:00:20. > :00:23.The men cycled to raids to avoid their cars being picked up

:00:24. > :00:26.on number plate recognition systems and left traps so that the police

:00:27. > :00:30.Armed with sledgehammers, they smash their way

:00:31. > :00:38.into Goldsmith's jewellery shop in Oxford's Clarendon centre.

:00:39. > :00:40.Caught on CCTV on New Year's Eve 2015, stuffing expensive

:00:41. > :00:45.Suspects carried umbrellas to protect their identities,

:00:46. > :00:50.and this man in the high visibility jacket used a wheelie bin to carry

:00:51. > :01:00.This Romanian crime gang targeted 11 jewellery stores across the country.

:01:01. > :01:03.Today they've been sentenced at Stoke on Trent Crown Court

:01:04. > :01:10.to a total of 47 years for conspiring to commit burglaries.

:01:11. > :01:12.The gang used delay tactics to prevent the police from getting

:01:13. > :01:18.Here they set up metal cables between the lampposts

:01:19. > :01:20.and at the other end of Queens Street.

:01:21. > :01:23.The barricade prevented police from reaching the Clarendon Centre

:01:24. > :01:30.It's a tactic they used across the country in raids netting

:01:31. > :01:36.The gang launched their spree in Milton Keynes in November 2015

:01:37. > :01:38.targeting the Fraser Hart jewellers in Centre MK.

:01:39. > :01:41.They started a fire and padlocked a chain across the road to delay

:01:42. > :01:53.They also carried out a burglary on the Mont Blanc store

:01:54. > :01:56.That level of criminality, how highly organised,

:01:57. > :01:58.military precision of how they actually executed,

:01:59. > :02:00.sophistication and planning around it, clearly not acceptable

:02:01. > :02:02.within the United Kingdom and I think the sentencing

:02:03. > :02:11.reflects the severity of the crimes themselves.

:02:12. > :02:13.The burglars cycled to some of the jobs to avoid being

:02:14. > :02:21.Today they're beginning prison sentences ranging from six and half

:02:22. > :02:38.One further man is due to be sentenced later this month.

:02:39. > :02:41.An ex-Formula One motor racing driver from Oxfordshire has failed

:02:42. > :02:42.to get a driving ban for speeding overturned.

:02:43. > :02:45.Susie Wolff, who drove for Williams between 2012 and 2015,

:02:46. > :02:48.was caught doing 35 miles per hour in a 30 zone in a South

:02:49. > :02:52.Oxford Crown Court heard she already had nine points on her licence.

:02:53. > :02:54.She was banned for six months last November.

:02:55. > :02:56.More than 3,000 people have signed a petition calling

:02:57. > :02:59.for a trunk road to be built around Aylesbury.

:04:38. > :04:41.One councillor says an answer can't come quick enough.

:04:42. > :04:45.She says the area's been gridlocked four times in the past three weeks.

:04:46. > :04:47.I don't know if it's realistic or optimistic, but it's

:04:48. > :04:50.definitely something that needs to be looked at.

:04:51. > :04:54.There's got to be some highway improvements.

:04:55. > :04:57.With no solution on the horizon, drivers and other residents

:04:58. > :05:07.Scientists have developed a machine that can lip read with more

:05:08. > :05:11.Researchers at Oxford University used lip movements from thousands

:05:12. > :05:15.of hours of BBC news programmes, to develop the software.

:05:39. > :05:42.It's involved training an artificial intelligence system using thousands

:05:43. > :05:51.So lip-reading is a very difficult problem because there are visual

:05:52. > :05:56.For example pat, bat and mat are visually identical.

:05:57. > :05:58.By endlessly watching clips of Breakfast, Newsnight and other

:05:59. > :06:02.BBC News programmes, the computer teaches

:06:03. > :06:08.What the system does is learn things that occur together.

:06:09. > :06:11.So in this case they're the mouth shapes and the characters,

:06:12. > :06:13.and what the likely upcoming characters are, given

:06:14. > :06:21.This would help people with when they're watching

:06:22. > :06:26.subtitles on television, this will help people when they're

:06:27. > :06:31.out and about in very noisy environments.

:06:32. > :06:34.Right now the technology only works on full sentences in recorded clips.

:06:35. > :06:37.The next stage is to make it work live.
