:00:01. > :00:04.Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today. In tonight's

:00:04. > :00:07.programme... Betrayed - the woman who had

:00:07. > :00:17.explicit photos of her posted on the internet by the stalker who

:00:17. > :00:18.

:00:18. > :00:22.turned out to be her boyfriend. looked into my eyes and said so I

:00:22. > :00:25.promise you, I would never do anything like this to you.

:00:25. > :00:27.The driver who killed a mother at this bus stop is given a community

:00:27. > :00:35.service order. Copycat camping - tents spring up

:00:35. > :00:38.as St Paul's peaceful protest moves south. People may not be able to

:00:38. > :00:42.come down and occupy with us, but they do what they can, which is

:00:42. > :00:52.appreciated. And through the lens - the photos

:00:52. > :00:54.

:00:54. > :00:58.that highlight a photographer's "I was intentionally controlled,

:00:58. > :01:01.belittled and harmed". The words of a 22-year-old Southampton woman

:01:01. > :01:06.harassed for more than a year by a mystery stalker, who turned out to

:01:06. > :01:09.be her boyfriend. Ruth Jeffrey even considered taking her own life

:01:09. > :01:15.after naked photos of her were posted on social networking sites

:01:15. > :01:19.and explicit emails sent to to her friends and family. Today Shane

:01:19. > :01:27.Webber was given four months in prison. Sarah-Jane Bungay has the

:01:27. > :01:32.story. Ruth Jeffrey hasn't had many

:01:32. > :01:38.reasons to smile over the past year and a half. In April 2010, she

:01:38. > :01:42.became the target of a sustained online campaign of harassment. The

:01:42. > :01:45.stalker tied sexually explicit photos of Ruth upon social

:01:45. > :01:49.networking site staff to draw them to the attention of her family and

:01:49. > :01:54.friends. The emails male acquaintances pretending to be

:01:54. > :01:58.raised, attaching graphic images of her and even sent pictures directly

:01:58. > :02:03.to her mother and father, causing Ruth and her parents a great deal

:02:03. > :02:07.of success -- distress. The pictures had been taken by her

:02:07. > :02:11.long-term boyfriend, Shane Webber. He claimed they had been stolen

:02:11. > :02:14.from his computer, but Ruth's parents suspected him and

:02:14. > :02:18.eventually there was a confrontation. He looked into my

:02:18. > :02:22.eyes and said he could never do anything like this to me. Then he

:02:22. > :02:26.would start swearing on his family's life. After his denial,

:02:26. > :02:30.the campaign against Ruth stepped up. It was spurred on by her

:02:30. > :02:33.decision to have an abortion after finding out she was pregnant with

:02:33. > :02:38.the baby of Shane Webber. He was eventually uncovered by Ruth's

:02:39. > :02:43.father, he tracks down the source of the emails. It had a massive

:02:43. > :02:49.impact on everything I do in my day-to-day life. Trust has been my

:02:49. > :02:54.main issues. I feel as if I'm being watched all the time. I constantly

:02:54. > :02:58.look over my shoulder. Sentencing Shane Webber to four a

:02:58. > :03:02.month and present, the judge said it was a gross breach of trust and

:03:02. > :03:05.confidence. He also handed down a five year restraining order,

:03:05. > :03:10.meaning Shane Webber has to stay away from Ruth Jeffrey and other

:03:10. > :03:13.members of her family. The maximum sentence he could have got will

:03:13. > :03:18.never match their hell it has put me through. Over all, I am

:03:18. > :03:21.extremely pleased that I can put everything behind me.

:03:21. > :03:26.A woman who crashed her car into a Reading bus shelter killing a woman

:03:26. > :03:29.and seriously injuring her young son has walked free from court. The

:03:29. > :03:31.judge told Lola Olayemi that sending her to prison would serve

:03:31. > :03:34.no justice and he imposed a 12 month community order instead,

:03:34. > :03:43.after she admitted causing death by careless driving. Roisin Gauson is

:03:43. > :03:48.at the scene of the accident. What happened that day?

:03:48. > :03:52.It was lunchtime on 20th February this year. Lola Olayemi was driving

:03:52. > :03:56.down from the Lord Henley Road to the town centre. She was in her

:03:56. > :04:00.black Toyota. There were nine people standing at the bus-stop

:04:00. > :04:04.just down the road in front of me. As she came down, witness reports

:04:04. > :04:08.read out that she came round the corner but failed to straight not

:04:08. > :04:12.for the main line. She continued in her Arc, hit the bollard adjacent

:04:12. > :04:18.to the main bus shelter, then crossed into the main shelter

:04:18. > :04:22.itself, causing the glass roof to fall down. It was that action which

:04:22. > :04:26.caused the fatal head injuries to the mother.

:04:26. > :04:32.Has this been a terrible tragedy for the victim's family?

:04:32. > :04:36.Yes. This son is now in his grandfather's care. He is 71 years

:04:36. > :04:39.old. They victim statement was read out on his behalf today in the

:04:40. > :04:44.court, saying the death of his daughter left a big black: his life.

:04:44. > :04:47.He fears for his future and the future of his grandson. He

:04:47. > :04:51.describes it as a nightmare with no end.

:04:51. > :04:56.Do we know why she crashed into the bus stop?

:04:56. > :04:59.That really was not clear in court today. The court heard how Lola

:04:59. > :05:03.Olayemi was not under the influence of drink and drugs and was not on

:05:03. > :05:08.her telephone or speeding. She only lived 300 yards away and was

:05:08. > :05:12.familiar with the area. The judge said the tragic accident was caused

:05:12. > :05:15.by inattention of three seconds at the most. It was an attention that

:05:15. > :05:20.deprived a loving father of his daughter and a nine-year-old boy of

:05:20. > :05:24.his mother. Lola Olayemi was disqualified from driving for a

:05:24. > :05:28.year and given 240 hours community order.

:05:28. > :05:31.The mother of a young man who died in a hit and run in West Sussex has

:05:31. > :05:34.appealed for a man wanted for questioning to hand himself in.

:05:34. > :05:37.Kalan Fletcher was killed just over a week ago in Hassocks while

:05:37. > :05:42.walking home. Sussex Police want to talk to Imran Shaukat, who had been

:05:42. > :05:46.living in Worthing. Mark Sanders reports.

:05:46. > :05:52.They are still trying to come to terms with the loss of a much-loved

:05:52. > :05:58.brother and son. Kalan Fletcher was just 23, killed in a hit and run in

:05:59. > :06:03.West Sussex just over one week ago. What can Pines agree for his family

:06:03. > :06:08.is that a man wanted in questioning is still at large. Today, they made

:06:08. > :06:13.this appeal. Please hand yourself in. I know it must be hard for you

:06:13. > :06:23.as well, but please hand yourself then. Please hand yourself them.

:06:23. > :06:25.

:06:25. > :06:31.Sorry. Find yourself saying to let us at peace. I loved my brother so

:06:31. > :06:35.much and just wish she could be here with us now. This is the man

:06:35. > :06:39.Sussex police want to interview - Shane Webber won a - a 22-year-old

:06:39. > :06:43.Pakistani national he was living in Worthing. Officers say he might

:06:43. > :06:48.hold vital information on the hit and run in Hassocks. They have

:06:48. > :06:51.already recovered if Ford Transit van thought to have been involved.

:06:51. > :06:57.Shane Webber 1 is suspected of overstaying his student the surf

:06:57. > :07:02.and the UK Border Agency is so helping with the investigation.

:07:02. > :07:07.While officers are trying to piece together what happened, Kalan

:07:07. > :07:11.Fletcher's family are trying to piece it together. I am beside

:07:11. > :07:17.thyself. He was such a good kid. Always joking and laughing about.

:07:17. > :07:20.He will be sadly missed. Sussex police have appealed for her that

:07:20. > :07:23.the accused man to come forward or for anyone to know where he is to

:07:23. > :07:26.contact them. An unusual planning protest took

:07:26. > :07:30.place today with residents calling on the local council to "save our

:07:30. > :07:35.island". They're unhappy at plans for new housing on Hayling Island.

:07:35. > :07:38.There are around 8,500 homes at present. The council wants to

:07:38. > :07:42.earmark land for a further 550 and residents say the area won't be

:07:42. > :07:51.able to cope. But with 5,000 on the housing waiting list in Havant, the

:07:51. > :07:55.council says new development is badly needed. Sean Killick reports.

:07:55. > :08:02.It is farm land at the moment, but one day, there could be 100 homes

:08:02. > :08:05.here. And 160 could be build on this field. In total, 550 new

:08:05. > :08:09.houses could be constructed on Hayling Island over the next 15

:08:09. > :08:14.years. But residents say the health centre and schools are already at

:08:14. > :08:21.capacity. There are often jams on the one road on to the island and

:08:21. > :08:25.over-development could to affect the tourist industry. People could

:08:25. > :08:29.say, don't go to Ireland Life, you can't get on a off. There is no

:08:29. > :08:35.point. All they're doing is making it into a housing estate. --

:08:35. > :08:41.Hayling Island. The attractions would be damaged, Auld and

:08:41. > :08:48.diminished. A 4,500 signature petition was handed into the

:08:48. > :08:53.council today. I asked protesters if they were scared of being

:08:53. > :08:56.labelled and in these? That is a possibility. We are renowned for

:08:56. > :09:02.our wind surfing and boating and surely they should recognise that

:09:02. > :09:06.it is a holiday island. It is not an urban sprawl and did come to act

:09:06. > :09:11.like that. It is a holiday place. That is how people want to see it

:09:11. > :09:16.kept, to some extent. However, the council says the island has to take

:09:16. > :09:20.its share of the new homes needed in the burrow.

:09:20. > :09:24.We have 2000 people on the island. What about their children and

:09:25. > :09:28.dependence? Will they move off the island? Will the businesses close?

:09:28. > :09:32.Where are the low-cost workers going to be? What will they do? You

:09:32. > :09:37.have to provide houses for them. They will not be there. People will

:09:37. > :09:42.not have services. Communities died. They have to move forward.

:09:42. > :09:45.Residents are worried the island's character could be lost forever.

:09:45. > :09:49.Police in Wiltshire have arrested a man on suspicion of stealing a

:09:49. > :09:53.bronze war memorial statue. The figure of a First World War soldier

:09:53. > :09:57.was taken from outside the British Legion club in Tidworth last week.

:09:57. > :10:01.It's the focal point of Remembrance Services there. A 22-year-old man

:10:01. > :10:04.of no fixed abode was arrested and released on bail. Detectives say

:10:04. > :10:08.they're no nearer to finding the statue.

:10:08. > :10:10.A jury at the inquest into the deaths of two bank robbers shot

:10:10. > :10:14.dead by the Metropolitan Police has heard officers discussed the

:10:14. > :10:18.possibility of arresting them on their way to a raid on a cash van

:10:18. > :10:20.in Chandlers Ford in Hampshire. On the morning of the shooting, police

:10:20. > :10:24.received intelligence they had armour-piercing bullets and were on

:10:24. > :10:27.the way to Hampshire. Retired Hampshire Assistant Chief Constable

:10:27. > :10:34.Steve Watts said his preferred option was an arrest before they

:10:34. > :10:37.arrived. A father today broke down in tears

:10:37. > :10:41.as he described how he tried in vain to save his six-year-old

:10:41. > :10:44.daughter from a fire at their Crawley home. Donald Sibanda was

:10:44. > :10:48.giving evidence at the start of the trial of the man accused of

:10:48. > :10:58.murdering six-year-old Dumo. George Sithole denies murder and setting

:10:58. > :11:05.fire to their home in 2004. Paul Siegert was in court.

:11:05. > :11:12.Shane Webber 2, who we can be identified for legal reasons --

:11:12. > :11:16.excuse two - arrived at his trial. He is accused of killing Dumo by

:11:16. > :11:20.setting fire to her home in 2004. Her father and a friend barrister

:11:20. > :11:24.jump to safety, but the six-year- old was found unconscious in her

:11:24. > :11:27.bedroom and died later of her injuries. Investigators found

:11:27. > :11:33.petrol was poured through the window and ignited. Breaking down

:11:33. > :11:37.in tears, her father, Donald Sibanda, told of how he ran to his

:11:37. > :11:40.daughter's bedroom but could not find her because of thick smoke. He

:11:41. > :11:45.then jumped out of his own bedroom window, ran round to the back and

:11:45. > :11:48.tried to get into a daughter's bedroom so with a ladder for such a

:11:48. > :11:52.huge fireball beaten back. If family friend had a relationship

:11:52. > :11:57.with the accused and had recently ended - they were also there that

:11:57. > :12:02.night. The prosecution told the court that the accused's motives or

:12:02. > :12:06.was jealousy. He was convinced his girlfriend was having an affair.

:12:06. > :12:10.CCTV cameras earlier that day showed him buying a box of matches.

:12:10. > :12:15.The prosecution also claimed that teapot two litres of petrol, which

:12:15. > :12:18.he later used to start the fire. Two days after the murder, the

:12:18. > :12:22.accused later South Africa before being extradited back to the UK

:12:23. > :12:25.last year. He denies murder and two Council are some. It continues

:12:25. > :12:28.tomorrow. More jobs could go at West

:12:28. > :12:30.Berkshire Council over the next few months, according to the council

:12:30. > :12:34.leader. Councillor Graham Jones says 200 workers have lost their

:12:34. > :12:37.jobs over the last year because of cuts to government funding. He says

:12:37. > :12:39.the council is trying to protect the most vital services. But he

:12:39. > :12:42.admitted outside organisations may take over some services. Unions

:12:42. > :12:44.fear another 60 jobs will go over the next few months.

:12:44. > :12:47.The government has awarded grants to four companies in the South,

:12:47. > :12:49.under the Regional Growth Fund initiative. In Weymouth, Universal

:12:49. > :12:51.Engineering has received funding to expand into undersea oil and gas.

:12:51. > :13:01.The Portsmouth naval base, Solent Enterprise Partnership, and

:13:01. > :13:08.

:13:08. > :13:12.Southampton City Council also Still to come this evening...

:13:12. > :13:21.A record-breaking Great South Run. Up to 20,000 runners pound the

:13:21. > :13:24.streets of Portsmouth to raise money for charities.

:13:24. > :13:27.As you may have seen in the national news, the Dean of St

:13:27. > :13:31.Paul's Cathedral in London resigned today following weeks of protest by

:13:31. > :13:34.anti-capitalist protestors. It has been part of a series of

:13:34. > :13:37.occupations around the world. Now, two more camps have joined in

:13:38. > :13:41.Bournemouth and Brighton. Those taking part say it is a peaceful

:13:41. > :13:46.environment for debate. And as long as they stay that way, council

:13:46. > :13:52.bosses say there will be no evictions.

:13:52. > :13:56.It is a protest that has spread across the globe. The Brighton camp

:13:56. > :14:02.is one of the newest, tweedy is old and slowly growing. They are

:14:02. > :14:08.wanting to stop capitalism and change the system. There are

:14:08. > :14:13.offshore bank accounts with huge numbers. That is for 1% and 99% are

:14:13. > :14:17.finding things difficult. So I'm very proud to be part of the

:14:17. > :14:22.occupying movement that draws attention to that. In Bournemouth,

:14:22. > :14:29.a modest protest, but the early days. Protesters say they are

:14:29. > :14:32.getting lots of support. People have donated things, we have had

:14:32. > :14:39.sleeping bags donated, people not being able to come down but doing

:14:39. > :14:44.what they can. And people walking back were supportive. Even a

:14:44. > :14:50.stockbroker. I came down to give them cups of tea, biscuits, talked

:14:50. > :14:55.to them, it to get them about the real problems. -- educate them.

:14:55. > :15:00.They are all angry, but the to be angry with the reason. There are

:15:00. > :15:05.all ideas about what replaces the present system. Is it possible to

:15:05. > :15:11.change anything? Perhaps we will change nothing. Perhaps we can

:15:11. > :15:16.create a global revolution. city council told me that it allows

:15:16. > :15:24.peaceful protest, but if the camp causes disruption, action will be

:15:24. > :15:30.taken. Everybody needs good neighbours, as

:15:30. > :15:33.the team would say. But how true is that? Tonight's Inside Out is

:15:33. > :15:38.putting the Government's Big Society idea to the test at a tower

:15:38. > :15:41.block in Portsmouth. Handsworth House has 154 flats. But the people

:15:41. > :15:44.who live there say there is no community spirit. Jon Cuthill went

:15:44. > :15:50.to the flat with Gerry Stoker from Southampton University, who came up

:15:50. > :15:54.with the Big Society idea. Handsworth House in Portsmouth, 154

:15:54. > :16:00.flats over 17 floors and a million miles away from Westminster. The

:16:00. > :16:05.Big Society is about a huge culture change. A country that feels like a

:16:05. > :16:13.community, building a better and stronger society. The Big Society,

:16:13. > :16:18.the call to action for communities, with just one problem. You can go

:16:19. > :16:21.three months without seeing a neighbour. People are no longer

:16:21. > :16:28.interested in neighbours, in loyalty in Neighbours, in

:16:28. > :16:32.friendship with the neighbours. anyone can kick-start a community,

:16:32. > :16:39.it is this man, Gerry Stoker, who call of a peerage and will report

:16:39. > :16:42.the Government used to form its Big Society idea. -- who co-wrote the

:16:42. > :16:48.support. If you are going to create the Big Society, you need people

:16:48. > :16:51.with skills and resources. That is not evenly distributed among

:16:51. > :16:56.society. The focus on practicalities about creating the

:16:56. > :17:01.Big Society, often in difficult circumstances. Any community needs

:17:01. > :17:06.individuals to help start changed. It is the help given to these

:17:06. > :17:09.people that is so important for ideas like the Big Society to work.

:17:09. > :17:19.We need to think hard about supporting and giving strength and

:17:19. > :17:23.courage to carry on. That is what been very difficult circumstances.

:17:23. > :17:28.And you can find out how he gets on during tonight's Inside Out on BBC

:17:28. > :17:30.One at 7:30pm. A Portsmouth University student,

:17:30. > :17:36.virtually paralysed by an incurable condition, has created an

:17:36. > :17:44.exhibition of startling pictures. Tyran Hawthorn hopes they will show

:17:44. > :17:50.what life is like for people with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. It's a

:17:51. > :17:55.condition which affects about 1500 boys and young men.

:17:55. > :18:04.What hard these images? In fact, they are through to taken in

:18:04. > :18:13.extreme close-up by Tyran Hawthorn. It references the Dickey of my body.

:18:13. > :18:17.It is to help raise awareness the effect of the conditions. He has a

:18:17. > :18:23.life shortening condition that wastes the muscles. He can move

:18:23. > :18:28.just two fingers of one hand, his eyes and his mouth. Each photograph

:18:28. > :18:32.can take two hours to capture. is wonderful that he has been able

:18:32. > :18:38.to get something out of life, actually been able to do something

:18:38. > :18:42.that he really enjoys. About 100 boys per year are born with this

:18:42. > :18:48.condition and many need wheelchairs by the time they are 12. There is

:18:48. > :18:53.no known cure. This Professor at the University where Tyran is

:18:53. > :18:57.studying has been run -- has been researching the condition for 19

:18:57. > :19:04.years. Currently, we do not have a treatment that would stop the

:19:04. > :19:12.muscle-wasting and damage. However, the recent trials are by far the

:19:12. > :19:16.most promising and there is a great hope with these new developments.

:19:16. > :19:24.Tyran may struggle to communicate, but his strange, disturbing and

:19:24. > :19:30.oddly beautiful pictures have their own message.

:19:30. > :19:33.Extraordinary and startling pictures. And that free exhibition

:19:33. > :19:38.is open to the public from tomorrow at the University of Portsmouth. It

:19:38. > :19:44.is definitely worth going to see. In a moment, we have great pictures

:19:44. > :19:49.from the Great South Run. But sport starts with the football and one in

:19:49. > :19:54.particular. Definitely goal of the weekend. Southampton looking strong.

:19:54. > :20:01.If they can get away from injuries, be a serious Premier League

:20:01. > :20:11.contenders. Looking at the goals with which the East passed middles

:20:11. > :20:21.

:20:21. > :20:26.Brough. -- with which the team East -- eased past Middlesborough. Not

:20:26. > :20:36.every football programme showed all these goals. This is their camp

:20:36. > :20:46.
