:00:41. > :00:43.to tackle organised drug dealing in Oxfordshire.

:00:44. > :00:46.In a series of dawn raids, officers targeted almost 40 homes in Oxford,

:00:47. > :00:54.Organised policing tackling organised crime.

:00:55. > :01:01.This Oxford address is one of 37 raided by Thames Valley Police

:01:02. > :01:02.in Oxford, Abingdon and London this morning.

:01:03. > :01:05.180 officers were involved in what the force is calling

:01:06. > :01:14.The start of a campaign to stop the flow of Class A drugs

:01:15. > :01:24.We've made some really good arrests today.

:01:25. > :01:26.That'll have a disruption impact on the people

:01:27. > :01:29.One of the things we'll look at is working with partners

:01:30. > :01:36.We want to target key locations in future that we know these

:01:37. > :01:41.We want to make it very difficult for them to come back.

:01:42. > :01:43.Detectives say gangs from the capital come to the county

:01:44. > :01:49.These locations, the police say, are often the homes

:01:50. > :01:54.We have criminals that often operates through

:01:55. > :02:02.runners out into the counties, dealing drugs in our area.

:02:03. > :02:09.These operations are very organised and they target vulnerable people,

:02:10. > :02:11.probably the most honourable people in our communities.

:02:12. > :02:16.An obviously a real threat to local policing of the area.

:02:17. > :02:19.Police are continuing to patrol in the areas where the raids took

:02:20. > :02:21.place this morning in an effort to reassure the public.

:02:22. > :02:24.The force says there will be similar operations in the future to stop

:02:25. > :02:31.drugs gangs operating in the Thames Valley.

:02:32. > :02:34.A motorist from Oxford has admitted he was using his mobile phone

:02:35. > :02:37.when he caused a fatal crash on the A34.

:02:38. > :02:39.Lewis Stratford veered across the central reservation

:02:40. > :02:41.near East Ilsley last summer killing 28-year old Gavin

:02:42. > :02:45.He's pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

:02:46. > :02:57.It was late in the evening of Saturday 11th of June

:02:58. > :02:59.when Lewis Stratford seen here entering court today

:03:00. > :03:01.was going southbound on the A34 near East Ilsley.

:03:02. > :03:04.Over a 35-minute period, he was said to be speeding

:03:05. > :03:08.and to have made three emotional phone calls.

:03:09. > :03:14.It was on the third of these that he lost control of his car

:03:15. > :03:16.and crashed through the central reservation and into

:03:17. > :03:19.That car was being driven by 28-year-old Australian Gavin Roberts

:03:20. > :03:23.He was on his way to work for Network Rail.

:03:24. > :03:25.Mr Roberts was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital

:03:26. > :03:27.but died of his injuries four days later.

:03:28. > :03:28.Following his death, Gavin's girlfriend Meg

:03:29. > :03:33.I was due to wake him up at home on Sunday morning and I just wanted

:03:34. > :03:42.I wanted to stop him from going to work on Saturday night.

:03:43. > :03:45.It genuinely didn't feel real, sitting at his bedside.

:03:46. > :03:48.As much as the machines were keeping him alive,

:03:49. > :04:01.he was still warm and he still looked like Gavin because,

:04:02. > :04:07.head to toe, all he looked like was just a bruise

:04:08. > :04:10.and on his right eye and the rest of him was perfect.

:04:11. > :04:13.The defence argued that Stratford had not been holding his phone

:04:14. > :04:18.They it was in a cradle attached to his dashboard but admitted it

:04:19. > :04:22.Representatives from Thames Valley Police

:04:23. > :04:25.were also in court today, with the force keen to stress

:04:26. > :04:29.When we do a live at these scenes, people expect you have mobile phones

:04:30. > :04:32.seized if we believe they have been utilised at the time immediately

:04:33. > :04:45.We seize the phones and download the information kept on that phone

:04:46. > :04:47.to try and interpret whether it was in use

:04:48. > :04:53.Stratford has been disqualified from driving with immediate effect.

:04:54. > :04:56.He will be sentenced next month and has been told a custodial

:04:57. > :05:00.A mother whose baby daughter drowned after she left her in a bath has

:05:01. > :05:05.had her jail sentence increased by 18 months.

:05:06. > :05:07.Judges at the Court of Appeal said Jasmine Gregory's three-year

:05:08. > :05:11.sentence for manslaughter was too lenient.

:05:12. > :05:13.She'd been drinking cider on the morning she left 14-month

:05:19. > :05:20.Three people have appeared before magistrates, charged with the murder

:06:39. > :06:45.which will open the way for future development and funding sources.

:06:49. > :06:52.Students here hope they'll benefit from an extra ?2 billion a year

:06:53. > :06:56.of Government funding for research and development.

:07:05. > :07:16.Back in the robotics lab, students are taught about artificial

:07:17. > :07:19.intelligence, a robot's ability to think and act like a human.

:07:49. > :07:50.at the Oxford Children's Hospital as it marks its ten

:07:51. > :07:56.Tonight, how the staff helped four-year-old Alan from Banbury,

:07:57. > :07:58.who was diagnosed with blood cancer last year.

:07:59. > :08:06.A chance to play with his friends and enjoy himself.

:08:07. > :08:10.Up until last September, he was a healthy, boistorous,

:08:11. > :08:15.young boy, but when Alan's stomach swelled up and he had trouble

:08:16. > :08:18.breathing, his parents took him to the doctor in Banbury.

:08:19. > :08:25.Within days, Alan was in intensive care at the children's hospital.

:08:26. > :08:30.He made no fuss about anything that was done to him,

:08:31. > :08:33.which is amazing, considering some of the things he went through.

:08:34. > :08:37.Some of the side effects of the first two rounds of chemotherapy

:08:38. > :08:43.I think a grown adult would probably cry and lose patience

:08:44. > :08:48.His mum has no doubt that the commitment of staff

:08:49. > :08:55.at the children's hospital went a long way towards saving her son.

:08:56. > :08:57.Friends and parents at Alan's nursery group in Banbury also

:08:58. > :09:06.He is part of the nursery family, and a lot of the families here know

:09:07. > :09:11.It was really important for them to feel like they were

:09:12. > :09:16.We are really pleased to see him do what a four-year

:09:17. > :09:24.Alan is still here with us and he's pretty much back to normal.

:09:25. > :09:26.We could see that quite early on in the treatment,

:09:27. > :09:29.that Alan was starting to come back, but there were periods

:09:30. > :09:32.I hope the worst times are over now and there

:09:40. > :09:43.A tough 2016 - we wish Alan and his family well for 2017.

:09:44. > :09:48.Overnight tonight we're expecting some freezing fog patches

:09:49. > :09:52.and the possibility of ice as well, which is why the Met Office have

:09:53. > :09:55.issued a fog and a nice morning through the course of tonight

:09:56. > :09:58.There's the possibility of disruption to travel.

:09:59. > :10:07.Widespread fog overnight tonight and also freezing in places

:10:08. > :10:11.with temperatures dropping to around -1 Celsius in towns and cities,

:10:12. > :10:16.Widespread frost tomorrow morning and that freezing

:10:17. > :10:21.Once it does, we're expecting one or two bright spells,

:10:22. > :10:25.more likely the further west you are, slightly more cloud

:10:26. > :10:28.for eastern areas and generally it's quite a cloudy day all in all,

:10:29. > :10:31.with temperatures reaching a high of 4 to 6 Celsius with light,

:10:32. > :10:38.Through the course of tomorrow into Thursday, we're expecting some

:10:39. > :10:41.very cold air to push up from the south-east and the breeze

:10:42. > :10:43.will increase as well, so on the face of it,

:10:44. > :10:46.on the thermometer, we're expecting a high of 4 to 5 Celsius,

:10:47. > :10:48.but feeling more like freezing with the wind strength

:10:49. > :10:54.As we look ahead to the rest of the week, a cold day tomorrow.

:10:55. > :10:58.Sunny spells, but bitterly cold on Thursday, and the chance

:10:59. > :11:22.For all of us, it'll get colder and then milder again come the weekend.
