:00:20. > :00:30.for the charity that brought them together.

:00:31. > :00:34.Thames Valley Police has to deal with at least three crimes

:00:35. > :00:40.A BBC investigation has revealed that between January and October

:00:41. > :00:43.last year "firearms" were involved in 158 crimes.

:00:44. > :00:46.A former criminal who set up a charity to help young people

:00:47. > :00:49.get away from gangs, claims children as young as ten

:00:50. > :01:00.The latest weekly haul of guns seized by, or surrendered to,

:01:01. > :01:06.Around 2,000 weapons come to this armoury each year but,

:01:07. > :01:08.despite all of them being destroyed, police have still had to deal

:01:09. > :01:13.with more than 1,000 gun crimes since 2011.

:01:14. > :01:16.This investigation took into account all crimes

:01:17. > :01:18.in which a gun was present, regardless of whether

:01:19. > :01:25.The most commonly used weapons were this, a rifle, a shot gun,

:01:26. > :01:28.however the biggest problem for Thames Valley Police

:01:29. > :01:31.are the moment are these, BB guns or replicas which,

:01:32. > :01:35.as you can see, look a lot like the real thing.

:01:36. > :01:38.Certainly in recent times we have had some good successes

:01:39. > :01:41.when targeting serious and organised criminality and we have managed

:01:42. > :01:44.to seize not only automatic weapons but also ammunition for those

:01:45. > :01:51.So to take those off the streets is saving lives.

:01:52. > :01:57.In the year ending March 2016 there were almost 8,400 firearm

:01:58. > :02:06.This figure is significantly lower than knife crimes,

:02:07. > :02:08.which saw 20,000 more incidents for same period.

:02:09. > :02:11.Gun crime makes up a small proportion of overall crime,

:02:12. > :02:16.So how does Thames Valley compare nationally?

:02:17. > :02:20.It is way below the national average.

:02:21. > :02:25.I think it was about four gun crimes per 100,000 population.

:02:26. > :02:28.That is the scale we are talking about in Thames Valley compared

:02:29. > :02:34.There may be pockets in Thames Valley where

:02:35. > :02:40.And it's these pockets causing concern.

:02:41. > :02:44.In 2007 charity Gangsline was launched to discuss

:02:45. > :02:51.The man behind it is former gang member Sheldon Thomas.

:02:52. > :02:53.You've got to understand where we are talking

:02:54. > :02:57.about the Thames Valley, everywhere has a gangs problem,

:02:58. > :03:00.and we have to stop using geography as trying to,

:03:01. > :03:05.well, they've got the problem there, we haven't got the problem.

:03:06. > :03:10.I was not able to hold a gun until I was about,

:03:11. > :03:15.These guys can get guns now at ten, 11, 12.

:03:16. > :03:18.That is the reason why I say that it is worse now

:03:19. > :03:23.than it was when I was around about 20 years ago.

:03:24. > :03:25.In a response to serious and organised crime

:03:26. > :03:28.Thames Valley Police have now launched Stronghold,

:03:29. > :03:30.a scheme encouraging residents to take ownership of their local

:03:31. > :03:41.An inquest has opened into the death of a five-year-old boy found dead

:03:42. > :03:45.Police launched a murder investigation after the body

:03:46. > :03:48.of Tyler Warmington was found at Bromsgrove Cottages.

:03:49. > :03:53.A 40-year-old woman was questioned on suspicion of murder

:03:54. > :03:58.The inquest is due to resume in July.

:03:59. > :04:01.?10 million is being invested in a new cancer therapy centre

:04:02. > :04:07.80% of the funding for the centre has now been found.

:04:08. > :04:09.It'll have 24 beds - and will bring together

:04:10. > :04:11.all the different cancer services under one roof.

:04:12. > :04:16.The hospital has already received ?2 million from the charity Macmillan.

:04:17. > :04:23.It says the contribution hasn't come from council tax.

:04:24. > :04:25.Doctors say the drug ketamine could to be used

:04:26. > :04:28.more widely in the NHS, to treat depression.

:04:29. > :04:31.A six-year study in Oxford found it helped patients with moderate

:04:32. > :04:34.or severe depression who hadn't responded to other treatments.

:04:35. > :04:42.This is the best she has felt in seven years.

:04:43. > :04:46.Depression and anorexia took their toll but taking part

:04:47. > :04:48.in this NHS drug trial has stopped her from feeling

:04:49. > :04:52.as if she is drowning in her own thoughts.

:04:53. > :05:00.I can take my kids to their friends' birthday parties, go on the odd play

:05:01. > :05:03.date every now and then, actually be present in my kids'

:05:04. > :05:09.lives, which is the most important thing to me.

:05:10. > :05:14.Helen is among the first patients to have this experimental treatment.

:05:15. > :05:18.Doctors can prescribe ketamine as a licensed drug.

:05:19. > :05:23.All the patients in this trial had moderate or severe depression

:05:24. > :05:26.and other treatment had failed but 42 of the 101 patients felt much

:05:27. > :05:49.We need to use it in a controlled environment. We think we will get

:05:50. > :05:52.more experience the more it is used with exactly how we can help people

:05:53. > :05:55.if nothing else has worked. The doctors in Oxford hope

:05:56. > :05:57.other hospitals will take up their approach and contribute

:05:58. > :05:59.to a central register so side-effects can be monitored,

:06:00. > :06:01.but the Royal College of Psychiatrists is urging

:06:02. > :06:03.caution, saying there are still significant gaps

:06:04. > :06:05.in our knowledge about ketamine. We still do not know what the most

:06:06. > :06:08.effective dose will be, what the most effective dose regime

:06:09. > :06:12.will be, and we do not know what the long-term potential harms

:06:13. > :06:17.of using ketamine are, so I think we have to do

:06:18. > :06:19.more studies before Patients in Oxford receive the drug

:06:20. > :06:24.through a drip in carefully The doctors here believe thousands

:06:25. > :06:30.more people could benefit from this treatment but they warned ketamine

:06:31. > :06:32.should only be taken under Bicester Library's been

:06:33. > :06:38.celebrating its first year in its new home with a visit

:06:39. > :06:41.from children's The new library's attracted 3000

:06:42. > :06:46.members since it opened last April. As well as providing more space

:06:47. > :06:50.for books and public computers, the library hosts regular children's

:06:51. > :06:52.activities - a local history group You know, there are so many things

:06:53. > :06:58.going on that the library has had to be very proactive in attracting

:06:59. > :07:00.people and doing modern It is not a case of

:07:01. > :07:06.libraries being shh, quiet. They are noisy exciting

:07:07. > :07:09.places and that is how they should be and that is how

:07:10. > :07:13.they will attract people. A young boy has raised more

:07:14. > :07:16.than ?30,000 for an Oxfordshire charity, after a story about him

:07:17. > :07:20.and his support dog Caddie went 13-year-old Joel Sayer has

:07:21. > :07:24.autism and says his world changed when Caddie,

:07:25. > :07:26.who was trained by Dogs for Good, Lucy Bickerton has

:07:27. > :07:34.been to meet them. Their friendship captured the hearts

:07:35. > :07:36.of the nation after they reached the final of the Friends for Life

:07:37. > :07:39.competition at Crufts this year. He's more than a friend,

:07:40. > :07:49.he's a guardian angel for me. After people saw their inspirational

:07:50. > :07:54.story, Joel set about raising money to give another child a friend

:07:55. > :08:00.for life, like he has in Caddie. He's now raised enough to sponsor

:08:01. > :08:04.another dog through training. At that time before we got Caddie,

:08:05. > :08:07.we had the diagnosis, we had Joel as he was,

:08:08. > :08:11.but there was nobody listening To think that someone else in that

:08:12. > :08:16.situation is going to get the light at the end of the tunnel like we had

:08:17. > :08:23.with Caddie is fantastic. Caddie came into Joel's life

:08:24. > :08:26.through the charity Dogs They train dogs to support people

:08:27. > :08:30.with physical disabilities, learning difficulties,

:08:31. > :08:31.and conditions such For some of the children

:08:32. > :08:36.the social interaction, particularly children with autism,

:08:37. > :08:38.is quite difficult and yet dogs don't judge us

:08:39. > :08:41.in the same way as humans do. So building a relationship

:08:42. > :08:44.with a dog is a much more neutral focus for the child

:08:45. > :08:46.and through building that relationship with the dog they learn

:08:47. > :08:50.other social skills they can take Dogs can really give children

:08:51. > :08:58.the opportunity for children And as their friendship continues

:08:59. > :09:07.to grow so does Joel's confidence. Alexis is next with the weather

:09:08. > :09:27.forecast for tonight It has been a lovely day

:09:28. > :09:33.today, with a high of 16 And you will be glad to hear

:09:34. > :09:37.tomorrow will be very similar, perhaps a little more cloud overhead

:09:38. > :09:40.during the afternoon. Chilly with clear skies

:09:41. > :09:41.overnight tonight. And underneath the skies

:09:42. > :09:45.with the light winds and temperatures in the countryside

:09:46. > :09:47.could fall as low as These are temperatures

:09:48. > :09:50.in towns and cities. A lovely sunny start

:09:51. > :09:51.to the day tomorrow. Through the day there will be cloud

:09:52. > :09:54.coming and going here and there, but all and all it will feel

:09:55. > :09:57.pleasantly warm, especially Temperatures reaching the high

:09:58. > :10:03.of 15, maybe up to 16 Celsius. As we head towards the weekend

:10:04. > :10:07.temperatures will continue to climb. Over the weekend it is going to be

:10:08. > :10:10.a lovely day on Saturday, we could see a high of 17,

:10:11. > :10:14.maybe 18 Celsius across the region. High pressure starts to pull the way

:10:15. > :10:19.towards the near continent. With the high-pressure pulling away,

:10:20. > :10:23.we draw in the warmer air from France, right the way down

:10:24. > :10:26.from Spain as well. Lovely sunny conditions

:10:27. > :10:28.through Saturday and also It will feel very settled

:10:29. > :10:33.over the next few days, but the change comes

:10:34. > :10:37.about in the first part of next week As we look ahead to the rest

:10:38. > :10:42.of the week into the weekend and into next week as well,

:10:43. > :10:45.a lovely sunny day tomorrow. Through the afternoon there will be

:10:46. > :10:49.highs of 16 Celsius. Warmer still on Saturday

:10:50. > :10:51.with a high of 18 Celsius, With lots of sunshine over

:10:52. > :11:00.the weekend, it will feel pleasant. to rise into the weekend. We'll see

:11:01. > :11:10.22 Celsius on Sunday. Hello. There was some warm sunshine

:11:11. > :11:14.around today, but it's set to get even warmer this weekend. 18 Celsius

:11:15. > :11:18.in London this afternoon. This was the scene in Chiswick, much quieter

:11:19. > :11:22.than it was on Sunday for the boat race. Under the cloud for example

:11:23. > :11:26.here in Cumbria, temperatures struggled to make double figures.

:11:27. > :11:30.Through the night we're going to hang onto a lot of cloud across

:11:31. > :11:31.north-west England, North Wales, Northern Ireland and western

:11:32. > :11:32.Scotland, where there will
