:00:00. > :00:10.with the News at Ten. Now it's time with the News at Ten. Now it's time

:00:11. > :00:14.Hello, a very good evening to you. I'm Tom Hepworth with the latest

:00:15. > :00:18.here in the South. A woman who was murdered while house

:00:19. > :00:23.sitting in a West Sussex village has been named by police. Valerie Graves

:00:24. > :00:26.of Bracklesham Bay was 55. She was found yesterday at a property in

:00:27. > :00:30.Smuggler's Lane at Bosham. She'd suffered a head injury. West Sussex

:00:31. > :00:35.police say she'd been staying there with members of her family. Briony

:00:36. > :00:40.Leyland reports. Police say the owners of this house

:00:41. > :00:43.in Bosham are on holiday abroad. Valerie Graves, who lived 12 miles

:00:44. > :00:47.away in nearby Bracklesham Bay, came to house sit with some of her family

:00:48. > :00:50.on December 23rd. The 55`year`old was found dead at the house

:00:51. > :00:53.yesterday morning. The cause of her death hasn't been established, but

:00:54. > :01:01.she had suffered a head injury and police are treating it as murder.

:01:02. > :01:05.Her body was found by a member of her family. There were four members

:01:06. > :01:10.of her family. At this stage we cannot give further details. We are

:01:11. > :01:13.just over 24 hours into a murder investigation and there are a number

:01:14. > :01:15.of matters we are trying to establish. As searches of gardens

:01:16. > :01:18.and streams around the waterside property continued, police said

:01:19. > :01:21.no`one was in custody and they were following several lines of inquiry,

:01:22. > :01:26.including the possibility of an attack by a stranger. Detectives

:01:27. > :01:30.will not confirm whether there were any signs of a break in or burglary.

:01:31. > :01:33.They say they are keeping an open mind about the motive

:01:34. > :01:48.. A fright, really. I can't believe it, really. Obviously, this was a

:01:49. > :01:52.treat and they were looking forward to coming, so I do not know what was

:01:53. > :01:57.involved. I am surprised something like that happened here. My parents

:01:58. > :02:01.live in the village. I think everyone is talking about it, but

:02:02. > :02:05.nobody really knew anything. It was the first thing I saw on the news

:02:06. > :02:11.this morning. Horrible. Police say this is a rare incident for Bosham,

:02:12. > :02:15.which they describe as a safe area. They are increasing neighbourhood

:02:16. > :02:19.patrols partly for neighbourhood assurance but also to encourage

:02:20. > :02:24.people to speed to them. `` to speak to them.

:02:25. > :02:28.Repair work is continuing on some railway lines after high winds

:02:29. > :02:31.damaged several routes in the South. Landslips, like this one in Ockley

:02:32. > :02:34.near Horsham and another blocking the main line between Portsmouth and

:02:35. > :02:37.London near Haslemere, have caused disruption. Staff from Network Rail

:02:38. > :02:43.and Southwest Trains have worked round the clock clearing 140 trees

:02:44. > :02:47.which fell onto tracks. Flooding has caused more problems elsewhere.

:02:48. > :02:50.Meanwhile, all passengers caught up in the travel chaos at Gatwick

:02:51. > :02:53.Airport on Christmas Eve will be offered ?100 in High Street vouchers

:02:54. > :02:56.as a gesture of goodwill. Flooding, which affected the airport, caused

:02:57. > :03:00.power cuts which led to long delays and cancellations for departing

:03:01. > :03:03.travellers. Some passengers were waiting at Gatwick for 12 hours

:03:04. > :03:05.before learning that their flight had been cancelled. The Civil

:03:06. > :03:12.Aviation Authority is investigating the disruption.

:03:13. > :03:14.Firefighters across the South are on strike this evening. It's part of

:03:15. > :03:19.ongoing national industrial action over pensions. All services have

:03:20. > :03:22.contingency plans in place to deal with any emergency calls, but they

:03:23. > :03:27.are urging people to take extra care during the walk`out. The strike

:03:28. > :03:32.started at 6.30, and it's due to end at half past midnight.

:03:33. > :03:36.Dozens of people from across the South have been recognised in the

:03:37. > :03:39.New Years Honours. And for many, it's a reward for tireless voluntary

:03:40. > :03:53.service which would otherwise go unrecognised. Rob Powell reports.

:03:54. > :03:57.Honours for a husband and wife who have raised more than ?1 million for

:03:58. > :04:01.charity. Graham and Pauline Evans set up a branch of Save the Children

:04:02. > :04:04.at Carterton in Oxfordshire in 1973. News of their British Empire Medals

:04:05. > :04:11.came as a surprise. We were amazed. We thought it was a bill at first!

:04:12. > :04:17.But it was a really great surprise. And the joy is it is for both of us.

:04:18. > :04:23.It is not very often I would be emotional to tears about things but

:04:24. > :04:26.I looked at the envelope and thought, why me? Meanwhile in

:04:27. > :04:29.Portsmouth, a lord of the ring is honoured with an MBE. Quinton

:04:30. > :04:33.Shillingford started boxing at ten, and in 2008, he founded the Heart of

:04:34. > :04:38.Portsmouth community club. I am overwhelmed, really overwhelmed. It

:04:39. > :04:43.is a complete honour. There are a lot of coaches out there who put in

:04:44. > :04:48.a lot of voluntary time and keeping kids off the streets, so it means a

:04:49. > :04:50.lot. Quinton has already coached 15`year`old Ebonie Jones to gold in

:04:51. > :04:58.the European Championships and bronze in the world. He is a good

:04:59. > :05:01.motivator. He is always there for you and trying to make you become

:05:02. > :05:04.the best you can be. To the more sedate Chichester Cathedral. And an

:05:05. > :05:11.MBE for the man who helped restore this masterpiece. I love old

:05:12. > :05:18.buildings and I love the arts. I have grown up in the arts and so

:05:19. > :05:22.everything here represents all that I love most dearly. Over 30 years of

:05:23. > :05:26.cathedral restoration here, Leslie has played a vital role in

:05:27. > :05:30.fundraising. Now he has an honour that befits his hard work.

:05:31. > :05:34.Police are warning people celebrating new year not to drink

:05:35. > :05:37.excessively. They say those who do won't be safe to drive into

:05:38. > :05:41.tomorrow. Meanwhile they're praising the quick thinking of a bus driver

:05:42. > :05:45.on the Isle of Wight who just avoided hitting this man lying in

:05:46. > :05:48.the middle of the road. They say they hope this footage which has

:05:49. > :05:49.just been released will encourage people to enjoy themselves

:05:50. > :05:58.responsibly. There is more bad weather on the

:05:59. > :06:09.way. Here is the forecast. We have some weather warnings in

:06:10. > :06:14.place. We start tonight on a dry note with clear spells overhead, but

:06:15. > :06:18.we have shoppers heading our way. As always is the nature with showers,

:06:19. > :06:22.hit and miss is the key. A dry evening but the showers will be

:06:23. > :06:28.working in from the West and they could prove to be rather heavy,

:06:29. > :06:33.maybe even with thunder. How are we shaping up for midnight? The showers

:06:34. > :06:37.will be rather scattered, but a little on the heavy side.

:06:38. > :06:41.Temperatures through midnight between six and nine degrees, but

:06:42. > :06:45.breezy wherever you are, so feeling blustery if you are out to

:06:46. > :06:50.celebrate. Tomorrow we have a yellow weather warning in place from the

:06:51. > :06:55.Met Office for rainfall. We have one or two showers for eastern parts.

:06:56. > :06:59.But very soon we will see a band of wet and windy weather arriving from

:07:00. > :07:04.the south`west. This will have heavy pulses, up to 30 minute metres of

:07:05. > :07:08.rain in some spots. Windy as well, particularly to the coast and Isle

:07:09. > :07:17.of Wight. Here, we could see costs of 50 or 60 mph. `` gusts of wind.

:07:18. > :07:20.Bright and sunny conditions on Thursday but another warning for

:07:21. > :07:23.Friday, and it stays on settled until the weekend.

:07:24. > :07:27.That is the latest. We will be back next year, at one o'clock tomorrow.

:07:28. > :07:44.Have a good we got `` New Year. Good evening. It looks like mother

:07:45. > :07:48.nature may provide her own pyrotechnics in the run-up to bid

:07:49. > :07:52.night tonight. We have some heavy showers in western parts, starting

:07:53. > :07:58.to ease a bit across Scotland and Northern Ireland. But the showers

:07:59. > :08:02.further south are heavier, with some flashes of lightning as they move

:08:03. > :08:06.eastwards. They do get a bit more hit and miss as we head towards

:08:07. > :08:12.midnight, but a greater chance of getting wet in the south as we move

:08:13. > :08:16.into 2014. Cardiff and London could see heavy downpours. Further north,

:08:17. > :08:22.you could be greeting the New Year on a dry note. A touch of frost in

:08:23. > :08:27.northern and eastern areas going into New Year's Day. A few showers

:08:28. > :08:28.continue into the morning, but
