:00:07. > :00:14.Good evening. In tonight's programme, the big clean-up, the

:00:14. > :00:17.South gets back to normal after the flash floods chaos. The painting is

:00:17. > :00:24.called the Highland floods. Ironically, we were saving the

:00:24. > :00:29.flood from the flood. The human rights campaign after claims that

:00:29. > :00:36.this man will be tortured if he is kicked out of Britain. He has the

:00:36. > :00:38.right to protect himself, no matter what he has done. One council

:00:38. > :00:44.scraps and unpopular car parking scheme while another plans to

:00:44. > :00:54.introduce it. Fast and dirty, the Grand Prix

:00:54. > :00:59.

:00:59. > :01:04.The hundreds of workers and volunteers swung into action today

:01:04. > :01:08.to clean up after yesterday's flash floods. Parks and public areas have

:01:08. > :01:11.been sprayed with disinfectant after the flood waters engulf

:01:11. > :01:16.Bournemouth gardens. A number of shops spend much of yesterday

:01:16. > :01:19.mopping up, to ensure they were able to open for business today.

:01:19. > :01:23.Their efforts were rewarded as thousands of visitors to the annual

:01:23. > :01:26.airshow were able to move around the town freely in areas which look

:01:26. > :01:32.like this yesterday. Hard to believe that this is the same area

:01:32. > :01:35.24 hours ago. The gardens were under many feet of water. The

:01:35. > :01:43.drains were overwhelmed and manhole covers blew up words. There was

:01:43. > :01:48.traffic chaos. Our reporter spent the day watching the town go back

:01:48. > :01:53.to normal. The flooding came as a shock. As

:01:53. > :01:57.you say, the town looked a mess yesterday. But today it is very

:01:57. > :02:01.different. If you look around, you will see that people are back. On

:02:01. > :02:05.the seafront, they are gathering for the air display. It has taken

:02:05. > :02:10.an effort though. Especially to open up the pleasure gardens, which

:02:10. > :02:16.are behind me here. It is a vital routes to the seafront. It looks as

:02:16. > :02:20.though all the hard work has paid off.

:02:20. > :02:24.From first light, an army worked its way through the town's pleasure

:02:24. > :02:27.gardens, clearing up the mess left behind by the flood. They worked

:02:27. > :02:33.hard and quickly and by late morning, crowds were allowed back

:02:33. > :02:37.in. It is hard to believe the 24 hours ago it was dark, pouring with

:02:37. > :02:43.rain and this whole area was completely under water. Now it

:02:43. > :02:49.feels almost as if nothing happened. But the memories were still vivid.

:02:49. > :02:55.You see heavy rain, but not rivers of water running down the hills.

:02:55. > :03:00.The flooding affected more than the town centre. They retired music

:03:00. > :03:05.teacher found herself stranded in her summer house. -- a retired.

:03:05. > :03:12.There was Sunder and lightning. -- thunder and lightning. It came up

:03:12. > :03:16.in minutes, the water. And I was stranded. At this Art Gallery,

:03:16. > :03:21.staff had to race to rescue their treasures. Water was running down

:03:21. > :03:27.the wall of the main hallway. We have a painting by Edwin Landseer.

:03:27. > :03:34.The painting is called a Highland floods. Ironically, we were saving

:03:34. > :03:38.the flood from the flood. Many willing hands came forward to help

:03:38. > :03:46.with the pleasure garden clean-up. We had offers of help from retired

:03:46. > :03:54.people. Hoteliers, and it was a real effort from everyone involved.

:03:54. > :03:58.On the beach, not such a good story. It is feared that sewage has

:03:58. > :04:01.contaminated the water. People are being advised not to go in. There

:04:02. > :04:08.has been plenty to see from the shore. The airshow, yesterday

:04:08. > :04:12.cancelled, was in full action today. It has been very busy here today,

:04:12. > :04:17.much to the relief of the holiday trade. The summer season does not

:04:17. > :04:23.last that long in this country. Getting everything up and running

:04:23. > :04:28.again has been very important for the town's business, as well as its

:04:28. > :04:33.pride. If we will be returning to Bournemouth later. For now, back to

:04:33. > :04:37.you. An inquiry is underway in Reading

:04:37. > :04:41.into why homes in Whitley were flooded just months after the

:04:41. > :04:47.completion of a scheme designed to protect them. Residents of Kingsley

:04:47. > :04:52.Close put their faith in a 225,000 flood alleviation scheme after many

:04:52. > :04:59.were forced out of their homes for six months in 2007. Today, the

:04:59. > :05:02.question is why it failed its first test.

:05:02. > :05:07.Residents here thought never again with they find themselves cleaning

:05:07. > :05:12.up like this. But then came yesterday's rain. The water was

:05:12. > :05:20.pouring through. The side of the room, the water was gushing from

:05:20. > :05:28.under the floorboards. It is all still very wet. Still lots of water

:05:28. > :05:32.coming out. This woman watched with relief as a flood alleviation

:05:32. > :05:35.scheme was put in place earlier this year, thinking she would never

:05:36. > :05:42.again have to put her faith in sandbags at the door. Just like

:05:42. > :05:47.last time, they were not enough to save her. We were out of her house

:05:47. > :05:52.for six months last time. We cannot live properly. And now it is

:05:52. > :05:57.happening again. Today, as the council promised an inquiry

:05:57. > :06:07.insisting that fewer homes had been affected than during the 2007

:06:07. > :06:10.floods, water levels were back to level -- normal levels. They are

:06:11. > :06:16.coming around to assess the damages, and I do not know whether they will

:06:16. > :06:20.want to know. If you claim to many times, they will not want to insure

:06:20. > :06:27.you for stump and as yesterday proved, the risk of flooding has

:06:27. > :06:32.yet to be banished. The man and woman who died when a

:06:32. > :06:38.car plunged off cliffs on the Isle of Wight have been named as Paul

:06:38. > :06:44.Charles and Jacqueline Charles from Ryde. An inquest heard that they

:06:44. > :06:48.both died from multiple injuries consistent with a fall.

:06:48. > :06:54.Sussex police have released an e- fit of a suspected armed robber who

:06:54. > :06:58.has been targeting mobile-phone shops. Police believe the man has

:06:58. > :07:02.struck at shops in Brighton, Hove and Worthing. Staff at the Carphone

:07:02. > :07:07.Warehouse were threatened with a knife by the man, who rode off on a

:07:07. > :07:11.bicycle. Police say the shops lost thousands of pounds worth of stock.

:07:11. > :07:15.A Portsmouth MP is backing a campaign to stop a gay man being

:07:15. > :07:21.deported to Uganda. Liberal Democrat Mike Hancock says the East

:07:21. > :07:26.African state is conducting an appalling which at and the man

:07:26. > :07:32.would be in real danger if he was not given asylum. -- which hunt.

:07:32. > :07:36.cannot run to anybody, even the government. Trying to get news,

:07:36. > :07:41.Robert's friends say he will be in real danger if he is sent back to

:07:41. > :07:45.Uganda. The 32-year-old claims he was tortured by police using molten

:07:45. > :07:53.plastic. His crime was to admit to being gay, something increasingly

:07:53. > :07:56.condemned as on African and un- Christian in Uganda, where military

:07:56. > :08:04.conflict is putting the Government under pressure. A picture when

:08:04. > :08:10.prison with no judge. -- they put you in prison. In UK immigration

:08:10. > :08:15.court has rejected the case and he is within hours of being deported.

:08:15. > :08:25.They say I'm not gay. I tried to prove to them that I was gay.

:08:25. > :08:29.that the problem? It is difficult to prove. All my friends, they

:08:29. > :08:32.tried to write to them, but they never believed me. John went down

:08:32. > :08:36.the same route, initially deported because British immigration

:08:36. > :08:40.officials would not affect that he is gay. He is now a care worker in

:08:41. > :08:46.Southampton. -- would not accept. If someone has enough evidence to

:08:46. > :08:51.prove they're gay, I do not see why they are treated the way Robert has

:08:51. > :08:56.been treated. Despite protests in Portsmouth, tonight the UK Borders

:08:56. > :09:03.Agency said that if legal efforts failed, Robert's removal would be

:09:04. > :09:09.pursued as a matter of priority. Nearly 27,000 has been raised for

:09:09. > :09:17.the Jubilee Gardens Project at Salisbury District Hospital for the

:09:17. > :09:22.South Spinal Injuries Trust. The money has been injured in -- raised

:09:22. > :09:28.in tribute to Horatio Chapple, killed by a polar bear in Norway.

:09:28. > :09:33.Horatio volunteer at the hospital. -- volunteer it. Still to come,

:09:33. > :09:39.nerves of steel or butterflies in the stomach.

:09:39. > :09:44.The join me later to find out if I will be jumping from this play in

:09:44. > :09:49.13,000 feet in the sky. -- jumping from this play in.

:09:49. > :09:52.Ace six-month long row over car parking charges and Salsbury came

:09:52. > :09:57.to a head today. Wiltshire council has overturned its decision to

:09:57. > :10:02.charge shoppers a minimum of two hours. City centre Traders says it

:10:02. > :10:06.-- say it has driven people away, pushing some of them almost out of

:10:06. > :10:14.business. In Poole, there are about to try the same tactic to persuade

:10:14. > :10:19.visitors to stay longer. Andrew has been cutting hair in Winchester

:10:19. > :10:25.Street for 17 years. His customers only need an hour's parking. When

:10:25. > :10:34.will share council imported -- imposed a minimum to a stay, his

:10:34. > :10:40.trade tumbled. I lost about 25% of my income. I cannot go out and eat

:10:40. > :10:45.so often. I have not got the money in my pocket. Here is a city-centre

:10:45. > :10:50.car park, half-empty this lunchtime. 200,000 fewer cars than normal have

:10:50. > :10:55.visited the city this year. Today, the council overturned its own

:10:55. > :10:59.decision. One hour parking will return. For people below the

:10:59. > :11:04.outside Salisbury, needing to come in for the audit appointment, it is

:11:04. > :11:11.great. -- the occasional appointment. I am here for 20

:11:12. > :11:15.minutes and I have wasted 2.20. The council still reckon they could

:11:15. > :11:19.lose half a million pounds of income. We have had a downturn of

:11:19. > :11:24.trained so we have to say the no, it did not work. We have gone back

:11:25. > :11:29.to the original arrangement. miles away, Poole is doing the

:11:29. > :11:34.opposite. It will increase the minimum time to two hours in some

:11:34. > :11:39.car parks. They already make a 2 million profit from parking.

:11:39. > :11:46.want to try to encourage people to stay longer, instead of just

:11:46. > :11:52.dashing in and out. The bruising experience here in Salsbury has

:11:52. > :11:56.shown that even a 1 increase in short-term car park and is quite

:11:56. > :12:01.enough to drive some shoppers away. For a quick trip to the city centre,

:12:01. > :12:08.many do not seem prepared to take the cheaper park-and-ride bus

:12:08. > :12:12.instead. Basingstoke in Bloom, an annual

:12:12. > :12:16.flower contest that has been running for 50 years, will not go

:12:16. > :12:19.ahead this year. The council's decision to cancel the competition

:12:19. > :12:23.will save them 5,000. Some gardeners have criticised the move

:12:23. > :12:27.saying that the event brings the community together. The council

:12:27. > :12:31.said it was only taking a year route and the contest will be back

:12:31. > :12:35.next to you. It is one of the most important and

:12:35. > :12:40.influential books have recovered -- published. The King James Bible,

:12:40. > :12:44.still a bestseller today. This here it is 400 years since it was first

:12:44. > :12:48.translated. Translating it into English was a major undertaking.

:12:48. > :12:51.Scholars at Winchester played a key role. To mark the occasion, a

:12:51. > :12:54.special public exhibition is underway.

:12:54. > :12:58.Winchester College played a vital part in the production of the

:12:58. > :13:02.King's James Bible. These are the old classrooms were many of the

:13:02. > :13:07.translators were educated. And this is the old school run, with a new

:13:07. > :13:12.exhibition is about to be unveiled. -- schoolroom. It tells the story

:13:12. > :13:16.of the Bible's evolution to the present day. The exhibits come from

:13:16. > :13:23.archives, and in pride of place is the copy of the 1611 King James

:13:23. > :13:26.Bible. Despite its fame, its first reception was fairly humble. It had

:13:27. > :13:30.remarkably little impact. It is a very large book because it was

:13:30. > :13:36.designed to be read in churches. Individuals do not have the run

:13:36. > :13:40.copies, they continue to use translations from previous times.

:13:40. > :13:44.It was not until the 18th century that this began to become the

:13:44. > :13:47.accepted Bible but everybody wanted to use. Five scholars from

:13:47. > :13:53.Winchester helped in the translation including John Harmer,

:13:53. > :13:56.Warden of the college. His quarter Barnes is beside the college window.

:13:56. > :14:00.The exhibition includes several European Bibles that he used to

:14:01. > :14:04.help with his own translation. of the things that happened in the

:14:04. > :14:09.16th century was that the general level scholarship had gone up and

:14:09. > :14:12.up and up, the general level of linguistic scholar tough --

:14:12. > :14:16.linguistic scholarship. There was more attention to the detail and

:14:16. > :14:20.nuance of words. The exhibition includes a host of Bibles with

:14:20. > :14:24.historical significance, from some of the earliest, to this oddity,

:14:24. > :14:29.one of the hideous Bibles over- produced. All 10 volumes of the

:14:29. > :14:36.Paris polyglot, weighing over 17 stone. So heavy that it was never

:14:36. > :14:42.bored and it is now very rare. -- never balked. The exhibition is on

:14:42. > :14:45.for a month. The show an air show returns for

:14:45. > :14:52.the 22nd year this weekend and is being billed as the biggest and

:14:52. > :14:55.best yet. The show starts tomorrow. -- Shoreham Airshow. They will

:14:55. > :14:58.recreate a real battles and dog fights and there will be the chance

:14:58. > :15:04.to parachute from a specially erected tower if you're feeling

:15:05. > :15:09.brave. Talking of feeling courageous, we will join Sarah now,

:15:09. > :15:14.on day two of the Bournemouth air festival. After yesterday's washout,

:15:14. > :15:21.the weather has been much more favourable. Much going on. Sarah is

:15:21. > :15:29.there for us now. Earlier, we saw you about to take to the skies for

:15:29. > :15:34.you skydiving. I'm dying to know, did you jump? Well, I am now firmly

:15:34. > :15:37.back down on the ground, safe and sound. That flight was a little bit

:15:37. > :15:42.on the at times. I spent the morning with the Tigers parachute

:15:42. > :15:45.display team. They're one of the display teams taking part in the

:15:45. > :15:49.Bournemouth air festival. Organisers are expecting up to one

:15:49. > :15:54.million people to come down here and enjoy the festivities over the

:15:54. > :15:59.four day event. We have seen the Red Arrows today and wing walkers,

:15:59. > :16:06.and there is so much more to come. Today was the day to go up into the

:16:06. > :16:13.sky for me. Good morning. I am the team commander for the Royal

:16:13. > :16:19.Regiment parachute display team. We will go to miles out and throw

:16:19. > :16:23.ourselves out of the aircraft. -- two miles up. I still do not like

:16:24. > :16:30.it on the motorway. I'll tell my mum about this later! This is the

:16:30. > :16:35.main parachute. It is 330... We do demonstrations of parachuting at

:16:35. > :16:42.different shows. We are representing the army and putting

:16:42. > :16:49.it in the public eye. There are different sides to the army, it is

:16:49. > :16:53.not just going out to fight. 5,000 per square inch. In layman's terms,

:16:54. > :16:58.a baby elephant could hang off of that. I did not think I would get

:16:58. > :17:02.much sleep last night. I ate breakfast as well. I have not had a

:17:02. > :17:12.cup of tea, but I thought I would feel more nervous about it than I

:17:12. > :17:12.

:17:12. > :17:52.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:17:52. > :17:58.That was incredible. Just the pressure, coming down, it is so

:17:58. > :18:07.fast, so cold. And in the Parachute goes up and you get the sense of

:18:07. > :18:11.calm. -- and then the parachute. I'm reliving it, just watching it

:18:11. > :18:18.back it is bringing a shiver to my spine. I'm going to go and compose

:18:18. > :18:21.myself and I will be back later with the full weather forecast.

:18:21. > :18:28.butterflies in my stomach were going one I saw you leap out of the

:18:28. > :18:32.aircraft! I really felt for you. It was fabulous. Catch up with you

:18:32. > :18:36.later. She is such a brave girl.

:18:36. > :18:39.The weather forecast will be spot on. She has been there. She has

:18:39. > :18:43.seen at! Talking of bravery and courage, you

:18:43. > :18:47.need to be fairly gutsy to have a go at motocross. That is what we

:18:47. > :18:51.will start with tonight. Tens of thousands of motorsport fans will

:18:51. > :18:58.head to a field outside Winchester this weekend for one of the biggest

:18:58. > :19:01.motocross events that we have ever seen. The British Grand Prix is

:19:01. > :19:07.taking place and there could be a new champion. Organisers hope it

:19:07. > :19:11.will become a regular fixture. This is the kind of the star which

:19:11. > :19:21.you would expect in a national park. But this weekend, the western end

:19:21. > :19:23.of the South Downs hosts high- octane sport.

:19:24. > :19:29.Apart from when we are up here, nobody is allowed up here. Nobody

:19:29. > :19:39.can see this view. We're bringing thousands to sample the National

:19:39. > :19:39.

:19:39. > :19:46.Park. Fears of noise pollution and destruction to locals proved

:19:46. > :19:50.largely unfounded. It joins a number of music festivals taking

:19:50. > :19:55.place nearby. You need to get revenue from wherever you can,

:19:55. > :19:58.toilets, hotels, carpenters. We have used every one local. If

:19:58. > :20:04.people can get jobs, they will spend money. If you spend money,

:20:04. > :20:08.then the economy will recover. the British team in Swanmore, a

:20:08. > :20:15.local round the World Championship is a welcome addition. Shall the

:20:15. > :20:22.foreigners hour area as opposed to dusty places that we go to. -- our

:20:22. > :20:27.area. Qualifying takes place tomorrow. The big races on Sunday

:20:27. > :20:32.afternoon. It will be a spectacle, guaranteed.

:20:32. > :20:37.Thrilling. It should be a cracking weekend. Football, and Southampton

:20:37. > :20:41.hope to continue their 100% start to the championship tomorrow. They

:20:41. > :20:46.won 5-2 on Tuesday and will be bidding to extend their unbeaten

:20:46. > :20:51.run to 10 matches. Millwall stand between then -- between them and a

:20:51. > :20:55.milestone. It will be the greatest league to watch this season. The

:20:55. > :21:00.competitive nature of every single game, you have to be on your game

:21:00. > :21:08.all the time. Decisions would go against you, they will call for you.

:21:08. > :21:12.They shot can go narrowly past the post. -- they will go for you.

:21:12. > :21:16.Brighton have agreed to sign Ryan Harley. He should complete his move

:21:16. > :21:26.next week. Albion are aiming for a 4th straight victory after

:21:26. > :21:27.

:21:27. > :21:32.Wednesday's when at Cardiff. -- win. Elsewhere in the championship,

:21:32. > :21:36.Reading are at home to Barnsley. Boosted by the return of Simon

:21:36. > :21:42.Church to the squad after a thigh injury.

:21:42. > :21:46.Portsmouth would give a first start to their new signing. Pompey will

:21:46. > :21:50.go to Bristol City in midweek. Bournemouth have made along the

:21:50. > :21:55.strip of the season to Carlisle without their captain. He was sent

:21:55. > :22:01.off in the midweek defeat to Stevenage. He is now suspended. In

:22:01. > :22:06.Lee two, Crawley could go top and Tom Davies is in line for a recall.

:22:07. > :22:13.The side look to continue their unbeaten run. Finally, Aldershot

:22:13. > :22:16.have travelled to more can. Dean Holdsworth has a fully-fit squad

:22:16. > :22:21.from which to choose. We will have the best of the

:22:21. > :22:25.football on Monday. In cricket, he rather later

:25:00. > :25:03.Plenty going on across the south and of course, this weekend, the

:25:03. > :25:09.weather is not looking too bad either. What a difference a day

:25:09. > :25:12.makes. After yesterday's deluge, today has been nicer. You can see

:25:12. > :25:16.from the satellite picture that we started with good blue skies

:25:16. > :25:21.overhead. Gradually seeing more and the way of cloud but much of that

:25:21. > :25:25.cloud was high cloud. Hazy sunshine rather than brilliant blue skies.

:25:25. > :25:29.Going through this evening, the cloud is building and we are not

:25:29. > :25:36.ruling out the chance of the odd shower. Overnight tonight, Sat to

:25:37. > :25:41.be milder than last night. Looking at temperatures between 13 and 15.

:25:41. > :25:46.Into the early hours of tomorrow morning, we may see some showers

:25:46. > :25:50.propping up. Perhaps a shower or two to greet us. As the day

:25:50. > :25:54.continues, we will see things drying out and some good, sunny

:25:55. > :25:58.breaks. Bright intervals through much of the day. Sunny spells to be

:25:58. > :26:05.enjoyed. Into the thing period, we will start to see another shower

:26:05. > :26:12.two propping up. Overnight, there are few more in store. Most of us

:26:12. > :26:16.staying dry. Another mile might ahead. -- mild night. Looking ahead

:26:16. > :26:26.to Sunday, not as bad as we thought. We will see a pretty decent day

:26:26. > :26:27.

:26:27. > :26:36.with some dampness first thing. Sunny spells, but warmer. Monday,

:26:36. > :26:39.we will have a weather alert in place, issued by the Met Office.

:26:39. > :26:44.Going into overnight period, that is when we could well see some

:26:44. > :26:49.heavy, possibly thundery showers. For Tuesday, it looks like we will

:26:49. > :26:53.see some rather wet conditions. So it will be all eyes on the skies in

:26:53. > :26:56.Bournemouth for the next few days. Hopefully not because of bad

:26:56. > :26:58.weather but because of those weather but because of those

:26:58. > :27:04.beautiful displays. Don't get yourself a stiff orange
