:00:02. > :00:05.Hello, I'm Sally Taylor. Welcome to South Today.

:00:05. > :00:07.In tonight's programme: Help us solve the mystery - a

:00:07. > :00:17.family's plea over their missing daughter three decades after her

:00:17. > :00:19.

:00:19. > :00:22.disappearance. Any mother out there who has lost a child even for a

:00:22. > :00:25.minute will know what that panic is like.

:00:25. > :00:28.A former Cunard employee is charged with sexual assault of a child

:00:28. > :00:31.whilst working for the company. An inquest hears of a teenager's

:00:31. > :00:41.final moments after a light aircraft crashed killing him and

:00:41. > :00:42.

:00:42. > :00:49.his instructor. And the stable hand who got to say

:00:49. > :00:52.thank you to the emergency service which came to her rescue.

:00:52. > :00:54.The Hampshire family of a toddler who went missing more than 30 years

:00:54. > :01:01.ago is calling for an independent investigation into how military

:01:01. > :01:03.police handled her disappearance. Katrice Lee hasn't been seen since

:01:03. > :01:09.she vanished from a supermarket near a military base in Paderborn

:01:09. > :01:15.in Germany. Our Home Affairs Correspondent Alex Forsyth has been

:01:15. > :01:21.to Gosport to speak to her mother, Sharon Lee. Any mother out there

:01:21. > :01:28.who has lost a child even for two or three minutes, will know what

:01:28. > :01:34.that panic is like. It is an awful feeling. He goes away when you see

:01:34. > :01:40.your child. For the past 30 years it has never left me. Katrice Lee

:01:40. > :01:46.went missing on her second birthday. She was with her family buying

:01:46. > :01:51.things at a supermarket in Germany near the military base where her

:01:51. > :01:59.father was stationed. She left her for just a moment and Katrice Lee

:01:59. > :02:02.had gone. It is Yves she vanished into thin air. Military police

:02:02. > :02:07.thought she had walked to a nearby river and drowned but her body was

:02:07. > :02:11.never found and her family don't believe that is what happened.

:02:11. > :02:21.believe she has been abducted and I have always believed that. There is

:02:21. > :02:22.

:02:22. > :02:27.no way my daughter got out of that not be that morning unassisted.

:02:27. > :02:30.sister believes she is still alive. Mum and I go down to the beach on

:02:30. > :02:38.her birthday and that a blue enough in the hope that somebody might see

:02:38. > :02:41.it and think, I think I might be her or something like that.

:02:41. > :02:48.daughter's disappearance in Germany has never been classified as a

:02:48. > :02:56.crime, it is still called accident. A two year-old trialled has gone

:02:56. > :03:00.missing. It is not a crime. We have not had the support from the

:03:00. > :03:05.military. It has been hard to keep her highlighted in the press. She

:03:05. > :03:09.has become the forgotten girl. family is fighting for an

:03:09. > :03:14.independent review of the case among the military police to hand

:03:14. > :03:24.over the original files. So far the MoD has refused but say the

:03:24. > :03:32.

:03:32. > :03:37.investigation is being re-examined. I am never giving up hope of

:03:37. > :03:42.finding my daughter. It is my belief 31 years ago if the police

:03:42. > :03:47.had acted promptly and more efficiently, and may not have to be

:03:47. > :03:55.sitting here talking to you today. I could have both my daughters with

:03:55. > :03:58.A man has been found guilty of harassing his ex-girlfriend and

:03:58. > :04:01.setting fire to her mother's home. Al Amin Dhalla was convicted at

:04:01. > :04:06.Lewes Crown Court of harassing Alison Hewitt and her mother Pamela

:04:06. > :04:09.Hewitt. He was also found guilty of arson after setting fire to Pamela

:04:09. > :04:19.Hewitt's home in Buckinghamshire and starting a fire at a police

:04:19. > :04:22.station. He was found not guilty of two charges. Our reporter Mark

:04:22. > :04:30.Sanders has been in court, and joins me now. Mark, what happened

:04:30. > :04:34.The jury have been considering 10 counts against Al Amin Dhalla and

:04:34. > :04:40.they came back with verdict on seven of those charges. They found

:04:40. > :04:43.him guilty of harassing his former girlfriend, Alison Hewitt. They

:04:43. > :04:47.started a relationship in Brighton when it ended and started a

:04:47. > :04:52.campaign against her. He was convicted of harassing her mother,

:04:52. > :04:58.Pamela Hewitt, although he was acquitted by the jury on to serious

:04:58. > :05:03.counts, putting a person in fear of violence by harassment. The jury

:05:03. > :05:06.did convict him on arson, setting fire to Pamela Hewitt's cottage in

:05:06. > :05:15.Buckinghamshire, and guilty of the attempted arson of a police station

:05:15. > :05:19.near by. What will happen tomorrow? The jury still has a lot of work to

:05:19. > :05:24.do. They have to consider three more charges against Al Amin Dhalla,

:05:24. > :05:28.possession of an offensive weapon, theft and perverting the court --

:05:28. > :05:36.course of justice. He has protested his innocence but tonight he has

:05:36. > :05:39.been found guilty of seven significant charges.

:05:39. > :05:47.An inquest has been hearing about a teenager's final moments in a plane

:05:47. > :05:57.which crashed killing him and his instructor. He was on a training

:05:57. > :05:59.

:05:59. > :06:06.flight with an instructor. He was described in court as not

:06:06. > :06:12.survivable. The accident left wreckage scattered. The aircraft

:06:12. > :06:16.had collided with a glider at 4,000 feet. The glider pilot was able to

:06:16. > :06:21.parachuted to safety. Sadly they went. In court we heard how the

:06:21. > :06:29.light aircraft was fitted with a special mechanism for Geoff just

:06:29. > :06:32.isn't -- -- jettisoning the canape. -- canopy. An air accident

:06:32. > :06:36.investigator could tell from the wreckage somebody had pulled the

:06:36. > :06:41.lever to try to release the canopy of the plane but explained there

:06:41. > :06:47.was an extra handle you would have had to release for the cabbie to be

:06:47. > :06:52.jettisoned complete the and that hadn't happened. -- for the canopy.

:06:52. > :06:56.The highly experienced pilot may have been incapacitated in the

:06:56. > :07:02.collision with a glider and it was probably 15-year-old Nicholas who

:07:02. > :07:06.had tried to open the canopy. There was also evidence his seat harness

:07:06. > :07:10.had been released before the impact. The teenager's mother was in court

:07:10. > :07:16.to hear what had happened to the plane in which her son died.

:07:16. > :07:19.Tomorrow we are expecting an RAF doctor to give evidence about the

:07:19. > :07:23.medical history and that might shed light on what happened. The inquest

:07:23. > :07:32.is not expected to end until next week so it is not until then we

:07:32. > :07:35.will know what caused these two deaths.

:07:35. > :07:38.A former Cunard employee has been charged with the sexual assault of

:07:38. > :07:40.a child and with possessing indecent images of children. Paul

:07:40. > :07:43.Trotter worked for Southampton based Cunard as a supervisor in a

:07:43. > :07:45.childrens' activity area. Cunard say they are deeply shocked by the

:07:45. > :07:51.allegations and an independent review is underway into their

:07:51. > :07:57.policies and procedures. Briony Leyland reports. They operate three

:07:57. > :08:02.ships from the port of Southampton. They will not confirm which ship

:08:02. > :08:06.off ships are connected with this investigation. Paul Trotter, 34,

:08:06. > :08:12.from Yorkshire, is charged with possessing indecent images of

:08:12. > :08:16.children and the sexual assault of a child under 13 between December

:08:16. > :08:21.20th, 2010, and January 5th, 2011. Wiltshire Police say this was what

:08:21. > :08:26.he was working for Cunard as a supervisor for the children

:08:26. > :08:31.activity area. He knows -- he no longer works for their company and

:08:31. > :08:34.will appear before magistrates on Thursday. Cunard say they are

:08:34. > :08:37.deeply shocked by the allegations and the safety and well-being of

:08:37. > :08:42.customers is of paramount importance. They told us following

:08:42. > :08:52.these allegations being made we ask the NSPCC to conduct an independent

:08:52. > :08:53.

:08:53. > :08:56.comprehensive review of our Wiltshire Police say they are

:08:56. > :09:06.contacting all the parents they need to speak to in relation to the

:09:06. > :09:08.

:09:08. > :09:11.investigation but if parents are The recent cold spell and

:09:11. > :09:13.subsequent thaw has led to big problems for Thames Water. The

:09:13. > :09:15.company's had double the usual number of pipes bursting over

:09:16. > :09:18.recent days. They're currently dealing with more than 100

:09:18. > :09:28.emergencies a day. On Saturday they received 4,000 calls from customers

:09:28. > :09:33.It falls within something we prepare for as a business to make

:09:33. > :09:36.sure we can handle any increase in demand or the number of cruise we

:09:37. > :09:40.need out on the streets. What we have done in some areas his move

:09:40. > :09:44.teams working on non-emergency work for the duration whilst it is

:09:44. > :09:54.particularly cold, they have been sent over to help with the League

:09:54. > :09:54.

:10:02. > :10:06.Double other West Ham and go top of the table. For Spanish nationals

:10:06. > :10:13.have been charged with attempting to import cocaine in one of the

:10:13. > :10:17.largest ever drug seizures at Gatwick. They will -- it was found

:10:17. > :10:21.packed inside suitcases at the South Terminal on Friday. Through

:10:21. > :10:26.rain and a man arrived on a flight from the Dominican Republic. --

:10:26. > :10:29.three women. A man who murdered a drug dealer

:10:29. > :10:32.from Berkshire has been jailed for life and will service a minimum of

:10:32. > :10:35.35 years. Thomas Haigh killed David Griffiths from Bracknell after he

:10:36. > :10:38.was told to bring back cocaine from Brazil for a second time. He also

:10:39. > :10:42.shot dead Brett Flournoy. 35-year- old Griffiths was found buried on a

:10:42. > :10:48.farm in Cornwall. Today his family said they would never get over what

:10:48. > :10:52.had happened. As a family we never imagined we would be standing here

:10:52. > :10:56.today and David would be gone. It is a living hell. We have had to

:10:56. > :11:00.accept their horrific way David was taken from us but also had to

:11:00. > :11:07.endure six weeks of worrying and looking for him, to then find out

:11:07. > :11:10.he was murdered and buried was to lead to much to comprehend. He was

:11:10. > :11:14.a battle for survival that captured the imagination of millions around

:11:14. > :11:19.the world. Water shipped down told the story of a rabbit warren

:11:19. > :11:23.threatened by the arrival of all donors -- bulldozers. A meeting is

:11:23. > :11:32.under way to see if the real life builders should be allowed onto the

:11:32. > :11:36.land that inspired the tail. -- the story. Four protesters it is

:11:36. > :11:40.fiction turned back. He was the arrival of developers who forced

:11:40. > :11:44.the rabbits to head off in search of a new home in water should down.

:11:44. > :11:48.40 years after the story was published the author has been

:11:48. > :11:54.horrified to see his writing ever taken by real life. The idea of

:11:54. > :12:00.building houses there, just plonking them down in the open

:12:00. > :12:04.country, this beautiful area, it ought not to be invaded by a rash

:12:04. > :12:14.of residential developments. Poti marched in advance of the meeting

:12:14. > :12:20.fear it will be more of nature -- more than major he loses out. --

:12:20. > :12:27.more than nature. They are building these homes in addition to 2000

:12:27. > :12:32.homes elsewhere, which would just put an incredible strain on the

:12:32. > :12:35.infrastructure of our locality. Building homes on brownfield sites

:12:35. > :12:41.like the flats incorporated here simply will not meet the demand for

:12:41. > :12:44.places to live according to those backing the use of San Golford.

:12:44. > :12:50.Instead of piecemeal development of a house here and there, in an unco-

:12:50. > :12:54.ordinated way, the whole site could be planned in a co-ordinating

:12:54. > :12:58.manner. The houses are only going to be planned in the north and west

:12:58. > :13:03.of the site. The rest will be ancient wood land which will be

:13:03. > :13:12.preserved and Park, which will also be protected in the south. The

:13:12. > :13:21.greater protection than there is now. Object is are anticipating

:13:21. > :13:24.defeat and are planning to continue protesting. Police negotiators

:13:25. > :13:29.spoke to a 39-year-old before entering the flat in Bognor Regis

:13:29. > :13:37.arresting him on suspicion of salt -- assault and criminal damage.

:13:37. > :13:41.Sussex Police were called after 3 o'clock this morning. 82 jobs at a

:13:41. > :13:48.bakery in Hampshire that makes Hovis bread are under threat.

:13:48. > :13:58.Premier Foods says it stops -- will stop using the bakery in June. Jobs

:13:58. > :13:59.

:14:00. > :14:02.at the distribution centre in the town will not be effective.

:14:02. > :14:04.She suffered life threatening injuries when she was trampled by

:14:05. > :14:07.horses in a freak accident. Lottie Taylor needed an emergency

:14:07. > :14:10.operation before being flown to hospital by the Surrey air

:14:10. > :14:13.ambulance. Now, just one month on, despite suffering a punctured lung

:14:13. > :14:16.and broken ribs, Lottie is back working with the animals she loves.

:14:16. > :14:19.Today she was able to thank the air ambulance medics in person. David

:14:19. > :14:22.Allard reports. This might be the last thing you would expect Lottie

:14:22. > :14:26.Taylor to be doing. Five weeks ago her life was tiny in the balance

:14:26. > :14:33.after she was crushed and trampled by horses at another yard where she

:14:33. > :14:38.works. I had two horses on either side. Something spooked them from

:14:38. > :14:42.behind so they pulled defaults and I try to let go because I was stuck

:14:42. > :14:46.in the middle of them there was nowhere for me to go and this a

:14:46. > :14:50.pretty and I hit the floor which was rather hard, so got up and

:14:50. > :14:54.walked to the House and I guess that was just a adrenalin, pretty

:14:54. > :15:00.amazing when you needed. injuries were so severe the Serie

:15:00. > :15:03.air ambulance was called. Her chest injury was very serious. The air

:15:03. > :15:08.ambulance team gave her an anaesthetic and performed surgery

:15:08. > :15:13.to enable her to breathe. She was airlifted to London and spent three

:15:13. > :15:16.days on a ventilator but was home after a week. I don't remember

:15:16. > :15:20.anything about the helicopter ride which is probably a good thing.

:15:20. > :15:25.Today is a chance for her to visit the air ambulance and thank the

:15:25. > :15:28.team for saving her life. Geoff would have been sitting here,

:15:28. > :15:35.keeping an eye on the monitor. An Irish -- orange machine at the back

:15:35. > :15:40.doing your breathing for use. In this case it was essential the air

:15:40. > :15:46.ambulance went to enable her to be here and talking with us today.

:15:46. > :15:50.cannot thank them enough. It has been made quite clear to me if they

:15:50. > :15:55.went where they were things could have been very different. Back at

:15:55. > :15:58.the stables her accident hasn't dented her confidence. Anybody who

:15:58. > :16:02.likes horses knows these things can happen and you can either be scared

:16:02. > :16:11.or get on with it. That is what I do and love to do and I will not

:16:11. > :16:14.stop. She hopes to be back at work next month. Looking much better, a

:16:14. > :16:18.big thank you to the air ambulance service. Provocative and

:16:18. > :16:26.challenging. That is how an award- winning artist in Crawley has been

:16:27. > :16:29.described by some. She's called Sarah Maple, and she's making quite

:16:30. > :16:32.an impact in the art world. Sarah received death threats when she

:16:32. > :16:35.portrayed herself wearing a burkha holding a piglet in 2008. The

:16:35. > :16:38.photographer and painter's new exhibition is called "It's A Girl".

:16:38. > :16:41.It's described as an unflinching investigation into what it is to be

:16:41. > :16:49.a woman in 21st century Britain. This latest work is also likely to

:16:49. > :16:55.raise eyebrows. Sara Smith's been Sarah Maple is an artist who isn't

:16:55. > :17:00.afraid of putting herself centre- stage. In oils and photographs this

:17:00. > :17:03.exhibition set out to challenge the way society looked at women. It is

:17:03. > :17:09.the whole thing, you should be ashamed of your body, your hair, if

:17:09. > :17:13.you spend money you commit yourself perfect. Brought up a Muslim in

:17:13. > :17:19.Eastbourne and Crawley she explored her upbringing in her first solo

:17:19. > :17:24.exhibition four years ago, the year after having won the Saatchi based

:17:24. > :17:33.new sensations price. These images provoked death threats. You can

:17:33. > :17:36.tell am not really worried about the response. The images may be of

:17:36. > :17:41.beastly -- less obviously provocative than previous work but

:17:41. > :17:49.the message is no less powerful. Dressed as a series of Disney

:17:49. > :17:56.Princess's she takes on some very unmet Disney like rolls. Cinderella

:17:56. > :18:00.is winning a seat in Parliament. Snow White is a scientist. It is

:18:00. > :18:06.getting younger else to think, I can do anything I want, and not

:18:06. > :18:10.just their to be beautiful and saved by a man. I hope it will make

:18:10. > :18:15.people question assumptions, things went takes for granted and you

:18:15. > :18:23.don't even see it any more. Sarah Maple isn't afraid of the F-word

:18:23. > :18:29.and is making her case that feminism is about -- as valid now

:18:29. > :18:34.than ever before. Can you remember Duran Duran in their heyday and

:18:34. > :18:37.Margaret Thatcher as prime minister? If so you are now history,

:18:37. > :18:42.according to researchers at the University of Sussex. They put in a

:18:42. > :18:46.line thousands of balls -- observations by the 1980s from

:18:47. > :18:52.ordinary people. We have been talking with one of those behind

:18:52. > :18:56.the Mass observation project. In this locked storeroom lie thousands

:18:56. > :19:00.of questionnaires completed over the past 75 years. Now the

:19:00. > :19:04.responses from the 1980s are being put on line including one man's

:19:04. > :19:08.record of his junk mail which included milk delivery promotions

:19:08. > :19:12.and a notice of a ban the Bomb meeting. The respondent had

:19:12. > :19:16.interesting takes on major events such as this man's thoughts on the

:19:17. > :19:26.Falklands War. In his local pub on Friday night the talk was all about

:19:27. > :19:27.

:19:27. > :19:32.the Falklands and the effect it would have on the World Cup.

:19:32. > :19:37.key political figure of the decade proved divisive. Many respondents

:19:37. > :19:41.admiring her determination, but not all. A male respondents describe

:19:41. > :19:46.the 80s as like being nagged by someone else's wife and Thatcher is

:19:46. > :19:51.the nagging wife in some ways. teaching resource will go online

:19:51. > :19:55.later today and it is hoped it will inspire people. We can all document

:19:55. > :20:00.the world around us, whether in our diaries or online blocks. It

:20:00. > :20:07.reminds us all we can be the people writing the history of the present

:20:07. > :20:13.for future historians. It is good to be part of history. Duran Duran,

:20:13. > :20:18.remember them? A little bit before my time. You saw the lady on the

:20:18. > :20:25.screen, that is mired grow Thatcher. I do remember that. -- Margaret

:20:25. > :20:34.Thatcher. You remember the 80s, don't you? It is your birthday

:20:34. > :20:44.today. I feel old. Are there joins hurting? I know you were talking

:20:44. > :20:44.

:20:44. > :20:48.about history and the future, and I slink to Portsmouth? Very unhappy

:20:48. > :20:53.about impending administration. They have put a petition up because

:20:53. > :20:58.they want to get the administration process, they were the right result

:20:58. > :21:01.to come out, asking fans to sign the petition. They will send it to

:21:01. > :21:05.the Football League. Portsmouth fans being aged two to show their

:21:05. > :21:09.support for the club this evening ahead of them move into

:21:09. > :21:16.administration. They are ageing fans to arrive in plenty of time

:21:16. > :21:20.for the game with Ipswich at Fratton Park. Facing up to a

:21:20. > :21:24.financial crisis for the second time in three years. People want to

:21:24. > :21:29.carry on, they want the team there. A lot of people wouldn't mind if

:21:29. > :21:34.they went down a division. The City will be really upset if they lost

:21:34. > :21:39.their club. It doesn't reflect on their actual player's performance,

:21:39. > :21:45.it is all just to do with needing some money and the person he did
