:00:37. > :00:41.Just after 7am, prison officers gathered outside the Lewes Prison

:00:42. > :00:43.while specialist officers entered the jail.

:00:44. > :00:46.They were there to restore order after what was described as a

:00:47. > :00:49.serious disturbance, which apparently began

:00:50. > :00:52.when staff tried to put prisoners back into their cdlls

:00:53. > :00:55.Those prisoners refused to go away and started showing violent and

:00:56. > :00:57.Staff felt under fear, so they retreated

:00:58. > :00:59.to a place of safety and

:01:00. > :01:01.then, once the wing was evacuated of staff,

:01:02. > :01:06.the prisoners went on the

:01:07. > :01:08.rampage and started to destroy offices and furniture, and some

:01:09. > :01:10.prisoners that were locked behind the cells started

:01:11. > :01:14.Over the past two years, safety concerns about

:01:15. > :01:17.Lewes Prison have been raisdd by both prisoners and prison staff.

:01:18. > :01:34.I have never, ever known Lewes Prison to be rocky.

:01:35. > :01:38.The causes of yesterday's vholence are not yet known.

:01:39. > :01:40.The prison will be on a restricted regime today and families

:01:41. > :01:43.have already been on social media saying their visits have

:01:44. > :01:48.You can see the contractors' vehicles behind me.

:01:49. > :01:50.They've been brought in, I'm told, to move

:01:51. > :01:53.incident to other prisons around the UK.

:01:54. > :01:55.The Ministry of Justice told us that prisoners involved would

:01:56. > :01:58.On Wednesday of this week, the Prison Officers Association will

:01:59. > :02:01.take action across the country to highlight their concerns about

:02:02. > :02:08.An investigation is underwax following a suspicious fire

:02:50. > :02:56.As pressure mounts on the Government to take more child

:03:27. > :03:30.courage, really, from counchls across this country to make sure

:03:31. > :03:34.that we are stepping up to the plate to help people who are absolutely

:03:35. > :03:38.A three-month public consultation into the future of university

:03:39. > :03:40.provision in Hastings draws to a close today.

:03:41. > :03:43.It's proposed that a new Unhversity Centre would replace the Unhversity

:03:44. > :03:48.of Brighton's Hastings campts over the next three to four years.

:03:49. > :03:51.Bosses plan to close the current Hastings campus due to what they say
