:00:10. > :00:12.Good evening, I'm Allen Sinclair with the news now here in the South.

:00:13. > :00:14.Police investigating the terrorist attack in Manchester last week have

:00:15. > :00:19.Officers raided a flat above shops in Shoreham town centre in the early

:00:20. > :00:25.Neighbours say the 23-year-old came from Libya and was training to be

:00:26. > :00:34.This was the day the hunt for those who might be linked

:00:35. > :00:39.to the Manchester bomber came to the South Coast.

:00:40. > :00:41.Yeah, we were staying here last night.

:00:42. > :00:44.Well, I just kind of heard crashing and banging.

:00:45. > :00:50.I'd just woken up so it was all a bit like 'whoa!' to me.

:00:51. > :00:55.The raid by anti-terror officers was right in the heart of Shoreham.

:00:56. > :00:57.Detained at the flat above shops in Brunswick Road

:00:58. > :01:02.was a 23-year-old man, arrested under the Terrorism Act.

:01:03. > :01:07.He'd been a regular customer at several nearby businesses.

:01:08. > :01:09.He said he went to college, he studied up there.

:01:10. > :01:12.He was from Libya, that is all I know.

:01:13. > :01:15.The owner of this salon below the flat where he had his hair cut

:01:16. > :01:18.said those studies involved training as a pilot at nearby

:01:19. > :01:26.Sometimes I'm busy doing hair, so they'd would bring people there,

:01:27. > :01:30.I would wave at them, they would wave at me.

:01:31. > :01:34.And what did you think when you arrived here

:01:35. > :01:40.I've just woken up, I'm still panicking!

:01:41. > :01:43.The Shoreham raid coincided with other police operations

:01:44. > :01:46.in the Whalley Range area of Manchester, and in

:01:47. > :01:52.All in connection with the bombing a week ago today which claimed

:01:53. > :01:58.the lives of 22 people at the Manchester Arena.

:01:59. > :02:01.Police say they've made considerable progress in their investigation,

:02:02. > :02:05.but today's raid shows the pace of operations certainly isn't

:02:06. > :02:20.The man arrested here has not been formally identified and police are

:02:21. > :02:24.not saying where he's being held. He is the 16th person to be arrested in

:02:25. > :02:30.connection with the Manchester bombing. 14 of them remain in

:02:31. > :02:36.custody. Sussex Police say people should remain alert not alarmed.

:02:37. > :02:38.This investigation has now spread to the south coast.

:02:39. > :02:40.It was a devastating end to the play-off finals

:02:41. > :02:42.at Wembley for Reading - robbed of a return to

:02:43. > :02:46.An incredibly tense and even-matched game saw Royals and Huddersfield

:02:47. > :02:48.goalless after 90 minutes, and it was still 0-0

:02:49. > :02:53.In the end, it was the final kick of the game that

:02:54. > :02:56.They'll be back in the Championship next season.

:02:57. > :03:02.Our sports editor, Tony Husband, went through the agony with them.

:03:03. > :03:05.The play-off final at football's most lucrative game and it can also

:03:06. > :03:09.be the most devastating if you're a fan of the losing side.

:03:10. > :03:13.And for the sixth time in Football League play-off history,

:03:14. > :03:15.Reading have come up just short again.

:03:16. > :03:18.They've been beaten here at Wembley Stadium by Huddersfield

:03:19. > :03:22.in truly heartbreaking style, 4-3 in a penalty shoot out.

:03:23. > :03:28.It all followed a very tense game of few chances.

:03:29. > :03:31.Huddersfield probably just edged the 120 minutes,

:03:32. > :03:35.but hopes were high that Jaap Stam's and then could come through the game

:03:36. > :03:39.and secure their place in the Premier League.

:03:40. > :03:41.Nevertheless, it was devastation for Royals players,

:03:42. > :03:46.Reading didn't take the chances, they didn't really shoot.

:03:47. > :03:50.So, unfortunately, I don't know whether the better team won,

:03:51. > :03:53.but we weren't good enough on the penalties, I'm afraid.

:03:54. > :03:57.This season, I'd have taken mid-table.

:03:58. > :04:00.The fact that we made the play-offs, the fact that we made third,

:04:01. > :04:03.the fact that we gave a good show of ourselves today,

:04:04. > :04:07.It was always going to be an equal contest and it went literally

:04:08. > :04:10.Huddersfield probably deserve it on that game.

:04:11. > :04:20.When you get the penalties, it is a lottery.

:04:21. > :04:22.Huddersfield had two good chances early on in the game but,

:04:23. > :04:25.as you said, after that, it was nip and tuck and,

:04:26. > :04:27.unfortunately, Huddersfield have got themselves over the line

:04:28. > :04:30.into the Premier League, and the management,

:04:31. > :04:33.the players of Reading, they will be absolutely distraught,

:04:34. > :04:40.It doesn't matter how many people tell them it's been a great season,

:04:41. > :04:42.they'll be absolutely distraught for days to come.

:04:43. > :04:45.It's just a case of words won't do much at the moment.

:04:46. > :04:49.We just need to try and get over it, and time will do that and,

:04:50. > :04:53.when we come back, we'll be better for the experience, but obviously

:04:54. > :05:00.it's easy saying that at this moment in time.

:05:01. > :05:06.Nobody would have, for one moment, suggested we would be here at the

:05:07. > :05:12.play-offs at the beginning of the season. An awful lot to be pleased

:05:13. > :05:17.about and build on. But at the end of the day, we come away

:05:18. > :05:23.empty-handed. In many ways, Reading defied expectations this season.

:05:24. > :05:26.Nobody predicted that they would finish third in his first campaign

:05:27. > :05:33.in English football. The hope must be that now jabs stamped stays to

:05:34. > :05:36.oversee another tilt at the Premier League.

:05:37. > :05:39.Meanwhile, breaking news tonight - Portsmouth manager Paul Cook looks

:05:40. > :05:41.to be on the verge of leaving to join League 1

:05:42. > :05:45.Pompey offered Cook a lucrative new contract to remain

:05:46. > :05:48.at Fratton Park after securing promotion this season,

:05:49. > :05:52.but it's understood he's keen to rejoin the club where he had two

:05:53. > :05:56.The deal's expected to be completed tomorrow.

:05:57. > :05:59.It's now two months since the penalty for using a mobile phone

:06:00. > :06:02.behind the wheel was doubled and a campaign launched

:06:03. > :06:06.to try to make it as socially unacceptable as drink driving,

:06:07. > :06:09.but it seems many motorists are ignoring the warnings.

:06:10. > :06:11.Nearly 500 have been caught in a single month

:06:12. > :06:23.A mother and three children were killed in this crash

:06:24. > :06:28.Tomasz Kroker had been distracted by his phone at the time.

:06:29. > :06:30.And in January, Lewis Stratford here was jailed for causing

:06:31. > :06:39.Again, Lewis had been using his mobile phone while driving.

:06:40. > :06:41.Now stricter penalties for drivers mean if you're caught

:06:42. > :06:44.holding your phone behind the wheel, you face getting six points

:06:45. > :06:53.Those new rules came in at the beginning of March this

:06:54. > :06:56.year and yet, in that month alone, Thames Valley Police recorded

:06:57. > :07:00.nearly 500 incidents of drivers doing exactly that.

:07:01. > :07:02.The force recorded the largest total of drivers using a phone

:07:03. > :07:07.behind the wheel in the UK outside of London.

:07:08. > :07:09.I think there is this fear of missing out,

:07:10. > :07:12.especially with younger drivers, who want to keep in touch with their

:07:13. > :07:17.And what we need to get the message across is, put the phone away,

:07:18. > :07:19.that Snapchat can wait, that Facebook message can wait,

:07:20. > :07:22.get to your destination safely and then do what you need to do

:07:23. > :07:26.Other safety campaign groups have welcomed today's figures,

:07:27. > :07:33.but say a change in driver attitude is the only solution.

:07:34. > :07:36.Sir Ben Ainslie and his crew have lost a fourth successive race

:07:37. > :07:39.in the opening phase of America's Cup

:07:40. > :07:43.The Landrover BAR team based in Portsmouth were beaten

:07:44. > :07:48.by the unfancied French boat in their only race of day three.

:07:49. > :07:51.The British team still sit in a healthy position

:07:52. > :07:54.in the rankings due to World Series points carried into the Cup,

:07:55. > :08:06.but Ainslie says his team must come back fighting tomorrow.

:08:07. > :08:14.The weather for the week ahead is fairly mixed. We will have rain at

:08:15. > :08:19.times. Dry warm sunny days. It will turn fresher by the weekend.

:08:20. > :08:24.Overnight, the risk of the odd isolated shower. Temperatures in

:08:25. > :08:27.double figures. A good deal of cloud, maybe coastal mist here and

:08:28. > :08:32.there. Through the course of the day tomorrow, the cloud will then braked

:08:33. > :08:36.and up a brighter spells. Not wall-to-wall sunshine but a fair

:08:37. > :08:40.amount of cloud and the odd isolated shower as well. Temperatures in any

:08:41. > :08:44.sunny spells could reach a high of 20 Celsius. Tomorrow evening, the

:08:45. > :08:47.cloud will disappear for some but the odd shower is possible, and that

:08:48. > :08:55.cloud will fade away during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

:08:56. > :08:58.There may be mist developing in places, particularly coastal mist.

:08:59. > :09:02.Temperatures tomorrow night 11-13dC. Through the course of Wednesday, a

:09:03. > :09:06.good deal of cloud, coastal mist town towards the south-west, but

:09:07. > :09:12.pleasantly warm in any sunny spells with a high of 19-20dC. Through

:09:13. > :09:17.Thursday, dry and settled thanks to dry pressure dominating our weather.

:09:18. > :09:21.On Friday, this weather front moves south and East Woods said the

:09:22. > :09:25.possibility of heavy rain, but a lot of uncertainty about the timing of

:09:26. > :09:30.this rain band and when it is expected to arrive. For the weekend,

:09:31. > :09:34.fresher conditions, brighter spells here and there, and the odd

:09:35. > :09:39.scattered shower, but a lot of dry weather.

:09:40. > :09:44.Tomorrow evening, our political editor will host a special election

:09:45. > :09:46.debate with candidates from the five main parties and an audience of

:09:47. > :10:10.local voters. Hello. There I think we've seen the

:10:11. > :10:15.back of the thunder storms now. Over the next few days, our weather will

:10:16. > :10:19.start to come in from the Atlantic. We'll draw down fresher air from the

:10:20. > :10:23.North West. Recently, we've been drawing up humid air from the south,

:10:24. > :10:28.from the near continent. Of course, it all went bang in the early hours

:10:29. > :10:31.of this morning. Some tremendous thunder storms, a rattling and

:10:32. > :10:35.liting up the skies in the south-east. Since then, it's not

:10:36. > :10:38.been as stormy. A few storms over the near continent. It's been bursts

:10:39. > :10:47.of rain across the UK. And a lot of cloud too. Quite low cloud in places

:10:48. > :10:50.as well. Quite a poor day, for example, here in Buxton in

:10:51. > :10:55.Derbyshire. A lot of cloud still around. It is turning drier. All

:10:56. > :10:59.these down pours are tending to work their way northwards and eastwards,

:11:00. > :11:04.out into the North Sea. It's turning drier. It's still quite warm and

:11:05. > :11:05.humid, particularly across England and Wales.
