything else that they're

:08:02. > :08:08.I don't think they are as relevant as they were two

:08:09. > :08:13.There are other things happening in the world at the moment.

:08:14. > :08:15.If people stick to their guns and say we will stick

:08:16. > :08:18.to them no matter what, they should be all right.

:08:19. > :08:20.These will be the most difficult local elections

:08:21. > :08:28.We know exactly where we stand on this, but we're confident we'll

:08:29. > :08:29.get people returned and we're confident Ukip councillors

:08:30. > :08:33.will go on and serve their communities very well indeed.

:08:34. > :08:40.Either way, these elections could be crucial in what comes next for Ukip.

:08:41. > :08:44.Uttall, the current leader decide to rally

:08:45. > :08:49.The message from Paul Nuttall to members here was very much hold your

:08:50. > :08:53.nerve. The challenge for him and Ukip is to communicate those two

:08:54. > :08:59.things that he has been saying. Firstly he wants to make Theresa May

:09:00. > :09:05.walk the walk on Brexit, but Ukip is no longer a single issue policy, it

:09:06. > :09:12.has policies on transport that he wants to convey. It has the main

:09:13. > :09:16.opposition in west Sussex and has seats elsewhere as well? They have

:09:17. > :09:19.seats in each of our counties and west Sussex they are the official

:09:20. > :09:23.opposition and hold ten seats there of the that's an area to watch for

:09:24. > :09:26.them too. We will, of course, be speaking to Labour and the Liberal

:09:27. > :09:29.Democrats and the Conservatives over the course of the next three weeks.

:09:30. > :09:32.You can find a full list of all candidates standing in the county

:09:33. > :09:39.council elections on the county council websites. Helen, thank you.

:09:40. > :09:41.Gatwick Airport says its policy on disruptive passengers is working

:09:42. > :09:43.with fewer incidents reported in 2016, compared

:09:44. > :09:46.It comes after a Parliamentary report said the sale of alcohol

:09:47. > :09:48.to holidaymakers jetting off on early-morning flights

:09:49. > :09:50.should be restricted because of an increase in rowdy

:09:51. > :09:59.Tomorrow morning on BBC Sussex, Neil Pringle will be hearing

:10:00. > :10:03.from the mother of a Brighton toddler with facial disfigurement

:10:04. > :10:06.who has just won a modelling contract with an online

:10:07. > :10:10.Now let s take a look at what's happening with the weather

:10:11. > :10:12.for the next few days with Nina Ridge.

:10:13. > :10:22.Not too bad. Similar to what we had today. We've got clear skies so

:10:23. > :10:25.turning chilly, but for tomorrow, dry, bright and the best of the

:10:26. > :10:29.sunshine during the morning. It will turn more overcast later on in the

:10:30. > :10:34.day. But through the night tonight, we have got the well broken cloud.

:10:35. > :10:38.Temperatures down to to or three Celsius. A cool feeling morning with

:10:39. > :10:41.that sunshine. As that weather front approaches from the north, the cloud

:10:42. > :10:45.will thicken up for the afternoon and it brings with it the very small

:10:46. > :10:50.chance of a late afternoon shower, but most places will stay dry and

:10:51. > :10:56.we're looking at highs similar today's values, 15 Celsius to 16

:10:57. > :10:59.Celsius inland and 12 to 13 Celsius around the coast. Thursday looks

:11:00. > :11:02.like being dry, bright with sunshine. If we take a look a the

:11:03. > :11:03.outlook and I will hand you over On Sunday, on the cool side for East

:11:04. > :11:24.itself. Good evening. Grace of all it -- it

:11:25. > :11:29.is greatest of all in Scotland. A weather front is on the move. The

:11:30. > :11:32.rain edging down into south-western
