:00:02. > :00:04.Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's

:00:04. > :00:11.programme: Personal and confidential information of more

:00:11. > :00:14.than a thousand patients is lost. Recognition for its role in

:00:14. > :00:24.honouring military personnel, but who will pay for Wooten Bassett to

:00:24. > :00:26.

:00:26. > :00:29.become Royal? The Queen, she should pay it.

:00:29. > :00:31.Freedom in the forest. The first adventure trail for people with

:00:31. > :00:41.disabilities. And a final resting place. A

:00:41. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:54.memorial for the crew of a D Day The personal details of more than a

:00:54. > :00:56.thousand patients in the South have been lost after two data blunders.

:00:56. > :01:01.The East Surrey Hospital has admitted losing a memory stick

:01:01. > :01:04.containing the confidential medical details of 800 patients. Meanwhile,

:01:04. > :01:12.in Poole, two diaries containing the personal details of around 240

:01:12. > :01:15.patients were stolen from the boot of a midwife's car. And what makes

:01:15. > :01:21.the situation worse is that Poole Hospital NHS says it doesn't know

:01:21. > :01:30.exactly which patients have been affected. Roisin Gauson has been

:01:30. > :01:33.following the story and has this report.

:01:34. > :01:39.Poole hospital is the main port of call for expecting mothers in their

:01:39. > :01:44.area. It deals with patients from Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset.

:01:44. > :01:49.Those who use its services between September 2009 and December last

:01:49. > :01:53.year may have had details:, but this is not an isolated case. The

:01:53. > :01:58.confidential medical details of a further 800 people in Surrey are

:01:58. > :02:02.also missing following the loss of a memory stick. It went missing

:02:02. > :02:06.from the East Surrey Hospital in September last year. Both hospital

:02:06. > :02:11.say there is no evidence that the missing information has been used

:02:11. > :02:16.by anyone else. Poole hospital bills of around 6000

:02:16. > :02:21.patients each year and each midwife around 240. The diaries were the

:02:21. > :02:26.only records of who had been seen so the hospital cannot pin down his

:02:26. > :02:31.details have been stolen. The diaries contained information

:02:31. > :02:35.including names, addresses and contact numbers as well as details

:02:35. > :02:39.of previous visits. The hospital took the decision not to warn any

:02:39. > :02:46.of them that the breach in Data Protection had occurred.

:02:46. > :02:55.Dengie have a duty of care to let patients no? The issue we had is

:02:55. > :02:59.identifying people. We did not want to alarm people unnecessarily.

:02:59. > :03:03.Richard Drax represents a number of people who use the hospital. He

:03:03. > :03:13.feels the management should have been more open. I always believe

:03:13. > :03:14.

:03:14. > :03:19.honesty is best. Albeit an accident or very bad luck, I think if that

:03:19. > :03:23.is the case, it then I would like to know. Although the nurse his

:03:23. > :03:28.diaries were stolen did not do anything wrong, security measures

:03:28. > :03:32.have since been tightened up. All midwives are encouraged to use

:03:32. > :03:36.electronic diaries and told to make sure any additional information

:03:36. > :03:42.written down is kept to a minimum. Roisin Gauson is with me now.

:03:42. > :03:46.Roisin, what reassurance is being given to the patients tonight?

:03:46. > :03:52.Poole NHS Trust has told me that any information carried around by

:03:52. > :03:56.the nurses only a man has a small amount of information. In addition,

:03:56. > :04:01.electronic diaries are encrypted so a thief cannot access personal

:04:01. > :04:05.information. Those diaries are only an offer, some nurses are still

:04:05. > :04:13.using a paper diary, but are being told to keep them close at all

:04:13. > :04:18.times. Elsewhere, Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust says it is now using

:04:18. > :04:20.encrypted memory sticks to transfer the information and that the member

:04:20. > :04:23.of staff concerned has been disciplined and recede further

:04:23. > :04:26.training. Police have arrested two members of

:04:26. > :04:30.staff at a care home in Crawley on suspicion of ill-treatment and

:04:30. > :04:32.neglect. Orchid View in Copthorne specialises in dementia care. A 54-

:04:32. > :04:36.year-old woman from Godstone and a 48-year-old man from Burgess Hill

:04:36. > :04:40.have been released on bail. It is not yet known whether they're still

:04:40. > :04:50.working at the home. Residents have been given the option of moving

:04:50. > :04:59.

:04:59. > :05:05.elsewhere. A man has been arrested for the attack of a teenage girl.

:05:05. > :05:08.If 57 year-old man from Salsbury is being held on indecent assault and

:05:08. > :05:11.possessing a firearm. As you may have seen on the

:05:11. > :05:14.national news, the Prime Minister has rounded off the season of

:05:14. > :05:17.political conferences with a big speech in Manchester. Did he do

:05:17. > :05:19.enough to win over his supporters here in the South? Our Political

:05:19. > :05:27.Editor, Peter Henley, is in Manchester. What did party members

:05:27. > :05:29.make of Mr Cameron's rallying call? I think they were quite rallied. It

:05:29. > :05:37.was a speech about having a can-do attitude. "Energised not

:05:37. > :05:40.paralysed." difficult to do when the economic news is so challenging.

:05:40. > :05:42.There was praise for the South's contribution to the motor sports

:05:42. > :05:52.industry and the way Berkshire's Wellington College is partnering

:05:52. > :05:57.

:05:57. > :06:07.with academy schools. This was the reaction afterwards. We have a

:06:07. > :06:15.small business and her urbanisation has made a big difference. He is

:06:15. > :06:19.fantastic. Very inspirational. was getting going. He was

:06:20. > :06:27.definitely pressing some buttons. Very sombre with the way the

:06:27. > :06:30.economy is. I thought he came up to the end of it with a good crescendo

:06:30. > :06:33.and an uplifting message to us all. It hasn't been all smooth sailing

:06:33. > :06:42.with his supporters though, has it? There have been controversies over

:06:42. > :06:45.the council tax freeze and house building?

:06:45. > :06:50.It's been difficult for all three parties to present new ideas

:06:51. > :06:54.against a background of such bad economic news, hasn't it? A long

:06:54. > :06:59.section on house building. David Cameron saying I live in the south

:06:59. > :07:04.of England and will protect the countryside. For anyone who

:07:04. > :07:08.proposes -- opposes Development says -- he said it you can take

:07:08. > :07:16.your opposition to the JobCentre. House building in the south-east

:07:16. > :07:22.will be stimulus for growth in the economy. It is important for all

:07:22. > :07:31.parties to create a stimulus in bad economic times. Absolutely. Labour

:07:32. > :07:37.laying foundations for the future. As a coalition, they are very

:07:37. > :07:40.United. Over the years the Wiltshire town

:07:40. > :07:43.of Wootton Bassett has paid tribute to the many military servicemen and

:07:43. > :07:46.woman from the South. Now, in less than two weeks, the town itself

:07:46. > :07:52.will be honoured by becoming Royal Wootton Bassett. A special naming

:07:52. > :07:55.ceremony is being planned in celebration. But the town is

:07:55. > :08:01.worried about the cost and who will pay the 65,000 bill. Steve Knibbs

:08:01. > :08:06.explains. Nearly 350 fallen soldiers have now

:08:06. > :08:11.passed along this famous High Street. Support was unwavering and

:08:11. > :08:16.that support has led to a royal status. It is an honour that has

:08:16. > :08:21.come at a cost. Some of the cost are additional because we are

:08:21. > :08:28.expecting people from out of town. If it was just how people, the cost

:08:28. > :08:35.would be lower. We have to put on parking for about 4000 cars. All of

:08:35. > :08:41.these things cost. The bill and 65,000 has to come from the

:08:41. > :08:46.council. An appeal has already brought in 10,000, but people are

:08:46. > :08:52.clear about who they think should pay. The Queen. She should pay it.

:08:52. > :08:58.She has more money than any of us. I do not think we should have to

:08:58. > :09:04.pay at all. Why bestow and on I knew and then say you have to pay

:09:04. > :09:08.65,000 for it. I suppose we will all contribute, but especially the

:09:08. > :09:15.government because it is a royal thing. The many things aside, there

:09:15. > :09:20.is still great pride in this town. We were not doing this for any

:09:20. > :09:24.reward, we were doing it to show our respect for what soldiers have

:09:24. > :09:34.done. That was it. We did not expect to be rewarded for what we

:09:34. > :09:35.

:09:35. > :09:45.have done. It is just a natural thing that we should do. Welcome to

:09:45. > :09:45.

:09:45. > :09:55.Wootton Bassett! Soon to become England's third Royal Town. One on

:09:55. > :09:59.

:09:59. > :10:02.toper 16, the Princess Royal will be here to bestow royal status.

:10:02. > :10:12.Still to come in this evening's South Today: Weather and sport with

:10:12. > :10:16.

:10:16. > :10:26.Reham and Kris. I will be here with this bought.

:10:26. > :10:31.

:10:31. > :10:36.And autumn returns tomorrow, but is Police are hunting a man who

:10:36. > :10:41.attacked students on Tuesday night's consecutively last month.

:10:41. > :10:45.He is seen here following one of his victims before assaulting her.

:10:45. > :10:48.The man is described as being in his early twenties.

:10:48. > :10:51.Explosives dating back many years and discovered in a lay-by on a

:10:51. > :10:53.busy Dorset road were safely detonated today. The explosives,

:10:54. > :10:58.with wires attached, were found inside a boulder alongside other

:10:58. > :11:00.rocks on the road between Wareham and Wool. It's thought the device

:11:00. > :11:06.was left over from construction clearance work, possibly from as

:11:06. > :11:09.long ago as the 19th century. Campaigners concerned for the

:11:09. > :11:14.future of a historic Sussex lido have staged a demonstration there

:11:14. > :11:17.this afternoon. They believe the leaseholder of Saltdean Lido is

:11:17. > :11:21.deliberately letting the business fail, so the site can be

:11:21. > :11:29.redeveloped. But he insists that's not the case. Chrissie Reidy

:11:29. > :11:35.reports. It was hailed as the most

:11:35. > :11:41.innovative design of its kind in Britain and after -- and

:11:41. > :11:45.architectural treasure. Campaigners insist Saltdean lido is purposely

:11:45. > :11:50.being run down so the site can be redeveloped. We definitely feel

:11:50. > :11:59.that this building has been forgotten. We want the council to

:11:59. > :12:04.start legal proceedings to get the lease back. Dennis Audley he took

:12:04. > :12:08.over the lease says campaigners have no need to worry. It is my

:12:08. > :12:16.intention to restore the building in the future and to maintain it

:12:16. > :12:21.permanently. To do that, we have to have some development on a lot less

:12:21. > :12:29.a scale and it will not pick on the front of the building. In 2010,

:12:29. > :12:33.plans were put forward to fill in the outdoors Paul unbilled 40 flats.

:12:33. > :12:42.Campaigners formed the save Saltdean lido group to says the

:12:42. > :12:48.site. Rumours that we are going to not the place down or fill the ball

:12:48. > :12:53.in all build a block of flats... That is not happening? That is

:12:53. > :12:59.definitely not happening. If anybody knows about planning

:12:59. > :13:02.regulations, you cannot knock down a great to building. The people are

:13:02. > :13:06.sending a clear message, we will not let flats be developed on this

:13:06. > :13:12.site. The city council say they will do

:13:12. > :13:18.whatever is necessary to ensure the future of this building is safe and

:13:18. > :13:22.remains a complete -- community facility.

:13:22. > :13:31.Lollipop men and women in Dorset are set to lose their jobs. The

:13:31. > :13:36.county council has reduced crossing patrol from 51-61 -- and 61-51.

:13:36. > :13:45.Patrols have been their subject of conversation by parents.

:13:45. > :13:52.One of the Isle of Wight top tourist rest could be run by a

:13:52. > :13:55.community group. It will save 300,000. The gardens were founded

:13:55. > :13:58.in 1970. An ancient mill pond in West Sussex,

:13:58. > :14:01.which supports a rich bird community in the area, could be

:14:01. > :14:05.drained. The large pond in Crawley needs repairs which could cost up

:14:05. > :14:15.to 8 million. Now the council is asking residents if it should pay

:14:15. > :14:25.

:14:25. > :14:35.Could soon be no more. It is fed by their it refer mall. The water mill

:14:35. > :14:35.

:14:35. > :14:40.here was reconsider she -- reconditioned recently. To actually

:14:40. > :14:45.do any repairs of the dam, we have to remove the water from the lake.

:14:46. > :14:49.At the same time we are doing that, it has to be closed off. We saw

:14:49. > :14:54.there were opportunities to de sold the lake. Then I'll parts where

:14:54. > :14:59.ducks can now walk across. council is consulting residents.

:14:59. > :15:04.The cheapest option would be to train the pond. That would cost

:15:04. > :15:12.three or 4 million. Alternatively for 68 million it could be

:15:12. > :15:16.partially trained leaving an number of smaller palms. All 45 to 8

:15:16. > :15:21.million the dam could be fully rebuilt, all the silt removed and

:15:21. > :15:26.the pond restored. That is the preferred option of the Local

:15:26. > :15:31.History Society and many who come here to enjoy the beauty spot.

:15:31. > :15:37.is Heritage, isn't it? It is such a shame if it all goes. It has been

:15:37. > :15:42.there for donkey's years, they should keep it. Spend the 8

:15:42. > :15:46.million. Mel only waste it on something else. The council will

:15:46. > :15:52.make a decision next spring, but it will be two or three years before

:15:52. > :15:55.work gets under way here. The UK's first interactive forest

:15:55. > :15:57.adventure trail for people with disabilities opened today at Alice

:15:57. > :16:00.Holt Forest in Hampshire. The project is a joint effort between

:16:00. > :16:03.the Forestry Commission and the Treloar Trust, which provides

:16:03. > :16:13.specialist care for young people with disabilities. Sarah Holmes

:16:13. > :16:15.

:16:15. > :16:19.reports. For the students, this was a rare

:16:19. > :16:25.opportunity to experience the Forest up close. The trail allows

:16:25. > :16:30.the user to get really close to the trees and vegetation. Particularly

:16:30. > :16:35.this Ben, we are so pleased with that. It enabled disabled people to

:16:35. > :16:40.do what able-bodied children love to do. I think I can see and

:16:40. > :16:46.knobbly nose. Before the trial was hard work for wheelchairs, but now

:16:46. > :16:50.it is easy to negotiate so people can move around independently. The

:16:50. > :16:55.staff have also designed a communication book so users can

:16:55. > :17:04.talk about their experience. It is a dream come true that my kids have

:17:04. > :17:12.come back and they have enjoyed the trail. I can quite clearly see that

:17:12. > :17:17.they have put in a hard FO into making it accessible. I think that

:17:17. > :17:22.it is a lovely place to be. Forestry Commission says it hopes

:17:22. > :17:32.the work will be used as an example for other trails so that more

:17:32. > :17:38.

:17:38. > :17:40.people with disabilities can have access to the UK woodlands.

:17:40. > :17:43.Aldershot Town have announced ticket details for this month's

:17:43. > :17:46.glamour Carling Cup tie at home to Manchester United. These were the

:17:46. > :17:51.scenes when the Shots were paired with probably the biggest club in

:17:51. > :17:55.the world. And there's sure to be a clamour for tickets, with the match

:17:55. > :17:58.set to be a 7,000 sell-out. It's the biggest game in the re-formed

:17:58. > :18:01.club's short history. Season ticket holders will be able to buy their

:18:01. > :18:04.tickets from next Wednesday. And if you went to the win over Rochdale

:18:04. > :18:07.in the previous round, you can get your Manchester United tickets from

:18:07. > :18:10.Saturday the 15th. Well, while all eyes are on that

:18:10. > :18:13.Carling Cup tie, it wasn't a good night for Aldershot in the

:18:13. > :18:20.Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Here's the pick of the action from last

:18:20. > :18:22.night's matches. All the action came in the second

:18:22. > :18:27.All the action came in the second half as Aldershot gave themselves

:18:27. > :18:34.too much to do. The visitors went in front four minutes after the

:18:34. > :18:40.interval. Young had no chance with the second three minutes later. A

:18:40. > :18:48.fine finish doubling Oxford's advantage. The shops were given a

:18:48. > :18:53.lifeline 14 minutes from the end. A clinical first-half performance

:18:53. > :19:01.helps the Bournemouth past Yeovil. Two goals sent them on their way.

:19:01. > :19:11.The second, thanks to questionable defending. It was 3-0 after half-

:19:11. > :19:12.

:19:12. > :19:18.an-hour. Yeovil rallied to score twice in the second half, but it

:19:18. > :19:19.was too little too late. Portsmouth are hosting a friendly

:19:19. > :19:22.Portsmouth are hosting a friendly against Russian side FC Rostov

:19:22. > :19:25.tonight. It's to raise money for families affected by a plane crash,

:19:25. > :19:28.in which an entire ice hockey team were killed. Many players and

:19:28. > :19:32.officials from Lokomotiv Yaroslavl were among the 44 people lost when

:19:32. > :19:34.their plane crashed on the way to a game last month. A number of those

:19:34. > :19:39.killed were known to Pompey's Russian owners Vladimir Antonov and

:19:39. > :19:48.Roman Dubov. Admission at Fratton Park tonight is just two pounds.

:19:48. > :19:52.Kick off is 7.30pm. The World Cup winner's medal went under the

:19:52. > :19:57.hammer today. The 72 year-old was a member of the squad when they

:19:57. > :20:03.lifted the trophy in 1966, but he only received the medal two years

:20:03. > :20:05.ago. A buyer paid 22,000 for the items today.

:20:05. > :20:08.Organisers of this month's Great South Run have announced their

:20:08. > :20:11.first major signing for the event. Double world marathon champion Abel

:20:11. > :20:21.Kirui from Kenya heads the elite field in the ten-mile race, which

:20:21. > :20:28.

:20:28. > :20:38.takes place in Portsmouth and Southsea at the end of the month. A

:20:38. > :20:40.

:20:40. > :20:44.very poignant story we have now. It sank in the Solent more than 60

:20:44. > :20:48.years ago with the loss of 13 lives. Now a search is on to find the

:20:48. > :20:51.families of those who died on the D Day landing craft. The idea is to

:20:51. > :20:54.carry out a special memorial service which is being organised by

:20:54. > :21:00.the Southsea branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club. Mark Sanders has the

:21:00. > :21:05.story. The crew were so close to home after being in harm's way, but

:21:05. > :21:10.in the approach to Portsmouth Harbour, the landing craft was

:21:10. > :21:16.swallowed by the sea. It was lost in a terrible accident claiming all

:21:16. > :21:21.13 lives on board. Nearly 70 years on, in the murk of the Solent, the

:21:21. > :21:28.wreck was identified by the Southsea sub-aqua Club. The divers

:21:28. > :21:32.got special permission to survey their Rec. People were lost and

:21:32. > :21:41.this was their final resting place so we have made sure not to disturb

:21:41. > :21:48.anything. Because it is dark and gloomy, the visibility is not good

:21:48. > :21:57.at times, but that adds to the atmosphere of it. This is it, they

:21:57. > :22:04.are on the beach plunging waist- deep. LCD 47 was part of the D-Day

:22:04. > :22:08.armada. It's she was returning to Portsmouth when disaster struck.

:22:08. > :22:13.And 7th June, 1944 and four miles from shore, she was in collision

:22:13. > :22:20.with the battleships. The landing craft was sliced into. Of the 13

:22:20. > :22:23.crew, only one man was recovered but he died. The divers are

:22:23. > :22:29.organising a memorial service at sea and are trying to trace

:22:29. > :22:33.surviving families and comrade of the men who died. He for two months

:22:33. > :22:38.of the loss of the landing craft was not reported so a lot of

:22:38. > :22:43.families did not know what happened. This is the first opportunity they

:22:43. > :22:50.have had in those 70 years to actually played -- paid their last
