:00:00. > :00:00.That's it from us. They will be continuing coverage throughout the

:00:00. > :00:00.night Today's main headlines

:00:00. > :00:00.in the South East... Mr Farage won't stand

:00:07. > :00:11.in the general election. We're live in Ramsgate

:00:12. > :00:17.with the details. And the footage released

:00:18. > :00:19.by a desperate mother who can't cope She says they're being let

:00:20. > :00:28.down by the system. And it was a frosty start for some

:00:29. > :00:41.of us, but more clout is building. We learnt tonight that

:00:42. > :00:44.Nigel Farage won't be standing The South East MEP and former Ukip

:00:45. > :00:50.leader had suggested he might stand again as a candidate

:00:51. > :00:53.in the South Thanet constituency - a seat he failed

:00:54. > :00:55.to win two years ago. He now says won't try to become

:00:56. > :00:58.a Member of Parliament anywhere - he's going to focus on his role

:00:59. > :01:00.in Europe instead. Jessica Banham's report contains

:01:01. > :01:07.some flashing images. It is scenes like these

:01:08. > :01:10.that we will not be seening When Nigel Farage stood

:01:11. > :01:14.in South Thanet two years ago, the constituency came under

:01:15. > :01:15.the spotlight during Tonight on his radio show,

:01:16. > :01:20.he explained why he would rather focus on his role as an MEP

:01:21. > :01:24.this time round. I have done it because I genuinely

:01:25. > :01:27.think I can do more for Brexit leading a group

:01:28. > :01:29.in the European Parliament than I can as a backbench

:01:30. > :01:32.MP who probably would Mr Farage has failed to get elected

:01:33. > :01:37.to Parliament seven times. His first attempt was

:01:38. > :01:41.in 1994 when he stood It was in 2001 that he was

:01:42. > :01:47.a candidate for the first time in the South East,

:01:48. > :01:49.in Bebexhill and Battle. On his second attempt

:01:50. > :01:52.in South Thanet in 2015, he narrowly lost to the Conservative,

:01:53. > :01:55.Craig McKinley. Farage made a difference

:01:56. > :01:58.in the South Thanet last time, and certainly his name recognition

:01:59. > :02:02.allowed Ukip to run the Tories I think it is going to be

:02:03. > :02:08.a much more difficult seat for Ukip this time round,

:02:09. > :02:10.and I think the Conservatives will certainly be much

:02:11. > :02:13.happier this evening. Mr Farage says he will continue

:02:14. > :02:16.to support his Ukip colleagues, but the party will now need

:02:17. > :02:20.to decide who will wear its colours Jessica Banham, BBC

:02:21. > :02:25.South East Today. Chrissie Reidy is in

:02:26. > :02:28.Ramsgate for us now. So, what's the reaction

:02:29. > :02:42.there, Chrissie? Just a few moments ago, one person

:02:43. > :02:45.here said they think Nigel Farage is far more effective outside

:02:46. > :02:51.Westminster than in. Others have said they think it is the right

:02:52. > :02:56.decision. If you does not want to stand, it is wise that he is not

:02:57. > :03:00.here. But I have to do say that if he had, Ukip would have had a good

:03:01. > :03:04.chance of winning. I am not surprised at all. I think he has run

:03:05. > :03:11.his course. I think he thinks so as well. He what he wanted to do was

:03:12. > :03:17.get the Brexit vote, which he got. Of course, he may not have won here

:03:18. > :03:20.two years ago, but his presence is guaranteed massive courage. Early

:03:21. > :03:29.this evening, we spoke to the format you keep -- Ukip leader. It was

:03:30. > :03:35.right for Nigel Farage to focus on Brussels, he said. Probably worth

:03:36. > :03:40.mentioning that Nigel Farage will be visiting Thanet, but we understand

:03:41. > :03:41.it is due early for a social event. Thank you, Chrissie.

:03:42. > :03:44.The mother of an 11-year-old boy with violent behavioural problems

:03:45. > :03:46.says her family is in crisis, after his school said

:03:47. > :03:49.he is too disruptive, and must be taught at home instead.

:03:50. > :03:51.Holly Batten, from Sedlescombe, says she's desperate for help

:03:52. > :03:54.with her son Rupert who has Asperger's syndrome.

:03:55. > :03:57.The family have given us video footage of him when he loses control

:03:58. > :04:00.to explain how difficult it is for them to cope.

:04:01. > :04:02.Our education correspondent Bryony Mackenzie has

:04:03. > :04:11.Rupert's mother Holly has released this footage to show how

:04:12. > :04:17.children with Asperger's can become anxious and physically violent.

:04:18. > :04:20.Rupert ended up right on the top gable of the roof and we had

:04:21. > :04:25.to call the fire brigade round to help him down.

:04:26. > :04:28.He just had a really bad experience where he was really,

:04:29. > :04:31.Rupert's behaviour, as a result of his Asperger's,

:04:32. > :04:35.means he is now not allowed back to his special needs school.

:04:36. > :04:41.Despite East Sussex County Council funding ?40,000 for his place there,

:04:42. > :04:45.he is now being offered minimal home tuition.

:04:46. > :04:49.I do not believe that one hour a day at home is a suitable

:04:50. > :04:57.Rupert needs to be in a provision that can meet his needs,

:04:58. > :05:00.and just having one teacher turn up for an hour a day is

:05:01. > :05:10.The hurry urges get out of control and become monsters in our minds.

:05:11. > :05:15.Highly intelligent, Rupert himself is aware of his own challenges.

:05:16. > :05:26.I do not know why, I just felt different.

:05:27. > :05:30.So you would like to go to a school where you feel happy?

:05:31. > :05:36.The family want Rupert taken off the school roll and a place,

:05:37. > :05:39.instead, funded at a school in Hampshire, but it

:05:40. > :05:44.East Sussex County Council says they always consider a parent's

:05:45. > :05:47.preferred option for their child, but have to consider how this can be

:05:48. > :05:51.achieved with efficient use of taxpayers' money.

:05:52. > :05:57.They say they are consulting with other education providers.

:05:58. > :05:59.Lots of parents out there are struggling,

:06:00. > :06:02.and what we are seeing is a lack of provision locally to deal

:06:03. > :06:05.with the full spectrum of needs that comes with autism.

:06:06. > :06:08.Tonight, the school says they will give Rupert

:06:09. > :06:11.2.5-hours-a-day tutoring at home and help find a permanent solution.

:06:12. > :06:14.We are a family in crisis, definitely.

:06:15. > :06:20.And at the end of the day, Rupert is the child stuck

:06:21. > :06:22.in the middle at home with no education.

:06:23. > :06:27.Bryony Mackenzie, BBC South East Today, Sedlescombe.

:06:28. > :06:30.The number of rapes reported to Kent and Sussex Police forces last

:06:31. > :06:33.year have nearly tripled in the last four years.

:06:34. > :06:35.Figures show that in 2012, just under 1000 reports of rapes

:06:36. > :06:46.Last year, that number shot up to nearly 25000,

:06:47. > :06:50.The Kent Police and Crime Commissioner says he still wants

:06:51. > :06:51.to encourage people to report the crime.

:06:52. > :06:54.It is a very gruelling process that can take well over a year,

:06:55. > :06:56.sometimes two years, to get from reporting

:06:57. > :06:59.through to court, and sometimes, because of that, victims choose not

:07:00. > :07:07.But my concern is that people are aware that they can come

:07:08. > :07:10.Brighton and Hove Albion's promotion to the Premier League will be

:07:11. > :07:12.celebrated with an open-top bus tour through the city.

:07:13. > :07:14.The council has announced it will take place

:07:15. > :07:17.The Seagulls' achievement caps a remarkable turnaround

:07:18. > :07:20.for the club, which almost went out of business 20 years ago

:07:21. > :07:22.and spent more than a decade without its own ground.

:07:23. > :07:28.Scenes at the Amex this week when the Seagulls booked their place

:07:29. > :07:33.Now heads have cleared, the party will soon begin again,

:07:34. > :07:36.because Brighton and Hove Albion are being honoured with an open-top

:07:37. > :07:41.It is the tradition for teams winning trophies or getting

:07:42. > :07:46.promoted, and hopefully the Albion will have the Championship Trophy

:07:47. > :07:49.to show off, one more win to win the title.

:07:50. > :07:52.Playing in what is arguably the world's biggest domestic

:07:53. > :07:57.football competition will bring a cash windfall of around

:07:58. > :08:02.In Brighton and Hove, people are delighted

:08:03. > :08:05.the players are being honoured on and off the pitch.

:08:06. > :08:12.It is wonderful they have been promoted, and I am glad the city

:08:13. > :08:20.These were the scenes in Brighton when the team won promotion

:08:21. > :08:27.This was the reception in 2004, and the crowds were just

:08:28. > :08:30.as big seven years later following promotion

:08:31. > :08:38.One person who will definitely be at the parade will be Dot Purvis,

:08:39. > :08:40.who has followed the Albion right around the country.

:08:41. > :08:47.Yeah, nobody wanted to come, so I went.

:08:48. > :08:53.At today's press conference at Lancing, I asked Chris Hughton

:08:54. > :08:56.if he had walked through the city of Brighton since Monday.

:08:57. > :09:01.My normal routines are very much training ground based and home -

:09:02. > :09:08.But at some stage I will, but I am very conscious

:09:09. > :09:13.of the excitement out there and what it means to the city.

:09:14. > :09:17.So, Chris Hughton and his players will get their chance to say thank

:09:18. > :09:20.you to the city of Brighton, and the best bit is you have

:09:21. > :09:38.You have the national weather in a moment. Now for the local weather.

:09:39. > :09:47.It was very chilly today. But tonight, we are going to see more

:09:48. > :09:50.cloud around and as that builds, we will see temperatures held up. It

:09:51. > :09:56.will not be as cold night, and we may see light and scattered showers.

:09:57. > :10:00.Friday morning, we are looking at eight, nine Celsius. A touch my

:10:01. > :10:05.older around the coast. Temperatures may stay in double figures. There

:10:06. > :10:07.will be a fair amount of cloud, but we may see bright spells coming and

:10:08. > :10:11.going, small chance of an afternoon going, small chance of an afternoon

:10:12. > :10:18.shower, but most places will miss them and stay dry. Lighter winds

:10:19. > :10:22.today, so temperatures should reach 14 Celsius, so it should feel

:10:23. > :10:28.milder. A week weather front is moving its way down and it may bring

:10:29. > :10:31.more overcast skies on Saturday with patchy and light rain, but for many

:10:32. > :10:37.places, we would like more than that. It will not be very

:10:38. > :10:42.significant, it will come and go. Plenty of cloud to the day. Called

:10:43. > :10:48.north-easterly breeze. To the evening, some will finish on a

:10:49. > :10:51.brighter note. The clear skies are because our high pressure is

:10:52. > :11:01.building in, and on Sunday, we will have another school -- cold start to

:11:02. > :11:02.the day. Take a look at the forecast and the outlook coming you can see

:11:03. > :11:06.it week for much of the UK and for more

:11:07. > :11:11.about that and the UK outlook, Helen Willetts.

:11:12. > :11:17.The sunshine make such a difference this time of year, only 12 or so

:11:18. > :11:22.degrees under the cloud today but 19 in eastern Scotland not far away

:11:23. > :11:26.from St Andrews. Also in north-east England, where we had the majority

:11:27. > :11:28.of the decent sunshine. Even under cloud it was
