:00:00. > 3:59:59throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel. We are back with the

:00:00. > :00:12.late news Hello, good evening, I'm Tom

:00:13. > :00:17.Hepworth. Almost 5,000 homes remain without power across the South this

:00:18. > :00:20.evening. Some have been without electricity since Christmas Eve.

:00:21. > :00:23.Petersfield, Aldershot and parts of Berkshire have been worst affected

:00:24. > :00:28.after the stormy weather earlier this week. Southern Electric says it

:00:29. > :00:33.has deployed extra staff to help customers, but flooding is slowing

:00:34. > :00:36.down its efforts. At one nursing home near Basingstoke, elderly

:00:37. > :00:42.residents were without power for four days and forced to spend most

:00:43. > :00:51.of the festive period in bed. Here's Alastair Fee.

:00:52. > :00:55.Buried under ten blankets to keep warm, Rachel has been in bed for

:00:56. > :01:00.four days. Room by room, it is the same story, with no electricity this

:01:01. > :01:07.has been the only way to keep out the cold. We built up blankets and

:01:08. > :01:12.God knows what. The staff tried to keep us as warm as they possibly

:01:13. > :01:16.can. This nursing home has been without power since Monday. Gas

:01:17. > :01:22.cookers mean hot food is still being served, but it has been days since

:01:23. > :01:25.they have had any heating. Despite repeated calls to Southern Electric,

:01:26. > :01:30.they have literally been left in the dark not knowing when help would

:01:31. > :01:34.arrive. Definitely have not been priority, it has been very hard to

:01:35. > :01:37.get hold of anybody to speak to, and if you do get through they say there

:01:38. > :01:42.are hundreds of homes out of electricity and they will get to us

:01:43. > :01:49.when they can. This generator turned up late on Christmas Day but no

:01:50. > :01:53.engineer came to collect it. When I was told the generator was coming

:01:54. > :01:58.they told me that an engineer would be coming with it, and it was just

:01:59. > :02:04.the driver. Staff and relatives have been doing what they can. She is

:02:05. > :02:08.tucked up in bed at the moment were normally she would be sitting up

:02:09. > :02:15.enjoying herself. We cannot do no more about keep her warm. Throughout

:02:16. > :02:17.Christmas just three out of 26 people have been out of bed to

:02:18. > :02:23.gather around the small gas heater. Southern Electric finally got the

:02:24. > :02:30.power back on this afternoon, but everyone feels let down at a time

:02:31. > :02:33.and a needed support the most. Southern Electric told us they are

:02:34. > :02:38.trying to restore power as soon as possible and thank customers for

:02:39. > :02:41.their patience. We understand it can be very frustrating for customers

:02:42. > :02:45.waiting on the line wanting to talk to one of our staff members. I can

:02:46. > :02:49.reassure everyone that we have plenty of staff taking calls, an

:02:50. > :02:54.additional 50 people taking calls at the moment. I understand that there

:02:55. > :02:57.are customers wanting to talk to customer service advisers, and it

:02:58. > :03:00.can be extremely frustratingly newer waiting on the line.

:03:01. > :03:02.Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority says it may investigate

:03:03. > :03:05.Gatwick Airport, over the disruption to flights on Christmas Eve.

:03:06. > :03:08.Thousands had their travel plans ruined after an electricity

:03:09. > :03:15.substation flooded. The airport has apologised and says it's now

:03:16. > :03:18.operating a full schedule. Football and Southampton roared into a 3`0

:03:19. > :03:22.lead against Cardiff within half an hour. Two goals for Jay Rodriguez

:03:23. > :03:27.and one from Ricky Lambert gave Saints their first win in seven

:03:28. > :03:30.games. In the Championship, Bournemouth beat Yeovil Town 3`0,

:03:31. > :03:33.Reading are out of the play`off places after losing 1`0 to Leicester

:03:34. > :03:39.who go top, while Brighton went down 3`2 at Charlton. In League One,

:03:40. > :03:46.Swindon Town lost 3`2 at Brentford. MK Dons beat Crawley 2`0. In League

:03:47. > :03:49.Two, Portsmouth won their first game in nine beating Dagenham Redbridge

:03:50. > :03:56.1`0 at Fratton Park. Oxford stay second despite losing 3`2 at home to

:03:57. > :04:02.Plymouth Argyle. Time for a look at the weather.

:04:03. > :04:06.Good evening. Another decidedly wet and windy spell during the course of

:04:07. > :04:09.tonight, that will be unwelcome news where you have already had some

:04:10. > :04:20.local flooding. There is a yellow warning in force. Through the course

:04:21. > :04:29.of tonight, brighter colours are developing as heavy rain spreads

:04:30. > :04:37.in. Maybe 60, 70 mph gusts, temperatures tonight for what it's

:04:38. > :04:41.worth about three or eight Celsius. The rain might linger for a while

:04:42. > :04:45.tomorrow, but generally speaking we are into a day then of bright

:04:46. > :04:49.spells, a blustery day with heavy showers. Temperatures tomorrow

:04:50. > :04:54.getting up to about lo double figures.

:04:55. > :05:00.That's how it is looking this evening. Thank you. We will be back

:05:01. > :05:05.with another bulletin at 10:15pm. Until then have a very good evening.

:05:06. > :05:12.Hello there, most of us have had a quiet Boxing Day, mostly dry,

:05:13. > :05:17.chilly, lingering mist, light winds. That is all about to change. The

:05:18. > :05:21.next storm arriving on our doorstep right now, over night tonight will

:05:22. > :05:23.see wet and windy weather. The
