:01:03. > :01:04.of scrap metal caught fire just Part of the A27 had to be

:01:05. > :01:08.closed Our environment correspondent, Yvette Austin,

:01:09. > :01:10.is at the Light Brothers Yvette, why did the fire

:01:11. > :01:20.cause so much smoke? You are right about the amount of

:01:21. > :01:22.smoke. It was a huge plume that could be seen for miles. People were

:01:23. > :01:29.told to keep their doors and windows told to keep their doors and windows

:01:30. > :01:33.closed and the A27 was closed. One of the things they do here is

:01:34. > :01:37.recycle electrical goods, things like vacuum cleaners, microwaves and

:01:38. > :01:43.toasters. So there are things like plastic, rubber and metal and the

:01:44. > :01:44.pile where the fire was was about ten metres high, said that's what

:01:45. > :01:48.caused the smoke. An enormous quantity to be pulled

:01:49. > :01:53.out, damped down and moved off, so that's why it's taking so long

:01:54. > :01:55.and that's why there Do we have any idea

:01:56. > :02:10.of what the cause of It's to early to say yet. The

:02:27. > :02:30.is so much burnt material to go through and the Environment Agency

:02:31. > :02:35.will probably carry out an investigation. This is a registered

:02:36. > :02:39.waste site so there will be rules and regulations they have too abide

:02:40. > :02:41.by and the Environment Agency will want to make sure that it was doing

:02:42. > :02:43.everything it should. From today Ministry

:02:46. > :02:47.of on-going increased security following the attack

:02:54. > :02:58.at critical and members of the public are asked

:02:59. > :03:03.to remain alert. There has been disruption

:03:04. > :03:05.for thousands of passengers at Gatwick Airport this morning

:03:06. > :03:08.with some flights departing without luggage due to problems

:03:09. > :03:11.with the baggage handling system. It's one of the busiest days

:03:12. > :03:14.for the airport with people trying to get away for the bank holiday

:03:15. > :03:17.and school half term. Our reporter Jon Hunt

:03:18. > :03:20.is outside the airport Jon, what exactly

:03:21. > :03:35.happened this morning? Well, it was a breakdown of the

:03:36. > :03:39.baggage conveyor sorting system. Around 430 AM this morning, this is

:03:40. > :03:43.the system that sends your suitcases from the check-in gate where the

:03:44. > :03:47.aircraft is part. It was affecting both terminal so many airlines were

:03:48. > :03:51.affected but EasyJet passengers were worst hit. The problem meant that

:03:52. > :03:56.bags could not be processed in time for some of the flights and bags

:03:57. > :04:01.started accumulating in the terminal areas. There were long queues for

:04:02. > :04:05.passengers as well. The airport says 3000 bags did not make their flights

:04:06. > :04:07.so thousands of holiday-makers and business goers are arriving at their

:04:08. > :04:15.destination without their belongings today. Have the problem been

:04:16. > :04:19.resolved? Well, Gatwick Airport says the problem was resolved at 9am this

:04:20. > :04:23.morning. They would not let our cameras into the airport but I was

:04:24. > :04:25.able to get in and speak to passengers and they were

:04:26. > :04:30.encountering difficulties that 11am this morning. Claire Fox is 31 weeks

:04:31. > :04:35.pregnant, travelling with two children to Greece for a week, they

:04:36. > :04:38.were at the airport at 4am and she says the queue was out of the door.

:04:39. > :04:44.It took them an hour and a half to get through check in and security

:04:45. > :04:48.was round. They got to the gate and the plane had left without them.

:04:49. > :04:53.They were still looking for their bags at 11am this morning. Jamie

:04:54. > :04:57.Hall from Manchester had been training since January for a

:04:58. > :05:01.sporting competition, a world sporting competition. He says that

:05:02. > :05:06.his flight was mist as well and all that training is down the pan.

:05:07. > :05:10.Gatwick has apologised and said it is working with its partners to

:05:11. > :05:12.forward on bags to passengers who do not have them today.

:05:13. > :05:14.With record temperatures predicted for this weekend,

:05:15. > :05:16.there's a warning that popular routes in the South East,

:05:17. > :05:18.like parts of the M25, could take four times

:05:19. > :05:22.More than 15 million cars are expected on the UK's roads over

:05:23. > :05:25.the bank holiday with this afternoon expected to be the busiest period.

:05:26. > :05:28.But there is some good news - Highways England say they've lifted

:05:29. > :05:31.80 miles of roadworks in the South East to

:05:32. > :05:36.And, stay with us for a full weather forecast for the Bank Holiday

:05:37. > :05:42.Margate's Dreamland will re-open this weekend after a multi-million

:05:43. > :05:45.pound revamp including new rides and a music stage.

:05:46. > :05:48.The amusement park was placed in administration less than a year

:05:49. > :05:53.after its re-launch in June 2015 but has since received ?25 million

:05:54. > :05:58.Vintage dodgems and teacups have been added to the ride

:05:59. > :06:02.line-up and they'll also be some live events.

:06:03. > :06:04.What happened subsequent to the opening in 2015 was we had

:06:05. > :06:09.a good range of rides at the park but the financing wasn't quite

:06:10. > :06:13.there to make the overall park, the look and feel of the place

:06:14. > :06:16.and the reliability of the rides and quality of the food quite

:06:17. > :06:20.what it needed to be to give people that great day out and for them

:06:21. > :06:23.to want to come back again and to bring their friends down

:06:24. > :06:25.again, so that's what we've been doing.

:07:29. > :07:31.They are likely to push through tomorrow morning and some

:07:32. > :07:34.of them could turn out to be heavy and even thundery but some places
