:00:10. > :00:11.Hello, I'm Anjana Gadgil with the news here in the South.

:00:12. > :00:13.17 people were taken to hospital this morning

:00:14. > :00:20.on a motorway slip road in Oxfordshire.

:00:21. > :00:23.It happened on the northbound exit at Junction 7 of the M40,

:00:24. > :00:26.Thick fog made access to the scene more difficult,

:00:27. > :00:29.and the slip road itself was closed for several hours.

:00:30. > :00:34.Passengers escaped in such a hurry they left their belongings behind.

:00:35. > :00:38.16 adults plus the coach driver were taken

:00:39. > :00:41.to the John Radcliffe Hospital after last night's crash.

:00:42. > :00:43.We had to stabilise the coach to prevent it sliding down the bank

:00:44. > :00:46.any further and from rocking from side to side,

:00:47. > :00:49.to make sure that the rescue operation was safe.

:00:50. > :00:53.Then we had to search the immediate area for anybody that may have been

:00:54. > :00:57.ejected from the vehicle, so we used thermal imaging cameras,

:00:58. > :01:00.we used some of our remote cameras we have there,

:01:01. > :01:02.we had a period of using audible detection,

:01:03. > :01:05.so we needed a certain amount of silence.

:01:06. > :01:13.when the Heathrow Express bus came off the M40 here at junction seven.

:01:14. > :01:16.It went crashing through the barriers and flipped.

:01:17. > :01:19.Certainly it would have been a chaotic scene.

:01:20. > :01:21.You've got people inside who are probably wanting to get out

:01:22. > :01:25.Also their medical welfare needs to be taken into account,

:01:26. > :01:26.and sometimes getting them out quickly

:01:27. > :01:28.isn't necessarily the best thing for them.

:01:29. > :01:34.Two things that we are looking into, obviously keeping an open mind,

:01:35. > :01:37.but the two main things are very foggy at the time and the driving

:01:38. > :01:40.conditions and the fact that the bus wouldn't normally be leaving

:01:41. > :01:44.It's not the first time a coach has veered off

:01:45. > :01:51.This on-board footage from 2010 shows the moment

:01:52. > :01:54.when an Oxford Tube bus crashed at the very same slip road.

:01:55. > :02:07.The slip road was closed while barriers were prepared here today.

:02:08. > :02:10.The Oxford Bus Company has been contacting passengers this afternoon

:02:11. > :02:12.and as foggy conditions remain, investigations are continuing

:02:13. > :02:23.to try to work out how this crash happened.

:02:24. > :02:29.The fog has caused trouble problems across the region. Full visibility

:02:30. > :02:38.on the coast affected ferry crossings. This view from Poole Bay

:02:39. > :02:43.was typical. There have been delays and cancellations on flights at

:02:44. > :02:46.Gatwick -- Gatwick, Heathrow and Southampton airports.

:02:47. > :02:48.Meanwhile, Southern Rail is warning of severe disruption

:02:49. > :02:51.as conductors stage another three-day strike.

:02:52. > :02:54.The company says some routes will have no service

:02:55. > :02:57.at all tomorrow, New Year's Day and Monday the 2nd -

:02:58. > :03:00.while the majority of others will have a very limited service.

:03:01. > :03:03.It is the biggest night out of the year but many people

:03:04. > :03:05.are going to struggle to get home afterwards,

:03:06. > :03:08.as the Southern strikes roll on into their 28th day.

:03:09. > :03:10.The RMT insist they are not trying to disrupt

:03:11. > :03:15.We did cancel the strikes on Christmas Eve

:03:16. > :03:17.and the day before, you'll recollect.

:03:18. > :03:20.We've done everything we can to recognise that the public have

:03:21. > :03:22.been wonderful in supporting our position on maintaining

:03:23. > :03:27.the safety-critical role of the guard on the train.

:03:28. > :03:29.Once again Southern say they will have to cancel

:03:30. > :03:31.around 50% of trains due to the strike.

:03:32. > :03:37.Crucially, though, they are warning anyone who is planning

:03:38. > :03:40.to use the trains to get home after a New Year's night out that

:03:41. > :03:43.many later services, in particular, will be completely cancelled.

:03:44. > :03:45.The conductors are striking over plans to give drivers responsibility

:03:46. > :03:51.changing the conductors' roles to that of an on-board supervisor.

:03:52. > :03:56.Southern said 220 conductors have signed up to the new contract

:03:57. > :03:59.and many will begin their new roles from the 1st of January.

:04:00. > :04:01.The proposals we have made are entirely reasonable.

:04:02. > :04:04.We think the union's reaction has been unreasonable

:04:05. > :04:07.We think these strikes are absolutely unnecessary

:04:08. > :04:10.and I would call upon the trade unions to call off these strikes

:04:11. > :04:15.A six-day drivers' strike is planned from January the 9th

:04:16. > :04:17.and the unions say they can't rule out further action

:04:18. > :04:32.for 2017 if an agreement isn't reached.

:04:33. > :04:42.In the championship, the game between Brighton and Reading was

:04:43. > :04:48.called off due to foggy conditions. In League 1, MK Dons twice held off

:04:49. > :04:54.a Swindon town comeback to win 3-2 and in League 2, Portsmouth played

:04:55. > :04:57.out a goalless draw in the fog at Yeovil. Christmas lights display and

:04:58. > :05:02.a Buckinghamshire village has helped raise money for a girl with a rare

:05:03. > :05:06.disorder. Frankie Ross has a syndrome which affects one in every

:05:07. > :05:14.10,000 girls. More than ?1300 is going towards health care for her.

:05:15. > :05:16.Now here is your regional weather forecast from Dan Downs.

:05:17. > :05:20.It's generally cloudy to end the year, but for most

:05:21. > :05:22.of us, it should be dry for the New Year's festivities.

:05:23. > :05:25.As we can see, there's a cold front pushing down across the country

:05:26. > :05:28.through New Year's Eve into New Year's Day but I think,

:05:29. > :05:31.for most of us, it will stay dry until at least the small hours

:05:32. > :05:34.Behind it, high pressure becomes more dominant again,

:05:35. > :05:38.keeping things dry and settled but rather cold.

:05:39. > :05:41.Tonight, we've still got some issues with fog and there is

:05:42. > :05:43.a yellow weather warning in force from the Met Office

:05:44. > :05:45.right through until ten o'clock tomorrow morning.

:05:46. > :05:48.More cloud around tonight than last night, but temperatures not always

:05:49. > :05:55.But we will see a touch of frost in places along with that fog

:05:56. > :06:01.More some breaks in it, though, at times, and foremost, it stay dry.

:06:02. > :06:05.Temperatures just about creeping into double figures for some.

:06:06. > :06:09.Into the evening, staying cloudy but, I suspect, dry for most.

:06:10. > :06:18.That rain comes through earlier on New Year's Day and when it

:06:19. > :06:34.That's all from us for this evening. Have a happy New Year. Goodbye.

:06:35. > :06:41.Good evening. Looking ahead to 2017 it looks like we will start off on a

:06:42. > :06:46.cold note. This weather front will move south in the next day or so

:06:47. > :06:50.bringing rain with it, but also much colder air following a lull behind.

:06:51. > :06:56.It will sweep the fog away. It's grey for some places this afternoon.

:06:57. > :07:02.You could hardly see across the river in the Greater London area.

:07:03. > :07:03.Met Office warnings are in force. Stay tuned to BBC
