:00:13. > :00:15.Hello, good evening, I'm Tom Hepworth. A 49-year-old man is in

:00:15. > :00:24.hospital with potentially life threatening head injuries after

:00:24. > :00:27.being attacked by a group of people at Gosport in Hampshire.

:00:27. > :00:37.Andrew Toseland, who's 49, was attacked outside his flat in

:00:37. > :00:40.

:00:40. > :00:48.Garland Court on Forton Road in Gosport early on Saturday morning.

:00:48. > :00:51.Andrew went out into a communal area to tell a group to come down.

:00:51. > :00:53.Hampshire Police arrested a total of eight people following the

:00:53. > :00:56.attack. One man has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily

:00:56. > :01:02.harm and remanded in custody. Another man has been released

:01:02. > :01:05.without charge. Four men, a 22- year-old woman and a 16-year-old

:01:05. > :01:09.youth have all been released on bail until October 17.

:01:09. > :01:14.The family of a 10-year-old girl, who died after a car crash on the

:01:14. > :01:17.Isle of Wight, have said she was "adored by everyone she met." Evey

:01:17. > :01:20.Staley was fatally injured when the Subaru car, in which she was

:01:20. > :01:26.travelling, collided with a Ford Puma on the A3020 Cowes Road in

:01:26. > :01:30.Newport on Friday evening. Her father and mother, who were also in

:01:30. > :01:32.the car, remain seriously ill in hospital.

:01:32. > :01:35.The leader of Bournemouth Borough Council says services will not be

:01:35. > :01:42.affected, despite the outsourcing of departments to a company in

:01:42. > :01:47.financial difficulty. Mouchel has been forced to sell its assets to

:01:47. > :01:57.the banks which have lent it the most money. It had run up debts of

:01:57. > :02:00.

:02:00. > :02:07.The council's contract to which Mouchel was worth 300 million over

:02:07. > :02:17.10 years. It took over four departments. The company's share

:02:17. > :02:20.

:02:20. > :02:24.price plummeted. What is really important is that everybody

:02:24. > :02:29.understands clearly that the position now is much stronger than

:02:29. > :02:36.it was before, the uncertainty has been removed, and I think the

:02:36. > :02:40.threat to jobs is actually non- existent. Mouchel had outsourcing

:02:40. > :02:50.contracts for councils in Rochdale and Milton Keynes, but both those

:02:50. > :02:55.authorities dropped Mouchel. Earlier this year, the figure was

:02:55. > :02:59.revised down. Union bosses wanted a review into how realistic those

:02:59. > :03:05.saving forecasts are. I hope we will be involved in this process,

:03:05. > :03:09.to make sure that staff's jobs are protected. We find out if this

:03:10. > :03:15.contract really is providing value for money for Bournemouth, because

:03:15. > :03:22.if it isn't, that is not in any one's interests. What this means

:03:22. > :03:26.the council taxpayers remains to be seen. Mouchel's chief executive

:03:26. > :03:29.says it is business as usual. Preparatory work will start next

:03:29. > :03:33.month on a 12 million flood defence scheme to protect

:03:33. > :03:36.Littlehampton in West Sussex. Dozens of homes on the seafront had

:03:36. > :03:40.to be evacuated in June when torrential rain caused flooding up

:03:40. > :03:43.to four feet deep in places. Site investigations will start in

:03:43. > :03:48.September and the construction of a tidal flood defence wall along the

:03:48. > :03:51.River Arun should begin late next year.

:03:51. > :03:55.Fewer crimes were committed at the Reading Festival this year, despite

:03:55. > :03:57.police fears it would be targetted by gangs from Eastern Europe.

:03:57. > :04:03.Thames Valley Police recorded 50 incidents involving thefts from

:04:03. > :04:13.tents and drug offences. There were just over 140 crimes last year.

:04:13. > :04:16.Around 87,000 people attended the festival.

:04:16. > :04:18.The Paralympic flame has arrived in Weymouth and Portland today for a

:04:19. > :04:23.special evening celebration as part of its journey to the Opening

:04:23. > :04:27.Ceremony of the Games. Hamish Marshall was there to see it arrive.

:04:27. > :04:33.Appropriately for the home of the sailing events, it was a water-

:04:33. > :04:39.borne a rival. 300 it waved it off from Port learnt, and every vantage

:04:39. > :04:46.point was taken. A poor day of weather of relented just at the

:04:46. > :04:52.right time. I think it is fantastic, to support the super heroes we have.

:04:52. > :04:59.We hope we would see something if we were down here. The flame was

:04:59. > :05:03.lit from the English flame, one of four touring the country. Two local

:05:03. > :05:10.flame ambassadors proudly carried the lamp as it made its way along a

:05:10. > :05:16.packed seafront. Words cannot describe it. It was gobsmacked in!

:05:16. > :05:22.It was brilliant. Seeing people's faces, smiling and waving, showing

:05:22. > :05:29.a lot of support for it. Ridiculous! I am just an ordinary

:05:29. > :05:34.guy. It was lovely. I was trying to thank everybody. After an official

:05:34. > :05:37.welcoming ceremony, people are keen to take their chance, and to get up

:05:38. > :05:42.close and personal with the flame. No one was sure how many people

:05:42. > :05:48.would come here today, but the term that has exceeded all expectations.

:05:48. > :05:51.It seems that Olympic fever is turning into Paralympic fever.

:05:51. > :05:54.Tomorrow, the flame will be in Aylesbury for the start of the

:05:54. > :05:57.Paralympic torch relay to the Olympic Stadium. And we will be

:05:57. > :06:07.there, too, for a special South Today. Alexis Green has your

:06:07. > :06:10.

:06:10. > :06:15.A band of rain will move its way north and east would tonight.

:06:15. > :06:19.Gradually clearing its way north and east woods. Heavy bursts.

:06:19. > :06:28.Clearing skies would develop as we head towards dawn, and most places

:06:28. > :06:35.will be dry. Tomorrow it is an improvement on today. There is the

:06:35. > :06:41.outside chance of the odd stray shower. Elsewhere, dry with sunny

:06:41. > :06:45.spells and temperatures up a notch from today - 20 or 21 Celsius. Low

:06:45. > :06:51.pressure comes into play on Wednesday. You can see the squeeze

:06:51. > :06:56.on the isobars and the winds will pick up. Pretty unsettled picture.

:06:56. > :07:02.But then, after a few showers on Thursday, an improving picture

:07:02. > :07:06.later on the day. By the end of the week, high pressure builds. More

:07:07. > :07:10.settled conditions. Before that, wet and windy conditions on

:07:10. > :07:15.Wednesday. The odd shower on Thursday. But high pressure builds

:07:15. > :07:20.him on Friday, so towards the weekend, dry, settled and sunny,

:07:20. > :07:23.and tomorrow it is also looking pretty good.
