:00:00. > :00:09.all tour. Let's hope this guy has a lot

:00:10. > :00:15.Good evening. I'm Jo Kent. Thousands of households across the South face

:00:16. > :00:19.a Christmas without power after high winds and torrential rain battered

:00:20. > :00:25.our region last night. Overall, almost 83,000 households still

:00:26. > :00:28.haven't been reconnected. The worst affected areas are both in

:00:29. > :00:31.Hampshire. Around Petersfield, more than 25,000 homes are without power,

:00:32. > :00:35.while in Aldershot, just under 20,000 families are likely to be in

:00:36. > :00:38.the dark tonight. Also, within the last couple of hours, police in

:00:39. > :00:45.Oxfordshire have recovered a man's body from the swollen River Thame,

:00:46. > :00:52.near Wheatley. His death is being treated as unexplained. It has been

:00:53. > :00:56.a day of disruption and chaos. Not the type of Christmas tree you

:00:57. > :01:02.want to see in your living room. For this family in Poole, last night's

:01:03. > :01:08.storm was a lucky escape. We were just wrapping presents when the

:01:09. > :01:13.first bit came down in the lounge. We heard a loud crash and quickly

:01:14. > :01:17.ran out. We have had trees going down everywhere. We have had two

:01:18. > :01:21.teens out all night. This is just one of many we have had. The winds

:01:22. > :01:23.ripped across the South. This tree in Worthing rudely interrupted

:01:24. > :01:26.Christmas preparations. With the wind came torrential rain. Many main

:01:27. > :01:30.roads, including the A35 through Dorset, were affected. 25 people in

:01:31. > :01:33.the county had to be rescued from their cars by the fire service.

:01:34. > :01:37.These pensioners in Ferndown had to be helped from their mobile homes by

:01:38. > :01:41.boat. At Emsworth in West Sussex, this group of houses was flooded out

:01:42. > :01:49.for the sixth time in three years. Christmas will be spent bailing out.

:01:50. > :01:54.It is just eight inches higher, and it has gone throughout the whole

:01:55. > :01:58.house. Less than a week ago, we just had new carpets and flooring done

:01:59. > :02:02.throughout the whole house, because I have got a baby due in nine weeks.

:02:03. > :02:06.And flash flooding. The River why are on the Isle of Wight burst its

:02:07. > :02:09.banks, as did the River Rother, near Stedham in West Sussex. Properties

:02:10. > :02:11.in nearby Fittleworth and Duncton were flooded, and some motorists

:02:12. > :02:14.ignored the advice of emergency services and braved the floodwater,

:02:15. > :02:24.with potentially dangerous consequences. Trees down meant power

:02:25. > :02:28.lines down, like this one near Winchester. The resulting power cuts

:02:29. > :02:38.left thousands in the dark, with Christmas food spoiling. We have had

:02:39. > :02:41.no power for about 17 hours now. There is a problem with the

:02:42. > :02:45.substation, apparently. We have got the turkey in the fridge, it is

:02:46. > :02:50.obviously not being refrigerated, so I don't know. Although we are trying

:02:51. > :02:55.our best this evening and late into the night to get them back on, if

:02:56. > :02:58.people can make alternative arrangements, we recommend that they

:02:59. > :03:01.do that. The companies now say that if homes are not reconnected before

:03:02. > :03:04.midnight, they are unlikely to have electricity on Christmas Day. Trees

:03:05. > :03:08.down on railway tracks like this one at Sholing meant no South West

:03:09. > :03:10.Trains ran before ten o'clock this morning, and First Great Western

:03:11. > :03:13.trains through Reading suffered disruption, too. Hundreds were left

:03:14. > :03:16.stranded at Gatwick, and although passengers arriving in Southampton

:03:17. > :03:19.weren't delayed in the air, they did face long queues leaving the car

:03:20. > :03:22.park because of a downed tree. As the Christmas clear`up continues,

:03:23. > :03:30.there are warnings of more bad weather to come on Friday.

:03:31. > :03:36.Let's get the all`important weather now. More bad weather later in the

:03:37. > :03:39.week? Yes, another storm on the way for Friday. Before then, we will

:03:40. > :03:44.have heavy showers this evening and through Christmas day. The showers

:03:45. > :03:50.could be squarely in nature, although the winds will is slightly

:03:51. > :03:55.this evening `` the winds will is slightly. A bit of hail, even some

:03:56. > :04:00.sleep over higher ground. For Christmas Day, those heavy and

:04:01. > :04:02.squally showers will continue, with hail and thunder mixed in. During

:04:03. > :04:08.the day, there will be some sunshine. It is a easy day. Boxing

:04:09. > :04:24.Day is looking slightly better. As we look ahead to Friday, here is

:04:25. > :04:29.the weather system coming in from the Atlantic, courtesy of this area

:04:30. > :04:36.of low pressure. Winds gusting up to 70 mph. Inland gusts, 50 mph. And

:04:37. > :04:42.some quite heavy rainfall. That there will be showers for Christmas

:04:43. > :04:48.day. Boxing Day is slightly quieter, with light winds. Looking ahead to

:04:49. > :04:51.Friday, we have a Met Office yellow weather warning in force for heavy

:04:52. > :04:54.rain and strong wind is. That's all from us for now. We are

:04:55. > :04:59.back with our next bulletin at 1pm on Boxing Day. From all of us on the

:05:00. > :05:08.it from us - we are back on Boxing Day at One o'clock. Merry Christmas.

:05:09. > :05:17.Hello. The weather has been a little kinder today to travellers and

:05:18. > :05:21.last-minute Christmas shoppers across England and Wales. Not as bad

:05:22. > :05:22.as we feared across Northern
